Why do my apps not auto download? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've had various android phones including HTC Incredible S, HTC Sensation, Galaxy S, Galaxy S2, now I believe when you sign into your google account when setting up all your previously downloaded apps should auto download, mine never have on any of these phones, and yes backup account etc is all ticked. Why is this? Its a total bloody pain having to go in and download them all again manually.

I'm assuming "auto-restore" is also checked? Did you give the devices time?

Their are 2 options, both are checked. Nothing happens, once I go into the play store it has updates to gmail/youtube and the likes, it auto downloads these then thats it. I've searched this and I've seen other with similar problems but no cure, while others have no problems.

This problem does not occur for me. Each time I install a new rom (and I have those options checked), all my apps will auto-download.

As long as sync is enabled, it should work. There doesn't seem like there is a way to "fix" it if it doesn't.

I went through it just now. I reset the phone, entered my google details, went into the playstore and accepted, Immediately it started downloading updates to Flashplayer, Voice Search, Youtube, once it did these it stopped and that was it.
Even in the playstore when I go into previously downloaded apps half my apps are missing.

[Q] My Apps list in market - empty

Hello everyone!
I first reported it here, I've come to realize that this issue affects users of various roms, so I thought I'd ask here.
When going into the market, "my apps" list is empty, since yesterday.
The things I've tried include:
restarting
ticking and unticking "unknown sources"
cleaning market cache and data
upgrading and downgrading the market app
installing free and paid apps
removing and reinstalling the market itself
freezing and unfreezing the market using TB
running "market doctor" from TB
uninstalling non-market apps
I googled and searched this forum quite a bit, but there seems to be no recent feedback on such an issue, and the suggested methods don't work.
Demonstration image attached, courtesy of marvi0. This is from the latest market app. When using 3.1.5 or earlier, the page is just blank.
This seems to be a cross-rom issue, as I am using HyperDroid-Androidmeda-v2.8.7 and users reported it happening with Criskelo's ROM and Pulser's ROM as well. So far, 5 reports were collected.
A strange behavior I've noticed is that following a restart, while the storages are being scanned, I was able to briefly access the list. After 2 seconds, it refreshes into the blank again. Being not the only one with this issue, I'd deduct it's not device-specific.
I'd be glad to provide more details, and appreciate any input on this issue.
Check which gmail account the market is linked to, if you are using more than 1 account.

I only use one account, always. Forgot to mention
Also, the website (market.android.com) is fine and functioning, displaying all of my apps. The problem is... I can't check for updates now.

I have the same issue since last night. I even restored a nandroid backup (when I didn't have that issue) and problem perssisted. I am using Criskelo v75 ROM. I was told by Android Market "support" that there is nothing to do since I don't have the stock ROM (but problem is in the cloud: it is a Google problem!). So I will flash the stock ROM and I will send the screenshots to that support guy, he will work then or he will say "I don't wanna work so I will do like in your last message: nothing at all"...

I believe the same. It can't be rom-related, because users of different roms report this. I see that too many users face this...

Ok, maybe is a problem with the current account because I did full wipe (dalvik cache, cache and data), I installed one app from Market and... this app (and other integrated in the ROM appeared in "My apps"!!!! :O. I restored my nandroid backup but problem perssisted. I will unlink my Google account from my phone and I will link it again: maybe this is the solution.

Had no doubt that a full wipe will solve this, but the trick is pinpointing the actual problem...
Currently I am uninstalling everything (all user apps) from my device using the batch option in TB. I'll keep you posted!
EDIT:
It obviously helped. Uninstalling everything, then redownloading almost anything I had on my device. Currently I am downloading, this will be followed by restoring the data using TB. I have a long evening ahead of me
I'll try to pinpoint the exact app/place the error takes place.
I have had exactly the same problem, and over the last two days have tried absolutely every possible solution. I have tried three different market versions, wiping cache, data, uninstalling apps, restoring previously working back ups, The closest I came to a fix was to delete all back ups in Titanium back up, then factory reset, wipe cache, and dalvik, in Cwm, then reboot and re sign into Google account installing all my apps through the now working market.
However on doing another back up in TB and checking the market again I have the same message in "my apps " applications and games owned by this account will appear here soon!,
They never do! I am currently running latest Cyanogen nightly with latest Siyah kernel, I have also tried with cyan kernel.
Searching around on Google this does appear to be a problem for many other android users, and I suspect the fault lies with Google, However any possible solutions would be appreciated, This has took over my life for two days!
It happens to me too. In fact i've seen that i have several accounts bounded to the market (menu >> accounts) and one has no applications ! check this and select all accounts...

Don't know if this will work as I have never had the issue, but have you tried any of the market enabler hacks / apps?
Might be worth a try?

I eventually solved it by deleting everything I had, redownloading everything again and restoring the data manually. Wasted evening

Had any apps that weren't installed from the market? E.g. manual APK installation, linked apps from Amazon Appstore, apps from alternative markets and such. Maybe it was triggered by a specific app...
Same problem, I think its related to the new market.

Yes I do have apps from other markets, but I have "fixed this" once by wiping all data,re signing into market, restoring market apps there, then restoring all remaining other apps through TB, at this point market and My apps was working okay, However on creating a new back up in TB this problem re occurred.
As a footnote updates can be found and performed via the market, using Appbrain. I am at the point I have tried all possible solutions and firmly believe the fault lies with Google.
my issue was slightly different. I have 72 apps installed but in Market only 30 of them where visible since yesterday and one app (Antutu) shown to be updated - but even the update for antutu was not possible. Therefore I uninstalled Antutu und installed it again and surprising in the Market are now all 72 apps visible again.
So it seems some apps which have to be updatet brake the Market and do not show the app list or just partially.

I uninstalled 92 apps: I can't write by hand all those apps here! hahaha. But I will answer your questions: I had (and I still have some) manual APKs installations, I haven't ever had any app from a different Market. I had Market apps too.
A guy in a spanish forum (http://www.htcmania.com/showthread.php?p=3098961 (I started that thread) told that it happens with no official ROMs for the device and/or different DPI. I mean: if you have an HTC Legend with Cyanogenmod 7 your phone will be identified as a Nexus (I think), but your Legend DPI is lower than the Nexus DPI. Google ban those devices in the Market. But it doesn't make sese since I haven't installed a different ROM or changing the DPI in my Samsung Galaxy S!!!!
I hope this helps.
PS: all the affected users should write to Google in order to open a ticket and force them to work on it, instead of claiming about it in forums as I did hahaha (but I wrote to Google too )
This is now widely reported for all Android devices, and has an open issue on the Android Market Forum. Google is "aware and working on it".
For those who got their list back, don't be surprised if it goes away again, and don't fight with it - it's not you, it's them
Your market web library should still list all your apps, and I'm using AppBrain to get update notifications until they get it figured out.

Market "My Apps" empty

Having this issue for more than a month, nothing helps to fix it(
Does anybody can help?
Here is a theme of this bug, seems that there is no solution : droidforums.net/forum/tech-issues-bug-reports-suggestions/180412-android-market-my-apps-blank-16.html
Neither this fix doesnt work. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1019613
Tried several times, but market changes the file to initial version.
Any clue for fixing it?
If you haven't already, clear the Market app cache and updates, under settings/applications/manage apps. Do the same with Download Manager, Downloads, and Market Updater. Also try cycling the Notify for Updates option in Market settings. This happens on occasion to me as well, sometimes if fixes itself, somtimes not.
You can also try Titanium Backup's Fix Market feature, can't say if this works or not. Otherwise, you can track your app updates via AppBrain, or aTrackDog

People from the thread in the first post have flashed stock and nothing happened. I've been using CM7 when got this issue, now I run MIUI, and only few apps appeared in My apps after first rom boot, but after reboot or even earlier the list become empty again..
Seems that it is Google fault, obviously. People got this on different devices and firmwares, under different circumstances. Though they report that same account works on other devices, but nothing helps to get it work on initail device. May be google stores imei or other info about phone, but I think this is unlikely
Excuse me, I dont understand - Are You lost your market data on one device or on any device?
Are you try see it on other device with same google account? And what are the results?

Seems that google doesnt hurry about solving this annoying mess. Really tired of using appbrain to update my apps. on droidfourms there are people who have "lost" their second accounts already... really a fu**ing disaster
Same here!!!! Market my apps list blank
hey ppl even i m facing the same issue...bt when i return back on ma stock rom it shows me da list....as soon as i restore ma apps wid titanium on a new rom da market list is again empty...oderwse da issue is not solved yet...i think itzz google'z fault!!!! anybody facing this type of prob??? or any suggestions???
same issue
I'm having the same issue, but I also can't download any apparently from the market. Market errors on download without even trying to download. Market was working fine until i switched ROM. I've switched to 4 different ROMs on my LG G2X and had same issue on all. I can't download free or paid apps.
I might have stumbled upon a fix tonight I used rom tool box to attach my apps to market then I used the fix permissions tab and bam I had apps under "my apps" which I haven't had in well over a month

I have got my apps to show up after changing rom, but only for a short time. I installed some of my apps and they showed up, but after reinstalling all app they were gone again. I have a feeling that either google doesn't like to show largevnumber of apps(300+ at one time) or it doesn't like a specific app. Oh well, I can still update through appbrain app market.

No data or wifi connection

I'll try to keep this brief.
My wife and I both have stock standard HTC Aria's running Android 2.2. A few days ago my wife complained that her battery was discharging really fast. Then a day later mine started doing the same thing.Going flat in a few hours of standby. Normally at the end of the day they would both still have 8 out or ten bars still lit. I turned off wifi, mobile and bluetooth on both phones and that seemed to fix the battery problem.
Now when I turn on wifi or 3g I cant connect at all. My wifi router shows up in settings but it constantly is scanning-connecting-disconnecting. Also cant connect to 3g.
I have tried another sim card but the problem is the same.
As I said, these phone aren't rooted in any way. Have very few apps. Basically used as a phone.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Maybe you can try a new battery. Or, if you still have warranty, give it back to service.

Just did a factory reset and everything seems ok.
Just one other problem: When I log in to google play it is showing that I have 2 apps installed (airdroid and astro) These are no longer on my phone but google doesn't want to believe that. I've tried to trash them and tried installing them but nothing happens. It just says "These apps will be un/installed shortly"
Any thoughts?
Thanks

You may have already tried this, but maybe a reboot would do the trick. If rebooting doesn't help, you can use a file manager to take a look into Data>Apps or System>Apps and see if you can find their .apk files there and delete them. If you aren't rooted, you won't be able to delete them, and I'm not sure what you should do if that happens. If they aren't there, then it's probably just a graphical glitch and is showing what really isn't there.
EDIT: Sorry, I read your post wrong. Go into the app details of Google Play Store and select both clear data and clear cache, and that should solve the problem. If not, try rebooting.

Oh my bad, I wasn't really clear about that. It's actually in your phone settings, not the settings in the Play Store.
So you open up Play Store in 'Manage Applications' as if you were trying to uninstall it. In that menu, you'll see options like Force Stop/Disable. Scroll down, and you'll see the 'Clear data' and 'Clear cache' options, and there ya go. I hope I explained it well.

The apps that I mentioned; Airdroid, Astro, google play etc are showing as being installed on the google play web site. These apps are no longer on my phone after I did the factory reset. Therefore I have no way to reinstall the apps as google play is telling me they are already installed.

You don't have the Play Store installed on your phone? If that's the case, you need to search up on google to find the apk file for it. Once you do that, you should be able to install the other apps you've mentioned.

Yep, the Android Market was renamed to the Google Play Store.
It'll eventually update automatically on your phone and change back to the Play Store

Google Play and Youtube app stopped working

For some reason Play store and Youtube app cant access the net. Says problems with network, but there are none.
I have 2 more android devices and 2 pcs running off the same network and all work just fine.
Also, may be related, browser started dropping error popup saying something about certificates. Can continue but most pages drop this multiple times and its annoying as hell.

Make sure that the date and time are setup correctly in the settings.
Make sure that auto synchronization with network for data&time is turned off too.

Yeah, it was the date/time thing, noticed it yesterday right after posting here, digging thru settings just for kicks...
Why does incorrect date mess up things so bad ?

One word. Certificates.
For some reason ssl(https) requires certificates that are considered expired (out of data\use\order) when the time on them is incorrect.
If your time is off y at least a day and a half you will have these issues.

If the time and date thing is not the issue for you then go ahead and do the 'ole clear the data, cache, and force stop for google services framework, google play store, and google play services.
Set the time in the settings again.
Check connectivity then you should be good to go.
If not then go and flash a generic gapps package for your android version from here http://goo.im/gapps
(^This is the basic ritual for all gapps problems)

Can I stop my phone automatically installing apps?

Got a no mark S4 clone on 4.2, perfectly happy with it, got CWM and a new rom on it, its fine.
I have exposed and boot manager and once a day it has its icon telling me 'google play services' has auto installed, and every other day an app called 'recents' with a sort of C:\ terminal icon. Now, neither of these I want, I've deleted them so, SO many times, selected 'dont auto update' and also 'dont notify' from within google play, set my firewall to block anything google when on 4g etc...
Is there ANY way to stop it installing stuff I dont need?

Is there ANY way to stop it installing stuff I dont need?

The only way is to build a new aosp rom for your device. My advise is remember that you get what you pay for and clones never really have any of the hardware they claim they do. I think you will find you are better off ditching the device and buying a new one.

That doesnt actually help me at all.
The phone is fine, no issue with it. Has a new rom on it, specs were as described, its a problem with google, and the play store auto installing, it did this on my old S2 and my galaxy tab stock, so its not the hardware.
There must be a way to stop the play store doing this apart from uninstalling the play store as I am currently doing.

Then that will lead me to think it is one of the apps you have installed. Some shady apps like CCleaner will install other apps. I would wipe the device completely and then install your apps one by one until you find the issue.
