Have I caught a virus? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

The title says it all... I couldn't find information about it anywhere. Yesterday I was looking at some sweet live wallpapers on the market and suddenly I found a good one... But I had to buy the full version to customize it so I searched on google for the apk, found one, installed it... After installing I realised there was 2 new internet shortcuts on my home screen .. Now this morning, I got this notification, "Grab your iPad3", is that a virus? How do I get rid of this b.s?
Any help is more than appreciated

That's actually a specific type of ad. They use the notification bar. I would uninstall personally.

I had something similar happen to me on my Thrive a while back. Turned it an app I installed piggy backed an add thing onto my device. Not sure if that is exactly what is happening to you but try out this app. It will tell you if an app uses a few specific app frameworks that may be responsible so you can remove the offending apps. Best of luck!

Which apk did you install? One similar or a cracked version of a paid app?

No problemos and same here, google should ban those apps from the market!

You could also install avast... I have been using it since it came out. Realtime protection... doesnt do much but run always, but you'll know when it does get something.

id never use any app that uses airpush. rather buy a paid version. do people really think we'd like to be notified every 5 minutes that we've won an iPad, or that we'd like their app even more?

Not trying to bash or flame but anti viruses are useless to android phones
Only good thing that they do and that's if it comes with the feature is track down your phone if its stolen
But like I said they're useless

Yup, same with Lookout. However, you can disable the "virus checker" and just leave the phone recovery portion installed.

This is what happens when you pirate apps. XDA doesnt condone the use of pirated apps nor does it support the use of them.

Best Bit torrent app?

Ive been looking for a bit torrent app that doesn't require having it on my laptop or signing up with a login. What's everyone using? So far I'm thinking of buying the bittorrent client by new freedom apps its 4.99 so what's the best.
I would download movies and tv shows maybe some mp3 files mostly over wifi and hopefully doesn't seed from other users phones just servers. Cause I don't want my phone getting seeded..... Any ideas ?

Anyone used AndTor?
Swarm is the best BT client on Android EVER, because it actually works well, and the developer is great.
I use Torrent-fu but you could always just get LogMeIn and have full access to your server and can add and remove torrents or really anything else that way. Works great.
Apologies... after reading the OP again this solution will not work for what you are trying to accomplish.

Do any of these torrent apps support magnet links and if so can you delete the tracker from the link before you start d/ling? Or better yet can you just add the links to the app manually? cause then i can delete the tracker for sure. Man this would be awesome.

A. It was free on launch day a couple of days ago.
B. Asking for someone to provide an apk for a paid app is verboten.
C. You can buy it for 99 cents (as was said)
D. This should have been posted in Apps and Themes subforum.

Sounds like something went wrong with your install the first time around. I got my free copy when it was still available and I noticed that I continue to see it as a "free" app even though it is no longer available as such.
I'm not sure anyone here is allowed to send you the apk though since it is now a paid app. I would see what options you can pursue via amazon, customer service or w/e.

You.have to setup up one click for amazon. It was free, im assuming that the section your seeing it as free in, is top downloads. Mainly because when it was free it topped the charts and so far nothing has.beat it.
I think that's a little stupid on amazons part. This is just what I think.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
This is no longer a free app, and therefore asking for it is considered as asking for warez.
Thread closed.
Edit: We have had a few people comment this is still free, this is how we view it..
Linking to the app store is fine - any links to the apk itself are considered warez since its only free to users in the US and only for a brief time.
I hope this clears things up.

I believe you have to agree to allow them to send the ads though. So, there must be something in the apps that you can uncheck(kinda like computer programs that want to install toolbars).

I had ads that would pop up in the notification panel as well. Sure enough I had this very program, once I uninstalled I haven't had an ad.
Those ads come from that mp3 music download app that you have in your notification bar.

If you guys decide to use that app again, check in its settings and see if you have the ability to uncheck ads, or something. I am fairly certain they can't just push ads to your phone without you "agreeing" to it. Otherwise I would report the app to Google as malicious. Then, at least to stay on the market it would have to give you the option.
Download "airblock" from the market and it won't happen again no matter what crapware you install.

Unfortunately, this has nothing to do with Google, who could care less about piracy. But, in order to make a deal with Hollywood, they had to add in some sort of Copy Protection. Since Hollywood has hackers too, one of the restrictions was to not put the movies on rooted devices.
Similar thing was happening with Netflix on Android and continues to happen with Netflix on Linux. The movie moguls refuse to allow their movies to hit these devices if there is even a chance that the stream will be recorded and pirated.
