I recently purchased a Samsung mhl adapter for my fascinate. I have tried multiple different combinations of power/order of connections and have had no luck. Anyone have any idea what my problem is? I do not know if it is software or hardware related.

Is it cm9/ice that is the issue? I remember reading that our phone has mhl capability...am I misremembering?

I believe the SGS2 was the first from Samsung with MHL compatibility. You can get the large screen experience on the Fascinate, though. You just have to hold it really close to your face.

I see lol...okay, second question:
I know there is a video out peripheral for the Fascinate...does anyone with experience using it know if it would be suitable for mirroring games on a monitor? This is the main reason i wanted to use mhl.
TV out has never been accomplished with the fascinate, the hardware is not there. Other galaxy s models do have it but not the fascinate or mesmerize.

So true. You can read some funny threads about it if you dig a bit. Neh4pres, I think, once had a $100 reward out for anyone who could get it to work. Then, of course, there were the Enyo jokes.
I would like to rebut my previous answer and add that perhaps the Telus version of the fascinate has TV out but i don't think it does...can't remember :screwy:

OMG! How can you live with an upside down port! That must inconvenience you so much it's unbearable. Screw war in iraq, or earthquakes in japan, this is the real issue in this day and age, to have to twist your wrist a quarter turn is just unacceptable.

Can I use Samsung Fascinate i500 2.2 as a webcam on the laptop?
Yes it will be for film my girlfriend and I in HD because my old webcam just does not do it for me anymore, and how can I possibly enjoi it later when it just looks all blurry?
Yes I can just go buy another one... I just thought this could be more fun and money friendly.
On a serious note... It would be cool to see if it can work? I have looked far and wide, no luck. if not is their any smart phone that could be used in such a way?
Thanks in advance

Interesting, but we need to some some ballpark prices. If there's only a $50 difference between the models, I don't think most people will care.

Short answer, charging/HDMI spots are in different positions so it wouldnt fit.
yea i noticed the hdmi and micro ports switched.....which really pissed me off that moto would do that, but im suspecting they will put out a lapdock for the photon specifically.

IMO, Motorola is stepping on their own foot. Had they not switched port positions, the Atrix lap dock could have been a huge selling item for the Photon or any other Moto phone which supports it. Why keep investing MORE money for additional docks when this one alone could have raked in a lot of cash.
I'm going to test something that might just work.
We might be able to MacGyver the Atrix LapDock for use with our Photons. Using Micro USB and HDMI Extender cables.
It's not elegant, by any stretch...but would be an easy workaround.
I wouldn't be adverse to having my Photon attached to the LapDock via cables, instead of docked.
If anyone beats me to testing this out, please report your findings.
Apparently at&t has exclusive rights to the laptop dock (using with the atrix) for a period of time. Not sure how long.

Nope...haven't found THAT yet. Maybe they don't make the HDMI one?
Right now it looks like a tangled mess of adapters to make this work.
There is this adapter micro f to hdmi male:
http://www.usbsea.com/products/HDMI_Male_to_Micro_HDMI_Female_Adapter_R-AD-HMHF4.html
Then you need an hdmi f to f like this:
http://www.usbsea.com/products/HDMI_Female_to_HDMI_Female_Adapter_R-AD-HFHF.html
Then you can use your micro to regular hdmi cable.
I'm still looking for a micro hdmi f to micro hdmi m which would be perfect.

It's really frustrating that Sprint and Motorola are so far behind on the laptop dock for this phone. I really want this dock so that I can use it for work when I am on call, and not have to lug around a laptop and wait for it to boot up, connect to my hotspot etc. C'mon Sprint, C'mon Motorola! All they need to do is build two parts, a longer cable for the HDMI/USB ports, and a new baseplate for the phone to sit on, this should be nothing to kick those out, since obviously aside from the ports being swapped, it still works on this phone.
I've seen that the TP has some sort of NFC-like capability (you can bring your Pre phone to it and transfer files, etc). Does anyone know if it's something that ICS will be able to use as NFC, or is it just some HP-specific NFC-similar-but-not thing?

Unfortunetly, its a similar but proprietary thing. Not very likely chances of it ever working.
Works the same way but yeah property thing only for webos/hp devices and since webos is a close system doubt we will ever get to use it as a NFC

It's becoming open source.
2 months later and you have a comeback. I'm not sure what the touchpad uses but it does look alot like nfc.
Any news on this now that web os is open source? Maybe some sort of hack to use it with android phones.

I can't imagine using the Touchpad for contactless payment due to it's size, but it could be handy to use Android Beam, in a similar way to how it was designed to work originally with the Pre3
Hello,
I've read that the HP touchpad and HP phones communicate through "magnets" of some sort.
After that, they communicate via bluetooth.
All seems proprietary to me, my Gnex isn't picking up any NFC readings on the Touchpad would be cool if it was made to work (to share things like the HP phones)
My observation
i bought like 3 touchpad during the fire sale and my observation was, there was some kinda weird technology on webos separate than NFC which uses bluetooth technology to have near filed communication!!! if u have 2 touchpad jus give it a try by placing 2 touchpad on top of one another from backside!!! it will work as it should with phone but it will prompt u to turn on the Bluetooth.... so i dont think touchpad have nfc on it but uses bluetooth to communicate between eachother!!
Touchpad and Pre3 (veer was suppose to get it OTA) use NFC to pair the devices together over Bluetooth and since Bluetooth is faster it transfers those files.
Almost as if the NFC on the touchpad holds Bluetooth pairing information ex. Mac Address and Key. HP did announce in their Think Beyond event that they will let this feature be available to developers, but that never happened. Its limited compared to conventional NFC, but eventually with Open webOS maybe somebody will look into this.

Hello everyone. I have gone as far as I can go by myself, and I am looking for a little help to see if together we can get this working.
I have a Lilliput 669GL-70NP/C/T 7" touch screen that I want to try and get working over USB host. So far, all my attempts have been fruitless, but I think that it is possible. The touchscreen utilizes an eGalax driver to work, and I see from their web site here:
http://home.eeti.com.tw/web20/eGalaxTouchDriver/linuxDriver.htm
that they have created a linux driver for ARM devices. Based on what I have been able to determine, this means that I should be able to load the driver on android, but this is where I start getting in way over my head.
Does anyone know what I should be trying to get this to work? I also read that ICS has some form of touch input built in... should I be trying this on that? Right now I am running CM7. It seems to me like with a little work we could have external touchscreens for our Atrix!
Oh I forgot to mention, when I plug the touchscreen in, DMSG does register a USB HID input device as "eGalax Inc. USB TouchController"
CM7 also registers the handlers for the touchscreen as mouse1 and event10 when I run "cat /proc/bus/input/devices"
It seems like this is so close right out of the box! I'm trying my best to load the drivers now from terminal... we'll see how that goes.
Hope you get it sorted.

Thanks, My idea here is to dump the phone to a mounted 7" screen in my car dash. I want to basically have a touch screen head unit with all the power android offers, and the unlimited data that AT&T is still reluctantly supplying.
As far as the project goes... I just tried on Joker's CM9 built with the exact same results... I was hoping maybe the rumors I had heard about ICS support were true, but not out of the box i suppose. As far as the drivers, I can not get the calibration / driver utility to run so far... and that's as far as I'm going to be able to go tonight.

HDMI works great as is. However, I was looking to be able to provide input back to the phone. Otherwise, the phone still has to be front and center for controlling, which in my opinion kind of defeats the purpose of putting the screen there in the first place.
Basically you want to do like, vnc and pocket cloud, where you control your computer via smartphone but you wanna control the phone instead via touchscreen panel, that sounds like a pain in the ass!

Are you sure that the USB isn't just for passing touchscreen input back to a device? I mean, I know there are such things as USB monitors, but I don't think this is one of them, is what I'm saying -- I'm pretty sure you need to use both HDMI and USB for this to work.
Even if you could load the driver. Which you can. You still need to write some libs and script to get android on the screen. Good luck

Perhaps I need to clarify... The Lilliput 669 has a proprietary HDMI cable that breaks into HDMI and USB. I am not trying to send video and input over USB, just input. The HDMI part works as is. I plan on using both HDMI and USB in the final solution.

Yea me too! I have tried in vain to buy this. $189 AU is a little less than $200, which I would be perfectly ok with for a completely working bluetooth solution. However, I can't buy it. MP3car.com is working with the designer to bring the product to market, but they are still 4-8 weeks out, and there are some concerns that it may not be released at all. The designer's web site lists the product as out of stock.
I have tried to find somewhere else that I could buy it, or at least get schematics to build one, but it has been in vain. By the way, this has been re-branded as "Mimics for Android".
I had been wanting to do the same thing. The other day i just came across something that should be coming out end of the month android quadcore mini development board. so you could say use touch monitor and android OS i see they have bluetooth also so maybe phone could connect bluetooth to the android system in car. there isnt much more info on the board but it looks promising for an incar project its tiny. its called odroid-x http://www.hardkernel.com/renewal_2011/products/prdt_info.php
there was some other $100 range android cube thing i saw recently too that might be good. OUYA is name of it maybe XDA will have a section one day for these devices. could make for some good in-car systems much cheaper than indash receivers and more features.
Good luck to ya, keep us posted. I would kill for a solution like this. I would love to be able to implement this, with a fiber optic audio out to a DSP like the Zapco DSP6 or Audison BitOne.1 or the Helix C/P-DSP that is coming to market.

This all sounds good, and I have seen the OUYA... it looks impressive. However this will remove the phone ability if I go this route. I could just check out the android x86 project for that... I believe they already have this screen working actually. I've been trying to follow how they made that work.
I really want to stick with my atrix as the brain so that I retain the 3g connection without another $50 a month or losing unlimited internet.
