A friend of mine has dropped her S3 and the glass has smashed right along from top to bottom, the phone still boots and works from that stand point apart from touch input. She has the grid password screen on, so she can't input the patten to unlock her phone... my question is... is there any way of getting her photos off the internal HD with out root access ?

Factory reset and wipe would lose the lock and keep the pics i think. Everytime i full wipe i keep my pics.
Hold Volume up. Home and power buttons together to enter recovery mode. Then factory reset. Dont need to unlock to get into recovery do u?? Try it. If not its gta be download mode and odin etc. But see how u go

Yes, but the phone would be stuck on the welcome (Setup) screen.
MTP mode (plugin into USB) should work without root too. If the phone has USB Debugging activated then you can also access it via ADB.
Alternatively, custom recoveries (CWM) also have ADB support.
Mirror onto pc. Android emulator etc

Like what d4fseeker said above, if you have android toolkit installed, then you could just adb pull <from> <to> the photos off her phone. I did the same when the missus' HTC Sensation got dropped cracking both the digitizer and LCD. It would still boot fine but couldn't see anything on the screen, so I used adb instead.

hi all. I have a huge problem. I tried to fix the lag by using the file posted here and it didn't solve the problem so i tried to delete the lag fix from "remove" option on MCR program then it went to black! Ok, here is the important part. When I rooted the phone, I used sdk option to root the phone as my buttons were not worked for recovery mode (newer version i guess...) and now , as i can't use the sdk option to make it recovery mode, i can't fix the brick problem!! Can someone pls get into this? I purchased this phone from ebay and set up the phone for last 3 days....if i don't sove this, I'll be in trouble..Thanks all!
Get in to download mode flash stock odin and you be good to go

Have you tried this? This works for me..
For recovery mode this works for me,
Remove battery
Install battery
Press and hold vol+/vol-
Press and hold power button
Once you see the Vibrant Screen do not release any of the buttons (vol+/vol- and power buttons) it will go black then back to Vibrant screen, then you release the power button only but keep pressing the vol-/vol+ buttons... this should get you into recovery mode..
For Download mode this helps me,
Remove Battery
Plug in USB cable to phone and computer
Put Battery In.. wait a couple of seconde until it shows the battery being charge..
Press and hold the vol+/vol- and the power button..
This will power up you phone.. once you see the Vibrant screen and it turn black, release the power button only.. this should get you into DL mode (it works for me). good luck.
Well If you have the hardware locked vibrant you are out of luck. There is nothing you can do

Boot into droid recovery and wipe data
Hey guys i need some help...i am running a rooted tbolt that the screen isnt turning on....like when i start the phone it acts like its booting up but there is no htc screen or anything....i cant get into recovery cause the screen stays blank....any suggestions????
Thanks
Does the phone work, does it even boot into the OS at all?
See if ADB will recognize the device in the booting stage. If it does, try doing either:
adb reboot recovery
or
adb reboot bootloader
If you can get into either of these, your in business
the phone like "acts" like it is on but the backlight is just not coming on...like i still get what i think are texts like it will ring when called and if i swipe down i am able to answer the call....so i dont think that it is the rom that i have on it but something more hardware

Have you recently put and left any img. zip on the root of your sd card.
This can have a similar effect. If you did you can remove it using another phone or an adapter on your pc.
Sent from my ADR6400L using xda premium
I did have the last zip that i used and i have removed that...after it should i just have to restart the phone after a battery pull????
If you removed that you should be able to boot it up to bootloader and restore your backup.

So I just sent my S3 looping through the air crashing in my bathtub. Although dry, it seems to have killed the display. I'm unable to unlock it. Which gives me some problems when it comes to accessing my data which is on the built in memory on the phone. This media transfer thing does not let me access the data when the screen is locked, and the touchpad doesnt seem to work
Ideas?
Thanks
You can search for the multiple identical question posted is about all .

The wife dropped her S4 today and cracked the "inner screen" so there is no discernible display and it doesn't respond to touches.
I just want to wipe the phone clean but cannot find any way of doing so. Keep in mind that the S4 is stock, not rooted... so far:
adb shell: wipe data (says no permissions)
Tried to boot into stock recovery and guess at the menu options (didn't work)
Installing remote control apps (TeamViewer, etc.) but can't get the codes to appear on the screen so that I can use mouse/keyboard on my laptop to control screen, I can only view the screen.
fastboot -w command (didn't work)
I can see the phone's screen when booted to the Android OS using the "androidscreencast" java program, but because I am not rooted, it will not accept mouse clicks.
Aside from just taking a sledgehammer to the phone, anyone know of a way to wipe the phone so I don't have to press anything on the screen?
Another thing that may help would be for someone to write out the steps to wipe the phone in recovery. (Meaning: "Boot to recovery. Volume down 3 times, press power. Volume down 5 times, press power.)
Basically, I have a smartphone that works, but I might as well be blind! :silly:
Huge magnots near the back should wip it clen

Kies or the vzw software utility that came with it will do the trick. Just plug into ac PC or Mac. Install the software. Its on the phone already. Then select repair utility. It will reinstall the firmware which will wipe the phone.

Totally forgot about Kies, thank you so much! :victory: Now I can back her crap up and then wipe for when her new phone gets here.
I think I need to invest in an otterbox for her... she's cracked 3 screens and dropped 2 others in water since I've known her (11 years)!
