I was looking at a gs3 and my EVO side by side. I know that both have the same processor.
What I wanted to know is why does Sammy seem to be able to make the interface so smooth? Don't get me wrong, this phone is HTC's smoothest yet, but the frame rate is still not as consistent as the galaxy. They both have similar insides and are built upon the same os, so what does Sammy do to achieve this?

Your asking the evo 4G lte forums why the s3 is so smooth?
Honestly, it's probably sense, but touchwiz looks like crayola designed it

I think HTC is a poor software company. Grand ambitions but they never execute really. And, I don't get it really. I bet they literally lose sales due to the stutters in the sense launcher.
I really loved sense. It's aesthetically pleasing, efficient, and has some of the best widgets I've used. But the stutter when switching home screens was too much. I mean, devs can lock down the framerate and eliminate lag but HTC doesn't think to do that? Blows my mind.
Again, its the sense launcher. Rather than root, I installed novalauncher. Smooth as butter. Significantly smoother than sense. And, the launcher is installed on top of sense. Shows you how great the hardware is and how poorly optimized sense is.
Maybe we'll get an OTA that'll address these issues. I hope so. I did read somewhere ages ago that HTC only had 4 months to design sense 4.0 so that may be the source of the problem. Maybe they've got something up their sleeve when they roll out jellybean.
Try a launcher like apex or nova prime if you want a smoother experience.
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app
the current launcher is actually not that bad, as i am using the enhanced stock rom. its just always stymied me why the frame difference, and I agree that it seems that Samsung has slightly better programmers.
But honestly Sense definitely has more utility than touchwiz

Yes, I get choppy lag while scrolling through the XDA app, or also on the market. It is annoying.
Figure out which app is causing it and close it. Pulse Is usually what causes mine to do that.

Just did it, I forgot about the piss yellow and doo doo brown theme lol, but yea the choppy scrolling is gone. I always thought its because of the huge animated banners.
It's funny i was about to ask about this..I've gotten slow.lag scrolling sometimes and other times not..im rooted and oc'd to 1.8 using setcpu (until I can figure out the daemon) ..I noticed whenever I lagged setcpu had my CPU running like 300mhz..even when set to performance. All I want is for my CPU to go to the speed i select when the screen is on and back down when its off ..but instead it seems to bounce around too much..I noticed when I turn up both freqs up to 1.8 my browser is butter smooth..I get about 8000 in cf bench.. I wish I can get it to stay like that without having to keep it running so high while sleeping

Hmm...i didnt expect this from google.
Thats nowaday a crappy way of desinging a OS.
They need to make more improvements.

Have you seen Windows Phone 7? It's sooooooo smooth its not even funny. I mean, it makes me smile every time I'm typing a text message and I switch it to landscape mode. In fact I switch between them because it just makes me smile.
On Android on the other hand.... its just plain bad and choppy even on a dual core device.
The accelerometer has always been one thing that I absolutely hate about Android. Its way too slow. On Windows Phone 7 its INSTANT. On Android its a wait of between 2-5 seconds. Very annoying. And when it finally changes orientation, the transition is crap. It doesn't even exist! (Although Motorola has added one in its Gingerbread builds)

picky are we? lol
here is the thing brother..... you gotta keep this in mind, when these devices are designed/programmed(but this has mostly to do with the programming aspect) the developers try to find a healthy balance between performance and battery efficiency. every now and then you may see it sputter ever so slightly, but it is intentionally designed that way. your other option is to have your GPU in overdrive every time you even breathe on your screen and suck your battery every time you send a text.
don't be so picky. you have a 400mHz GPU with multi-point rendering capability.... it's not the hardware brother....
Sense 4.0 lags sometimes, it sucks but I don't think we can totally eliminate it. I notice it on different occasions, usually when I wake the phone up or open the app drawer.

you are basing "better" on blips in the user interface? lol come on maannn
and for the record... every nexus i have picked up was laggy as balls.... maybe that has something to do with the fact that it has the same GPU in it as the OG nexus
just sayin
i mean if it is TERRIBLY BAD then i would say it is the rom you are on, some misc tweak, maybe your 2d forced rendering isn't checked under the settings, who knows.... but i have had mine for a week now and have maybe seen it sputter like once. and i use it pretty heavily.
The EVO is better for some coming off different phones with completely different hardware. The evo 4g vs LTE is a no brainer. LTE wins. The nexus on the otherhand has similar specs as the EVO. (Dual core, ics, screen resolution?) Anyways you get the point. Get a phone based on personal preference. Not because its "the next big thing" the nexus is a great phone for some. Definetly not for me. Hence the reason why I got the LTE rather than the ole so stunning S3 or nexus..
hardware is beyond than extraordinary. Root the beast and unleash its full potential (when the proper Roms are fully functional). Or wait out official HTC updates.. my 2 cents

I’ve actually noticed this as well and I agree that it’s a little annoying. When scrolling in pretty much any app, my finger will move about 0.2” before the screen reacts. Once it realizes that my finger is on there, there is no problem tracking.
I downloaded Touch Test from the market and confirmed that this is not a hardware issue. In that app, the moment my finger touches the display, it begins tracking. The lock ring also moves immediately on the lock screen, so it must be something in certain apps.
I have noticed lag in the browser when scrolling when I have flash enabled. I noticed on my Galaxy S2 that when I would scroll down a web page with flash content, any flash content that is active continues to to be active while scrolling and it was VERY smooth. On the EVO LTE however, anything active flash content will become inactive. The lag I have experienced seems to be when the Evo takes a split second to "pause" any active flash before it begins scrolling. The more flash on a page, the more lag I experience. I've simply turned off my flash player. It's annoying to have to do that, but I have come to terms with it.

I ran Cyanogen on my OG Evo... but I have really come to appreciate much of what sense has to offer.
I think that between Car Mode, Camera App and Dialer (all of which I use every day) I could not stray away from sense for very long. I know that there are 3rd party apps that emulate what sense can do but they really aren't up to the level that sense is.
I would definitely flash it to check it out but I'm pretty sure I would return to sense in short order. I hope that the official HTC Jellybean / Sense combination will be as awesome as I think it can be.

I think it may be a little more complex because of the new blink interface. It may require a phone with burly specs. Me personally I don't feel like the LTE's GPU is equipped to even handle jelly bean let alone sense 5 but we shall see. No doubt someone will port it eventually but how smooth it runs and how much of it works remains to be seen.

I've been using my HOX+ for a little over 4 months now and I can already tell it's going to go down as my favorite Android phone to date (with the exception of the Nexus One, it still holds a special place in my heart). With that said though, while I find HTC's customization of stock Android very useful in some areas, I'm now seeing the effects it has on the overall performance of the phone. I got my dad an Xperia TL and was using it for a week or so to get it ready for him and even though the HOX+ smacks the heck out of it with it's CPU numbers, the fact of the matter is that the Xperia is much, much [much] snappier since customization of the OS is very limited. You can quickly and easily see the difference by just typing with the keyboard, the HOX+ has that delay/lag to it when typing quickly or using the backspace, however, there is none with the Xperia TL...very similar to my Nexus 7. Swiping aside, my typing accuracy is far better on the Xperia TL and my Nexus 7 than with the HOX+.
It's really unfortunate that we don't have any AOSP ROMS (CM, AOKP, etc) for the AT&T varient because this phone would be fast as heck.
Elegancia has "de-sensed" options if you want a ROM without HTC's sense.
I think the sense interface is the element that most distinguishes HTC from all other manufacturers ....
Unfortunately its beauty is comparable to its heaviness

My international HOX+ is fully stock, and its buttery smooth, sgs3 has no match to the smoothness on sense 4+, locked 60 fps.
Tips:
Go into developer options and set all the animations to .5x
tick force gpu rendering.
go to check if 7 digital is running in apps>running, and disable it if it's there.
Disable HTC gestures in display, gestures and buttons
Use the power saver and only tick the conserve cpu usage to underclock cpu to 1.3ghz, it doesn't slow down the device (if you're not rooted)
For the keyboard, try using the trace keyboard option in the sense keyboard

It really is. Sense is just beautiful. People complain about how much better TouchWiz is, but Sense is easier to navigate...
It just seems to me that HTC just needs to get rid of some (maybe most) of the proprietary apps when google can supply the same services in a more lightweight manner. Particularly for the AT&T version. You really can't use that version without rooting it and getting rid of the AT&T apps because despite the quad-core processor they REALLY slow it down (not to mention that they drain the battery even if you're not doing much of anything).
It's great after that though. I'm just looking forward to REAL AOSP on my AT&T X+....if hope isn't lost.
Anyone have more TIPS for daily Sense optimization!?!?!?:silly:
