Hi guys im a noob to the forums and to rom customisation in general so im hoping someone can help me.
I have a generic MX dual core, and have been supplied a flash firmware and image from the supplier. This image is basic and does not contain all of the repos that i want, nor the apps that I require.
The image supplied is a zipfile and contains:
factory_update_param.aml
hd18d_mx4.zip
recovery.img
I am able to successfully restore my box with this image (so I know that the image is working fine).
Within the hd18d_mx4.zip there is:
Directotories: data, META-INF, recovery, system
files: boot.img, bootloaded.img, logo.img
I can see the all the system APK files within the system/app folder. The problem is when i try to add another APK file into this directory within the archive (in this case videomix.apk), I am not able to restore the image to the MX device.
Can anyone help me with a noobies guide to do this. I have read that the apk file has to be signed, and the zip file has to be signed also?? But im not quite sure what this means, nor how I go about doing it.
Any help or tutorials will be much appreciate. I have downloaded the APK-multi-tool but dont have a clue what I need to do
Look forward to your replies.
P.S. Im using a windows 64 bit machine and not Linux (if that makes any difference).
I'm facing the same thing, did you end up having luck with this?
If not is there anyone that can assist?

I am in the process of building my own rom, but have a few questions for some devs that have built theirs.
1. When I use dsixdas kitchen, when it unpacks system.img with ext2explore, the program crashes after it finishes. I do not know if it is fully unpacking the img file as it is 800+mb and the system dir is only 600+mb (dont know exact numbers off top of my head). Does anyone else have this issue? Can I get a directory listing of all files from someone the program did not crash on?
2. Can the weather*.mp4 files be removed from system media? What about the image files in customize/resource? wtf is the sound in the mms folder of system/media? What about removing languages from tts?
Sorry for asking so many questions, just figured they needed to be asked. I will try figuring this all out for myself, but am going to backup my wimax keys first, dont want to lose those, though I guess TEP would fix it for me. Anyways, thanks for any help
Hello,
I'm trying to install Bell's gingerbread update for my Atrix but it appears I'm missing the / preinstall / app / "Gameloft_3games.zip" file. I have the bell system dump downloaded that contains all the apps and other random stuff but I cant seem to find the gameloft_3games.zip file. Can someone help me out here?? Maybe share their file with me or maybe tell me what the zip contains so I can try and build a new one?
Thanks in advance.

I have the same issue, I've tried OTA and offline install, also tried modding the update zip to remove the gameloft_3games.zip, but the file is signed and the verify fails...
apk files
I tried creating a zip file and inside of it, I put the apks of the 3 demo gameloft games that came stock with the phone. It didn't work, So I tried making another zip and I dumped every single file in it from the / app folder renaming it to gameloft_3games.zip and that never worked either. So theirs obviously some other kind of files in there that we need...
exact same problem someone please help!
edit: you guys found a solution yet? i've been told on other forums that i think it is the rooting method we used that removed that gameloft file.. i think apparently ATT phones don't need that file or something..so i'm trying to figure out how to get that file back now..
If you do some searching for gameloft_3dgames.zip you'll find a zip of the stock 2.2.2 files available for download. I was able to push the gameloft_3dgames.zip to /data/local/tmp/, remount /preinstall/ read/write, copy it in there, set permissions to 644, remount read-only, reboot, and then apply the update successfully.
Good luck!

Hello.
Sorry if i might be a bit rude in this post but i'm writing this after 2 hours of messing with various tools and commands so i might one day successfully unpack the ROM and see what's inside of it.
Steps i made are:
Installed cygwin
Unpacked the stock sony ics live with walkman rom with universal extractor, and another attempt with 7zip
converted system.sin to system.img with SIN2IMG
and that's where it all stops.
i have xperia rom manager, and when i try to unpack the system.img to a folder, i get nothing but errors.
tried with flashtool to create yfft2 or whatever it's called, and open it with yaffey - didn't work.
As i'm pulling my hair out right now, i seek for additional information and guidance to finally unpack the stupid ROM.
Thank you.
Btw please, dont tell me to search for answers, because i did my research and i couldn't find a thing. If i somehow missed a thread where it is all explained, please, forgive me, and link it if it's not too hard.
[edit] almost forgot, i tried to extract with yaffsexpert with my phone, didnt work. and also sry for my lack of knowledge about this stuff, i'm trying to learn, but there's a bunch of stuff.....
I have googled this for days, and I cannot seem to find a solution.
I want to find a tutorial to create a flashable zip (for both CWM and TWRP), and I am looking for something that will describe the components, the Edify script, and anything else. I am somewhat familiar with this, but can't seem to create my own.
NOTE: I do not want to use a template, or any other "starting zip". If I want to add files or components to system (fonts, boot animation, or some other mod), I want to learn how to do it from scratch: as if all I have is 7-zip, a suitable text editor, and that is it.
I have modified zip files before by extracting/editing a document, and then re-zipping, but I never have just extracted the whole file and then re-zipped it and had it work successfully.
If I have to use a device specific binary, then I need to know where to find this.
I have been working/flashing zip files for 4 years and am frustrated that I always have to use some "automated tool" or someone's zip template to start with.
I appreciate any help in advance!

Evening Everyone,
I am attempting to roll my own android version from this base and following instructions from this guide. I did the instructions from the base and installed the stock version just fine. I run linux at home and I didn't need to unpack the system.img.ext4 file, just mounted it and was able to edit. There wasn't a system/apps folder in the image, but there was app/ and it looked like that was where the core apks were stored.
I removed samsung junk, unmounted the image, zipped it back up with all the other files that came with the original zip from the link. When I go to install (TWRP) I get the error:: could not find 'meta-inf/com/google/android/update-binary' in the zip file :: but when I open the zip file it is definitely there. Is there a config file I need to edit also?
Trying to remove the bloatware on my own and will add my own prefered apps once I can get this down. I haven't decided if I want to also remove the google apps and only install a very light weight version. Eventually I might try rom editing, but not sure how deep I want to go down the rabbit hole. Trying to install Marshmallow on sprint galaxy s5. TWRP version is 3.0.2-1
Any help to get me started is greatly appreciated!!

Nevermind. I am an idiot and the whole structure was one layer too deep. Zip->folder->files instead of Zip->files.
