Ugh, frustrating. Sorry if there is a post on this, I did search but couldn't find anything.
Ok, so was looking to flash the CM10, feeling relatively comfortable with rooting and flashing roms on my Evo 3d GSM I figured I'd do the same with my TF201. I'm running Build 9.4.2.28-20120525 so I downloaded the Asus Unlocker. Ran it. Everything appeared fine. Then went to instal ROM Manager. I got a message saying that SU Access had been denied. Ok. Looked at my SuperUser app, everything looked fine, I set permissons to automatically allow rather than ask. Attempted to flash ClockworkMod Recovery through ROM Manager and had ROM Manager freeze. Had to force close it.
So I worried that something was up with either the unlock process (It said everything unlocked properly, even restarted the system first before doing any of this stuff) or the SU. So I uninstalled the SuperUser App and installed the SuperSU app to see if that made any difference. When I start up SuperSU I get a message that says "The SU binary needs to be updated. Continue?" I said yes and all I get is "Installation Failed!"
I'm really worried I've screwed my system right over. I am not sure what to do next.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Oh I forgot to mention that attempting to boot into recovery gets me the sad little dead android with the ! coming out of his chest... Ominous!
I believe the ASUS unlocking tool only unlocks the bootloader. It doesn't install root or a custom recovery. When I unlocked my Prime, I installed a custom recovery through fastboot, then installed a custom ROM through that recovery. There are various threads that explains the procedures to install custom recoveries and ROMs, and if you need further assistance, I'm sure many here will be glad to help.

Yeah looks like we're good now. Had to reinstall SU but it worked out fine int he end. Flashing CM10 now.
Wouldn't recommend Rom Manager for the prime, people have experience problems, use TWRP (i think thats right) from GooManager instead.

Its just from what i've heard - if it works ok for you then you might be fine with it - might be worth reading up on it.
I had problems with it then read up about other people having same issues to moved to the TWRP and have had no issues since.

Yeah, thanks for that. Seeing as the JB roms are still very much in development, it's likely best if I update the recovery manager to whatever is the most up to date so as to (hopefully) minimize any risk.
Man, things have come a long way from when I rooted my SE Xperia X10 on Eclaire!
Thanks for the advice guys.

Trwp is a great recovery. never had any issues using it. makes flashing roms easy n seamless. I use it on my prime & nexus 7. plus the ability to compress the nandroids to save space is great. also allows batch flashing which it'll flash the zips in the order you choose.

what version of cwm?
One second...... might of jumped the gun here
i'm using 5.0.2.0 installed from Rom Manager. I've never heard of deleteing that file, unless you use Rom Racer.

I am using rom manager and i dont even get the option of backing up roms...nor the ability to turn off protection on packages ect..
i just tried deleting the install-recovery.sh (rather i renamed it, so i could get it back. And still no cwm after restart? Any other ideas? Did i do something wrong there?
ok...so nothing that you guys suggested works...I have no idea how to get CWM to work fully....now i am stuck with the lame motoblur...yay..
Are you guys 1000% sure you're rooted?
1000%, i have super user app, and i run titanium backup. Everything gets granted root just fine that ask for it.
---------- Post added at 12:39 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:36 AM ----------
strange thing happened. I deleted Rom Manager application. I redownloaded it. It already detected that i was on latest clockwork recovery 5.0.2.0, but i went ahead and flashed it anyways. I then restarted with volume down. I picked "Android Recovery" and it worked just fine. Booted right into cwm!!!! every subsequent time - it doesn't boot into CWM (it boots into what must be motorola's recovery menu).
Wow! That's so odd! I'm glad you found a way to work it at least once though, even if you have to reinstall Rom Manager every time to work it, hopefully this thread is still on page 1 when the experts wake up!
But that is going to suck if i have to reinstall it everytime to use it. i feel like if I can't get into from startup it would be too risky to put any rom on my phone. If i got into a boot loop or something, it seems like i would be so screwed.
After that file has been removed, reflash CWM and it should work. At least that's what got me going.
That did it. Delete the file then reflashed. Awesome. Thanks Guys!
I'm just a noob, mobileweasel helped the most (too bad i'm limited to 5 thanks a day, it's 1:18am here and i've used them up already )

Well guys the most i can say on this one is, I had somewhat the same problem my first time around. Except mine said, failed to boot 2 starting rsd mode.
the problem that i was having was that i hadn't unlocked my bootloader, which i found that if you want the most recent rom builds, you need to have an unlocked bootloader. there is a sticky for it in the android development section. still should be first thread. says Pudding.
take a look at that. as i thought i had everything ready to go when i got my atrix. i was wrong but a couple of the atrix guru's got me set straight and working with recovery and roms within ten minutes.
any questions, go ahead and PM me and i will give you what help i can. the atrix was the first device to elude me especially since now instead of tefnars recovery we actually have a full working cwm.

So for that, I thanked you ! That's what we are all here for anyway. I just happened to be a couple days ahead of you.
Hello all,
I had the CWM installed, and my phone died when I was asleep, down to 0%.
Now, it won't charge. I got a half charged battery in today, so I'll be able to do some things.
The phone is S-off.
Anyways, I would like to know how I would be able to:
-Remove CWM
-Recovery EVERYTHING to factory default
Also, I'm kind of a noob, so when it comes to telling me to let's say "flash amonra", please tell me how, or link to thread or something. If you can.
All help is appreciated...If I don't get this fixed I won't have a phone for a couple years.
Also, a tip: HTC Keeps track of those who unlock the bootloader on their phone, and tell Verizon. Which is how they find out even if you reflash, relock, etc.
First thing to do is get rid of that recovery! Soo many issues and you can use either the TWRP 2.1.1 recovery or AmonRA 3.15 (located in the dev threads). CWM causes phone charging issues (as you are aware) and I recommend not using it.
Are you familiar with flashing a recovery in fastboot? Were you running GB or ICS firmware?
I suggest you familiarize yourself with all the root lingo contained in this thread.

I believe you would use the command "fastboot flash recovery [file].img".
I wasn't running the IceCreamSandwich update, pretty sure of that. So it must be the GB. I would like to know how to remove the CWM.

Yes that command is correct you just have to make sure the recovery file is in same folder as your fastboot.exe.

CWM was great on my Incredible...but I've had the same problem you did with charging issues, not to mention backups that would freeze in mid stream.
Flashing a RUU was the only way I could find to fix it.

Da_G Has an odin root available in the DEV section for the stock GB. As far as I know there are only 2 types of recovery for the Note Braway's CWM and the TWRP 2.1.2 ( I use CWM.) As far as the UCL*** those are all ICS leak builds. UCLE2 being the most recent. Personally I have pretty much stuck with Team Perfections builds but depending on what you want another ROM may suite your needs. If you install one of the new roms they keep root access and install either SU or superuser and are all flashable via CWM, however I assume you need to be rooted prior to installing which is where Da_G root comes in.

So I guess 4ext doesnt work on the note? Also, its easy to brick this device?
I didn't see any flash able zips for it in the dev section so I don't think its supported. Rom manager for the most part is unsupported also except for fixing permissions after flashing new stuff. This is my first experience with android (iPhone convert haha) I haven't had any bad experiences flashing yet but general rule of thumb is read and re read instructions for specific roms and make sure its specifically for the i717 not n7000 or anything else because that will hard brick. Also use only approved ics kernel because of the super brick bug out there

Nope, you can just flash cwm with Odin and then flash a ROM without rooting first. The ROM is rooted.
The only reason to root first is if you want to run titanium backup to nip any apps you may have installed prior to deciding to ROM.
Also that "super brick bug" is only on exynos processor equipped phones, I717 has a Qualcomm. So if you stick to just kernels MADE FOR THIS DEVICE then you can't ever encounter it.
Ah was never 100% clear on that cuz I rooted prior to running saurom rom. As for the kernel thing that's what I meant about not using the n7000 stuff prolly should of been more specific didn't want ya to make a mistake on that.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
Yup.
And now that you've made the glorious switch to Android, when you upgrade to the next beast that catches your eye, you can take the titanium backup folder from your note, drop it in the sdcard of your new phone, install cwm, flash a ROM, then restore your backed up apps.
Easy peasy
So I need to verify, I can completely install a rom that gets rid of touchwiz? Also would this same rom improve battery charging time?
If I could just flash cm7 on this baby I'd be fine with that.
Cm7 is not supported on this device
There are a couple aosp roms floating around, but they are still in early development, alpha stage.

Exactly. No need to root stock ROM if your going to flash a rooted ROM anyway. Make sure you do a backup of your stocker before doing anything else. The only reason to root your stock ROM would be to backup all your apps and data. If you don't do that, you have to start from scratch. What's the issue you're having with the superuser zip?

yeah, that's where i'm at. the tutorial/everything page has everything you could ever want if you were starting from zilch; but no "here's just the su binaries and app" zip that i can find. there's every variety of "one click" solution but it doesn't seem like anyone publicizes the step-by-step pieces.
i did dev-unlock and then flashed twrp via fastboot because i wanted a nandroid backup of my "virgin" setup. now if i could just push su to it i would have my setup/ROM with root and not have to wipe my phone and start with somebody else's. not that i'm knocking those efforts because at some point i'm going to start flashing ROMs on this thing, but i'm not ready to blow away all my data just to get root. of course there's always the remote possibility that i could flash the stock 2.13 rooted rom and restore my own data partition and it would work without being flaky, but i never had success doing that on my transform.
i guess i could always download one of the one-clicks and tear it apart and see if i can't figure something out on my own, but i have no experience doing that whatsoever

not yet. my wife was getting made at me for not being fully engaged in her prattling so i had to shut the laptop for the night.
i was looking at the update script and it does some goofy stuff with the maps.apk and youtube.apk that seems to (at least from other comments in the thread) cause some unwanted aggravation with those apps. i asked the question what/why and the answer i got was an assumption that they were being moved temporarily to make sure there was room in /system for the su binaries and then moved back.
i don't know if that's necessary or not, but i kind of doubt it. just like to know what's happening in the background and not monkey with things that don't need monkeyin'.
i've got a working zip for SuperSU v0.96 that i've stripped the stuff out of it that moves around the maps and youtube apks, doesn't seem to be necessary on our devices. sent a pm to chainfire about posting it but haven't heard back yet. or maybe i just can't send pms

It might also help to post what ROM you were running, along with what two kernels you flashed. Certain kernels only work with certain ROM's (AOSP kernels don't work on Sense ROM's, and vice-versa). I had no access to my TWRP Recovery, I actually fixed that though.
The Kernel is changed and now I have no Data access? I think my ROM is not compatible like suggested. (Sense ROM)

It might also help to post what ROM you were running, along with what two kernels you flashed. Certain kernels only work with certain ROM's (AOSP kernels don't work on Sense ROM's, and vice-versa). Take a look at the top link in my sig. At the bottom is a few helpful links. om4 has an excellent "Don't Panic" guide that contains some excellent info and really should be required reading for new users.

The current situations has changed sadly.
I have no custom ROM just Sense.
The Kernel: Bulletproof-EVO-v1.4.
ROM: Default Sense?
This is my first attempt at really rooting/adding kernels just messing around and doing damage.
Now instead of WiFi I have no Data Service with this Kernel and ROM combo. I will check out your links thank you very much.

Now my phone is stuck in bootloop I even tried to remove TWRP recovery to to StockRecovery...
Just let it die?
Or is there anyway to flash a Kernel via command prompt?
Anyway to fix this?

Hit the top link in my sig. I think you'll find what you're looking for there. Sounds like you may need to reflash your recovery from the bootloader via fastboot. Assuming that works, you need to due a full system wipe from recovery, then flash a ROM.

Do forgive me, I am reading your thread and advice.
I am just running on zero sleep in the past 4 days and trying to fix this all day.
The bootloop is gone now that I have flashed the TWRP recovery Stock recovery and Twrp again.
The stock recovery was still giving me the twrp startup screen (disclaimer at the HTC screen)
I also don't quite get what to do via Hboot 2.09 (what I have)
All the ROM's with the kernels are in a zip that needs to be opened via TWRP well the ones I download...
I have wiped the ceche/delvik etc... fear I wiped the whole thing by accident rendering the device empty.
My android's exe file doesn't seem to be about either.
Android version: 4.1.1
Software: 3.17.650? (The most recent for Evo commercially)
When I do attempt a Stock restore via fastboot flash not exe file I end up getting the red ! next to my phone and the phone doesn't reboot naturally.
Do I need to hunt down ROM's and Kernels that I can flash into the cmd?
I understand with my version I must flash in the using the prompt and have them separate but I am totally new at this I feel really dumb I'm sorry if I am bothering you with redundant questions I am attempting to follow and get the information but I think I am reading so many different threads on it I am suffering from information overload (artist not a programmer lol.)
EDIT:
NOTE:
I AM currently reading your bottom link about Fixing system wipe.

S-ON.
I am attempting to download MeanBean after reading Fin's Fix.
Though I don't know if FlashImage GUI will work.
I also have to figure out how to flash .apk files too...
Sorry about the bother... I really am far below Novice at this I should have had someone holding my hand step by step lol.
Okay, so the problem with the Kernel originally was it wasn't compatible?
Then the next one with the service error was I suppose the same thing?
Then when I tried to restore apparently I wiped my phone of all Data resulting in a bootloop and being no one has the exe file for the factory RUU of the latest version for the Evo 4g LTE I had no way of restoring any of the files?
So then I stalked Fin's suggestions eventually lead me to MeanBean. at least it got me up and running... I attempted to back up with TWRP.
Which apparently doesn't work (I have to learn how to backup else where... Lets add it to my list.)
But after I attempted the back up I also attempted the instillation of "Operation Jelly Bean" I love the ROM I love the theme I love the sleekness
Apparently I am missing something with my touch panel software. I wish I could have kept the ROM but couldn't sadly (If you know what I am doing wrong I would love to keep that ROM in the future)
So with another failed ROM I tried to restore... which there was no restore when I went to do so... I was a little frustrated from my constant bricking as is...
I attempted factory restore apparently also wiped everything (Internal sd, external, everything.) I don't know what is up with that do you have any clue if its a glitch or am I just wiping it?
I also do Stock restore that does absolutely nothing for my phone anymore...
I will flash it... and it does nothing... it still runs like TWRP (disclaimer etc) but won't go to the twrp boot screen... this is a bit frustrating.
