Hi everyone, I'm new here. The HTC Aria is my first android phone, and I had an iPhone before. I am having problems, the Audio quality is really really bad. It's not my music's fault cuz it's bad for everything. I am the only one having this issue or is every one having this issue. My phone is currently rooted and is running the Liberated 2.2.2 or something like that.
Was this a problem before you rooted and changed the ROM?
Also, you need to be more specific... is the problem with the loudspeaker on the back of the phone, the earpiece (talking on the phone), or when connecting something to the headphone jack?
What software are you using to play music? What headphones / speakers are you using? ( Just curious ).
With my Sennheiser HD 280 pro headphones I've noticed the sound quality isn't as good as my girlfriend's iPod or my creative Zen vision m. It's pretty good, but nothing spectacular. I suppose it's because those are two devices specifically made for playing music, while the aria is, above all else, just a phone. With the aria I usually prefer to use "cheap" skullcandy earbuds so that I can't tell the difference in quality.
Of course, your results may vary from mine.

Thanks for the Response guys! I was using the default Music player. But I am going to try CM7 now because it has the Equalizer function.
Ok guys, it's sorta fixed. I'm using CM7 2.3.4 and a Music app that was ported from MIUI. It's sorta fixed, now so no worries. Thanks for replying fast though guys.
Anyone else out there try to use their Atrix to record audio, specifically loud-ish audio?
I am in a band, and as we work on new songs, we like to record what we've worked on to listen to outside of our jamspace to remember and to think about parts... our guitarist has an iPhone 4 and we have always used his phone to record. it does a pretty good job, and i think it has an on-board limiter to prevent clipping on playback. i got my Atrix a few months ago, and of course wanted to 1-up my iPhone4-using buddy, but when i record just about anything with my phone i get massive clipping and the resulting files are useless.
Has anyone found an app with a useful recording interface (preferably with a limiter). Ive tried Tape-a-talk, Hi-Fi Recorder, and Tape Machine Lite, and none have provided a helpful alternative to the iphone :-(
Hi everyone.
I am experiencing an issue with the quality of bluetooth audio playback similar to the ones in these threads.
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=39632#c158
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2184333
How can I fix it?
Thank you
Lots of looks.....
Does anyone else notice the poor sound quality over Bluetooth?
A scratchy distorted sound in the high frequencies?
Am I the only one?
It happens on both my 7" & 8.9" HDX's.

Yes I do. My bluetooth lags and randomly disconnects. I've t tried with three different devices so I know it's not the devices fault.
thanks for the reply gutts

Can someone post impressions about headphone audio quality of the V10? From an audiophile perspective. Thanks

Qualcomm Snapdragon DAC
The standard DAC in the Qualcomm Snapdragon SOC is mediocre at best. I use a pair of Sennheiser Momentums to test sound quality between my devices as they're easily driven by cellular audio DACs. Comparing the Note 4's Snapdragon 805 DAC to the Wolfson chip in the Exynos 7420 in the Note 5 is like night and day. Not only is it much louder, the details are far cleaner with highs, mids and lows better represented. Even with the d*mn good Sound Alive equalizer in the Note 4, the audio is recessed juxtaposed to the Wolfson chip. Without having tested the Vivo Hi-Fi DAC, I'd still have to give the overall win to HTC in terms of headphone audio quality. They never revealed the DAC, but it's leagues better than the S5 which had the same chipset.
Why is it only limited the the stock player? I'm confused. I thought it was for all sound output
Hmm that's pretty dissapoinying if what the reviewer says about the dac is correct. The m9 is great, but I would assume a significant upgrade with the sabre dac.
Wonder why only the standard music app can access the dac?

I guess the good sound quality comes from a good quality AMP that goes along with the DAC......A good amp allow headphones to give their full potential

That is not right. I have listened the 24-bit tune that comes with the phone using both the stock Music Player and Google Play Music and both sound exactly alike.
Also, when you are using Hi-Fi, and icon shows in the top bar, and it happens with both the stock Music Player and Google Play Music.
I think flashmp3 should really clarify his sources, because based on evidence, what he says is just not true.

It's talked about in this audio review on Head-Fi:
http://www.head-fi.org/t/785335/lg-v10-hi-fi-audio-quality-review-on-serious-audio-performance
The op of that thread verified that the additional DAC is only functional on the LG app.
Exactly........that was my source. I should have precised it.......i thought that people talking in this thread here were the same talking in the LG V10 thread on Head-Fi as both are concerned by audio quality

Listening to Google Play Music, I still see the Hi-Fi icon. In fact, it lights on right after you connect headphones, no matter if you are playing any music or not.
The sound amplification does not change no matter which player I use: Stock or Play Music. I have tested it listening with some pretty good headphones, and using the 24-bit sample provided by LG.
The only way I can think neither of us is wrong, is that the latest update (1 week ago) has enabled it for all the players and the review on the Hi-Fi forum was on the firmware before the update?
I have a F600S, but I do not think the exact phone variant will make a difference on this.

From reading some of the Head Fi discussion, I'm not sure that the OP "verified" that the additional dac only works with the LG app. The poster seems to believe strongly that it's the case. There's no concrete evidence given, in my opinion.

That would make my day if it is patched. I want this phone so bad.
I have been using the V10 for the better part of two days. It sounds damn good. Mostly of my music is 24/96 and 16/44 FLAC files
I typically run my note 4 with an Apex Glacier. This will definitely be replacing that setup.
I didn't honestly use anything other then the stock music player. It sounds amazing as is so didn't bother trying anything else. I can load PowerAmp in the morning and check though.

Now that I saw the app I'll update to that.
Thanks for the heads up bro!
I'd wager that this does nothing for our phone, since it's made for Qualcomm DACs. The Axon 7 only uses the Qualcomm DAC in Standard audio mode on stock MiFavor, and it never uses it on LineageOS and related ROMs.

It might be beneficial for stock users who don't use Super audio mode already. I don't know why someone would use Standard on stock, but this could benefit those people.

In stock, Super audio uses the AKM DAC and amplifier, while Standard uses the Qualcomm DAC. I usually just keep mine on Super all the time.
Super audio mode?
Guys instead of arguing whether or not this is beneficial, just try the mod, it doesn't hurt really.
It's tiring seeing users arguing about something and not actually trying it.

Whatever you say mr developer, I'm so sorry if I doubted your flawless argument.
On a serious note if you don't wanna try it you have every right to do so, but others may be interested, regardless what you think.
You haven't proved somehow this doesn't work, simply stating that it doesn't doesn't mean it doesn't.

Okay.
On other phones, OEMs will use the standard Qualcomm DAC and amplifier. In our Axon 7, we have the AKM AK4490 DAC paired with the AKM AK4961 DSP and amplifier.
If you are using LineageOS, the AKM DAC and DSP/amplifier are enabled all the time and the standard Qualcomm DAC is not used at all. This is because of a recent patch in Lineage. Let's review what this mod does:
"enables Qualcomm's high_performancce_mode on your in-built WCD9xxx DAC, this switches headphones class amplifier from Class G to Class A/B"
and
"sets your ALSA sound PCM rate converter to its maximum quality (samplerate_best) and your syetm-wide resampler quality to '4' (Maximum quality value). "
That's great, but the Qualcomm DAC is not used in Lineage. So, this will have no effect.
What about stock MiFavor? Using stock, you can switch between the Qualcomm DAC (Standard mode) and the AKM DAC (Super mode). I can assure you that even with this mod applied, Super mode will be better than Standard mode simply because of the better hardware being used. No amount of software tweaking can compensate for an inferior Qualcomm DAC.
If you set audio to Standard mode and use this mod, the only thing changing from a Class G to a Class AB amplifier will do is remove one voltage supply. It will not impact the audio in any way. If you set audio to Super mode, the AK4961 amplifier is a class G amplifier and is not changed by this mod. Even if there was a mod to change the AK4961 to a Class AB amplifier, it would not change the audio at all. So, in stock MiFavor it will have an effect, however that effect is made useless since we can switch to Super mode and have a better audio experience without using this mod.
This is not just what I think, these are the facts about our Axon 7.

That's a more well-constructed answer, I'm glad you know how to talk after all.
When I was on mifavor some time ago and used the mod, normal mode sounded better on my headphones than super mode ever did until that day.
Maybe it's the headphones to blame for that?1
In any case I definitely heard a difference.
Anything that can improve our phone is beneficial for it, you're free to use it or not of course.

It's very possible it did sound better because of the headphones instead of the phone's audio hardware. The AKM audio hardware is better suited to higher impedance, high-end headphones. If the headphones you were using weren't high-end, Standard mode really could have sounded better.

Yup! When using my IEMs which are also 16 ohms I can hardly hear a difference switching from Super to Standard. However, when using my higher impedance headphones I can clearly hear a difference in both audio quality and volume. That's definitely what happened in your case, and mine for that matter.
