So in the beginning of July I dropped my Rezound in some water, and it voided those water sensors on the back, and thought it has been functioning fine, you can notice that there is/was water under the very back of the screen when it is a white screen and it messes up from here to there but has worked alright. So I used my upgrade in March to get this phone and Verizon basically said I can buy a new phone at full price or else I'm screwed and stuck with it. Besides just finding someone on craigslist, ebay, etc.. anyone got any ideas on how I can get a new Rezound on the cheap or anything else 4g from Verizon on the cheap that isn't a turd, or somehow I can get a discount?
Just looking for any input, I'm fine with it now, but it's just annoying, and I'm not sure how long the phone will be operational.

Plug it into a charger, wrap it in a paper towel and put it in a bag of dry rice and let it sit for a few days. I've saved an iPhone and a camera that way.

Perhaps a little heat to help drive out the water? Just my guess.

Exactly. Putting it on the dashboard of your car works too, just make sure it's completely covered in rice so it doesn't get too hot. After all, you can bake cookies on your dashboard nowadays.
Oh! I forgot to mention taking the back off, for better airflow. Removing the battery, SIM and SD card don't hurt either, but I don't think the charger will work if you remove the battery. None of my other phones ever have but I've never tried it with my Rezound.

No, it doesn't work without a battery. Unless your in bootloader.

Putting it on the charger can make the water damage worse. Put it in the sun or something but don't put it on the charger. Water + electricity = kablam

He did say it's been working fine other then the water in the phone...
You can check the marketplace here on XDA too. I've seen some rezounds for around $200.
We're only talking about 5V, 1A, which isn't a lot of power. Yes, at high voltage or high current, water and electricity don't mix but I'm sure he's charged it since he dropped it. I've saved devices in exactly this way in the past. Screens are the the hardest part to save, though. The touchscreen on my old iPhone needed to be replaced because the bottom half stopped responding to touches and the camera has a very faint shadow in the screen if you hold it at a certain angle in bright light. Both devices otherwise work perfectly but I hardly use them any more because they've been replaced by my Rezound.

My atrix won't power on (dropped in water); I have had it in dried rice, placed in a zip bag, and sun dried....before all that I immediately removed the battery and shook out whatever water i could. I've waited a full day but still no luck; if I remove the battery and plug in to PC with battery removed I get green LED but other than that I get nothing (for example if I switch to wall charger immediately the LED goes out). If at worst case I need a replacement, how difficult would it be to have this done without the AT&T purchase receipt (I'm not an AT&T customer)? I purchased the item on eBay a little over a month ago. I've read in forums to unroot before attempting return but that's not gonna happen (lol). My girlfriend hates that I even got an atrix so she's kinda happy this happened...a little off topic here, but I really love my atrix so can someone please help me out?!

Well, no help cuz no solution is available. Your phone is screwed and if it fell into water, the water seals must be screwed up as well and guarantee is void.

Well the green LED comes on when plugged into USB like I said...but other than that nothing...I can't find the OEM charger adapter of all the times to be lost. I guess since other threads were successful in revival I would have hoped I would get lucky. Thank you for your reply.
They will know it's been in water by the sensors. They will also know you didn't buy from them. Best bet is insurance if you have it, but I think you are out of luck.

i jumped in the river about 2 weeks ago and completely forgot i had my atrix in my pocket. i would say it was about a good 5 mins underwater. Water damage sign appeared on atrix as well as battery. (red dot). i did the rice thing too..but nothing. unless you're insured..which i was..theres nothing you can do. sorry for your loss.

Actually I sat and thought about it and there's the fingerprint and camera to also take into consideration, as well has other functionalities just didn't post. I'm in between studying Windows Server 2008 , watching TV, and just randomly doing other things. Thanks to you all for your help though. I may just try to find an atrix with just a broken screen or just forget about it all together. I've only had the phone for 3 weeks but stuff happens, consider it $500 down the drain .
Disassemble it, take a look at it, remove the corrosion manually. Use a heatgun on the components, but dont overheat it. Afterwards put together and check if battery still has power with a multimeter. Reassemble and plug into wall charger. See what happens

I say this is your best bet. Try this, or get someone with some electronics knowledge to take a look.
It beats just tossing it.
Either that or put it up on ebay and try to recoup some money. someone with a broken screen, or camera might want to buy it for parts.
I may have done my phone in this time... it fell into a tub of water for no more than three seconds while on. I think this may do what all my tinkering/Odin-ing/Heimdall-ing never managed to do. I grabbed it an took the battery out and I am currently in the process of taking it apart using the little blue tool that I got along with the new ffc camera that I have yet to install.
Has anyone dropped this phone in water while on and it not be negatively affected?
There are special items for this, but most people suggest sealing it up in rice... air tight.

have saved many a phone from davy jones' locker with this method.
My friend's Vibrant fell on a bucket of water and it still worked.
And my Vibrant has washed it's face with me in the mornings and eaten ice cream (I think it wanted to try the next update, but the wrong way)
I think it will survive.
Just don't turn it on or anything until you are completely sure it's try.

The phone is currently completely taken apart and in a bed of brown rice inside a tightly sealed tupperware container. I shall post results of the procedure later... although I don't know how much longer I should wait. I'll give it at least a day, but I'm open to suggestions. I guess I should say that when I opened the phone I didn't notice that water had made it anywhere onto the motherboard, but it's possible that I missed it.
Mine took a dive into the toilet and didnt have any issues. The seal is pretty tight and the air inside the case doesnt escape through the USB/Headphone jack easily. If there was no water in the battery compartment you are probably safe but 24 hours in rice was still done just in case. Been about a month now.

Mine too decided it was a good day for a dip in the pool on Monday... I simply took the battery, SIM and SD cards out, wrapped it in 8 socks and threw it in the dryer with a load of dry laundry for 15min...
It wouldn't turn on with the power button... so I plugged it into my computer and the charge indicator came one. From then on, everything worked great!
Mine was in my pocket and i got pushed in the pool.. I pulled the battery and waited like 3 days turned it back on and it works but i got lines from top to bottom and it fades in and out.. It works as my test phone..

Works perfectly! I put the phone back together finally last night and went ahead and installed the new ffc I bought a while back, and it is back up and running as if nothing happened.

I dropped my Vibrant into water for 3 seconds, but after drying it out the touchscreen wasn't functional. After the first reboot... stucked at Vibrant logo, not being able to move ahead. Odin finds my phone in downdload mode, I can reflash roms, kernels , but still won't reboot into one. Stucks at bootloader. Is it hardware broken?

Yours is toast. Same thing happened to mine had. Nothing would allow it past the vibrant logo. Used my insurance.

The water indicator didn't turn pink. So even though I have no insurance or waranty, I still hope to have o chance to recover my Vibrant. I took it to a guy who says he'll write the bootloader directly on the CPU, not through the USB cable like I did We'll see what happens, I have no other option.Thanks for your replies

Hmm well it might be but It's hard to tell if the board got damaged or just the screen. If u really want to fix it buy one off eBay or Craigslist with a broken screen and swap internals. At least that's what I'd do

Try drying it out totally before using it. Take the back cover off, take battery out, stick main unit in a ziploc bag full of rice and leave it alone for 3 days. The rice will suck up every last drop of moisture that would otherwise take weeks to evaporate out.
^^ awesome idea forgot to mention that rice is like a miracle worker I've saved many a phone that have taken full swims just by throwing them in a bag of rice for a couple days

there is a chance. but probably would require an extensive knowledge of circuitry and i'm guessing since you don't know where to even start... probably not going to happen. lol

LOL. Yeah, I thought it was a long shot. I'll try the rice thing for a couple of days but I'm not getting my hopes up. I thought it was worth a try for $25
Mine survived being totally submerged in water when it fell in a puddle. at first the screen didn't work at all, then it flickered, then it had some lines on the screen, then after one day it was fully functional in every aspect haha, all I did was put it in rice, and all is well... Now I just wish I had waited to file an insurance claim, as now I'm stuck with a refurbished with 1.5

After you dry it out if screen still doesn't turn on, turn it on and leave it on for awhile, with caution... See if goes up in flames...would make an epic video if it does btw, but if something is damaged I would assume it would short out, and fry some stuff... Vibration means something is gettin power...

It's too late now to do the rice trick. If there was water on the board and the user tried to turn it on, the damage has already been done and chips were probably fried.

the "with caution" part, here, should simply be don't turn it on at all. turning it on with water or moisture still present internally could damage it beyond repair (if that isn't the case already).
pull the battery out, and throw it in a very large, sealed Ziploc, bag of rice for a few days, maybe even longer - and cross your fingers. if it doesn't work after that. I wouldn't put anymore time and certainly not anymore money into it.
and yes it was worth a shot for only 25 bucks, for sure. I would have given it a try for that price.
I had a HD2 with the same problem. your screwed dude. Sorry. No amount rice is going to save that phone.
Yep, I think the only thing that saved mine, when it was totally submerged, is that the battery was completely dead, so nothing got power.

Take the phone apart and try this, with just the board, an alcohol (as pure as you can get) soak for 2-5mins then air dry (let sit for 1-2hours). Reassemble and test. As the alcohol evaporates, it extracts water out of the circuitry. But, as it has been mentioned, powering it on prior to a full dry may have already fried it.

Theres no science behind water damage, if you've turned it on already then it's too late for any measures to be taken.
In future, if you drop it in water, remove it straight away, remove everything from the phone, try to get as much water out as you can, then pop it in a bowl of dry rice for as long as you can, months would be best, simply assume that the phone is gone and do not switch it on until you can assure that it is completely dry, any other measures you can take seldom work but some have had results, the rice trick is as good as it gets tbh.
Avoid water like the plague with your phone.

So I bought the HTC Evo 3D and had it for about 20 hours before I drowned it in a cup of tea (yes I was drunk) where it sat for a couple of minutes before it was discovered. As soon as it was discovered, I turned it off and removed the battery. It sat over night band in the morning I turned it back on and it works. But I immediately realized that there was still water at the bottom of the screen. I again turned it off and removed the battery and it has been sitting in rice for over a week. There is still water at the bottom of the screen! I'm so frustrated! I don't have a cell phone repair place where I live and I have no experience with working on cell phones. I have even tried using a blow dryer a little but am worried that the heat will harm the screen. My sister suggested just trying to used the phone and the heat from the phone working would evaporate the left over water but I am also afraid of frying things too. Any suggestions???
You turned it on while it was still wet. It's done for. Time for a new phone.
Sugar or colorants that were in the tea could have made that mark on the bottom of the screen

Exactly. Even if you get all the water out, you likely fried the board somewhere. If you still want an evo 3d, they are pretty old now, you should be able to get one on ebay for under 50 bucks.
You could attempt to take your phone apart and clean all the internals with rubbing alcohol but chances are your phone is past-out for ever
(Don't ask me for help as I couldn't care if your phone explodes, eh! )
Today i went swimming an my kid took off with my phone an it went into the pool. I was told it was water proof an when i pool it out the phone turns gray an powers off.. ive gotten it wet before by accident an it was just fine.. i have it in rice now but im asking is it a goner?
Could be. They are not waterproof, they are splash resistant. Still wish it's only a minor incident

The best way at least that i can think of is to manually disassemble the phone and wipe it to dry by yourself,rise wont make it dry,try to power on the phone in a week or so,when the phone is dry.

Actually rice is a natural absorbent, it can in fact, save your phone as it has with my iPod Touch 32gb, though not a razr, it has all similar mobile device components inside, and I didn't even take it apart, left it in a Tupperware full of rice for a few days, after I used a good hair-dryer to evaporate the large stuff. We're still talking about a non-serviceable internal battery (just like our Droid RAZR).
Even though it didn't properly start-up within a day after leaving it in the rice for a few days, the darn thing started right up as if right out of the box about a week later.
So lesson learned, technology is amazing, unpredictable, and very servicable, no matter what.
Though, the idea of taking it apart is a good one because by having water damage your warranty is voided atm.

Taking it apart will not stop the warranty from being voided. There is a water sensor that was activated the moment it got wet and cannot be returned to its original state.
Rice only gets rid of humidity, corrosion will start anyway. It WILL destroy the phone sooner or later.

yeah happened to my girlfriend evo 3d wouldnt charge after awhile... im really not good with taking things apart.. lol also i tried pluging it in it went to the charging part when it boots up with charger, but wouldnt power on fully.. an eventually started rebooting over n over so back in rice for couple days i guess hope i didnt fry it...

There is a 'sonic' bath or somethiing like that that you can perform that is supopsed to get rid of corosion, but you would have to find someone with equipment to do that. Assuming of course that connecting it to the charger did not fry it.

Chlorine should dissipate but you could have problems if you tried charging prior to the phone being fully dry, or if the btty was left in for too long. Alcohol is usually used to clean electronics but I forgot what type doesn't leave a residue.
The rice bath for a couple of days should dry the phone (alcohol also helps to dry the phone), but I would be concerned about btty damage. The content of the btty could have leaked.
If you have insurance turn it in!
i remember using rubbing alcohol, aka methanol should work. try taking a look at XDA tv. there was one instance the guy was *****ing about the Razr not having a removable battery and he opened his galaxy nexus and dipped it in methanol

So just say the battery failed on me? Ik theyll be able to tell its water damaged but lol yeah.. So just call n say that?

if you do take it apart pick up some Denatured Alcohol from a Home Depot type store and use that to clean the inside. It will help prevent corrosion and it is perfectly safe to use on any part of the phone.
My friend had the same thing happen, he took off the back took out only the battery, then grabbed alcohol 99% and distilled water, made a 50/50 solution and put it in a ultrasonic jewelry cleaner for like 30 min, then in a bag of silica gell (those tiny paper bags that say to not eat) Left it there for 2 days, works just fine.
Rice fixed it two days open sd card slot n it working like a charm

Hi guys,
Does anyone know where the water sensors (white round strips) are on HTC One? I accidentally dropped my HTC One in water. It started vibrating and I could not turn it off. It turned off once the battery got drained. I am not sure if I should try to plug it in. Its just over a month that I bought it..but I dont have the accidental insurance...I wonder how HTC knows if the cellphone (in particular HTC One as it is pain in the ass to open according to ifixit) has water damage or not.
Thoughts??

just call att and tell them then you want the insurance added. tell them you didn't realize it was just over a month. they always honor it. then next day do a claim.

I am not sure if you should try turning it on either. Not do I know about how htc detects water damage.
My sister-in-law spilled some soda on her phone and put it in a jar of dry rice (surrounding the phone with rice entirely) to dry it out. It worked well for her, but I don't know how effective it is in general. Nevertheless, it might be worth a shot.
When I took my phone in for a replacement they checked what color it was under the glass for the flash. Maybe that could be it somehow?
Pull out the SIM card slot. Put it a container filled with uncooked rice and seal it up. Make sure you bury the phone into the rice so it sucks out the moisture from the phone. Leave it there for about 3-4 days. Take it out, place SIM card back in, plug in charger and see if the red notification light turns on. If it does, it means its charging and let it charge for about 30 minutes before powering it on.

I did the rice thing already for 2 days. Plugged in this morning. The red charging light starts flickering and then has been blinking ever since. Not a solid red light like its supposed to be during charging. Phone doesnt get charged. Tried holding power button for 10-15 sec with no luck.
I am assuming if I call HTC, they wont honor the warranty no more...Am I correct?

I would try AT&T they may swap it out without checking. HTC probably will check.

When I called for service they mentioned the same thing. They asked if the yellow around the flash was red at all.

The same is happening to my phone right now after i kept it in rice for 3 days. What happened to ur phone then?
The flash is the water sensor, as others have mentioned or guessed. I was at the AT&T store for a sim card swap and casually asked. I know the tech well and he told me where it was himself. Also, the dry ice trick is more reliable in my experience.
You can use silica desiccant in a bag for much much better results than rice. You typically find small packets in shoeboxes, etc. (No, I am not encouraging you to take the packets out of all the shoeboxes at wal-mart. But if you did, you'd confuse the hell out of the security personnel if they watched you on camera =P) You can refresh the desiccant pebbles by heating your oven to about 300 and then turning it off & leaving the packets on a cookie sheet inside. This will purge the moisture from them and re-activate them.

I used to be honest like you, but then I took a $50,000 medical bill to the knee.
I dropped my HTC One in the toilet, and it's not working at all. Can anyone help?
It was in the toilet for a second or two. I then took it out immediately and turned it off, wiped off any excess water, and left it in a bowl of rice, rotating it every few hours, for 48 hours. I have tried to turn it on this morning, but have had no luck. The screen is just blank, and the phone does not react when I put the charger in. The led green light doesn't come on to say it's charging, and neither a laptop of computer are recognising it when I plug it in. Does anyone have any idea what's wrong with it, or is it just completely dead? It's a new phone on contract, and I really can't afford to get a new phone. Or does anyone have any idea how much it would cost to repair it?
Any advice or tips would be really appreciated!

I have been working for a sub that repairs phones for AT&T for several years. Water damaged phones do not get repaired as there is no way to get all the water and the contaminates that it migrates to the PCB out from under all the parts and connectors. If the Rice or other suggestions did not work then the phone is history and must be replaced at your cost if you don't have insurance. If you have insurance just be honest pay the deductible and get the refurb the will give you.
Thats your only options.
The ones water Indicator is actually inside the flash lens. Look next to the camera lens and see if that's a pinkish color or a off white- yellowish. Pink is water. There's also a small one inside the Sim slot that you can't really access or see. Good luck
