Question on Rooted App - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does the app called Ad-free work on blocking the ads in Pandora? If not does someone know how to this? I will be taking a road trip for a few days and these ads annoy me.

Highly doubt it, but there are a lot of modified Pandora apk's out there if you google it that are altered to remove ads and give unlimited skips.

I will not sign up for a 4shared account because I don't want any information that would lead authorities back to me if they ever go after them for illegal downloads.

Found Tapatalk and other premium apps for free through GetJar...Legally

I found this app on another forum. It's nice because they post a handful of premium apps you can legally get for free.
GetJar
I came across it in my search to find a way to browse Rootzwiki w/o going through my browser. Rootzwiki now wants you to pay for their app and I don't want to spend even just a few dollars for the one thread I'm temporarily watching. Anyways, someone posted that you can get Tapatalk for free through GetJar. Many of you are already using Tapatalk but for those that don't know it allows you to browse and favorite hundreds of various forums. I never had the need for TappaTalk before and would have gotten it, but it's nice now that I could find it for free.
So through your phone's browser, you need to go to the http://www.getjar.com. Download their .apk and install.
Anyways, Beautiful Widgets is also on there for free and you can browse some of the other premium apps they'll find and post.
Nice find. Will head over there and check it out.

Downloaded and installed. I just found a couple apps for free that i paid for on the market lol. Oh well. I have been trying out some of the other apps on it. Thanks for the tip!

I snagged a few of the Gold apps a week or so back, including Tapatalk, and haven't had any issues with any of them. About once a month, I tend to install their market, check to see if they've added any good ones, then uninstall the market again. Unlike Amazon, you don't have to have it installed to have the apps.
Very nice find I payed for a few of these paid apps lol thanks.

Yes you can but isn't 4 shared cracked apps? I had some at first when I did not know better. Then deleted via root explorer and bought it through the market.
This getjar seems more legit and legal I hope.
Where did you find the apk file? Thanks.

You need to go to the website getjar.com and download the app first. I hope you are not asking about the 4 shared apk files. Warning I believe they are cracked apps on 4 shared unless someone corrects me?

Not if you are downloading free ones. Nothing to crack. You can find old versions of apps if you don't like the update in market. Sometimes updated get rid of exploits

Does this app register the downloads with the Android Market? Or is this app similar to the Amazon App that gives away apps for free each day but in order to re-download them you have to have their app installed.

They don't. GetJar has their own market, so any updating would need to be done through it.
I do believe 4shared is not legal do not use it! Let's be moral and support our devs. We should also probably not continue speaking of it for the sake of the thread.

For the record, I was referring to GetJar, which is legal. I don't condone the use of illegal apps, via 4shared/wherever.
It wasn't aimed at you or anyone really, I just kept seeing it mentioned. No worries.

With the getjar, I heard people started having ads popping up when it was installed. Is this true? Is that why people install it to get the app then uninstall it?
BTW, even though they are free (I see things like Fruit Ninja FREE, etc), are these still add-supported apps? Or, is the free Fruit Ninja and Angry Birds add-free?
Thanks!
Maybe that's how they support putting paid apps for free on their website. The adds pay for the apps.

I will say that I've had ONE ad randomly appear in my notification bar (saying I'd won an iPhone/iPad/etc), but a friend (on a different network, on a different, non-rooted/modified phone) that I know for a fact has no apps from Get Jar installed got the same thing an hour or two before me (he even called to ask me about it, since I'm his "android guy" lol). Still not sure what caused that.
(Sorry about all the stuff in parenthesis)

If you experience blocking not to work on 3G but to work well on Wifi it could be related to the APN settings that changed when you upgraded from GB to ICS. If the APN has a proxy and a port set, just delete them. This worked for me using AdAway
Just forgot: here AdAway Issue 172 is some more information.
Try adaway available in the play store, it works perfectly.

Didn't FernandoSor have to pull down his Pandora he modded with no ads and unlimited skips because it was considered "warez"? Or maybe the issue was due to Pandora having Pandora One which is paid and doesnt have ads?
I would be careful with that though.

Close. It was not his mod to begin with. A friend stumbled across it and we themed it. After being posted for like two weeks it was decided to be considered warez, so he promptly removed it. Then the conversation turned to the hacked sprint WiFi hotspot that everyone posts in their roms and we left it at that. So warez are unfortunately hit and miss

the best app i use to download is MusicJunk. Tip though: the newer versions of music junk dont work, you need V3.04.. imma save you the trouble of searching and extract a copy from my phone. Music Junk V3.04:MediaFire or you can dowload it here at 4shared Music Junk.apk
EDIT: for some reason the Mediafire Link downloads the apk into a " .txt" but a simple solution is just to rename it to "Music Junk.apk" (Without quotes). however the 4shared link downloads the apk just fine.
I had used Last.fm Free before it was taken off the old Market. It had the search functionality of Tunee Music and the ability to search by Last.fm tags and look up the Artist descriptions, similar artists, etc.
The UI wasn't pretty, but searching was fast and powerful... Apparently too powerful...

Ad-blocker Apps Were Yanked From Play Store, But Help Is Here!

They prevent developers from making money. Obviously it would be happening sooner or later, I'm also surprised they remained until now.
No big deal to me. People need to make money somehow. Frankly, though, I prefer those that offer a free ad-supported version and a paid version. If I use an app a lot I'd rather just pay for it and remove the ads. It's often a bummer when people only offer ad-supported versions of apps.

You can still get AdAway from F-Droid.
Also, you can do ad blocking at the kernel level and it is already implemented in custom kernels for our phone.
Just block ads by host file I can link the file here https://www.dropbox.com/s/hat49do241hhuy8/hosts.rar or quick Google search, even quicker download, use a file explorer that has root privileges move the file to /system/etc/ rename your old one or just over write it........ GL
EDIT: You will need to unzip/unrar it then move it to /system/etc/
Re: Ad blocking apps are nuked from play store
Also I posted an ad away here

Compiled from source. So plenty of options for everyone.
AdAway has been my favorite, can't live w/o it.
Thanks a lot, gents
