A. See Quick guide to installing ROMs/kernels for newbies. If you just want to overclock, install just a kernel.
Q. How to root my official GB?
A. If you already have a custom recovery, then flash this zip. Then download busybox installer from the market and install busybox. If you don't have custom recovery, then follow the instructions here.

Hi Pros!
I have a Gionee Pioneer running Android 2.3.6.
I have tried many ways to root it.
Super one click, unlock root, recovery mode -> update update.zip, Universal Androot1.6.apk...
I have tried on and on many times and all of those one are failed.
You know that this phone is so brand-new released. Searching Google and Forums seems to be hopeless.
Updating update.zip keep saying certificate verification fail...
Anyone give me some ideal, I appreciate.
Thanks and BR.
Idea!
I dying for some now!
Not working even with johnpugazh's advice from this thread:
Tricky part is rooting this phone with SuperOneClick
When superoneclick hangs on 7th step, do as per below instruction.
1. goto phone settings->applications->development->USB debugging uncheck it and recheck it again.
2. now click root again.
If not works, try a couple of time, again and again. you will succeed.
In this method, I have rooted lot of times.
Thats all, your phone will be rooted now, have fun.

Does this device have a qualcomm chip in it? Can you provide the output of "ls -l /dev"? This one may be vulnerable to the Poot exploit, but I can't say for sure without more information.

Man, rooting with locked bl is also simple.
Plus, Unlocking bl is not the best and safe way to root.
You shouldn't advice anyone to unlock bl, it is a personal choice.
Beside The user must understand the consequences.
you won't be happy if someone blamed you for messing up his device.
Hope you understand this

I cannot get TWRP or Clockwork mod to work, all it does it break my recovery mode and I have to go to the samsung guy at bestbuy to flash it.
It is rooted.
Any alternative ways would be fine too, I just want to run carbon and need to fix it soon.
Thanks.
