Should I Dual-Boot? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, I came across a kernel that allowed dual-booting, and I was wondering if it's smart to make use of this feature? I saw that it takes up 3GB of internal space, and my S2 has 16...I'm currently running PACman ROM, and wanted to try out ChameleonOS while still keeping the former available for use. Would anyone like to help out with their opinions? Would performance and/or battery life be affected?
link to kernel page on xda
PS: I've checked, and the kernel is compatible with my ROM

No.

actually , u only got 10GB of about 16 GB , 6GB probally for ROM, i dont know why ,but when i flashed any rom , and checked my internal space , its only about 10~ 11 GB .
About dual-boot, there no needed to dual-boot , cause like Laptop, we can use 2 diffirent windows at the same time , but its a waste of time .

Yesterday I took ph off charger @ 7am in the morning. I still had 70% charge left @ 8pm. 2000mah battery & UV -25. Best JB battery life I've ever had. Plus cm10 skank 4.1.1 is as smooth as anything else I've used. Of course kernel+script(s)+tweaks help a bit.
NB, the camera in skank had the cm bug of black edges in view finder... Changed it out for 4.2 camera.

Daul booting is very good for testing ROMs.I dual boot(see signature),because I like more AOSP based ROMs and their UI,but I also use MHL HDMI,for which I need Chameleon ROM.

@King_Rat: That's amazing battery life for a CM!
Thanks again to everyone, I'll do this tomorrow.

[Q] Best custom / stock rom for Stability + Battery endurance?

Hi guys ,
as you are well aware I'm new here, and have made an account on XDA so I can share my opinion and also read yours in hope of a solution.
Anyway I'm currently running an official 2.3.6 ROM on my Ace, and have gone through just about everything the Development section has to offer, from TheMyths' ICS to unofficial CM7 Kang builds, but I'm still looking for a perfect blend of stability, battery, lag free (smooth) ROM's.... And need help deciding.
So far I've noticed that the CM7 builds seem to have the best performance (benchmarked by Quadrant standard) and works fine, however I haven't had the time to observe the battery life...
Ultimately an ICS clone would be sick, I love the style, since CM looks fugly in my opinion.
Also would like to know what kind of tweaks you guys use for your Aces' to get a little extra juice from your batteries...
Thanks
Hm....You could try and use SGS2 rom from space caker,or gingercruzt or infinity, both from nims11

The battery life, as reported by many users including me, tends to be rather relatively miserable.

If you want a very convincing ICS look alike, I suggest you pick out a CM7 build and download AChep's ICS theme.

I'm using GadgetCheck's V8.5 Supercharger tweaks, plus Slaid's SlaidFASTMod V2.5 (not updating to his new LagFree scripts since I experience some odd UI lags here and there (ironically)).
If you really want to save on your batteries, try setting your governor to conservative or powersave (though powersave will lag your phone to the point of 1984) and don't overclock (flash a non-OC kernel, if you want).
And check out JuiceDefender. It'll turn off radio connections when the screen is off, and I saved around 165% worth of battery life with that app. The only downside is is that it ****s up with push notifications, and I need those for my IM and email.
EDIT:
I forgot, you asked for a specific ROM.
Well, I for stability and efficient battery consumption, I recommend you just stick with stock ROM (or something based on it), since it was compiled specifically for SGA hardware. My longest relationship with a stock ROM was fla.sh's fla.sh X2.3 ROM followed by sametpoyraz's Glsmt 2.1 (I know it says Glsmt 3.0, but a download link was never provided). Both of them are considered dead projects, but that doesn't mean that the ROMs aren't half bad!
Thanks [/QUOTE]
i've had problems flashing 2.3update of that rom, have you tried the rom?
I Am useing The Infinity Rom Final And Its Great With Performace And Good With Battery Life!
Bye And Salam.
Samsung Galaxy Ace [Rooted]

Based On Cyanogenmod 7.2 RC0 ICS FINAL
Turboboast v8.5 And SlaidMOD v3
FrameWork Mod Active!
8 GB Class 10 Sd Card Ext
THAnk mE IF I HeLPED
For stability and speed, I hands down recommend ICS Final. The rom I'm using. As for battery life, you can have the best battery with ANY kind of rom. Just check out the thread on my signature ;D
Thanks for all the replies to my thread thus far... will definitely try that SetCPU... As far as Slaids scripts go however, I did once try that but found my device would have lag, that being screen tearing.

[Q] AOSP vs Touchwiz

Hi all,
I keep reading but I don't seem to find a definite answer for this question. I read somewhere that because of i9300 processor (samsung didn't reveal the codes or sth) the performance and battery life on Custom ROM based on AOSP and CM is not as satisfactory as Stock or Touch-wiz based roms.
Is this true? I love to use CM but the battery indeed seems to drain faster. Any idea of when i9300 users might get to use solid AOSP or CM based ROMs?
Thanks mates!
I am curious about this too. It seems that AOSP ROMS will always be imperfect as long as the Exynos codes arent released.

I have messed around with a few ROMS (mainly sammy based one's) and using a SAMMY ROM with a new launcher is a strong base.
Why not start by finding a good sammy based ROM (i'm using Viking ROM although may switch to HyperLight) get a nice setup, then you can simply backup and mess with ASOP & CM yourself knowing you have a rock solid alternative to fall back on.
You can make up your own mind then ^^

CM10 is still nightly build right? I tried some ROMs like slimbean and liquid smooth but the battery performance is significantly not as good as stock. Am i right?
Yes right...
The stock ROM gives awesome battery life...
I tried CM10 but it seems to drain battery faster...i mean not that faster...
On my galaxy sl i9003 you cant even imagine what actually battery drain is....
Life 7hrs and gone but on my S3 the battery is OK about a day or day and a half and still 34% left !!

Wah. A day and a half??? I can't even achieve it with stock rom. What kind of tweaks do you use?
I just rooted a while ago and have just been flashing ROM this and that. Have never tried custom kernels or mods.
Would love to hear some tweaks that will last me 1.5 days with CM10. haha. Share with me bro.

okay. So i do not need any kernel and tweaks for excellent battery life is it?
tried so often cm9&cm10, lately slimbean.
was AOSP fan on my desire, but not on the s3 (yet)
none of them made me stick to AOSP for more than 1week...
too many "bugs" - minor things who annoyed me like: **** camera&video (unstable), battery life, calling bugs (low voice volume) etc
ive to admit that slimbean + siyah kernel beats everything, the battery life is rly nice (nearly liek sammy roms). siyah kernel helps alot concerning the battery life on AOSP!
still ive to use a sammy rom cuz of stability and reliability.
id look forward to a fully working AOSP rom, hopefully soon.

What good is a ROM that is stable (as in doesn't crash) but ISN'T fully functional (as in has issues w/ hardware) ?
I want a ROM that is both stable and fully functional, even if it isn't the benchmark champion.
For me, the stock ROMs offer the best of the 2 worlds: they are stable and functional.
Yeah, let the flame start, but I am yet to see an AOKP/AOSP/CM ROM that doesn't have a single issue with hardware.
So, stock ROMs for me are the winner.
I use NOVA Launcher Prime, BTW, but the TouchWiz that came with today's stock JB (France, XEF) is extremely fast and as customizable as Nova Launcher.

Hello. First I want to give thanks for your work. I downloaded the latest version 3, but I have many problems:
- The phone becomes very hot.
- Long time to charge the battery. Yesterday in 4 hours did not reach 100%.
- I loaded the phone at night with 90% percent, and I went to sleep and ... was extinguished without battery to get up!
And I think preference level has more options Cyanogenmod based version 10.1.
Is there any solution to the issue of battery consumption?
patch for neo?
Is there any patch for neo of this rom??
for battery consumption , just wait for a day or two for the rom to stabilize. But battery life will not be as good as android 4.0 or 4.1 . As the kernel also is in dev stages.
@Dharmesh8294 patch not there as of yet.

It is true! The first time I installed the rom the battery is consumed in a few hours. Now the second battery charge seems to last longer (though admittedly still far from Super Jelly Bean 5.5).
As for RAM consumption and performance is much better than Super Jelly Bean 5.5. Incredibly fast and quick, perfect. In the following versions ask you to improve the front camera (not working) and greatly increase the battery.
Take this opportunity to thank you for your work, as we can not renew our phone (in my case money) greatly appreciate you work. Thank you very much, keep it up, congratulations from Spain!

I have been using this rom as my daily rom. The Ram management is quite good. Rom is really smooth and fast.Random Reboots are still there and brightness level is quite low, u need to keep it at almost half level. Lockscreen is also too fast . Never experienced this kind of smoothness while using lockscreen. I really appreciate Dev's work for bringing this level of smoothness.
Hope random reboots and battery performance issues will be solved in upcoming days :good::laugh:

Hi. Thanks a lot for this ROM. This is the best 4.2.2 I've tried. I have tested different releases of LegacyXperia (@shufuking) and DarkDefender, but this is the best, so soft, and the battery life is great (I use greenify) using 3g everytime, like CM10 I think. Ram management is ok too, always up to 150 Mb free in my Arc S. Still testing, I'll report

[Q] Battery life on AOSP vs Stock based and charging time

Hi,
I keep on trying various ROMs available. I have noticed that on the same usage pattern 20 hours after a charge stock ROM or stock based ROMS give me around 2 hours to 2.15 hours of screen on time on 3G/2G but if I use AOSP based ROM Omega or earlier the CM it gives me hardly 1.15 hours of screen on time and it dies! Does anybody experience it? Any ways to improve battery life on OMEGA ROM to match it with Sammy ROMS?
I use minimal apps including whatsapp, location on, gmail on push sync, twitter, a little of music max 1 ~1.5 hrs. Also have installed same Kernel Agni with same profiles extreme battery saving or normal-optimized! But still I find so much of difference!
Another thing I have noticed I use 700 mAh charger to charge my phone, it takes around 3 hours on Sammy ROMs but it charges like in 2 or 2.15 hrs on Omega/AOSP based ROMs.
Can anyone help me to understand if you face similar issues? any solutions? any way we can improve battery life on Omega? Please don't tell to turn off location that has hardly helped me!
P.S. Omega ROM version 4.4.2 everywhere! and Sammy ROM 4.3 everywhere!

Help me choosing rom

Hi. I'm going on a 2 week trip, and i need to have my s3 in best condition
I look for fast and battery friendly rom for i9300, based on 5.0 (5.0.1/.2/.3) 5.1(.1) or 6.0(.1)
I was trying out Archidroid 3.1.5 (5.1.1 ) and it's doing ok but battery life is a little bit disappointing
Please help me choose the correct one
Ressurecton remix rom
I think this rom is the best. It is based on cyanogen mod and has all features of the other roms. Battery life is amazing and performance is liquid smooth
5.7.1 is the latest and is operating on android 6.0.1
(Cant post URL cause i a new member lol)
Hope this helps you!

I was happy with CM13 when I was using a d2tmo S3. Turning off background data and disabling wakeup permissions for the piggy apps did wonders for the battery, as well as barring Google Play services from waking up or accessing location. But if you're traveling, buy a spare battery or two and an external battery charger, you can get both for $20 US on ebay. That way you'll never be caught short.
