This might be the dumbest question ever, just want to make sure. I got the SPRINT HTC EVO 3D from my sister, I live outside the US so I'm using the phone abroad with another company. Is there any way I can get the sprint ICS update?? Thanks in advance.

Cool ROM bro.
So what happens now is that Papa Smurf will chide you with a huge signature about not reading the rules (located here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1745961) and move this to the proper place.

The short answer is no. Sprint has not released their ICS update yet. However, Virgin Mobile (a Sprint subsdiary) has. You can download ROMs based off of that firmware. I hear derpICS is pretty popular.
However, I personally recommend CM9 Devil Toast. I much prefer the CyanogenMod experiance compared to an HTC Sense-based one. But feel free to try out both and find out what works best for you. A word of caution, though: (almost) all the ROMs you will find on this forum are geared towards Sprint. I'd be careful about using them with another carrier.
And finally, this topic you started should really go in the Q&A section.
All of the information above assumes you have a CDMA device. If you're international and your Evo 3D does not have Sprint written right below the front facing camera, it's entirely possible that you have a GSM version, in which case I suggest you check out over here: EVO 3D GSM Android Development.

Yes you can update your 3d when sprint releases it though you are on another carrier .
But just to be safe , make a backup of all your EVO 3d carrier settings, prl etc using CDMA WORKSHOP or QPST . I too took the previous OTA updates and to my knowledge they don't touch your carrier settings .
Make sure you backup MMS settings too..

My only concern is that if the phone is abroad, it will not receive the ota since you are not on Sprint towers (right?).
EDIT: You do get OTAs even if you are out of country. Good to know. Thanks mnomaanw!

Remember we have the U.S. carrier blockade to deal with.
I just want a new kernel w/ ZSL support, more camera options (like burst & whatnot) & a radio update. By the time we get ours. (Probably November?)
Not much, just some refinements.
My phone notifies me about the update too (look @ my screenshot) from Germany
My frequently question is if the update will change the hboot version or should block the revolutionary unlock method in some way

just wondering if any devs can modify this update for users with stock rom rooted devices
Is it going to allow us cdma-ers to one day be able to get the same development as the gsm devices do? Since it seems it is a gsm technology. Or is it just wishful thinking? And by that I mean quicker updates because we are using the same hardware as the rest of the world, the major purchaser of these Devices. Which, in my mind, would allow us to get radio drivers sooner. Or am I just reading way to much into the gsm similarity of LTE?

Lte is a gsm technology.
I think I understand what you are trying to ask... My version of the answer is this: yes LTE is going to help us. The Rezound is great example why. It supports Vzw CDMA, LTe(Sum based), plus all other GSM bands. Mostly.
The unlocked international versions always get new FW updates first, and since our hardware is now essentially the sme, can we get the updates as well? Yes and no, it would be similar FW, English, and written for cdma, so there will b some differences, but it still is mostly carrier dependent. US has a system where the carriers are the boss, like the "big brother" selling a whole exoerience. So to answer your Q, only time will tell. I wish android OEM's would follow apples lead on how to drop an update.

I don't necessarily mean the official updates, but more the ability to use things like asop. As, in my experience/understanding , it has always been closed cdma drivers that held things up.

I don't really mean the official updates, but I think you did pretty well answer my question. I remember with the TB, and the TB still isn't able to work with ics and the Ril, that it seemed as if the support was lacking due to the cdma drivers being closed. Or that is my novice understanding. I'm just wondering if 3-4 years down the road we will be able to get nexus type support due to having more compatible radio hardware.

No, from my understanding, LTe is just an evolved version of gsm. CDMA and gsm are different, but LTE is an offshoot of gsm.

Well with each generation of phone, it's getting harder to completely unlock the phone for different reason.
Look at the Rezound, we still don't have data for any AOSP ROMs we may/may not have, it gets harder and harder and I think it's a lot more than just CDMA drivers.

This is the first executable RUU ICS leak for the EVO 3D and possibly the final release. It probably contains a new HBOOT, so make sure you have S-OFF before flashing. This will wipe your data!!
RUU_Shooter_ICS_35_S_Sprint_WWE_VM_1.13.652.2.exe
Mod Edit:
This appears to be an updated VM or hybrid Sprint/VM build with new h-boot. This is not necessarily meant for the Sprint version. IF you want to flash this you do so at your own risk, but please read through the thread first!
super effin' sweet... although it seems pretty much like the leaked VM.
Oooohhhh....I wanna try, but, I'm not gonna be a sacrificial lamb this time around
.... Isn't this the virgin Mobile release from last month?
It's good to always be on the safe side and wait, but we are fairly certain this RUU.exe will not brick your device in any way. Flashing the PG86IMG is much more riskier than using the RUU.exe tool

i would think that the Sprint's EVO 3D ICS release would be 3.xx.xx.xx

True. However, once a few devs rip this beast apart, there should be some ics roms getting updated... 1 thing a never ever understood, even from the HTC Vogue days. Why is it that when you flash anything to a Sprint phone other that isn't a Sprint ROM it'll **** up everything, but when you try flashing a Sprint ROM on top of that it doesn't un**** it? SMH

Look in the GSM threads, they will tell you.
Flash any sense 4 rom then look up the gsm patch from the GSM thread in the Q&A section, its linked on the first post.
Or you can.just flash the MIUI rom in the dev section, its gsm based and active out of the box.

The rep would not know anything except an update currently in the pipeline, that is, already heading our way. Only someone at Tmo corporate headquarters would know the strategic deployment strategy, and they do not talk. TMO tends to release updates later than other companies.

who cares how much difference it makes... t-mobile is clearly lazier about updating than other companies and need a push to do so.

Well, for my Amaze 4G, they released the upgrade to ICS after about 5 months. And then very recently they did another upgrade, which would be almost a year later. But that first major update wasn't that late.
