App advertising in notification bar - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Hey guys. Hope u can help me. I started getting notifications for other apps. Its pretty annoying and although my phone seems to be running completely normal it bugs me and seems like some sort of virus. I'm sure its not, but I want to get rid of it. I have tried web root virus scans and my phone has no problems. It notifies me about twice a day. Here is a screenshot to show u guys what it looks like.

Go to play store and download air push detector. Will tell you which one is the spammer.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app

It's called airpush, it comes from some apps, if your rooted airblocker will fix it, if not I think you can use it to see what app is causing it

Did you download some wallpaper?
But the people above told you the solution

this is one reason i love MIUI. if any app tries to make an outside connection it alerts you and gives you an option to accept or deny the connection one time or there on after.
fyi shazam wants to know your gps location twice a day whether you use it or not

Thanks guys! Unfortunately the app couldn't find the problem but I did choose the option to email the list of apps to the developer to see if he can find the problem. I will update u guys when I find out which app is causing this.

I know for a fact the beats by dre from the android market that requires root cause spam. And plus it installs apps that you didn't download. I have both avast and lookout on my i717. I suggest them both and run virus scans on both sd.cards as well as apps. Things you lest suspect to cause issues throws up flags. What ever it says delete i would as a precautionary measure. Be warned superuser throws a flag sometimes. That would be the only one id leave along.let me know if that helps.good luck.
Ps if all else fails i hate to say it but factory restore is the sure way to fix it.

Have you tried using TrustGo Security? Best anti-push/mobile security app that I've used so far (I've used Avast, Lookout, and Airpush Detector). And it fixed a lot of problems that I had with Airpush/Leadbolt supported apps.
Just a suggestion, before you consider wiping and starting over.
Either way, best of luck with fixing the problem, as there's a lot of apps out there with spam crap in them. Just have to be careful. =P

please help...getting strange spam messages notifications

Can anyone help me out, I don't know what this is or how to stop from getting them? Searched couldn't find anything. Thanks
Appears to be some sort of spam, but I don't know where it's coming from as it doesn't show anywhere but in notification and in the drop down. Keep getting them...
The blue star and strange message doesn't show in text or email

Well according to another post i read here recently about same issue..
its on 2.2.1 roms, and its a known bug i guess...
so idk how i can help fix that, sorry.
That's completely different. On the 2.2.1 roms if you use Visual Voicemail you will get a text message after you receive a voicemail. I'm not sure what your getting but maybe try reflashing the rom and see if that clears it up. How often are you getting them?
task manager showing an app running? Can you determine if its coming from a certain app? Can you click on the notification? Tried with a white notifcation pull down? installed any unusual app recently? This is not 2.2.1 related...
I'm not on a 2.2.1 rom. Its stock kb1 with themed framework. I'm thinking its an app as well but nothing running. Twice a day they come over. At first I thought it might be a virus or something but maybe ill just wipe and reflash

I'm no expert but it almost has to be a malicious app of some sort from the sounds of it. Audit the apps you have installed, check and make sure there aren't random wallpaper/games/battery boost apps that have permissions to send and receive texts.

Watchdog is an app that notifies you when something is running, taking a hunk of available received, may be an easy solution.

Smart Actions App

Found the APK. Seems small for an app and does not install. I havent tried to push it with adb. Anyone wanna try and get this to work on the Bionic?
I'm also interested in this also. I will try a few things on my side. OP I will report back.

that's a really clever app..can't wait to try that out!
When I went to install this on the DX2 using droid explorer, I saw it required 2.3.5 Android. Bout to upgrade to that one and see what happens

Didn't work on 2.3.5 leak for the DX2. I'll have to try to install it again using Droid Explorer to get the permissions list again
Didnt work on stock rooted 2.3.5 either. I permission is important info we will need. Im going try it on a WIP PORT ROM of Droid X.

I doubt it will work on anything except the Razr... MAYBE the Bionic
Doesn't work on rooted bionic either, confirmed.
There is probably some other files needed other than just the apk.
probably because it needs more than just the apk to work, Ill look through my razr and see if there is anything you need
Would love to get this app on my Galaxy Nexus when I get one!
Anyone currently working to port this app still?
Honestly... i have the razr and obviously it came with smart actions.... if you are really wanting to make your phone a Smart Phone... get Tasker.... way more sophisticated and a thousand times more customizable than smart actions... although it will take a bit to get use to.... but the sky and your imagination is the limit to what you can do with tasker.... Good luck
Smart Actions likely has libraries associated with it. if not also integrated with framework
Smart Action App Bug
I use smart action app to change my wallpaper when i go home, and everytime I revert to my original wallpaper, it is degraded. Each time it gets worse. Not sure if this happens with launchers other than Go Launcher. I'll post 3 screen shots. Original Wallpaper, one after 5 smart action app changes, and one after 10 smart action app changes. File size also jumps significantly.

A dumb app. I get those to. But removed the suspicious apps that might have caused the popup adds. As soon as you remove the apps that might be causing this you wont get them anymore.

It's an ad, usually from a warez app or you put your phone number out on the internet for some free smileys..

text "block (number)" to 9999 and you won't get messages from them anymore. This is what I do any time I get a retarded message/someone from across the world decides to message me for no reason
awkward moment when your android phone is telling you to claim an apple product..

Xda notifications

On my previous phone I would get a brown Xda box appear in the notifications bar when someone would post on my thread etc however since getting my gs3 I haven't noticed that happen . Do I need to enable it etc or how do I get it.
thanks

have you enabled notifications?
never thought to actually chek but then i didnt ever enable it on my last phone.
Having just checked i can see the 'receive notification' box is ticked however not seen it show in bar yet, ill give it an hour and see
still not getting any notifications, boxes are ticked and its marked to check every 30mins
any ideas?
im sure you havent ticked this..just asking.is silent mode ticked? if not all that i can think of is a reinstall..im using gt-i9300 and i get notifications from the posts that i have subscribed to..

Ok sky I have checked again and all the notifications settings seem to be right.
It's set to check ever 15mins, silent mode not ticked.
Is it because I am using stock jellybean Rom?
Also using Xda premium if that matters
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
it wont be a problem with the application..premium is always better..
it has to be the jellybean rom..it has quite a lot of bugs.
well ive now gone back to the stock rom (latest release) and still not getting them
just to be clear, i should be getting a notification in the notification bar when someone either messages me or posts on a thread i have created or have commented on right?
Is there something on the main site when i log in from my computer that i need to change? do i need to be logged out from my computer to get these?
what i mean is if i computer browser is set to log me in when i go onto the site (log me straight in / remember me) is this the problem?
I have them when either someone replies to a subscribed thread or when I receive pm. Are the threads in question subscribed threads?

Have I been hacked?

Hi people today I updated an icon pack app from the play store which I have been using for some time called Immaterialis. Some time after the update I noticed the app drawer icon for this app changed to the android robot head and then something really weird happened on my home screen. My dropbox app icon changed to a Darth Vader head which tripped me out because my wallpaper is a star wars wallpaper. I uninstalled the app and reinstalled it with titanium and it went away after a cache clear and reboot through twrp.
I'm sure its quite possible that this Darth Vader situation is unrelated to the icon pack update but I just can't get my head around it and I thought maybe my dropbox had been hacked.
I run several modules with exposed and basically any root mods I can without my phone spazzing out so I'm sure there is a number of factors that could be causing this issue, however I don't have any star wars themes etc other than the occasional wallpaper I import myself.
If someone could give me any info as I can't find anything on Google.
I have attached photos to show what system I am running and screenshots of the app drawer and home screen showing the Darth Vader head.
Cheers.

If someone was really hacking you, they would have completely been dicking with you, or stole all your **** without you knowing. Try a different launcher for the time being. And if you're really dead set on being hacked, use wireshark and see what goes where.

Cheers, don't you think the Darth Vader icon is a bit weird? I don't keep much in my dropbox anyway so they couldn't get much. I'm not overly paranoid about being hacked it just seems strange.
I'm only using stock launcher. How would a different launcher make a difference to security?
Cheers.

No doubt it's weird. But trying a different launcher would be to see if the icon is still applied. Of course, there is the possibility of one of your friends just messing with you
