A dumb app. I get those to. But removed the suspicious apps that might have caused the popup adds. As soon as you remove the apps that might be causing this you wont get them anymore.

It's an ad, usually from a warez app or you put your phone number out on the internet for some free smileys..

Get AirPush Detector from market, it will show which app is causing that notification. Mine was mp3 search app.

text "block (number)" to 9999 and you won't get messages from them anymore. This is what I do any time I get a retarded message/someone from across the world decides to message me for no reason

Well according to another post i read here recently about same issue..
its on 2.2.1 roms, and its a known bug i guess...
so idk how i can help fix that, sorry.
That's completely different. On the 2.2.1 roms if you use Visual Voicemail you will get a text message after you receive a voicemail. I'm not sure what your getting but maybe try reflashing the rom and see if that clears it up. How often are you getting them?
task manager showing an app running? Can you determine if its coming from a certain app? Can you click on the notification? Tried with a white notifcation pull down? installed any unusual app recently? This is not 2.2.1 related...
I'm not on a 2.2.1 rom. Its stock kb1 with themed framework. I'm thinking its an app as well but nothing running. Twice a day they come over. At first I thought it might be a virus or something but maybe ill just wipe and reflash

I'm no expert but it almost has to be a malicious app of some sort from the sounds of it. Audit the apps you have installed, check and make sure there aren't random wallpaper/games/battery boost apps that have permissions to send and receive texts.

You downloaded an app that uses airpush ads.. you have to download an app called "airpush detector" or something along those lines to find which app is pushing you ads like this.

I believe you have to agree to allow them to send the ads though. So, there must be something in the apps that you can uncheck(kinda like computer programs that want to install toolbars).
I had the same mp3 app and I also got the adds. Like everyone else said, get rid of that app and you'll be fine

I had ads that would pop up in the notification panel as well. Sure enough I had this very program, once I uninstalled I haven't had an ad.
Those ads come from that mp3 music download app that you have in your notification bar.

If you guys decide to use that app again, check in its settings and see if you have the ability to uncheck ads, or something. I am fairly certain they can't just push ads to your phone without you "agreeing" to it. Otherwise I would report the app to Google as malicious. Then, at least to stay on the market it would have to give you the option.
Download "airblock" from the market and it won't happen again no matter what crapware you install.

The title says it all... I couldn't find information about it anywhere. Yesterday I was looking at some sweet live wallpapers on the market and suddenly I found a good one... But I had to buy the full version to customize it so I searched on google for the apk, found one, installed it... After installing I realised there was 2 new internet shortcuts on my home screen .. Now this morning, I got this notification, "Grab your iPad3", is that a virus? How do I get rid of this b.s?
Any help is more than appreciated

I had something similar happen to me on my Thrive a while back. Turned it an app I installed piggy backed an add thing onto my device. Not sure if that is exactly what is happening to you but try out this app. It will tell you if an app uses a few specific app frameworks that may be responsible so you can remove the offending apps. Best of luck!
Which apk did you install? One similar or a cracked version of a paid app?

You could also install avast... I have been using it since it came out. Realtime protection... doesnt do much but run always, but you'll know when it does get something.
id never use any app that uses airpush. rather buy a paid version. do people really think we'd like to be notified every 5 minutes that we've won an iPad, or that we'd like their app even more?

Yup, same with Lookout. However, you can disable the "virus checker" and just leave the phone recovery portion installed.

This is what happens when you pirate apps. XDA doesnt condone the use of pirated apps nor does it support the use of them.

Everyone is right, this is a new type of alert that the FCC is starting to use across the nation. It is supposed to alert you of anything that may harm a population.
To turn it off, go to your stock messaging app. Go into settings, and scroll all the way to the bottom. Click "Emergency Alerts" and uncheck any that you don't want. The only alert you cannot opt of is the Presidential Alert. Also, you do NOT get charged for anything.
Also, does anyone know if you will still get this alert if you do not use the stock messaging app? I'm using goSMS.
I have gotten the alert twice in the last week, once while driving in a severe thunderstorm in Connecticut and the second time today during a severe thunderstorm in New Jersey.
Both times the alert was for a Flash Flood Warning. Are these the only ones currently going out? I actually wouldn't mind alerts for Severe Thunderstorms, but I have not seen any.
Also, you will still get the messages in GoSMS. They show up as coming from "#CMAS#Severe".
Thank you!
The FCC has said about the alerts is that you will get an alert for:
1. Alerts issued by the President
2. Alerts involving imminent threats to safety or life
3. Amber Alerts
I think severe thunderstorm warnings would at least be covered - I'm not sure about watches though. From what the FCC said, it makes it seem that they warnings would at least be covered, since severe thunderstorms can definitely pose "imminent threats to safety or life."
Hey guys. Hope u can help me. I started getting notifications for other apps. Its pretty annoying and although my phone seems to be running completely normal it bugs me and seems like some sort of virus. I'm sure its not, but I want to get rid of it. I have tried web root virus scans and my phone has no problems. It notifies me about twice a day. Here is a screenshot to show u guys what it looks like.

But the people above told you the solution
this is one reason i love MIUI. if any app tries to make an outside connection it alerts you and gives you an option to accept or deny the connection one time or there on after.
fyi shazam wants to know your gps location twice a day whether you use it or not
Thanks guys! Unfortunately the app couldn't find the problem but I did choose the option to email the list of apps to the developer to see if he can find the problem. I will update u guys when I find out which app is causing this.

I know for a fact the beats by dre from the android market that requires root cause spam. And plus it installs apps that you didn't download. I have both avast and lookout on my i717. I suggest them both and run virus scans on both sd.cards as well as apps. Things you lest suspect to cause issues throws up flags. What ever it says delete i would as a precautionary measure. Be warned superuser throws a flag sometimes. That would be the only one id leave along.let me know if that helps.good luck.
Ps if all else fails i hate to say it but factory restore is the sure way to fix it.

Have you tried using TrustGo Security? Best anti-push/mobile security app that I've used so far (I've used Avast, Lookout, and Airpush Detector). And it fixed a lot of problems that I had with Airpush/Leadbolt supported apps.
Just a suggestion, before you consider wiping and starting over.
Either way, best of luck with fixing the problem, as there's a lot of apps out there with spam crap in them. Just have to be careful. =P
