I've trialed and tested a number of different ROMs but find that regardless of the ROM,
TOUCHWIZ WILL ALWAYS CRASH AT SOME POINT!!
Doesnt happen all the time, but it will happen, and it is a pain!!!!
Does anyone know of any ROMs where touchwiz has been removed and is not the default launcher in the ROM.
Many Thanks...
Just change launcher! Try nova, to clear default go. Settings/applications/manage applications/tw launcher and clear default

touchwiz crashes? What do you mean by that? I hope you are not talking about launcher reloading?
I would normally agree with you, and theoretically you'd think that would work! But it doesn't.. Touchwiz, because it's running in the rom still in the background, still crashes and no matter how many times you click "ok" it constantly crashes and freezes up the phone, regardless of the alternative launcher I'm running over the top..
So I was Hopi.g for a rom that had the touchwiz launcher completely removed! Either that, or is there away to completely stop touchwiz from running once I have another launcher open. Other than "force stop", cuz that doesn't seem to work either..!

Well, obviously the widgets etc redraw every now and again, but no, what I mean is it crashes!! And no matter how many times you click "ok" to restart it, it will never restart, just keep getting the popup "touchwiz has stopped, restart" or sumthin like that...
The only way to stop it and make it run again is to restart the phone every time!

I have never got a force close on TW launcher. If you are getting it on multiple roms (even stock) then there is a chance that you are restoring system data?

I would like to think that i'm not a noob when it comes to flashing etc.. I am aware and clear on what needs to be done / and not done, when flashing new roms, so i'm 99% sure that accidently restoring system data is not the issue..

Can you just use Titanium Backup and Freeze Touchwiz Home? That should stop it, although I find it really strange that it's crashing in the backup if you're using a different launcher, it shouldn't even be running if you're on another launcher.

Does anyone know if there is a way to save touchwiz settings like home screen configurations? This will be helpful when flashing different rom's, i can just restore the apps from titanium backup and restore touchwiz settings and im all set.
I'm new to touchwiz and was using ADW launcher ex before where i could save the adw settings and easily restore. I know i can use ADW ex, but wanted to use Touchwiz for sometime since i'm not finding anything wrong with it
I apologize if this has been asked and answered already, i couldn't find it in search.
Titanium Backup should take care of that, but you must have a rooted phone to use it.

App + data will do it.
Hi,
I am not sure what is the issue, but recently I am noticing that my application drawer keeps adjusting. The apps keeps moving from different screens, the last screen comes in between any two screens.
I am on 2.3.6 stock firmware from Samsung.
Any idea what might be causing this?
Thanks,
Vishal

I read somewhere in another thread (probably findable via search...) that the data files of the TW launcher can get corrupted. Try clearing the data for TW launcher in Manage Applications. You'll have to set everything up again though.
I have the same problem. I have stock 234.

There's loads of threads on this. Change dalvik cache size or just use Nova launcher. IMO it's better.

There have been loads of reports about it.
Use Nova as the poster above said or go to android.mimic.ca and upload your services.jar and it'll change the oom priorities so the launcher isn't killed.

I really think I need a lesson in how to search properly. So if I use another launcher will Touchwiz lay dormant or still be running in the background?

You could try checkrom's latest release, they have tweaked tw to reduce redraws, I haven't noticed the problem since I flashed it.

Still does it whether on custom roms or whether you apply any and all the tweaks on the forum, it also happens with all the launchers.
Serious problem that needs to be addressed.
You will also notice multitasking is a complete no no as all the other apps reload too.
More ram is needed or many many less running apps.
Go launcher doesn't seem to redraw if you can stand such an old launcher.
Peace.

Couldn't disagree more, I don't get any redraws using checkrom. And when it comes to go launcher, it's probably the most bloated and clunky browser there is albeit highly customizable. Nova and Apex are probably just a good as each other. Touchwiz seems to use less resources than other launchers but it is lacking in features.

I don't think so.
The only options would be to flash newer firmware manually with Odin (may our may not help) or use market launcher such as nova or apex. They have option in settings to keep launcher in memory. It can help, but not always prevent launcher getting killed off.

i don't know which rom you are using so copy and backup the nandroid to your computer.

No, you are just seeing the system lock screen. Touchwiz, for the most part, on the GSIII, is just a launcher. A lot of the other things you see are other parts of the ROM.
Freezing Toucwiz with Titanium Backup would have been a better choice that deleting it.

I didnt realize that the app had updated and unistalled it (as I have a backup of my apex settings and desktop). Reinstalling it gave me the same broken updated version without the ability to remove the update, so I used titanium backup pro to restore the app and data from 4 days ago and it worked perfectly. The only thing I had to do was re-add my clock widget and google music widget.

I can still use the default launcher on my tablet. If it's not going to take too long for them to fix it I might just struggle on with that. Otherwise I'll wipe and restart with the old version.
edit: sorry, just realised this thread is in a specific Motorola forum; I reached it through site search
Yeah. Mine FCs all the time, as well.
Damn it. I should have checked here first. Now I cleared the cache, then all data in the app, and finally uninstalled to reinstall. Still always crashes.
And now I lost my precious set up
I'm just going to stick to using TW and not uninstall the update or clear my settings until they fix it. I'd hate to have to re-do everything :/

Does anyone have an APK of the previous version? Touchwiz is super glitchy on my Telus Galaxy Note... I need my phone working!
I dont have a settings option from within the drop down notification bar
had to wipe and reload from backup and quickly jump to play store and turn off download for APEX until they fix it :/
I just downloaded the update. Seems to be fixed now
edit: like someone else in the market mentioned, the app appears to be a little slow. Choppy transitions, etc. Tried a reboot and nothing. Clearing my defaults seems to have fixed the issue, but restoring my settings makes it slow again. Gonna re-do all my settings and hope the choppiness goes away.

It is slow.because of the standard wallpaper scrolling. I turned off wallpaper scrolling and the.performance seems better. But I,usually use stock for the weather widget.

If you have access to a PC and WiFi you can try to push the new file through Chrome to phone. Worked for me to get Nova installed when Apex crashed. Install the Chrome to phone add on, go to the Play store from your PC, download the new Apex launcher and select the Chrome to phone icon. It should load on your phone fairly quickly. If that doesnt work push Nova the same way to get your phone stable then reinstall Apex.

Awesome that worked thanks. There had to have been something wrong with the old one anyway because when I would try to go to the play store on the phone to update the old one it would say it was up to date even though Apex was telling me to update and the phone claimed to have 1.2.5
Oh well all is good now....
