What made you choose EVO LTE vs Galaxy S3? Any regrets? - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Hey guys.
I know there will be a bias towards EVO LTE then the S3. I'm just trying to get some honest opinions.
Currently I own the original EVO. I'm torn between both phones. I'm leaning towards the EVO (kick stand, brighter screen, looks better). But the 2GB RAM in the S3 sounds nice a advantage.
How do you guys feel about the 1GB ram. Generally more ram = better performance after long usage. So do you guys feels 1GB is enough?

What is it search isn't working or the other threads all over XDA discussing 1gb vs 2gb, isn't enough for you?

Even out of that 2GB of RAM, your still gonna have just as much free RAM as you do with the EVO you got now. Be happy with it. S3 is a good device, but I'll stick with HTC.

I had the OG EVO as well. I wanted to stick to HTC and while Samsung is the apple of Android marketing, the people I know with Samsung devices say they just don't hold up.
I love htcs build quality and the camera on this thing kicks arse
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2

the GS3 feels cheap and like plastic the build quality is of the evo is great

After owning the fascinate gs2 and gnex I am burned out on Samsung build quality the overrated samoled screens so I decided to get the evo it has great build quality the screen is probably the best I've seen on any phone. But sense and the lack of RAM does kinda turn me off hopefully jb will help this phone out but it should have at least another half gig of RAM

I dont like samsung phones... too plasticy and they just dont feel furable. I also feel their amoled screens make colors look too saturated and unrealistic. Though honestly.. I had an HTC Amaze 4g for about 5 days before i got the Evo 4G LTE...and I liked the amaze better. Considering going back. =/ Ill post my reasons for that if anyone inquires. But I did pick the Evo LTE over samsung

Came from an iPhone 4S...I needed a good phone with a good screen.
This screen is perfect. Plus its beats audio EQ which puts it on par with iPhones/iPods. I only compare it to the iPhone because Retina display, EQ, and iMessage are the only things Apple got right imo (well, they didn't get iMessage right but I'm not here to bash Apple). 2/3 is good. Plus all of the Android goodness...this is like heaven.

I don't like cheap phones and I've been with HTC since the HTC touch

I personally have had issues with the speaker being too low for my taste. But it's definitely usable and I wouldn't imagine you'd be using hand-free in a loud or public environment so for what it's worth it'll work.

I dont feel the speaker is as loud as the og EVO. Maybe with custom kernels it will get louder, but I'm not sure if that's headjack loudness or external speaker they can modify. Maybe both?

Speaker is definitely lower than the original Evo but louder than the 3D..the original Evo speaker was perfectly loud.

Ya know. I was listening to 2 Podcasts a while back before the phone e was released. One was android Central and the other was Twit. They both were talking about how the S3 had 2GB of RAM, but somehow the S3 has so much more going on within the device, it eats up a buncha ram. It was so long ago, I can't remember exactly what was explained. Is wish I could. But when it was explained it made perfect sense. My buddy in work has an S3. I gotta make sure now so I don't make myself look like a comets **** LOL. It kinda irritates me when people and even some of these lame ass Blogs, say it's the best device of all time, cause it has one more GB of RAM..... I call BS on that brotha,
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2

I have the Evo because I traded my 4s for it. May or may not get the S3 or the next Nexus with my upcoming upgrade. I'm really loving the Evo though.

I don't regret buying HTC.
I love HTC phones, but, the future of development for people who root is with samsung. Everyone is buying their phones unfortunately
Sent from my EVO using xda premium

Samsung claims they added the extra gb of ram to future proof it for jb. However, It's painfully obvious you don't need 2gb of ram to run jb, so it having an extra gig is a moot point to me.
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2

I have both. The HTC build quality can't be touched. The display is a toss up... the HTC is more natural and lifelike while the Samsung is more vibrant. The s3 speed and performance is ahead... by a lot in day to day use.

I played with an S3 briefly today. Nice phone, but ugly. Both the hardware and software are ugly. No noticeable difference in speed between my rooted overclocked EVO running Flex's ROM and that stock S3... Haha.

[Q] try another sensation or get the amaze?

So I had bought an HTC Sensation this past Thursday. Yesterday I noticed dust behind the screen. Googled it and found it was a big problem for some and they exchanged it. Being within my 14 days I went today to exchange my sensation which T-Mobile did right away. Get back to work and start setting up the phone and notice an even bigger piece of dust under the screen! I went back after work to get a third one. The guy there then let me see the amaze. I liked it but do like the looks of the sensation better. Amaze was faster and smoother.
So basically I am the kind of person where yes dust under the screen annoys the crap out of me and I expect more from paying that much for a phone. So what would you do? Get a third sensation and hope for no dust or get the amaze and deal with the looks? (I love the back of the amaze but hate the metal ring, but it is starting to grow on me)
you answered your own question seriously bro
I'm thinking along the same lines as the OP here...got seriously burnt (and annoyed) with the Sensation, had 2 units both with exactly the same problem and have now received a full refund the piece of crap! So...I do like the looks of the HTC units and my wife is in the market for a new phone (upgrade from the Desire) and the Amaze fits the bill...and so far from googling, I've not foun any "serious" recurrent problems...
On a slightly different topic, but still sort of related (!) can anyone tell me if the Amaze 4g unit will work in Australia (I know there is no 4g here yet, but its coming next year apparently)?
I still say sensation because if development but amaze is picking up so for the more ram but mostly camera sensor maybe amaze.

I came from a Sensation and sometimes I rather miss it., because of the dev community. It is a solid phone that looks good and has the right size weight and thickness. (only if you get the ones without the dust in the glass).
I upgraded to an amaze because of the camera, dedicated video and camera buttons, NFC, larger memory, built in 16gb and also better front facing camera. At this point I like it a lot. The phone works well and the pictures are an improcement, (more details in low light).
IMO the screen seems to be more vivid and brighter than the sensation, even tho they say it is the same screen.
I am just waiting for the Amaze dev community to grow and this will be even better than the sensation. (bad timing for the Amaze community cuz of waiting on ICS, dev doesn't want to put too much time into and older build when ICS is coming in a moth or so.

I had both as well as the Inspire 4G and the G2 and I would say the Amaze is the best phone I've ever used hands down. Just like all phones, development takes time but it is progressing at the same pace as anything else I think. I was happy with my Sensation but the Amaze is just so much better.
As a totally happy and satisfied user of a rooted glacier, would I notice any substantial improvement in just the overall experience of using the phone?
The only major plus I see is the larger screen in terms of real tangible differences that I would notice immediately.
Are there any "must have" features that the amaze would deliver that the average user would notice and benefit from?

Welcome fellow Ruby user. For the extra $29, you have at least future proofed your phone for an extra 3-6 months with the extra stuff that the Sensation doesn't have.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a former Sensation user and love it. But the Amaze has more RAM, better camera (backlit illuminated), better front cam 2mp, dedicated camera button and video button, louder speaker, NFC, faster CPU out of the box (even tho the Sensation is underclocked with the same chip), larger battery (but doesn't last as long), and IMO a brighter and clearer screen (even tho it's supposedly the same screen; maybe I got a better batch this time).
Enjoy it.
So initial impression from sensation was that this amaze is definetly bigger. Couple hours later and I'm already used to it and love it.
Camera buttons are awesome.
Stock for stock it destroys the sensation.
I'm a very happy guy right now

TBH, you have [legally] 18 month software support. Even further, you get a PHENOMENAL camera and 4g support. The Amaze will have much coming to it over the next 18 months.

Help Decide

I am looking to get a new Sprint phone this week. I have narrowed it down to the EVO LTE or the Galaxy Nexus. Both look great in person, not sure what route to go. Thanks guys
evo for sure...the specs are much better and it will be even better when roms like cm9 and aokp get some stability
I say wait a few more days and then you can compare the EVO 4g LTE, galaxy nexus and the Galaxy s3.
I agree. Go with the evo. In a couple months you will be able to choose a really good aosp room if you want like the person before me said plus you get better cpu, better screen, kickstand, better camera, sd card, and the phone just feels better.
EVO hands down.
If the choice is between those two models then the EVO winds hands down, but in my opinion, with the Galaxy S III coming out very soon, you'd be foolish not to wait and AT LEAST compare/play with both (EVO and GS3) before making your final decision.

Yea the battery is not as big of a deal as ppl make it out . Don't let that make your decision
The EVO lte is on a whole different level buddy. The screen is pretty Damn accurate, unless you prefer over saturation, the battery is surprisingly better then my EVO 3d/og.I can get 6hrs screen on time and standby is ridiculous,I charge once a day when not gaming. Removable sd card ,oh and I'm a sense lover! The camera still amazes me day after day or should I say night after night lol. I hardly use the kickstand (got used to my evo3d). It is VERY fast for a dual 1.5 ghz. Honestly all I could ask for is maybe 512mb of more ram. It doesn't lag,but I do catch myself sometimes with only 180mb free. The only thing I like about the galaxy nexus is the ability to swap batteries. Which really isn't needed.

This..
Plus the camera, I love this thing.
The kickstand is also superb.
But the screen, the SCREEN is by far the best ever IMHO. "I popped out my Otterbox Defender Screen protector excellent" not overly saturated & crisp.
I thoroughly enjoy the hardware of the EVO LTE.

OK guys let's be honest, is the Sensation more worthwhile than the amaze

Before you go and bash me saying we do one of these threads like every week I'm just asking an honest question. is it worth it to trade an amaze for a sensation or go to the sensation from the amaze because if development and support
The down side is less RAM slightly worse camera and no internal storage
But besides that speed wise they should be similar since they run the same chip.
Software is a huge part of the phone, and I don't want the one s because it doesn't have a removable battery and storage.
What should I do? I think me and my amaze have been together long enough
Damn noob... There's a Q&A Section.
Noooo it's a discussion thread
In my opinion Sensation is better than Amaze since it gets more software supports (official CM, yah), integrated SoC (seems to be more power efficient), and is slightly thinner.
Hey eclipze! I personally think that the trading to the sensation is a good decision unless your snagging some cash. But I personally have owned 3 sensations. And have had one at the same time as having an amaze. I compared my stock amaze side by side with my cm 9 sensation. And the speed, smoothness, and stability of my amaze was noticeably better than the sensation. So while having the support, I really don't think it out performs the amaze. I had a sensation when the amaze came out. I was honestly laughing at the amaze. It seemed like a terrible phone choice for tmobile to push because it was arguably the same specs as the amaze. I thought this for a long time. I then had an opportunity to get an amaze dirt cheap, I planned on just reselling (besides wanting to play with the camera). But once I played with it I immediately noticed a difference in performance. That aside... Out of probably 4 sensations that ever reached my hands, 3 had significant amounts of dust under the screen. This gradually increased overtime... So even if it didn't have dust to begin with, it happened eventually. Because I'm cheap... If I could find a sensation for around $150 and could sell this for over $250, I'd do it, and use the sensation until gsiii prices dropped. But unless you're getting money out of it I wouldn't find it worth it.

I think I'm having the same feelings as you. I have been thinking about switching to a different device that has more support and dev. Although, I haven't thought about the sensation. Personally, I wouldn't go to the sensation as an equal exchange. I would need cash on top since the amaze is an upgrade.
Although, I'm actually thinking about the sgs3 or the nexus. I found a s3 for 400 brand new, thinking about getting it right after this doctor's appointment.
EDIT: after some reading it seems that there are a lot of scams going on with people on CL and tmobile phones, specifically the sgs3. So maybe won't go down that route. :banghead:

I can personally care less. I don't like the Sensation as much. 14.4MB compared to 42MB. big difference for data. I originally bought my phone so I can tether it to my laptop and Xbox. I still do that. I'm happy with how the software is. I'm not a flashaholic so I really don't mind. Sure, it is slow around here. At least I made some friends around here and people know me.

I got an Amaze knowing its issues. The performance is ok and its size/weight is not as much an issue for me since it is tapered. The lack of wifi source this late is infuriating. The battery life is also mediocre at best. IMO the main problem with the amaze is the crappy HSPA+ modem that was first gen, a huge power hog, and made the phone bulky as well.
But I probably would not downgrade to the sensation despite better rom support and battery life. I'd rather just wait for the successor to the Amaze or the next google phone.

Not that impressed with the galaxy nexus 4. It's a great value proposition but early reviews are not the greatest. The more cores you have the more battery problems you have. The LG camera is mediocre and I am not sure of the build quality. 16gb is still a joke IMO. Give me a 32gb option at least.
Staying with the Amaze because of the camera, camera button, removable battery, storage options. I am not upgrading to a phone with less features no matter what. I think HTC will come out with something decent next spring for T-mobile. Something like AT&T's One X+ but with a dual core Krait instead. I'd rather have S4 than Tegra at this point; better battery life.

Evo appreciation

Can I just throw some love to the evo's display. I've had mine for like 5 months and this display still blows me away. Colors are perfect and text is so sharp.
Also the build quality still amazes me and people I show it to are always impressed with how thin it is.
Battery life is also great and I can pretty consistently make it through the day with typical usage.
I don't use the kick stand much but when I do it is very handy to have.
Been running stock sense for like a month and dont hate it. It adds a lot of functionality and the keyboard is pretty accurate with very few mistypes.
Love this phone!
That is all

Build and hardware are great. Sense camera is best out there but whenever I use another same tier android phone, I'm reminded of how slow sense is, even after the jb update.

I definitely noticed the little extra lag when I went from cm10 back to stock but I don't notice it anymore. Everything I'd smooth and the stability is top notch.

Yea loving my evo 4g lte right now and not too impressed with the m7 specs might actually keep this phone til my upgrade date depending on what windows phone comes to spint and when.
I love my evo as well but that isnt gonna stop me from getting that m7 on release day...gotta have the latest and greatest ...I'm sure it will improve upon an already terrific and very underated, underappreciated device which is the LTE ...don't think I can ever stray from the sense camera now..it has spoiled me lol
I love this phone as well. The camera and screen still amaze me. I'm also a huge Sense fan.

I just came from the optimus g (which I still have) now in terms of speed lgog beats the evo hands down, not by a lot tho. But with overall experience and screen quality and camera quality evo all day. I am so happy is bought one. With a good Rom & kernel evo is a beast with great battery life. Only if you coukd install another gig of ram, this phone would be my primary for a lot longer. It is truly sad how under rated it really is.:beer::beer::beer::beer:

I don't understand why people think Sense is "slow". Sense is not "slow". It might make UI framerates a bit laggy at times, but it's not slow. Unless you use a stopwatch and measure app opening and operation times between Sense and AOSP, there's really nothing "slow" about it. The processors we have in these phones are so insanely fast that OEM overlays basically do nothing to the speed at which Android operates.

Do you have any screenshots or stats of your battery life? I'm thinking about switching my gs3 for my mom's evo but I want to make sure that the battery life won't be much worse.

Love my ELTEVO. There's no phone out there right now that I would even trade even for.
Maybe when the note 3 comes out.

The new camera is nothing to scoff at, to be fair.
The One looks nice. Low light camera performance is super important to me so I look forward to seeing how it performs.
Stereo speakers are nice but I'm sure ill still want headphones. Hopefully the evo lte gets some sense 5 love.

Love my evo. Best phone I've had to date. Even if I had an upgrade I wouldn't use it right now. I don't see any device as a big upgrade from what we got

Coming from a nexus 4 the EVO LTE is awesome. My Nexus (bought directly from google) had this weird thing where it rattled, and it honestly felt cheap. I like the back glass of the n4 more than the plasticky look of the evo but I stuck a case on it and now I don't notice it at all. Basically the same in terms of processor speed, and the battery life on this phone is light years better. Also, having a microSD card slot makes me feel privileged.. 16GB just doesn't cut it. Oh, and i personally like the Sense camera better. Not sure which one the tech gods think is better but the only advantage the N4 had was that "photo sphere" garbage which quite frankly wasn't that special.
So compared to the N4, I love my EVO.
Oh, and the GS3 felt like one of those toy candy-filled phones you see at the dollar store.
That is all.
