Go to your message app then settings. You'll find it in emergency alerts I believe. Turn them on or off there.

Everyone is right, this is a new type of alert that the FCC is starting to use across the nation. It is supposed to alert you of anything that may harm a population.
To turn it off, go to your stock messaging app. Go into settings, and scroll all the way to the bottom. Click "Emergency Alerts" and uncheck any that you don't want. The only alert you cannot opt of is the Presidential Alert. Also, you do NOT get charged for anything.
Also, does anyone know if you will still get this alert if you do not use the stock messaging app? I'm using goSMS.
I have gotten the alert twice in the last week, once while driving in a severe thunderstorm in Connecticut and the second time today during a severe thunderstorm in New Jersey.
Both times the alert was for a Flash Flood Warning. Are these the only ones currently going out? I actually wouldn't mind alerts for Severe Thunderstorms, but I have not seen any.
Also, you will still get the messages in GoSMS. They show up as coming from "#CMAS#Severe".
Thank you!
The FCC has said about the alerts is that you will get an alert for:
1. Alerts issued by the President
2. Alerts involving imminent threats to safety or life
3. Amber Alerts
I think severe thunderstorm warnings would at least be covered - I'm not sure about watches though. From what the FCC said, it makes it seem that they warnings would at least be covered, since severe thunderstorms can definitely pose "imminent threats to safety or life."

Can anyone help me out, I don't know what this is or how to stop from getting them? Searched couldn't find anything. Thanks
Appears to be some sort of spam, but I don't know where it's coming from as it doesn't show anywhere but in notification and in the drop down. Keep getting them...

Well according to another post i read here recently about same issue..
its on 2.2.1 roms, and its a known bug i guess...
so idk how i can help fix that, sorry.
That's completely different. On the 2.2.1 roms if you use Visual Voicemail you will get a text message after you receive a voicemail. I'm not sure what your getting but maybe try reflashing the rom and see if that clears it up. How often are you getting them?
task manager showing an app running? Can you determine if its coming from a certain app? Can you click on the notification? Tried with a white notifcation pull down? installed any unusual app recently? This is not 2.2.1 related...
I'm not on a 2.2.1 rom. Its stock kb1 with themed framework. I'm thinking its an app as well but nothing running. Twice a day they come over. At first I thought it might be a virus or something but maybe ill just wipe and reflash

I'm no expert but it almost has to be a malicious app of some sort from the sounds of it. Audit the apps you have installed, check and make sure there aren't random wallpaper/games/battery boost apps that have permissions to send and receive texts.

Happened to me tonight for flash flooding and a severe thunderstorm. Mine and my wife's phone got them and we were together. Made for quite the racket. lol
Still, as I said earlier it's important info so I keep it on.
Besides, I'm a firefighter/paramedic. It lets me know when I'm going to get busy.

Heh. I think I got 8 or 9 alerts yesterday for flash flooding and thunderstorms but I've not seen a drop of rain in the past 48 hours. Anyways, I turned off severe alerts but left extreme and amber alerts on. Plus, I was wondering why I couldn't turn off "Presidential Alerts" and here's why:

You can delete the sounds from /system/media/somefolder
I forget the folder name (might be mms) but there are a few audio files you can delete if you want the alerts but want them silent.

It has to do with Photoshop. Only occurs when it's loading. Could be the syncing process with Gallery or even Photoshop Cloud. Who knows...

Android spyware?
A friend started getting spammy notifications and discovered that one of his apps was pushing random advertising notifications into his drop down notifications.
In your case it might be the same, but if you are running ad blocking they might not be getting through properly.
Personally id reflash or reset the phone.

Lately my phone has been dropping signal for no reason. I don't get a blank signal bar I get a circle with a line thru it somewhat like a circle stop sign. Had sim card replaced and issue still remains. Wondering if it is a sim card holder issue. Anyone else heard of an issue like that?

Not a sim card or holder issue. It would give a written error above the softkeys asking you to insert a sim, and there would be a sim card icon at the top left.
That symbol usually means a bad APN setting or you entered a dead zone.
Don't quote, reply. If you quote, edit.

The antenna module (wifi, gprs, data, gps) has been known to become dislodged after a good fall. Its next to the power button. Perhaps try to squeeze it in? I know its a longshot, but a few xda members were able to regain the signal after trying that.
