Yes, this is a "cry me a river" post. And the attitude of this post has been derived from a few beers, so take this post with a grain of salt.
*!END WARNING!*
My question is why hasn't someone clever enough made a script or mod to make the SDCard the default on stock Samsung ROMs that can be flashed instead of the internal memory. I have searched to no avail. And if you seriously think a mere 11GB is enough you need to have your head examined.
I can't use CyanogenMod because even with it's "stable" 7.2, it's still unstable, even on the stock kernel. And even though the Stock ROM is bloatware from Hell, I'd take stability and bloat over random hangs and reboots. It's just that 11GB isn't enough when you've a 32GB card lyin' around collecting dust.
I'm technical enough to use the command line, but I'm just too lazy. I'd gladly donate a few bucks/buy a beer for an earnest devs time just for the sake of convenience.
So why hasn't anyone done it yet? I call fail on hobbyist devs everywhere. This is kind'a sad, y'know (Yes, I'm from Wisconsin).
ive been using cm9 for weeks/months without any crashes/hangs? So its not the rom but your apps that causing problems.
Why dont you try an app2sd app?
Ive never filled my 11GB of internal storage with apps because all my video's and pictures are on my external sd and my big apps (games and gps) automaticly save on external sdcard aswell.
How many apps do you get? because 11gb of just apps is alot... I think you should better do a full wipe and install your apps again one by one.
Also check the lost.dir map everything in there may be deleted, i once had 2 gig of data in it.

Full disclosure: I bounce around from CM7, to stock, to CM9, and everytime it's a full wipe.
I'm sick of random reboots and mobile data hangs on the CMs, which is why I'm on stock. App2SD is only a stopgap, I want a permanent solution, and having my SDcard as default rather than telling certain apps to save to it. That becomes tedious with 200+ apps.

Coming from a rooted EVO there was a script written that allowed you to move entire apps to sd card instead of just a portion like apps2sd... I was just wondering if anyone has seen anything similar for the Note?
No. But u shouldn't need it. There's plenty internal space for apps, unlike a dated evo.
Thanks for the reply

Not for me, LOL. I'd like to be able to increase the apps partition and decrease the internal SD size. I hate moving apps to SD because Android likes to forget they're installed and then I have to reboot to access them. But if I don't, I run out of space (for some reason even with 200MB available, I constantly get "not enough storage available" errors when installing apps, but anything over about 200-250MB or so and they install fine).
Hi - probably a stupid question, but when I open up Titanium Backup... on the home page, it shows the space available for the various partitions: System ROM, Internal, SD Card, and Ext SD Card. I notice that my System ROM partition is 87% full (87MB free, out of 667MB total).
When I first noticed this, I started to move some more apps to SD card, hoping to clear up some space. I think I moved about 15 apps, some of which were pretty large (Angry Birds, Angry Birds Rio, Firefox, for example). Yet, after a reboot, the System ROM space availability was exactly the same. What gives? Is this a fault in Titanium Backup? (dev won't answer any questions.. so I'm asking here...) If it's just a fault, then how do I know what an accurate space availability is?
Thanks in advance!
Hey gang,
Ok - so it's been a few months since my last post about this. I've even updated to JB a few weeks ago too. Removed a bunch of apps entirely, moved some more to SD Card, and now I have even less System ROM space - I'm down to 2kB What gives? Does anybody understand how this is calculated? Why is it showing such a small amt of free space? 2kB available should mean that my phone would lock up because there's no space available, I would think.
Does anyone know how to create more space? Just about a week or two ago I had 30MB avail, now down to 2kB!
Are you on xt912?
System is only for "main ROM" not really a biggie
Apps use internal for data
Sd card is for your data
Sd card ext is well the removable sd card

Oops - sry, yes, I'm on 98.72.16.xt912.Verizon.en.us - CDMA - JB 4.1.2, using stock OTA update without any custom recoveries at the moment (I'm still deciding if I want to put BootStrap back on, or change to SafeStrap).
I guess I'm not overly concerned about the minimal space to the ROM, but 2kB! C'mon, that's virtually out of space. I have a hard time figuring out why I have so little space. If Verizon pushes out any updates (that's a huge IF), then I won't have any room to update. That could cause an issue, don't you think? How much space do you have on your ROM?
I have 37mb available in my system, i do remember on ics there was video in the system that could be removed to free up around 40mb.. Worth a look to see if it's hidden somewhere , although root access is probably needed. Lucky for me i have it

I might have to remove the vids - where are they located? Are they the ones in the /preinstall/KnowYourDevice/ folder??
If so, I removed them and placed them on my PC. System ROM size didn't change. hmph
My internal storage is full and I need more space. I'm wonder what would happen if I was to move things like apps to my external and then delete them on my internal? Anyone have any ideas on how to get more space without borking something up?

How many apps do you have installed??
Go into settings, Apps.
Click on each app. If the feature is natively avaiable, there will be an option to move to SD Card. Click that.
Otherwise, you can use third party apps like App2SD to move apps to SD Card.
I am actually attempting to nix the INTERNAL memory and dedicate it all to /data for application installs and data storage, and just make my 32GB MicroSD the alternate storage (and actually mounted as /sdcard, seriously, that annoys the ever living piss outta me)... Sadly, its only been done on the International GNote, and the setup seems worlds apart when trying to accomplish it on my AT&T GNote...
Anywho, If I manage to get it working, ill let ya know (if the other certifiably viable options aren't to your liking)
Cheers
Thanks a bunch hammer...I did what you said and it gave me a lot more room, but not enough for now.
Sorry I meant to thank Eugene Hammer, if you do get that working please let me know because to me that would be worth paying for.
Hey everyone. I have searched around and can't find an answer to this, so here goes;
I have a Verizon Galaxy S4 and while I love the phone and all the ROM's out for it, I HATE that due to it's limited 16GB internal memory, I am CONSTANTLY running out of space on the phone. I have moved everything I can to my SD card but still can't get it down. When I open my phone on my PC and look at the internal memory, I see a ton of folders that I don't know what the hell they are. I would love to just go through arbitrarily and delete them all but obviously that's not a great idea. Can anyone tell me and/or compile a list of files and folders that commonly end up on our phones from bloat and whatnot?
Here's a screenshot of what I see in mine, just as a for instance...
Do you have a lot of photos?
They would be in the DCIM folder

Thanks for the reply. There are a lot in there. Can I not move that folder to the SD card?
I only got the S4 last Saturday, and today UPS brought my 32G SD card. When I went to the camera app to see if there were any way to change the target location, a popup said (about), "You now have an SD card, so all single shots will now go there. Multi-shots will still go to the internal storage." There is indeed a setting for that though, Internal or SD. I plan to leave the DCIM folder on the Internal, but let it be empty

You probably already know this...but here goes:
-By all means invest in an external sdcard. Use the sdcard to store all your pictures, video, music and any other documents you may be storing on your phone.
-There are two apps in the Play Store that enable you to "sort of" move apps to sdcard. Aparted will allow you to partition your sdcard. You create a partition that will be reserved for app data, cache and other "stuff". Link2SD is the app that will use that partition to "link" your apps to the data etc being stored on the sdcard partition. I saved about 1gb by using these two apps. This only works on your downloaded apps, not on system apps. Your apps will update and run as normal, but their associated data etc will be stored on the sdcard partition you create.
-Consider the type ROM you're running, if you have an option. Generally speaking, TW ROMs are more "heavy" than AOSP ROMS. You have to pick your poison. If you like and use all the unique features Samsung has put on the S4 (hand gestures, smart screen etc) then a AOSP ROM may not be what you want as your daily driver. Yes, it will use less resources in terms of RAM and internal storage, but some of those unique features that you like will not be available because most of the supporting firmware has been removed in an AOSP ROM. If you're forced to use SafeStrap to flash ROMs then your options are even fewer.
-There are a number of "safe to remove or freeze" list floating around on the web or in this forum. Like most things, one man's passion is another man's poison. Just because some guy says "xxxx.apk" is safe to remove or freeze doesn't mean it won't have an undesirable effect for you. Besides, you really don't save a lot of storage space by deleting most of those things. Unless it is truely "bloat" like NFL Football or Blockbuster I just freeze those things associated with functions or apps that I know I will never use. On a TW ROM that usually means most of the Samsung "stuff".
Hope this helps.
Remove Stuff
Removing all of the Samsung stuff that you dont use dose free up some space. Even with that I have found on the TW roms I can only hold 2 of them on my internal storage. Usually I have my Daily driver rom on there and any new roms that I want to try I just have to keep deleing those when I want to put a new one on.
Hello Everyone.
I own a Samsung Galaxy Ace (S5830) and until 2 days ago i was running a CM7 on it until it suddenly just stopped working and the phone hung in some kind of boot loop. That's when i decided to "upgrade" to a newer version of CM and searched for everything necessary.
I tried some CM11 alpha but since it's pretty unstable (at least the version i had was) i tried others until i settled for a stable 10.2 version (cm-10.2-20140309-UNOFFICIAL-cooper++). So far i am pretty happy since it actually is running very smoothly on my phone and i did not expect that at all. But then i ran into the same issue that basically everyone owning this phone runs into - it's very limited internal space.
Fact is i do need some google apps since i'm using gmail and synchronizing my contacts through it. Also i want to use Whatsapp, basically the only reason for me having a smartphone right now. I Installed the Dolphin Browser aswell since a decent browser is also something i'd like to use from time to time, but it seems to be full on external anyways so it should not count towards the internal storage.
Problem is now, all that is already too much for the phone's internal storage to handle since whatsapp has to stay on internal - at least that's my experience - and the google-play services that are needed aswell are placed on internal too without option of moving them.
I tried some things but basically all of them failed on one or another weird way..
- titanium backup - uninstalled system apps that i am not using (radio, browser, google play voice things, etc.) but after a reboot they were all back again. Even before rebooting, uninstalling them seemed not to open up space at all.
- Link2SD - tried linking whatsapp to my SD card, failed since whatsapp wasn't running very stable anymore. If anyone has a solution for this i'd love to hear it!
- App2SD - didn't even show any internal apps, and wasn't helping at all.
Also something i've tried, i have a message backup for whatsapp that's ~14mb but lies on my SD card. Problem seems to be that Whatsapp on recovering these messages put's them somewhere on the internal storage, at least it takes those ~14mb away from it after it recovered them. I tried to change the path whatsapp uses for internal storing of data with the app 'FolderMount' (like i found tutorials on the internet for exactly this issue) but wasn't even able to locate the internal stored data :/ Not because i just didn't find it, but because it seems not to exist...
I know i can't really increase the size of the internal storage but i think there has to be something i can do. I can't even update whatsapp since i am just living on the edge of the "low storage space" message with 20-15mb left.
What i am hoping now through this thread is to get some ideas or options how i could free up some space, move some apps around to SD maybe (utilize Link2SD correctly) or in the end basically have the things i need but some free storage on internal so that i can use my phone, maybe even install apps on SD (without them touching internal space) and have some room to update the important apps like whatsapp.
