Hello, I'm running stock Android 4.1.1 on htc one x+ and my version of GTA Vice city is 1.03 (but I also tried version 1.0).
I'm experiencing huge stuttering and very low fps in the game. My device is not rooted yet and non-root game boosting apps don't make any difference.
Is Tegra 3 on the blame or am I the only one experiencing this?
I'm running 4.1.1 and I have Vice City (from Play Store) and it runs quite fine for me. It actually runs ALOT better on my One X+ then it does on my iPhone 5.

On what settings?
You should root your phone and install the gaming boost app made for the HTC One X.

There are toolkits that make the process of rooting your HOX+ painless and essentially fool-proof if you follow the directions. Don't think of rooting as "hacking" into your phone, think of it as unlocking its inner power (through, admittedly, tampering, but let's keep up the facade) that allows you to, firstly, clean off any unwanted default apps. It is cleansing and freeing.
Of course, if you mean you don't want to mess with it in case you want to return it, then ignore my fluff.
Also, I am not a mobile gamer, so I am not qualified to answer this, but it seems like if there were an option to speed up performance, then I would go for it, but I understand if you want to figure out if there is a setting you're not getting right that prevents a supposedly top tier phone from performing as expected. There are a lot of factors that I am unable to tell you about.
Yeah, I will consider rooting it .
Thanks for your answer.
Believe it or not I get better performance on max settings.

Hey guys I'm about to root my Desire X thus voiding my warranty I just wanna know if there are any problems with the phone's hardware? =)
thanks!
Nope, not at all.

After 4 Weeks the Problems started...
...first of all, iam coming from the HTC Desire handset. A solid, powerfull, less memory brave smartphone at least for 2 years.
Switched to Desire X because of the lack of memory on my Desire, although root and sd-ext.
I was very impressed of this low budget device, it did a precious impression onto me, but now i know why HTC is losing marketshare and the earnings decreases.
The device itself, even without the backside attached creaks on the upper left and right corner - ok i would life with that, but there are constant reboots and state an error report, while my device is on standby and stored in my pocket - maybe there is too much pressure applied while i tie up my shoes, but my old desire took it without any problems.
The main problem is the screen, i got an array of faulty pixels - so iam heading to my retailer to get this device repaired and then sold.
Nexus 4 iam coming, although i loved the handy size....
Attached pictures of the upper left corner taken with a One S through a magnifying glass...
no problem
I also have a Desire S, now my wife is using it.
Until now I don't have any problem, it's smoother and I think it eats less battery than Desire S (both stock ROM).
Waiting for full Sense that i miss from Desire S :crying:
Unfortunately I recognized one problem.
After every shutdown and restart of the phone I miss some apps on the screen or in my favourite folder.
Like most of my other apps I transferred them with Titanium Backup from my old phone (Desire).
I cannot see, why these few apps (Financial Times App, Paradise Island, Blast Monkeys, Bad Piggies) behave like this and the others not. Maybe it is associated with root, maybe not...
Yep, have the same problem, it's because those apps are installed on the SD-card, and the phone doesn't link them to the screen when booting.

That means theres no way to change that behaviour (without another rom)?

Why should another launcher solve the problem?
The apps will stay on the SD-card, why should the behaviour change?
The only problem is the small number of developers writing ROMs. :silly:

Because they use other methods for the shortcuts. Just try it and give us feedback. I don't have the problem on my desire x so it's up to you.

Ok so I had only ever owned Samsung phones...I had the HTC one x and I hated how aggressive the multitasking was....so got the one today and I'm still noticing the issue even with the extra gig of ram....like xda for instance if I leave it open and go back it'll refresh...same with the web...I don't know if it's my imagination but personally I don't see a difference..and I have maybe like 4 programs open....btw is there a taskmanager I can use to clear ram?

Ugh. Not going to lie, this post worries me. I made my purchase based on the fact that with such a big deal it was on the HOX I figured reviews would mention it this time if it was a problem and no one had. It's what made me jump to the S3 at the time.

I know what your taking bout, this was the reason I took back the one x after a week and ended up with the S3. I did noticed it a bit when I played with the ONE at the store but not enough to not buy the phone.

I'm not an addict I just flash a lot.
I just flashed trickdroid....gunna try that out...I know on the one x vipers Rom helped...so maybe when more development comes along there will be better management...it's definitely better then the one x was tho the more I use it

If all else fails, you could setup the XPosed framework (requires Root) on your phone and use the App Settings module to force the browser to never close in the background (tick the Resident option I believe). http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2072081

Thank you. I'll keep that in mind. I may not touch root or anything until my 15-30 days are up to return it though. I just remember how bad things were on the HOX. No matter the rom or tweak they could never get it fixed. It just drove me off the device eventually. Having a little pre-device buyers remorse at the moment but we'll see this afternoon! Thank you for the future reference though.

This scares me about the phone. I was about to pick it up tomorrow but now I am second guessing myself. I really did hate the HOX multitasking. Where I work the Internet is slow, I don't want to have to wait for all the reloads.

Yeah. It's no where near the Galaxy S or Note lines. I don't really know why HTC cripples it to be honest. It's not bad, but it's not good. I mean, a lot of us don't swap out batteries. If HTC is going to cripple multitasking and memory management to improve battery life they should follow their own "studies" that most people don't use extra batteries and just keep it normal.
Yeah I'd rather have to charge it then have my phone refreshing all the time.

Yeah I honestly am probably not going to root or unlock this one. I don't mind it stock to be honest. And it seems to cause more trouble than it's worth.
I've been using my HOX+ for a little over 4 months now and I can already tell it's going to go down as my favorite Android phone to date (with the exception of the Nexus One, it still holds a special place in my heart). With that said though, while I find HTC's customization of stock Android very useful in some areas, I'm now seeing the effects it has on the overall performance of the phone. I got my dad an Xperia TL and was using it for a week or so to get it ready for him and even though the HOX+ smacks the heck out of it with it's CPU numbers, the fact of the matter is that the Xperia is much, much [much] snappier since customization of the OS is very limited. You can quickly and easily see the difference by just typing with the keyboard, the HOX+ has that delay/lag to it when typing quickly or using the backspace, however, there is none with the Xperia TL...very similar to my Nexus 7. Swiping aside, my typing accuracy is far better on the Xperia TL and my Nexus 7 than with the HOX+.
It's really unfortunate that we don't have any AOSP ROMS (CM, AOKP, etc) for the AT&T varient because this phone would be fast as heck.
Elegancia has "de-sensed" options if you want a ROM without HTC's sense.
I think the sense interface is the element that most distinguishes HTC from all other manufacturers ....
Unfortunately its beauty is comparable to its heaviness
Maybe the question is how to optimize the sense ....
Sent from my HTC One X+ using xda app-developers app
So HTC should focus on optimizing sense... even the "feature overloaded" Touchwiz (compared galaxy S3 of a friend with my x+) is snappier/faster on similar Hardware.
Sense 5 should better optimized.

No regrets whatsoever, like I said, still love the phone and my favorite Android to date (#6 now). Just ticked at how Sense or any customization kills the phone's performance potential. I'll give Elegancia once they update it with the latest AT&T update...can't do it now.

My international HOX+ is fully stock, and its buttery smooth, sgs3 has no match to the smoothness on sense 4+, locked 60 fps.
Tips:
Go into developer options and set all the animations to .5x
tick force gpu rendering.
go to check if 7 digital is running in apps>running, and disable it if it's there.
Disable HTC gestures in display, gestures and buttons
Use the power saver and only tick the conserve cpu usage to underclock cpu to 1.3ghz, it doesn't slow down the device (if you're not rooted)
For the keyboard, try using the trace keyboard option in the sense keyboard

It really is. Sense is just beautiful. People complain about how much better TouchWiz is, but Sense is easier to navigate...
It just seems to me that HTC just needs to get rid of some (maybe most) of the proprietary apps when google can supply the same services in a more lightweight manner. Particularly for the AT&T version. You really can't use that version without rooting it and getting rid of the AT&T apps because despite the quad-core processor they REALLY slow it down (not to mention that they drain the battery even if you're not doing much of anything).
It's great after that though. I'm just looking forward to REAL AOSP on my AT&T X+....if hope isn't lost.
Anyone have more TIPS for daily Sense optimization!?!?!?:silly:

Just tried a One at Best Buy. Sense 5 doesn't seem any better to me in terms of performance. It seems pretty similar to what we have now. Sense has become way too bloated for me. I am going to the galaxy s3 actually, because I can at least root it and install an AOSP rom with ease, opposed to the Att One X+.

I didn't not know about that. Doesn't it just effect the device for warranty purposes. It just voids warranty after a certain amount of flashes?
Edit: just looked into it, I won't be taking it in for warranty most likely and there is an app called triangle away to reset boot counter if so.

Yea I would like this One X+ a lot more of we had s-off or HTC didn't lock it down so much. The One doesnt have these issues. HTC had to face the brink of corporate failure before they provided a device like the One. I feel a little duped by HTC.

I've seen a couple of threads here and there in regards to multitasking, however the responses are all over the place. Before I actually go and return my S4 for a One, I would like to know how well multitasking works. Are apps still constantly refreshing? Some say that HTC has still implemented their aggressive memory management functions into the software (not as bad as the One X though) and some report that it works perfectly well. The phone seems amazing and all, but if it can't multitask then it is an absolute deal breaker for me. Same reason why I returned my One X at the time. Anyone who has had the device for some time care to shed some light?

The apps I multitask with have been doing fine. The HTC One X was very aggressive but it is noticeably lighter on the One.
OCD kicked in and I actually went purchased one for retail price. If anyone was still wondering, it seems that apps are still refreshing, but not too aggressively. As @Daryll99 mentioned, Tegra devices are known for getting hot. But it is normal and you shouldn't worry about it (even if battery-app-savers will warn you with a battery overheating warning). If you read about the HOX on wiki, you will see that the first HOX with no updates liked to reach even higher temperatures than now .
When I play games, I hold my fingers on the edge of phone, don't know how you are playing. It is comfortable and I don't need to worry about my fingers .
Dont worry about your fingers? im worried about the CPU
