Hi everybody,
I just aquired a SGS 2 for 1 euro at my provider, so i gave the good old HTC Incedible S to the wife
and i have some (probably already answered a million times) questions, hehe
first one: my sgs runs really hot, is that normal? i already underclocked the CPU to 1ghz and its better now, still just wanna make sure that its ok that they get hot (no overclocking potential i guess)
second: which AOSP/AOKP rom is advisable out there in terms of call quality/reception and battery life ( i installed CM9 for now)
and last, how can i know if my SGS has NFC or not
Thanks a million
1. Temperature is normal until it raise over 52 Celsius degrees.
2. You need to test ROMs on your own.
3. i9100 does not have NFC.
okay, thanks
ressurection remix final looks pretty sweet, i know roms is pretty personal, but i'm open to suggestions
do i need to flash a new modem/ kernel?

Resurection ROM is really great ROM. You don't have to flash kernel our modem because this ROM have it included.
My sgs2 is hot only when I'm playing games but it's not very hot. I would say warm.
Yea RR is cool but try paranoid android ROM.its based on cm 9 .Basically it makes your apps and the whole ROM have tablet Ui/phone UI per app.You can also change DPI per app.

Cm9 + siyah kernel + directorybind = winner !!!!
Phone is blistering fast and everything is just bliss
Underclocked it to 1ghz and undervolted with -25 mv. Temp is great now too, not too hot at all !!!

For me, CM9 ROM works best regarding battery life, everything is stable too. Also just a suggestion drop like 7 bucks on an extra battery if you really need it I purchased one and it's great,

Hey guys.... I was wondering
Did you have Galaxy S before you got Galaxy S2?..... I have a heavily pimped out Galaxy S
Insanity ROM with Damian´s GTO Kernel with 1280GHz and the phone is insanely fast with 3-4 days battery life....
I was wondering if I have any reason to buy the Galaxy S2?.... I mean in terms of speed and battery life?
I know it has better Camera and flash and stuff like that :þ
Thanx
I can almost garantee the SGS2 will be quicker out the box. It will cope alot better than the SGS under load too. Having a gig of RAM is very helpful.
I thought my cm7 nexus one was super fast untill i got the sgs2.
I would buy the sgs2 simply because, if they can make an sgs as fast as an sgs2, then what the hell can they make the sgs2 as fast as?

haha yes, that is what I was thinking ..... think I will enjoy my Galaxy S this summer and buy Galaxy SII when developers have come up with fast as hell ROMs + Kernels
everything about the SGS2 [stock] is better!
but i found that my 'pimped' [lol] SGS1 with custom ROM Etc had a much longer battery life.
once devs get some good custom ROMs on here in sure the SGS II will out-do the SGS1 by miles!
switching from SGS1 to SGS II was the best thing i've done for a while!

With normal use, turn off 3G/WiFi when I´m not using it and stuff like that I can get 4 days...
I have been using my phone pretty much now, getting 2 days from it easy :$
Just to give context of what I am trying to get, here's the background information:
I had HTC Thunderbolt and the stock Verizon ROM was really bad.
ISSUE: bad battery life, crashes, random reboots, etc.
SOLUTION: I tried MANY custom ROM and after a long time, found one that works great and stuck with it for months. Although I am OK installing custom ROM, but the journey of finding which one is right is NOT something I enjoy (multiple ROM, Kernel, tweaks, etc.)
Afterwards, I bought an International version of Galaxy Note, a CARRIER-UNLOCK phone with none of the carrier crap or firmware. The stock ROM works great, so much so I don't have to install a custom ROM
- ISSUE: NONE! Great battery life, really fast and buttery smooth
- SOLUTION: NONE!
Unfortunately, my International Note went defective and it was not covered under Samsung Warranty. Not wanting to go through the same non-warranty issue, I am planning to buy the AT&T version of the Note.
So my question is:
Using the STOCK AT&T ROM, do YOU get the following:
- Good battery life (at least 8 hours - I don't mind rooting and freezing some crap)
- Fast OS performance (not laggy, etc.)
- Stable OS
I don't care about ICS or what not, I just want something that works with the above.
I am just trying to figure out if I have to go through the same thing when I had my Thunderbolt (see above) or not.
It's sort of a subjective thing so you really need to try it out for yourself. That said, most users are reporting great results with the stock ROM.

Since you don't use custom ROM, which app do you use to control the CPU? CPURoot?
Also, is your Note stable and fast performance wise? I.e. playing 3D games doesn't stutter, opening large Word or Excel file is smooth, etc.
Set CPU and yes, it's very smooth and stable. The only game I had minor issues with was temple run. I haven't had a single problem since oc'ng. After root I flashed Da g's oc'd kernel.

It really depends on the rom and kernel you are using. At the moment I am on Omega 4.2 (going to update to 5.0 now) and SiyahKernel 1.0 over clocked at 1.6GHz. I find the S3 very smooth, more compared to stock. The stock rom is pretty smooth but if you feel that there is a lag you could always install a custom rom and kernel. With the SiyahKernel you can overclock upto 1.8GHz.

What is even the point of overclocking this phone with the software available now? There is really no need. I've actually used SetCPU to downclock my CPU when battery gets below 40% to save battery, and even more at 20%.. and it still runs fine. You're just wasting battery and shortening the life of your phone.
Stock is smooth as poop, ask yourself if you're happy with smoothness and speed.. Why risk to get weird bugs like camera fc all of the sudden etc?

Agree you need to read what the custom rom is offering in real terms not hype and decide . bear in mind that every custom rom built claims to be faster smoother saves your battery and will fly you to your destination in first class .Few say hey this rom is slower than stock as i have messed with stuff and cut and pasted a few themes .
jje
PS saying that i am in the process of flashing a stock rom purely to test out my recovery procedures for getting back to a clean stock rom .
I have a question about installing a custom ROM, will it wipe your device after installing the custrom ROM? (I want to install the latest firmware AF2) TIA

Nope, underclocking won't harm it, having a massive overclock for most of the phone's life will probably shorten it's lifespan though.
Hi guys !
I want to flash my Samsung Galaxy S2 but I've some questions :
To begin with, I hesitate between 2 ROMs : JellyBam and RootBox. They have their qualities and their defaults. RootBox is based on JB 4.2.1 and JellyBam is based on JB 4.1.2. Next, JellyBam has CM10's parameters, not RootBox. JellyBam is available on many smartphones whereas RootBox is only for Galaxy S2. Which do you recommend ? Which is the most stable ?
I want to flash my phone because it is warm, it sometimes bugs, it is slow and IT CONSUMES MUCH BATTERY ! But I don't want to brick it (status 7 etc.) and I don't want to lose my data and games party. I know I have to reconfigure the settings after flashing. Is the MHL works with these ROMs?
Thanks for your answers.

Rootbox is also available for multiple devices.
4.2.1 is still much more under development than 4.1.2, so its stability depends on your usage.
About battery: it also depends on your usage.
You won't loose your data, but you have to do a full wipe.
MHL -> I don't know. Look in the threads.

Good question!
It was an excellent question,
Rootbox had been one of the best ROMs since long time, complete and stable. Jellybam have always a nice and good look, but was more unstable than rootbox. But on the last update, in my opinion, JellyBam fixed his classic unstability and did a great job, full of customiation like always, stable and fast. Now i`m in doubt which of both i get. Im gonna try each one for a week, i think.
Bye.

So, I came across a kernel that allowed dual-booting, and I was wondering if it's smart to make use of this feature? I saw that it takes up 3GB of internal space, and my S2 has 16...I'm currently running PACman ROM, and wanted to try out ChameleonOS while still keeping the former available for use. Would anyone like to help out with their opinions? Would performance and/or battery life be affected?

actually , u only got 10GB of about 16 GB , 6GB probally for ROM, i dont know why ,but when i flashed any rom , and checked my internal space , its only about 10~ 11 GB .
About dual-boot, there no needed to dual-boot , cause like Laptop, we can use 2 diffirent windows at the same time , but its a waste of time .

Yesterday I took ph off charger @ 7am in the morning. I still had 70% charge left @ 8pm. 2000mah battery & UV -25. Best JB battery life I've ever had. Plus cm10 skank 4.1.1 is as smooth as anything else I've used. Of course kernel+script(s)+tweaks help a bit.
NB, the camera in skank had the cm bug of black edges in view finder... Changed it out for 4.2 camera.
