Hello.
Sorry if i might be a bit rude in this post but i'm writing this after 2 hours of messing with various tools and commands so i might one day successfully unpack the ROM and see what's inside of it.
Steps i made are:
Installed cygwin
Unpacked the stock sony ics live with walkman rom with universal extractor, and another attempt with 7zip
converted system.sin to system.img with SIN2IMG
and that's where it all stops.
i have xperia rom manager, and when i try to unpack the system.img to a folder, i get nothing but errors.
tried with flashtool to create yfft2 or whatever it's called, and open it with yaffey - didn't work.
As i'm pulling my hair out right now, i seek for additional information and guidance to finally unpack the stupid ROM.
Thank you.
Btw please, dont tell me to search for answers, because i did my research and i couldn't find a thing. If i somehow missed a thread where it is all explained, please, forgive me, and link it if it's not too hard.
[edit] almost forgot, i tried to extract with yaffsexpert with my phone, didnt work. and also sry for my lack of knowledge about this stuff, i'm trying to learn, but there's a bunch of stuff.....

I installed Flash Tool 0.25 and when I start it and go for flash option, it doesn't show any files even though I copied dualtouch folder under firmwares. ANy hint what can be wrong?

1. Read the instructions on that thread.
2. Post your question there. (However, in your case you can not post in development forum because you have less than 10 posts)
Trust me, the answer to your question is in the FIRST post if you read it CAREFULLY and follow the instructions!
Hint: The keyword in "bundle". Good Luck.
put files in \firmwares\my-firmware\
Also check your unzipped folder. Sometimes the files are two folders deep and you have to move them up.

I had this same problem and rather than listening to key word or hint at bundle. even though it is correct. click on the advanced tab (which apparently is too hard for other people to just say) and replace the kernel.sin file along with the loader.sin file in your 2.1 software. then flash as normal. voila. mt.

Maybe it is even harder for some people to read and follow simple and clear instructions? Or maybe it is easier for some people to start threads about topics/issues already discussed (and resolved) numerous times on this forum because they are too lazy to read through the posts? Don't you think?
ok so i want to try just for the fun of it, reinstalling 1.6 wwe_R1fb001 i have the rom downloaded, unzipped, but there two files and unzip those and .......ok now im lost using the 2.5 flasher what would i put where or do i need to use some older method?

You need to create software bundle. Go to advanced --> Bundle Creation. Once you create the bundle, then you can flash the firmware.
sorry to still be a dumb ass but from which unzipped rar file do i use sin files from both unzipped rar's
one file is phone the other is android.
once its been done its easy but till then the whole 2 folders option is throwing me off.

Two folders means you need to create a sub-folder inside the firmware folder. E.g. /firmware/my_firmware and in the sub-folder put all the SIN files associated with that firmware.
You need to unzip any firmware you download regardless of the flash tool. One rar is probably the flash tool and the other is the firmware. You need to extract all files.
ok plz dont get frustrated i know you know what your talking about and your like just read the directions... but some of these you guys have been doing so long you forgot some of us get lost right after words like zip and rar lol.
id have to build a bundle and here is my choices, first unzipped folder has this in it.
metadata.dat DAT file
simlock.ta TA file
system_s1-sw-live-ac12-0001-s1-partion-with-spare.sin
update XML doc
userdata_s1-sw-live-ac12-0001-s1-partion-with-spare.sin
other folder has
amss.sin
amss_fs.sin
several other sin files then
preset.ta TA FILE
recovery.sin
update xml document
so this is why im saying huh confused how do i build a bundle from 2 different folders also when i tried to use flash tool with placing sin files in firmware folder it didnt work. i didnt place them in a sub folder in the firmware if that could have been why it didnt work
btw i have 2.1 and multi touch installed on fone using flash tool and didnt brick fone lol again thx for help were not all as genious as you guys.
What fw do u want to flash? You will find a sticky thread in the development forum titled "Decrypted branded roms..." Just download the fw you want from there. Then use it with the flash tool.

Lol sorry. I see what you are saying from what you posted. You need to gather all the sin files in one folder and rename them. You can try downloading another firmware from that link to see what I mean.

I am in the process of building my own rom, but have a few questions for some devs that have built theirs.
1. When I use dsixdas kitchen, when it unpacks system.img with ext2explore, the program crashes after it finishes. I do not know if it is fully unpacking the img file as it is 800+mb and the system dir is only 600+mb (dont know exact numbers off top of my head). Does anyone else have this issue? Can I get a directory listing of all files from someone the program did not crash on?
2. Can the weather*.mp4 files be removed from system media? What about the image files in customize/resource? wtf is the sound in the mms folder of system/media? What about removing languages from tts?
Sorry for asking so many questions, just figured they needed to be asked. I will try figuring this all out for myself, but am going to backup my wimax keys first, dont want to lose those, though I guess TEP would fix it for me. Anyways, thanks for any help
I'm looking for a little bit of help with understanding something.
My ideal place to get to is to eventually provide the community here with custom roms and mods which everyone can enjoy on their devices, just like what all the greats devs do here day in day out.... but before I get there, I'm on a path of discovery. At the minute, I want to take a XDA dev's already pre worked ROM, go in to it and change a few things up.... edit the apps, maybe play with a few apks, change the ringtones etc, and then resign the ROM and flash it to my device.
I've been reading some great tutorials such as http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1801690 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1843506 which I am finding very helpful, however....
They seem to be geared towards someone working on a windows machine. I dont want to do it in Windows, I want to do it in Linux... I dont wish to use "CygWin" and I would rather do it manually than use a kitchen - I could easily follow these guides in Windows and achieve my stated aim of a slightly modified custom ROM, however, the overall goal here is to acquire knowledge, and enjoy the process as it goes along.
Now, my current understanding under Linux (Mint 13) is that I can download a recovery flashable Zip, go in to it, and just change up some of the files as I desire.... but then I get confused when it comes to repackaging the ROM prior to flashing it to my device. How would I go about doing this?
As a side note, when it seems that all development for these devices is done under Linux / Mac... why do all the newb guides steer you to Windows?
Are you asking how to rezip or how to recompile?
If you're asking about zipping up the folder, go here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1499885
If you're asking about recompiling, it should state how to do so on the page you got the apktool from.
Hi, thanks for your reply. I guess for now what I am asking is how to get the ROM back to a flashable zip file.
The I believe is that you need to have the ROM signed. The windows tutorials point you to a batch file script that does the signing and creates you an "update.zip" file. What id the alternative to this under linux?
Also, in the post you just provided a link to, someone says that you must also edit an update script to reflect the changes you made, such as any apks removed or added etc, where would I find this?
You need signapk.jar which I believe is included in the android sdk if not just Google and you can find it, once you have that you need a key to sign with, again Google for a testkey.
Then in your terminal you would run:
Code:
java -jar signapk.jar certificate.pem key.pk8 your-update.zip your-signed-update.zip

Excellent, thank you very much.. will play with this later
Hi guys im a noob to the forums and to rom customisation in general so im hoping someone can help me.
I have a generic MX dual core, and have been supplied a flash firmware and image from the supplier. This image is basic and does not contain all of the repos that i want, nor the apps that I require.
The image supplied is a zipfile and contains:
factory_update_param.aml
hd18d_mx4.zip
recovery.img
I am able to successfully restore my box with this image (so I know that the image is working fine).
Within the hd18d_mx4.zip there is:
Directotories: data, META-INF, recovery, system
files: boot.img, bootloaded.img, logo.img
I can see the all the system APK files within the system/app folder. The problem is when i try to add another APK file into this directory within the archive (in this case videomix.apk), I am not able to restore the image to the MX device.
Can anyone help me with a noobies guide to do this. I have read that the apk file has to be signed, and the zip file has to be signed also?? But im not quite sure what this means, nor how I go about doing it.
Any help or tutorials will be much appreciate. I have downloaded the APK-multi-tool but dont have a clue what I need to do
Look forward to your replies.
P.S. Im using a windows 64 bit machine and not Linux (if that makes any difference).
I'm facing the same thing, did you end up having luck with this?
If not is there anyone that can assist?
Hello I am kinda of new to rooting and I am following this tutorial, from my understanding I need the Factory image of SM-A526B/DS, I am having issues finding that file can someone point me in the right direction?
Correct me if I am wrong but, if I cant find this file does it mean It would be convinient to change my OS and then download the img file? I don't know If I am making sense, I apologize im kind of new to this.

In the same Forum where you opened this thread there is someone saying that could be unlock and root the same device as yours https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/unlock-bootloader-magisk.4272797/post-85041029 a little research could bring you there.
For the firmware just adding to SM-A526B/DS, the word "firmware" you will find a lot of entries, also you can use some tool like Frija https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/tool-frija-samsung-firmware-downloader-checker.3910594/
which rom ur phone running can u take a screenshot about phone section ?
