So while this behaviour is pretty rare it still happens to me ebry once in a while. My browser suddenly redirect from for example google to a porn site. If I press back I cant find any link to the site so I couldn't have clicked it myself. All my apps come from the appstore and I'm on the stock rom etc etc. Why is this and how can I prevent it?

That's exactly the excuse I use when I'm caught watching porn.

I noticed that too on my un-jailbreaked iPad. I would suspect some resident XSS/javascript. Especially since the ipad is a closed/protected environment.
Funny thing is that it happened to me twice while browsing the forbes website which I would consider super serious
I cleaned all the cookies and stuff and seems to be gone since then...
PS: If someone knows more details regarding this attack and technical details I would be very interested. The fact that it even affects the iPad is fun
Use a more secure browser like Firefox and install AdFree.

I don't think any other post on XDA has made me crack up quite so much! Absolutely brilliant!!!!
Im trying to find a problem in this. More to the point though, are they any good?
I dont even think this is a galaxy s3 - only problem. I got this **** on my galaxy s1, now some times on my galaxy s3, when I was trying to visit xda devs homepage. I was so ****ing upset @@
And dont come with the "If you know what I mean" meme, this isnt ****in funny guys, thats just freaky annoying. If I'm searching for some useful stuff for my phone, suddenly there is a stupid relink to a site like "uporn" or some ****, I could smash my phone against the wall.
So, this is more or less a major problem on the android community, and I think, on iOS there is the same problem, especially on jailbroken devices.
hopefully someone can find the problem
btw I had this problem, when I was on my rooted ICS-Galaxy s1 and on my actually rooted s3 -.-'' Dont know if it has something to do with it, but I dont hope so. :S
I saw "porn" on the title and ended up here..... don't know why...
Does the problem occur only under 3G(4G w/e)? Or also under wifi?
Try deleting under your APN settings the proxy for your provider.... might be some prank been played to your Provider :silly:
Or maybe a weird app you installed "changed something" on your "hosts" files...
It comes on 3G and Wifi on my phone (at least the SGS1, the s3 had this problem only a few times )
And this really cant be that the providers could do this ****, if yes, I would sue the **** out if them and get a pay-free contract for life.
I'd say you downloaded an app that has installed another app on your phone that sends spam.
Try removing all your downloaded apps then use the phone for a week if it doesn't happen then you know its an app, if it does happen then you know its a site.
I use chrome and dont get this issue.
Also just because an app is in the app store does not mean it is safe, I always Google the app before I install it . Also apps that I'm really not sure about I download onto my computer the I scan for virus then I send via email to my phone.
Another thing it may be is if you have you chrome desktop bookmarks synced then it could be coming from the desktop sync.
Check your homepage on your PC and your home page on your phone make sure it is Google not captain stab in

Quite possibly someone on your network is using a network spoofer and redirecting your phone to those sites. Or you downloaded an app that's doing it. Remove any fishy/unnecessary apps and reset/check your hosts file

Hi I bought the Skyrocket yesterday and installed all the app's I had in previous phones. It doesn't let you download torrents, streaming and people having problems with blackmart or other non legal apps. AT&T checking what sites you connect to and stops. I never had this problem with any phone I had almost 10 android phone.

I can't stand using torrents however.
Its not that you can't install apps. U just can't use some apps that download torrents or I don't know what else? Why is it hard to believe? Apparently it's not a common file in the system so that means only YOUR daughter has it in her Vibrant. I mean it could be a left over porn file that was deleted, it could be a left over app file from an app that was deleted. Just Google it and do some research instead of having other people do the work for you. Developers have more "important" things to do than look into a useless file in your daughters phone system.

Listen, I apologize for not only myself laughing at your question but also the negative responses and little help you've received on your topic in general. Seeing that you've only posted 6 times, all of them being in this thread, the members of XDA must look pretty mean. However, I can assure you that XDA is a very helpful place. It's just that a file called "DirtyFriend0" is pretty kinky sounding...
I searched the web for quite some time to find out the origin of this file and only came up with one result seen here. Which is what I'm guessing is what you mentioned earlier by the other "guy asking about the same thing but no replies." I'm sure the file isn't causing any issues and I would suggest you just leave it. Still if you feel that you must, deleting it probably wouldn't cause any issues either. It's your choice.
Hope you don't hold a grudge against the members of this forum. These guys are really helpful! Its just that the file in question has a pretty odd name that was just asking to be made fun of...
The title says it all... I couldn't find information about it anywhere. Yesterday I was looking at some sweet live wallpapers on the market and suddenly I found a good one... But I had to buy the full version to customize it so I searched on google for the apk, found one, installed it... After installing I realised there was 2 new internet shortcuts on my home screen .. Now this morning, I got this notification, "Grab your iPad3", is that a virus? How do I get rid of this b.s?
Any help is more than appreciated

I had something similar happen to me on my Thrive a while back. Turned it an app I installed piggy backed an add thing onto my device. Not sure if that is exactly what is happening to you but try out this app. It will tell you if an app uses a few specific app frameworks that may be responsible so you can remove the offending apps. Best of luck!

Yup, same with Lookout. However, you can disable the "virus checker" and just leave the phone recovery portion installed.

Don't input your password there, whatsoever,
It'll probably steal it.
Check your system/app for unknown apps.
It's a stock blur rom on a droid 4. 90% of the apps are unknown to me lol. Anything more specific?

Sorted it by date, nothing newer than april 12, which seems about the time i did a system update.

I've seen this a couple times today, and so have a few others in the forums. It definitely doesn't seem device/ROM specific. I was thinking the same thing: "hope I'm not being hacked" lol.
This reminds me of a month or two ago, when I got a popup saying someone suspicious had tried to access my Google acct., but Google denied the login. That was different tho, because I myself was locked out of my acct. until I logged in on a pc and sorted it out/changed my password.

Moving to Q&A
I would install pdroidand try to determine which app is asking for the password.
From there you should be able to determine whether it's legit or not.
I also recommend you install Droid Wall and see if any rogue app is trying to connect out to the internet.
I can't post any links yet but both are available from Play Store.
From pdroid's thread at xda:
" Will only work with deodexed ROMs (take a look into your ROM's system/framework directory; if there are any *.odex files, your ROM is NOT deodexed)"
And apparently the stock rom on droid 4 is not deodexed.
It's a shame though, pdroid looks fantastic. I'll give droidwall a spin and see what i find. I haven't got any notifications since last night though.
Sent from my DROID4 using xda app-developers app
Too bad.
Give Droidwall a spin and see if you notice any suspicious connections. At least that should help you narrow down the list of potential suspect apps.
If you have the time and inclination I would flash another ROM and install Pdroid too. This is specially true if privacy is a big concern for you.
Good luck.

If I recall correctly you can push plan b to your phone from the play website and it'll fire up and trace your phone. This of course depends on if your phone is still linked to your play account.
