I've been using my HOX+ for a little over 4 months now and I can already tell it's going to go down as my favorite Android phone to date (with the exception of the Nexus One, it still holds a special place in my heart). With that said though, while I find HTC's customization of stock Android very useful in some areas, I'm now seeing the effects it has on the overall performance of the phone. I got my dad an Xperia TL and was using it for a week or so to get it ready for him and even though the HOX+ smacks the heck out of it with it's CPU numbers, the fact of the matter is that the Xperia is much, much [much] snappier since customization of the OS is very limited. You can quickly and easily see the difference by just typing with the keyboard, the HOX+ has that delay/lag to it when typing quickly or using the backspace, however, there is none with the Xperia TL...very similar to my Nexus 7. Swiping aside, my typing accuracy is far better on the Xperia TL and my Nexus 7 than with the HOX+.
It's really unfortunate that we don't have any AOSP ROMS (CM, AOKP, etc) for the AT&T varient because this phone would be fast as heck.
Elegancia has "de-sensed" options if you want a ROM without HTC's sense.
I think the sense interface is the element that most distinguishes HTC from all other manufacturers ....
Unfortunately its beauty is comparable to its heaviness
Maybe the question is how to optimize the sense ....

So HTC should focus on optimizing sense... even the "feature overloaded" Touchwiz (compared galaxy S3 of a friend with my x+) is snappier/faster on similar Hardware.
Sense 5 should better optimized.

No regrets whatsoever, like I said, still love the phone and my favorite Android to date (#6 now). Just ticked at how Sense or any customization kills the phone's performance potential. I'll give Elegancia once they update it with the latest AT&T update...can't do it now.

My international HOX+ is fully stock, and its buttery smooth, sgs3 has no match to the smoothness on sense 4+, locked 60 fps.
Tips:
Go into developer options and set all the animations to .5x
tick force gpu rendering.
go to check if 7 digital is running in apps>running, and disable it if it's there.
Disable HTC gestures in display, gestures and buttons
Use the power saver and only tick the conserve cpu usage to underclock cpu to 1.3ghz, it doesn't slow down the device (if you're not rooted)
For the keyboard, try using the trace keyboard option in the sense keyboard

It really is. Sense is just beautiful. People complain about how much better TouchWiz is, but Sense is easier to navigate...
It just seems to me that HTC just needs to get rid of some (maybe most) of the proprietary apps when google can supply the same services in a more lightweight manner. Particularly for the AT&T version. You really can't use that version without rooting it and getting rid of the AT&T apps because despite the quad-core processor they REALLY slow it down (not to mention that they drain the battery even if you're not doing much of anything).
It's great after that though. I'm just looking forward to REAL AOSP on my AT&T X+....if hope isn't lost.
Anyone have more TIPS for daily Sense optimization!?!?!?:silly:

Just tried a One at Best Buy. Sense 5 doesn't seem any better to me in terms of performance. It seems pretty similar to what we have now. Sense has become way too bloated for me. I am going to the galaxy s3 actually, because I can at least root it and install an AOSP rom with ease, opposed to the Att One X+.

galaxy s3 with TouchWiz is WAY more laggy and unsnappier then sense on HOX/HOX+ ...i don't know why but the normal hox is really optimized from HTC and it's running on stock locked 60 fps...also th keyboard...a friend of me has also the hox+ and his is also running really good

I didn't not know about that. Doesn't it just effect the device for warranty purposes. It just voids warranty after a certain amount of flashes?
Edit: just looked into it, I won't be taking it in for warranty most likely and there is an app called triangle away to reset boot counter if so.

But only if I could S-Off my device
Yea I would like this One X+ a lot more of we had s-off or HTC didn't lock it down so much. The One doesnt have these issues. HTC had to face the brink of corporate failure before they provided a device like the One. I feel a little duped by HTC.

Im on Sprint and im trying to decide what phone to get im debating wether to choose the HTC EVO 3D, Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4g Touch, or the Nexus Prime (which is likely to come to sprint at some point). What phone do you guys think would be good for a person that likes a lot of custom roms and high preformance phones with a fast CPU, and GPU.
I have an Evo 3d and i have nothing but touch screen problems. I always have to cycle the screen on and off or pull the status bar down to get it to recognize any input. If i was you I would stay away from HTC devices, at least the EVO ones.

Well im currently using a HTC Hero which is still fully functioning with gingerbread, but im leaning towards choosing the Evo 3d because of the dev support here on XDA for it, its incredible how many roms are already available for it.

Nexus Prime. Wait a few more days for the official announcement. You won't even have to think about it.
i think the nexus series is the easiest to root and flash custom roms
I was looking at a gs3 and my EVO side by side. I know that both have the same processor.
What I wanted to know is why does Sammy seem to be able to make the interface so smooth? Don't get me wrong, this phone is HTC's smoothest yet, but the frame rate is still not as consistent as the galaxy. They both have similar insides and are built upon the same os, so what does Sammy do to achieve this?

I think HTC is a poor software company. Grand ambitions but they never execute really. And, I don't get it really. I bet they literally lose sales due to the stutters in the sense launcher.
I really loved sense. It's aesthetically pleasing, efficient, and has some of the best widgets I've used. But the stutter when switching home screens was too much. I mean, devs can lock down the framerate and eliminate lag but HTC doesn't think to do that? Blows my mind.
Again, its the sense launcher. Rather than root, I installed novalauncher. Smooth as butter. Significantly smoother than sense. And, the launcher is installed on top of sense. Shows you how great the hardware is and how poorly optimized sense is.
Maybe we'll get an OTA that'll address these issues. I hope so. I did read somewhere ages ago that HTC only had 4 months to design sense 4.0 so that may be the source of the problem. Maybe they've got something up their sleeve when they roll out jellybean.
Try a launcher like apex or nova prime if you want a smoother experience.
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app
the current launcher is actually not that bad, as i am using the enhanced stock rom. its just always stymied me why the frame difference, and I agree that it seems that Samsung has slightly better programmers.
But honestly Sense definitely has more utility than touchwiz
Hello, I'm running stock Android 4.1.1 on htc one x+ and my version of GTA Vice city is 1.03 (but I also tried version 1.0).
I'm experiencing huge stuttering and very low fps in the game. My device is not rooted yet and non-root game boosting apps don't make any difference.
Is Tegra 3 on the blame or am I the only one experiencing this?
I'm running 4.1.1 and I have Vice City (from Play Store) and it runs quite fine for me. It actually runs ALOT better on my One X+ then it does on my iPhone 5.

There are toolkits that make the process of rooting your HOX+ painless and essentially fool-proof if you follow the directions. Don't think of rooting as "hacking" into your phone, think of it as unlocking its inner power (through, admittedly, tampering, but let's keep up the facade) that allows you to, firstly, clean off any unwanted default apps. It is cleansing and freeing.
Of course, if you mean you don't want to mess with it in case you want to return it, then ignore my fluff.
Also, I am not a mobile gamer, so I am not qualified to answer this, but it seems like if there were an option to speed up performance, then I would go for it, but I understand if you want to figure out if there is a setting you're not getting right that prevents a supposedly top tier phone from performing as expected. There are a lot of factors that I am unable to tell you about.
Yeah, I will consider rooting it .
Thanks for your answer.
Believe it or not I get better performance on max settings.

If all else fails, you could setup the XPosed framework (requires Root) on your phone and use the App Settings module to force the browser to never close in the background (tick the Resident option I believe). http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2072081

Thank you. I'll keep that in mind. I may not touch root or anything until my 15-30 days are up to return it though. I just remember how bad things were on the HOX. Yeah. It's no where near the Galaxy S or Note lines. I don't really know why HTC cripples it to be honest. It's not bad, but it's not good. I mean, a lot of us don't swap out batteries. If HTC is going to cripple multitasking and memory management to improve battery life they should follow their own "studies" that most people don't use extra batteries and just keep it normal.
Yeah I'd rather have to charge it then have my phone refreshing all the time.

Please for your own good, get the Nexus 4. Either that or live in the Nexus 4's shadow. If i could go back, I'd get the N4, you get pure and stable roms from Google and of course, you get updates faster
At this point in time, considering what the LGOG brings to the table vs the Nexus 4, I wouldn't buy a Nexus 4 but that's just me personally. Can't tolerate devices without expandable storage myself, so the microSD card slot on the LGOG just makes it a must-buy vs the Nexus 4, not to mention the addition of actual LTE support without jumping through hoops to get it working.
And considering even the Nexus 4 is now in a holding pattern of sorts to get the factory KitKat image, being a "Nexus device" isn't helping it be any better than the LGOG at all.

I don't get this idea of shadowing. If such way of thinking is correct, then every device is in nexus's shadow. I think the goal is to have a good working phone at the end of the day. This phone has a good variety of roms to help you get there: official supports of CM, Pacman, slim, all the unofficials and the very good stock rom. Also this uses sd card, nexus doesn't

Dolby Audio really?
The sound on E970 SUCKS! I use a headphone amplifier but even with that the sound is crap. Dolby Audio really? I miss having a removable battery. Lastly, when the phone gets hot, there is a built in cap that limits the brightness of the screen. (Live in SoCal High Desert with summer temps of 110 F)
The quad core is fast and can handle quite a bit at one time. I listen to music while playing games, reading emails, cruzin' the Play Store and the internet all at the same time. Haven't had any crashes yet. There is plenty of storage internal storage. I have a lot of downloaded music and a few large games and have yet to roll over to the 16 GB external card.
Biggest disappointment is definitely the sound!!!!!!
Loving my LGOG. The sound is a bit weak. But everything else is great. I would recommend getting a best buy type warranty or a case for your phone. Gorilla glass is slippery like wet snot. I've had the back glass beak twice due to the phone sliding away and falling.
I'd buy it again.

I'll try, others feel free to add upon this. Different manufacturers use different mechanism to secure their devices. With htc its "security-on", it restrict what hboot you may run on your devices. I had an htc evo v/ htc evo 3d, with security-on I could only run hboot 1.07.07.07 whatever which only allowed stock based ics roms. After achieving s-off I was able to put a different hboot on my phone , i had jbear 1.47.47.47 i think.. which in terms allowed me to run a lot more roms. S-on also restrict what you may flash. For example firmware and radios, here we call it modem? Don't know the difference, can't be flashed with s-on.
