I just read an article on goodandevo.net about how the og evo is just over 2 years old now. I'm not sure if this post belongs in the evo 4g section or the lte one, but It pertains to both.
My og evo could do anything, native hotspot, overclock, underclock, roam only, undervolt, virtually anything I asked of it, it could do. Short of printing out money for me to pay my bill, it was all I needed. And thats pretty much what this is about.
I don't know if Its the evo 4g lte itself, or just me, but I'm finding it hard to, I don't want to say like this phone, but I guess its on the line of that or give this phone a chance.
Going from a phone that has had every single thing hacked, any rom you could ever imagine, any kernel, any app, you could dream of... To a phone that still has bugs and issues to be worked out is more of a challenge than I originally even though about.
My only real concern that I had when I got this phone about a month ago was wifi hotspot. I use it as my daily internet source. With my og evo I used open garden for a while, it was the most reliable for me, then I switched to Swagged Out Stock rom and it had the native hotspot and tethering app unlocked.
But now that I'm on the lte, I'm realizing just how much more I depended on that phone. I miss the kernals, the unlimited amount of roms, the different radios I could flash, I bricked my og evo 3 times, sent it into bootloop I can't even count how many times, and even had the screen smashed twice. One of the times I ran it over with my truck after forgetting it under there using it as a flashlight.
I am excited for what the lte holds in store but Im quickly reminded of the "you don't know what you'you've got till it's gone" syndrome.
What are some of the things you guys are missing from your og evos and 3d's?
What are some of the things youre looking forward to with the evo 4g lte?
Sorry for the rant btw.

never had an evo or a 3d but i have had phones of that era. i miss the wifi hotspot and tethering FOR FREE... but then companies decided to get greedy.
I got error 67 a few times on my old evo 4g, then I learned all about rooting, and flashing and especially things like nandroid backups, its killing me when I try to tether on this phone and one minute it will work and the next it won't
Plus my data is always disconnecting, on my og evo, that usually meant it was time to call sprint and have an extension put on my bill because i forgot to pay it.

I don't miss a thing. This phone does what it's supposed to do. ROMS, OC, undervolting...all that falls under the category of wants and things that are nice to have. The difference between the OG EVO and this phone is that right now I can say ROMS and undervolting are wants for this phone...but those are things you need for that phone. That phone stock wasn't all that great. And even with the ROMS and all the dev community has to offer...I'd still stick it out with this phone and be happier with this phone.
These posts...I don't really like them because it makes it seem as if there's something really wrong with what we have now and that's not true. People are just building up these phones and expect so much from them on day one...it's a damn shame. The OG EVO seems godlike now but people were complaining a little while after it came out just like how people are complaining now. People complained about the Epic 4G and then the EVO 3D...SGS II and now this phone and there are probably complaints for the SGS III. Just because ____'s dev scene isn't as big as _____'s...this phone is a disappointment. Do you really think you'd be happier with the OG EVO dev scene? You can try and say yes...but if that were the case, why are there still people complaining?
I'm happier with my non rooted phone now than I ever was when I had my phone rooted on any other device. Back with the OG EVO..so many things were wrong with it that you HAD to flash ROMS if you wanted it to be decent. It wasn't necessarily a luxury...luxury came with choosing a ROM and even then that made me feel even worse because some ROMS had things I did like while others didn't..so I basically in the same boat as not rooting when you think about it (because the custom ROMS had some features stock didn't and vice versa). With this phone now...it does what I NEED it to do. I can put my wants aside because I'm currently happy. Not saying this phone doesn't have its faults and I know people will be quick to bring them up...I would also like to add that that's part of the problem. Should we overlook the flaws? No. But I'm not going to let them ruin my experience. I personally remember what it was like without a smartphone and if my BIGGEST problem with this phone is multitasking...how in the hell can I be upset?
This phone has only been out for a month or two and other than multitasking...I don't see anything wrong but that's because I don't look for anything wrong. Other than multitasking, all my apps work so I'm happy...calls are clear, audio is great, it's all good. Multitasking isn't the only problem I've noticed though...I've also noticed that some games don't work but eh, I can live with that. Now comparing that to the OG E when it came out...this phone is doing A LOT better. I mean sheesh...when the OG came out you could barely use the damn keyboard unless you rooted the phone or waited for the update that came out months later.
So idk...I'm just not understanding these rants. I just don't get them. If that's how we view phones, we'll never be happy. I mean c'mon...if you ONLY got this phone hoping that the dev scene would be just as good as another phone's dev scene on day one...that's a damn shame. If you ONLY got this phone for the dev scene...that's a shame. The fact of the matter is that unless you got this phone for the dev scene, you got this phone because you know that it's going to be BETTER than what you came from. Dev scene aside, if this phone is not better than OG E and you really miss so much from it..just go back to the OG E. If all you care about is the dev scene...go to the Nexus. Simple as that.
This phone can native hotspot for free...

I agreeeeeeeeeee!!! The only thing wrong with this phone is the multitasking and ram issue which I think is a ram leak and will definitely be fixed over time. I play around with both my Evo's Og and the LTE and the difference is night and day. I swear I fully charged my Evo og yesterday and took it off the charger and let it sit with only wifi on and played with my LTE evo with close to 80% battery and the Og died while doing nothing. While my LTE was still going strong. Mind you I played airport city, browsed the net, pandora, poweramp, Gtalk, Facebook, streamed some pics and about 30 minutes of a movie to my Xbox 360 from the imediashare app and a phone call and my battery was good. People just nitpick for no reason. Single people do this. Because, they're never satisfied.
I really like this phone. I set roaming to automatic and it does almost as well as my OG did in Sprint only mode. I also don't have to worry about having extra batteries. Rooting was fun too, I got to learn all about the 14 cycles of unbricking.
The slide action keyboard and it's uncanny ability to preclude the addition of any spaces after punctuations and inability to retroactively capitalize, saves a lot of processor power, and letts me get familiar with the space bar. ShapeWriter keyboard which is too small in this huge resolution screen was written years ago, and needed to be replaced, only wish the functionality had been brought in.
Seriously keeping the EVO OG incase I bend this one.
OP I understand where your coming from. Kinda had a feeling like that on the first day with this phone, but then I realized how much HTC finally improved everything from OG. Granted I'm S-Off for the future but I'm still on stock with root, and its amazing that a majority of people are still very happy on it.
If your wanting every type of mod similar to the OG, time is not your friend for now. Give it 8 months to a year for stuff to start changing in that direction. Until then, enjoy what HTC envisioned, because it could be worse!
Totally agree with ms79723.

I understand what youre saying, and I do love this phone, I'm fully just being inpatient, and I know I am. Thats life. I was spoiled with everything I could do by the end of my run with the og evo, that not being able to do as much in terms of flashing is a bumming me out. I didn't flash roms because I needed to, I did it purely for fun, I would read reviews about a new one (and they're still being updated today) and flash it for a couple of days. I would flash multiple kernals a day. And I got used to the luxury of it.
Don't get me wrong, I love this phone, the graphics, the camera, its fast, plenty of storage, and when the ball really gets rolling with this phone, and I mean everything gets working its gonna be astounding. I can't wait.
Sent from my EVO
What I really don't miss about flashing roms is having to restore all my old apps and resync all my email accts, etc. Really don't miss the random reboots from unstable roms or in the later life of the og EVO low memory from trying to run roms too powerful for it.
I really like the EVO LTE. The battery lasts 3x as long as the og EVO did. The screen is beautiful and just as impressive as the og EVO was on day 1. Overall, if the S3 wasn't released within a month of the EVO LTE it would be up there with the og EVO in terms of popularity.
If we had a good 6 months head start on the S3.... Man, I can only speculate.

How awful was the og evo's battery right? Loving my LTE. This phone feels like a big upgrade unlike the EVO 3D.
Sent from my HTC Evo LTE
The new EVO LTE does everything the OG EVO does/did in my opinion and 4x the speed etc. Remember, source was just released, a lot more to come with JB source as well etc.

I just miss the data speed of wimax because 3g in the SF bay area is anywhere from barely ok to holy crap this is slower than my 56k modem. Other than that the phone on the whole is an upgrade across the board. The 2 evos i have are being used as remotes for my living room and bedroom now.
Same here. I had the og evo since it came out and used it until the ltevo came out. The ltevo has been a huge downgrade in real world function despite the far superior hardware nominal specs.
About the only things that are better are more flash so that my apps no longer are out of room, and google wallet is kind of fun to use, and battery life is a little better.
But I had managed to get by with app2sd before and, and google wallet is merely fun to play with, not an actually important function yet. Even the larger screen isn't that bigvof a deal bc tge og evo screen is pretty big already.
Camera doesn't focus right, links to maps and youtube don't open the native app even after rooting and applying the supposed fixes, radio reception sucks, wifi constantly fails to hand off to 3g or other wifi nets when you drive away from one you were connected to, neither the stock nor any other car mode works worth a crap, of course the well known multitasking, I really can't even think of all the unneccesary problems when I try to list them like this because they are so many that I am forced to get good at dealing with them and moving on 30 times a day. It's so many little things that it adds up to a constant, somewhat crappy experience. I wish I could have two phones use the same number because I would actually use my og evo a lot of the time right now rather than fight with this thing. Heck there's another one, writing this post, for some reason it's a lot harder for me to write on this keyboard than the og evo. And why do the arrow keys appear sometimes and not others? I make mistakes a lot and re-word things a lot and I need the arrow keys for editing, but here iin the xda-premium app, no arrows. Other apps they're there. Some things are not necessarily htc's fault but they're still a downgrade from the og. Like the damned lack of menu button, forcing the on-screen button to appear in most apps that were great before, again such as xda-premium.
The phone is cool if you never owned a phone before, but a lot of user experience crossing t's and dotting i's are missing and all in all it's a downgrade from the og.

I agree with this completely. I made the mistake of buying the 3D assuming it would have the same dev support was going to be as legendary as the Evo 4G's (a phone which I never had the chance to own). Needless to say, it constantly made me feel like my phone wasn't good enough, even though software wise there was nothing wrong with it (hardware though, that was a different story).
Now that I have this phone, I've come to appreciate what the stock experience offers. I'm using Flex's optimized stock ROM, and I find myself keeping my current ROM and less interested in flashing things for the sake of flashing them.
I've arrived at a point with Android where I want my phone to be my phone, I don't want to keep wondering "can I push it harder". I'm going to let other people do the testing for me, and when they do, when I'm ready, I'll use the end product and I want to enjoy it.
Afterall, Google Now (whenever we get JB) needs a long time to fully understand your life before it becomes as useful as they say. Can't exactly establish that if I keep switching ROMs

I got better reception with my og evo I think, data connection didnt drop off like it does with this phone.
Again dont get me wrong, I'm.obsessed with this phone, but I'm not a dev, so I'm waiting, hoping, and praying that itbgets the same support the og evo is STILL gettingml.

Im 2 days away from my 30 day return window an im gettin antsy an kinda thinkin of swappin for a nexus.... whata you guys think. Should i suck it up an wait for the photon to become a beast or swap for the nexus an flash away.... honest opinions would be great an appreaciated. Thanks

I wouldn't recommend exchanging it the nexus has a single core no sd card less and slower ram no international capabilities not as hi res screen just to list a couple of reasonto stay
I own a Nexus S too. And I'd say that it's a better device overall even with its single core. What keeps me away from it is exactly your reason of moving away from your Photon - boredom. Have had it for over 6 months. It's old generation hardware already. Wouldn't you rather wait for the Nexus Prime?

If you trade in at least swap for a newer device that is closer in specs. Have you considered the EVO 3D or Epic Touch 4G? You could easily swap for another 30 days and then again if you wanted the Photon back or another phone. This would give you a month or so to play around.
It boil down to what you want
if your a flash o holic and want to really go to town...why not get a used unlocked GSM development phone put in a prepay sim as a 2nt phone
I would go with the evo 3d if anything. The nexus has been plagued with radio issues. Or just get your upgrade back and wait it out. I used to be a flash a holic as well but I have slowed down a bunch over the years and find myself sticking to roms that are snappy and well build like cm7 or synergy.
Do what you like, I personally would have probably stayed with the evo 3d if the reception and call quality wasn't so poor. No point in a super phone if I roam all the time and drop calls.

Thanks for the opinions. Im stayin with the photon. Biggest reason ill be stayin is no sd card on the nexus. Thanks guys

IMO, I would stay away from Samsung. My last Samsung phone was total crap.
I tend to prefer HTC and LG phones. In my past and more recently, HTC and LG have had great support for their phones when I contacted the corporate office.
I am loving my photon and I loved my Motorola flip phone back in the old days (the one with one line display that was red and the phone was very bulky).
I am also not the type of person to root my phone. I place more importance on a working reliable phone then my ability to root and flash new roms. From my understanding, Samsung allows rooting and custom roms more so then Motorola does. I also do not root because I do not want to void my warranty ... I'm too busy with work and school to try and resuscitate my bricked phone. I also do not have $600 laying around to replace my photon if it's dead. I'm happy with changing my wallpaper when I'm in the mood. Also, the photon is the best android phone I've had (had the HTC Eris, craptacular Samsung moment, HTC evo shift, and now the Motorola photon).
Having said all that, I find the photon meets my needs but you will have to figure out what is more important to you.

I am a flashaholic as well but my main reasons for flashing were to find optimal battery life, and an overall snappy phone. Once I installed decks rom on my EVO I never flashes another rom. The photon has everything I was trying to achieve in the EVO....so I've really had no urge to flash but I know once we get some good roms going, we will be flashaholics again...lol

same here. i found myself flashin daily to try everything on my evo. reason i did it is bc i wanted a fast and amazing phone. with the flashing, i got tired of always building up the phone again and such. i told myself that the next phone ill get, ill just root it and stick with stock other then maybe the kernel.
been using the mopho and havent had the urge to flash yet. sure undervolting would be nice, but i used setcpu the other day and had the screen off setting at 216/312 and when it was too low to keep pandora from not skippin when screen off. so i dont think id need any more under volting.
i use just juice defender and i get about 16 hours of medium/heavy use till she beeps at me (phone calls, lots of texting, and web browser)
i think this phone has excellent audio and sound. and i havent had the mute phone calls other then day 1. on performance mode and latest updates work well for me. I normally reboot my phone after 3 to 4 days just bc electronics tend to like it. did the same with my evo.
honestly, i dont see any other phone out there that could offer more. a world wide phone like this one. use a phone for what its built for, to stay connected to the world.
if you have the urge to flash, id buy one seperate just for the heck of it to flash and pimp out. im super happy with the mopho so far. love having the best signal around the office compared to everyone else.
Ditto to lroy's statement above.

Wait for the Photon to become a beast? Really? How? It is what it is and will be. As for the Nexus, why would you take a step backwards? Just because you can? There is the Samsung Epic 4G Touch coming out in two weeks. You could take the Photon back, use an old phone for 2 weeks and get the Sammy. Then after a couple of weeks you can take that back and get the iPhone5.
If you are looking for enough people to say "yea do it" go ahead.

Had the epic 4g an no lie smashed it. Hate samsung. An the photon will become a beast, between dedicated devs an the fact google bought motorola. I love the phone its sexyyyy, an comin from an evo runnin cm7 oc, undervolted themed an sooo on i think im just havein flash withdrawls. I will be keepin the photon an as we speak im gettin a second line with a nexus just to hold me over lolol

im coming from teh nexus, its one of teh better devices out there... HOWEVER with the new nexus due out shortly and the et4g this month there is no reason to get it. if your not happy with the photon now your not going to be.
Who's taking the Photon back when the GSII comes in a week? Im taking it back because there are too many dumb things happening with this phone, the reboots and such. Plus there isn't too much going on with the Dev side either.
Why do people keep spamming the board with threads that already exist... I just don't understand.
And for the record, i've had my Mopho rooted and unlocked since the first week with yayrom installed (ive owned it for a little over a month). I havn't had any problems... The same can be said for countless other. The dev community is fine. You dont need countless bugged roms, just a few quality ones from quality developers. We have that. Adopt patience, it's a virtue. And well, if you dont have any, have fun with your sg2. We could use less user spam anyway.

Mines never rebooted once in the week I've had it. Today we have a further 2 roms available in development, things seem to be picking up. Besides I cannot take mine back as it would be a hefy price from the UK to the States, not that I want to anyways, love this phone

I was thinking about it but after taking a look at the Samsung infuse at an att store I changed my mind. 800 x 460 screen resolution on a 4.54 inch screen is fail.
I agree with i made a video discussing the build quality samsung makes all there phone plastic that feels really cheap. I had the infuse and charge and it feels real cheap motorola just on build quality is amazing prime example test out the epic 4g and then a droid 3 its a major difference. The photon is a beast and people just go along with reviews from people like phonedog that test out phones and there not actual using them as there personal phone. The epic touch is basically a infuse with a few changes the photon is so different and i agree i would rather have a couple stable roms then a bunch of unstable ones my take it from me because i would listen to those people and go out and buy phone after phone listen to them talking about this is the best when it wasnt. Now i know whats good and whats garbage. On the photon really all u need is it rooted changed to launcher pro and setcpu and its amazing

The CDMA radio in the Photon is reason enough to hang on to it, i can make phone calls in places i never could before with my Evo 4G and my Evo Shift.
The other day my phone was sitting side by side with a Verizon Thunderbolt, the T-bolt didn't have service and my Photon was roaming on Verizon with 3 bars.
I also get full service at work (on sprints network) where i only had one to two bars with my Evo.
Wanna hear something funny. The radios on this device rock for me. I was in a hospital waiting room the other day while a family member was having surgery and I had to provide a wifi hotspot for my brother and my uncle who were using T-Mobile and AT&T. Ain't that the ****!

That's kinda funny.
I just got a Thrill 4G and Im thinking about trading it in for an Atrix. The phone is great but the battery life sucks, and I cannot see the 3D screen with sun glasses on. I live in AZ so they are on every time I go outside so that is an important deciding factor for me.
The Atrix is $49 today so Im thinking about getting one. I'd love to hold out for the SGS2, but who knows when it will be out and it will prob be $199.
So, would you buy an Atrix again if you had to do it over again?
If I wouldn't of had to sell my first ATRIX I wouldn't have. My fave phone!
Tapped from my ATRIX.
No-brainer imo --- the atrix is FAR superior; I'll admit that with stock gingerbread the phone is kinda meh....still an awesome phone but nothing mindblowing. I assume since you're here you'll be unlocking and flashing it...which makes the phone AMAZING. The 3-D stuff just seems so gimmicky to me and won't be perfected/well-implemented for a good amount of time to come.
As far as the SGS2, on paper it looks like an amazing phone but I'll have to wait to see - I had the captivate and was so disappointed with it (anyone that had that phone from the beginning knows how horrendous Samsung's support was). I hope that Samsung has learned a lot since the beginning of the GS line because a phone with such amazing hardware shouldn't have so many problems.

I actually know exactly what you mean because I bought my Captivate a couple days after it was released. I still have it, dont use it, but I was really happy with it after flashing ROMS on it. The development forum on that phone is fantastic.
Yes, I would never have a stock phone. Did they ever get the bootloader unlocked on this phone? I know that was the major reason that people hesitated to get it.
i love my atrix. nothing out there is better to me. im running CM7 beta on it right now. so fast.
With CM7 , everything is happy
Love it, fast, nice camera, nice speaker, good gaming performance with THD games, great community.

I didn't miss it because I wasn't looking for it. I don't have an Atrix and was asking a question.
Everything I've read says that the Atrix also has poor battery life. I saw a thread on a battery calibration and mod that is supposed to help. I dont want to trade ina phone with bad battery life for another phone with bad battery life.
Both have a dual core CPU but the Atrix has 1GB of RAM which is nice IMO. I cant see the Thrill 3D screen with sunglasses on which sucks to me. The 3D is very gimmicky and hurts my eyes, lol. And there is only one ROM and the dev's seems to be bailing on this phone so I don't see a very good future in the Thrill dev threads.

Bad battery life reports are the vocal minority. Most of us here consider the battery to be one of the Atrix's strong points. I can get 2 1/2 days with light usage on mine with CM7 installed on it. Thats with wifi set to never sleep, and with GPS and 3G/HSPA enabled.
I love the Atrix. Literally the only problem I have with it is the pentile display, and even then its a very minor issue.
It has a 1930mAh and all the review sites i've read say the battery life is very good. Flashing a custom rom will make it even better! People have been getting like 16-24 hrs with Wifi and everything on, constantly browsing the internet and playing games (read it on youtube)
This is my first Android phone. Came from 4 years with the iPhone. Ill tell you this...not looking back. This phone was great stock. Now running cm7, this thing is fuggin amazing... battery and performance are nothing short of great.

The Atrix is an incredibly solid device. Gotta give AT&T credit for getting a top-notch device out of Motorola.
well it sounds like you guys are quite happy with it. If the battery life is that great then it's a no-brainer for $49.99. I do believe hat Im gonna return my thrill today. It a cool phone, but im a power user and ROM flashing addict so it seems i'll fit right in.

Good choice. The only HTC that is a solid Atrix competitor on AT&T (candybar Android w/o keyboard) is the Inspire4G, but honestly, after several HTC devices and several Moto devices, HTC may come up with cool designs and features, but Moto is great at implementing reliable, high-performing designs. I've never gotten the "oh, that is cheap" feeling with a Moto phone, while Samsung and HTC . . . meh!
Typically find out people who are complaining about battery life have heavy usage that would have even worse battery life on other phones. You had a captivate like I did, so I can tell you this phones battery kicks the **** out of the captivates....and will be even more amazing should you decide to UV it.
If you want to see a GOD AWFUL battery, **** around with an HTC inspire for about 6 hours lol.
Anyway, I think you should at least give the Atrix a try and worst case scenario you don't like it you bring it back within the 30 day window (assuming you will have one).

I guess I'm the lone dissenter here. I'm not a fan of the Atrix. Maybe I got a lemon but it seems like there are a lot of problems.
The build quality is suspect. Dust and even a very small piece of cat hair has gotten under the screen. The back plate/battery cover feels cheap and creaks when I hold it. The GPS is rarely able to get a lock on my position, rendering it useless. Also, bluetooth connection is unreliable. I've tried 2 vehicle systems and 3 headsets. They are all able to pair fine, but lose connection in the middle of phone calls.
And if you've done research on the Atrix I'm sure you've read all about Motoblur and how ugly it makes the UI. It's all true. I'm on gingerbread and I have to say its hideous. The stock in-call screen, dialer and photo gallery all look like something designed by an elementary student.
Can you flash it and fix the ugliness of the UI? I'm not a techy but from what I've read the answer seems to be mixed. It would appear yes you can just as long as the OTA update of gingerbread has not been installed on the phone. If it has, you're either screwed or prepare to spend the next 3 years of your life reading up on how to hack the device.
On the positive side, believe everything you've seen about the Atrix's speed. By far the fastest phone I've ever used. The screen is nice and bright as well.

There are many options to get rid of the stock gingerbread Motoblur look. The obvious choice is CM7, which will do away with Blur entirely, and make your phone quite a bit quicker. Most themes available in XDA will get rid of the Blur look, and there is a huge selection in the App and Theme section. I use the ext4 Homebase Rom with his Honeycomb theme, and it significantly speeds up my phone.
I would recommend the Atrix over other Android phones for a few reasons. The biggest reason why I like it so much is because of the form factor. I like the 4 inch screen more than 4.3 or 4.5 or 9.3. Battery life has been pretty good, at least as good as I can reasonably expect from a smartphone. The hardware specs are comparable to any other Android device, and if you're willing to root and flash custom Roms, you will notice a marked improvement over stock performance (which I think is true of any Android phone). What really makes this phone as slick as it is are its accessories. I just bought the lapdock from Vancouver Craigslist for $150 and I love it. I knew when I bought it that it was kind of gimmicky (like the 3D from your Thrill), but for what I need this tool for, it's been outstanding. Nothing beats watching Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad on my hour commute to work while simultaneously charging my phone!
I love my Atrix, and it's a shame the phone got such a bad wrap off the bat due poor implementation of Blur on 2.2, and encrypted bootloader. Now with the unlocked bootloader and better blur, in addition to more and more custom roms being built, this phone is coming closer to its potential. I wish it had a metal back plate, but I understand the potential of worse reception and getting hotter than the plastic cover. All in all, the only phone I would remotely consider exchanging my Atrix for would be the Sensation, and even then I think I'd really have to be sold on the idea. I hope this helps with your decision.
Cm7 is a must on the atrix. I've tried other roms but none ever worked quite right. Annoying fc & other errors - but thanks to those devs for putting in the time & effort. Blur is complete crap: I couldn't even listen to my mp3s without the music stuttering bcuz the phone was busy searching for "suggestions" of similar songs I may like. Damn you, for the unwanted marketing on my device, at&t & Motorola. For a while, I very much regretted trading in my iPhone. But now all is well. Thank you cm7 devs!
So I just got my Atrix
It has 1.2.6 as a build on it, and from reading I'm not finding too much information on that build. I don't think that I want to do the OTA to 4.1.57 though because I keep reading about bricks. I'm going to put a ROM on it, more than likely CM7 so Im not sure what good it would do to update OTA. I'll have to root it though so I guess I can get on that first but all of the root guides are for 1.8.x and up.
Can anyone convince me to keep this phone? I had an og droid and remember really liking it.
Ended up on an Evo 4g. I got used to sense and a few great roms.
This phone might take a few days to get used to but ao far i really kinda hate it.
The text ia so small to read even now.
Im sure the baattery life is great but ita a big change.
Just looking for a little settle advice.
Really choppy browsing and screen lag too. Not any better than the evo.
In case you tell me to go back i just might.
I played with the evo lte and a pleasure to use but too early to release and has bugs.
Ive had lota of help here at xda and not looking to bash its really a different experience is all.
Also thus phone wont get ics i u.derstand?
Not fweling good so far. Damn keyboard.
I literally just swapped from sprints evo 4g to this device 2 days ago... U say its laggy? Hmm... I noticed it to be waay smoother, and the batt life... well, there is no comparison.
I would download go launcher from the google play store... I didnt even bother with the stock launcher, as I used go launcher on the evo anyway, so It kinda made the switch seamless...
Idk where your from, but if not in a metro area, I'm sure you will notice the huge difference in the vzw network... I get signal every where no, and full 3g at that... I used to have major issues with switching from sprint 3g to roam 1x... Not an issue anymore... If u do live in a metro area... u may not notice any difference in speed or coverage... Sprint is pretty good in the metro areas...
Other than that... all I can say is.. aside from the battery life... this phone is only just a lil better than the evo... I still have my evo, and we now use it exclusively to stream netflix etc... to my tv's... Great phone, but not so great network...
I came from the same situation... Sprint CS made my fiancée cry, so I flipped them the bird. I started my Android career with the OG EVO, and I loved that damn phone... Upgraded to the Photon, and at first I was completely frustrated. Nothing worked right, and everything was different. After a day of being frustrated, I realized I was spending too much time trying to learn the phone, instead of making the phone learn ME! ( http://wp.me/p1KuEp-1Q wrote a lil ditty on my Blog about it...)
IMO, The RAZR is the best phone currently available. Make it learn you, and life will be MUCH easier. It's only fault is that it's on Big Red... I love this phone, but I miss Sprint's network, not their CS. I might jump ship for the EVO LTE if I didn't leave without paying my bill... Lol.
SwiftKey will love you if you let it, as will Launcher Pro... OH, and we're getting ICS tomorrow if you believe the rumors (by the end of the month at the latest)!
\\Carved into this thread with my RAZR//

Sprint is an absolute non-starter if you ever get much off the beaten path. There's just no signal in the sticks at all. I do some long distance bicycle riding and I have loaned my phone to my buddies quite a few times. There's been times they had no signal whatsoever and I had 5 bars, go figure.

I am really starting to dislike this phone more and.more.
This screen is not as good as the og evo and barely better than my og Droid. I see nothing but pixles. If I turn it 10 degrees in any direction everything turns blue.
I think I made a mistake. My wife is going to hate this phone. Bummed.
it just works.
Dont mean to sound like an Iphone user but it does. came from the Evo to the iphone 4s then to the razr maxx. Service is awesome in my area. data speeds even when not on 4g are more than usable. the battery lasts me all day. I dont worry about my phone. use it all day and when i'm ready to go to bed there is plenty of juice left. Motorola is currently having a contests asking people to say the reasons they love this phone. take our ideas and win the $2500 or read what they are writing. the screen is not hd but and some people dont like the super amoled screens because of the "cartoonish" look but it doesnt bother me or actually look cartoonish. I generally look directly at my phone and not off axis but even just trying for sh!ts and giggles it doesnt lose visibility too soon for me.
like others have said. install your launcher of choice get your core apps that you used on your evo minus the battery saving stuff and you can have a very similar experience to what you had on your evo plus much battery life. but my experience is with the maxx. the iphone 4s did have a better screen in my opinion but the dang thing was tiny. when i went from the evo the 4s it was awful to look at the evo screen. to the razr from the iphone not so much. turn up the brightness and turn off the power saving features and the screen shines.
Hello folks, I am no stranger to HTC land but am currently using an Epic 4g touch. After the terrible amount of lag I experienced on my Evo 3D I swore to never go back to HTC again because of sense. I am an exteme speed demon, lag in the UI and basic phone functions make me go crazy, I just can't take it.
I have played with a few floor models and they seem nice. I must ask, after using the phone for a period of time and using custom roms, what's the verdict on this phone? Should I get this instead of the Galaxy S 3? Please note, lag is my biggest concern.
I think most people agree sense is better than touchwiz. So far this phone is great being stock, but if you flash custom roms the phone is even better and thats the key in any phone so far.. Custom roms fix the issues carriers put in there. I say get the phone, build quality is amazing
Why dont you make up your own mind and stop posting things like this on a device specific forum. Questions like "is device A, better than device B" usually end up in piss matches.
Sent from my EVO using XDA
I'm not so much trying to start a pissing match, rather I'm asking you folks if after a month or so of usage if you have noticed lag or slowdowns. As touchwiz is much less RAM consuming than Sense is, I wanted to know as a speed purist if Sense bogs down this phone like it has in my previous HTC experience.

Have you flashed any ICS roms on your 3d? If you have you will quickly notice
how much more efficient sense runs on ICS. Now imagine running sense on a much better chip. Hope that answers your question. Case close.
hes right.. sense runs better on ICS for some reason, get the phone
I don't mean to sound harsh, but normally (because tons of people have been incredibly happy with their phones) I would say yes, get the phone, you won't be sorry. However, reading your OP, I get the feeling that if you do get the phone, a week later we'll all be seeing yet another "OMG, sense sux! HTC broke multitasking!!!! This phone lags soooooo much!!!!1!" thread. So my advice to you would be no. You will not be satisfied with this phone.
Go with the GS3 -it has 2GB of ram you know...
I've had mine now for a little under 24 hours, rooted within 1 hour of owning, and have flashed 3 roms so far. I can say I love it, best phone I ever owned, came from EVO og. My wife has the iPhone4s, and though she says she loves her phone she did say she was now jealous of my EVO LTE. I think you should at least get it, run through the paces in the two weeks you have to decide. Then go from there.
