Charge Card (credit card size usb charger) - Kickstarter - HTC EVO 3D

Hey all
Found an awesome "charge card" on Kickstarter yesterday and pledged for it.
Pretty much its a credit card sized card, with a flexible usb male end that comes out of it so you can plug it to the phone and then to usb to charge the phone. very nice to store though and always on you
It's $18.
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/nomad/chargecard-for-iphone (i know the link says iphone, but they made an android version too)
I am not affiliated at all with this company or the people, just found it and wanted to share, I'm excited for it.

Nice concept but pointless...not really of much use to me I wouldn't have thought.
Just use a cable :what:

How is this useless?
Do you carry a wallet with you everywhere you go? I do.
Do you carry a backpack with you everywhere you go? I do not.
Do you find your phone running out of charge when you are out and about? I do.
Do you want to carry a USB cable bundled up in your pockets all day long? I do not. Do you find that might be a little bulky? I do.
Would you like a replacement for a USB cable, that is easily kept in something you do, in fact, carry all day long with you in your pocket, that costs $18? I do.
Also I hope the sarcasm and social satire that THE ONION provides has not been lost on you, and that you do understand what The Onion actually IS? But I am going to venture a guess that, no...you do not understand.

No its not lost on me.
I'll talk from ny experience.....
One place I use my cable is at home on my pc or laptop or in a wall socket with the adapter. So at home I wouldn't need it.
Now, on the go I have a charger in my car. I drive everywhere. At work I also have a cable which stays in my draw. My battery is never low during the day after a full charge, let alone to the point where I need a credit card USB charger in my wallet which I'd have to pull out and then go looking for a USB source?
I'm just telling you my opinion, it looks great but has no real point. Yes it fits in your wallet. But what's the use in that.... You could cut a $1 USB cable down and slot it into your wallet. ( extended flap which takes notes)
Occasionally when I do go out the house with others I'll take a really small shoulder bag. Just because my pockets cant take all my stuff, inhaler, 2 phones, headphones, body spray, sun glasses, wallet etc etc.... And maybe my USB cable with the car lighter adapter
I'm not criticising the product. But for me it serves no purpose.

I for one think it's quite a clever concept, but like all products, it's not for everyone.

Exactly, for me this serves a great purpose as I am often on the move a lot with my laptop and even though I do have a charging cable with me, i would rather carry this around since it seems like such an elegant solution. It would take up less space in my bag and never tangle, win/win...
Thanks OP for posting this as I never noticed it on kickstarter.
PS, i hope that guy that posted that video didnt get a pebble. and if he did GTFO and stop trolling, even as a joke that video is stupid...

usb cable for car

i am going to put my evo 3d in a brodit holder unfortunately brodit haven't released a charger version so I'm stuck with using the htc charger I have already got
The problem is that the port is on the side, so the cable sticks out a fair bit before I can bend it , has anyone any idea if I can get a usb cable which bends if you know what I mean so it will sit flush with the phone as I dont want to damage the usb connector
Sent from my HTC EVO 3D X515m using xda premium
Yes, there are 90 degree microUSB cables which stick out way less and can be easier to handle in tight spaces, look at this thread and take note of the cables I mentioned there... I actually later bought a longer one for my car (3') with the opposite orientation as I show in that post so that the cable approaches the phone from the top rather than the bottom, making it easier to put down and pickup on my center console or cup holders. You might want it one way or the other depending on your car's layout and where the charger port is.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1218703
Phones with side ports should come with 90 degree cables by default imo, they're more convenient in general, and surely safer for your port.
Awsome just ordered one off Amazon UK hopefully will work well with my htc plug in bit thanks

I got a bunch of motorola microusb to microusb right angle adapters from amazon for 3.65 each (free ship). It is expensive, but that was the best I could find. They were around 5 each on eBay.

New dock that allows cases on it

Just found this at amazon and it allows you to charge your S2 with a case on it..
http://www.amazon.com/Sinjimoru-Sta...VKH0/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1318089770&sr=8-3
Hmm that looks interesting. I wonder how stable it is.
There are some video reviews for it on youtube. It looks pretty stable...
That looks nicer than having tto take my phone out of the case to work with the infuse dock

Ya...I bought that dock and it's *crap*. Received it today at work and used it for about 1/3 of the day. My desk is completely flat and with the *slightest* tip (or even the headphone cord moving while plugged in) the entire thing rolls backwards. I had to push it up against one of my monitors to keep it upright. On top of it, the entire thing feels *really* cheap (like it could break at any moment) and the phone isn't even kept stationary on top of it. It relies on the cable connection to keep it upright...which is doesn't. The phone moves around without a problem.
Overall, not worth the money. I'll be sending it back tomorrow.

Yikes! I just ordered one of these.
I'm finding that charging the phone in a case is a real problem unless I use the stock usb cord. I have a zillion other cables that work but not with a case. Not psyched about ordering more stock cables. I bet the official dock doesn't work with a case.
Any other solutions with extended connectors for use in a case??
I just got mine and it is not exactly what I expected but it does get the job done. I do not have any stability issues with it, I can actually tilt it backwards about 25 degrees with my phone on it before it falls backward, I do think it would benefit from some extra mass but with the phone on it I have not problem with it. I have the Ballistic case on mine and my problem was that the cable that came with this dock would not reach far enough into my device to make a connection because my case basically adds some depth to the port. I had two choices, either modify my case or the dock. What I ended up having to do was modify the cable that came with the dock with a longer micro usb port at the end so that it would make contact while on the base. Although I agree that this dock could be better, it does accomplish what I needed it to, just needed some help. I have a dock for every one of my devices, but this is the first one that lets me leave my case on.

For charging micro USB cables you could try to locate one of the ones for the nook color. Worked fine on my old captivate and works great on my new sgs2 even with the case on.

would it be possible to use the mhl adapter cable and turn this into a tv dock? i dont know if you could replace the larger usb cable that is included and swap it with the mhl one and have power to it and hdmi conencted at all times.
has anyone tried this who bought this item?

be careful with your charger cables!

not sure if this justifies a topic of its own but i have kind of wrecked my hp charger cable by using it to charge my phone
i can only assume that the socket on my htc incredible S is tighter or something because the micro usb end wiggles around so much in my touchpad now it doesnt maintain a connection unless i apply pressure in a certain direction!
so just to let you all know, its probably best to keep your hp cable for your touchpad!
Why would you put it in your phone in the first place? They require different amount of power (tl;dr: you could have fried it).

huh? the device only pulls as much as much power as it wants
and it only pulls 2amps when the touchpad detects the right amount of resistance
he is talking bout the cable and actually it might be the "teeth" on the micro usb being lower than it should, i basically have gone thru 4 cables because they wont stay in the right place not only because they are recessed (which i have pulled back into place but because there is a crack on the usb port..

I hate micro USB, such a flimsy design.
Basically some of the male ends are a micrometer thicker, causing the female end to stretch.
At least with TouchPad, you can get an inductive charger.

cant argue with that totally agree with the touchstone, oh if the tp was able to pull 2 amps that way though..

A switching mode power supply (pretty much all newer chargers) will put out its rated voltage as long as the current draw is equal to or less than its max spec. There is a slight variation between chargers output voltage but a few tenths of a volt won't do any damage.
I have charged all sorts of devices using the TP charger without issue. My Sansa Clip using a miniUSB cord, my Droid 3 using the HP cord. The microUSB plug is a standard so ports should be the same on all devices, but I really like miniUSB better. It seems like a more robust connection than micro which feels too small and flimsy.
My charger has a usb socket so I was able to swap out the micro usb charger - can you not do that?
Sent from my R800i using XDA App
oh yea, obv i can just change the cable, and quite cheaply, but was just letting people know that the slot on the touchpad must be quite big relative to other devices (though i can only vouch for my incredible S).
i'll have to buy a new cable now, though - no biggy
Sand down those spiked nibs that are supposed to hold the cable in place, they are too big to be needed and cause extra wear and tear on the units usb socket.
Taking them down to about 50% size and making them not so sharp gives the cable a good fit where it wont come out easy but its not like pulling teeth.
I learned this with my N900 lots of users did it, and now I noticed the touchpad had the same kind of fit and cable, so I consider this a necessity if you want to prolong the life of your device and minimize the possibility of something happening like what happened to the OP, atleast for him it was the cable that gave out and not the micro sub port on his TP.
my cable stopped working a while ago so im just using my samsung and htc cable, samsung cable is a real nice fit better than the TP one.
The supplied TP cable is just a flimsy POS. I've bought dollar store cables that were higher quality.
I use the TP charger and the cable that came with my phone to charge both devices. I've been doing it for months with no ill effects to the phone.

yup my usb cable doesnt work anymore. I accidentally tripped over it lol
LOL good thing i bought 3 HP touchpad chargers over the weekend.
I actually lost the stock one.. so i 'stocked' up... just in case
Just FYI, the default AC adapter that comes with the TP has two parts.
The front part rotates to separate it from the base, if it's rotated a bit - it won't charge, so double check that the front (where the prongs are) are tightened properly.
Mine's developed the same fault using it on my Galaxy S2, it's now loose on all devices and I had to throw it away. I just think the quality's poor.
The HP cable for my TP stopped charging the device too, got in touch with support and a day later I received a shiny new replacement cable which *isn't* loose
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
my usb cable stopped working too (yesterday).
Well, it works but i need to hold the cable in a particular way or it stops.
Did any of you buy a replacement? if ya which one.
Hmmm, I got the touchstone and haven't used the USB since, unless plugging in to the computer to move an update.zip over. Still tight fit, and with rom I'm running touchstone seems to charge the same as the actual charger that came with touchpad.
It is actually a fact that the stock USB cables are of poor quality. So ultimately its not your fault if it goes bad. Just use another micro USB cable (even cheap ones you find at the convenience stores works great) to charge your touchpad. I've been using my micro USB which came with my phone to charge my touchpad and I must say its a perfect fit for the touchpad.

nexus 4 q charger

I've been reading a couple of articles about the nexus wireless charger and was wondering is it compatible with our device?
Short answer no. N4 has it build into the phone, there is no such for us
If someone tries the touchstone mod, but that requires a lot of work and soldering, etc; not sure if it would even work either
Ehh yea that's alright with me really just a gimmicky product. Says wireless charging but really it has to connect to a wall outlet for power so really its just a kickstand for the phone. If it had speakers then maybe they would be on to something

But does it charge the device from a distance, or do you have to actually physically place the device on he dock? If it's the later, then it is most definitely not wireless. You may not have to plug anything into the phone, but if it can't charge without coming into contact with the wired dock, what's the point? I already have a wire that connects to the phone without a dock between it and the wall.

In my case it is very convenient because I don't have tons of space at school, so my plugs are behind my bed, desk etc. and the power cord is tough to reach/unplug every time I need to take it somewhere. Also in an office type setting where you don't have to fumble through cords, and you can just let it sit docking and just pick it up and go. Techincally it is wireless, as you don't have to plug any wires into the phone.
I guess it's convenient when you don't like cords but me I would just by an extra charger or a dock and have for home or office use and one for the road which I sorta have already just need a dock.

Magnetor Charger

Anyone try Magnetor X... http://www.amazon.com/Magnector-Performance-Magnetic-Charging-Adapter/dp/B00JEN5S6A/ref=sr_1_1?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1412040478&sr=1-1
It seems like a great alternative to the dock... I don't want to always be taking out the thing to plug in... Magnetic and call it a day.\
I just bought three, arrived before my wife's Z3C (I'm getting the T-mobile Z3 when it's released). Look high quality enough.
I ordered one which it appears is in the same package as the phone so hopefully today or tomorrow. I'll report back if no-one else has by the time it arrives.
I heard these may not have enough clearance if you have certain cases on your phone.
clearance is limited, but the magnet has real bite - the only criticism is that it can lean away from the screen towards the rear of the phone, although that depends entirely how you hold it once attached - no led indicator, but the phone does that for you, and no issues as to the effectiveness of the charge (I've used 36% battery on the first day with moderate/reasonable use) - not perfect, just a lot better than you thought it would be......

One girl on here that I talk to said she's been using the magnetic charger on her Z2 and absolutely loves it! So I think it's worth buying (already did actually lol, but waiting for Z3 as I have the HTC One M8 right now until it gets released here in the U.S., so have to wait and see). Apparently it charges twice as fast as the regular USB wall charger does.

Right, I have one of these now and can report it's excellent. The magnet is pretty strong so holds to the phone well. Only problem I've found is that the Smart Connect app sees it as the same as the dock which is a little annoying as I used the dock at night to do things like turn off bluetooth and start Sleepbot etc.
I also bought an actual magnetic charging cable (this one: http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/magnetic-charging-cable-sony-xperia-z3-z3-compact-z2-black-p41526.htm) and the magnet on that is far weaker and comes off if you touch the phone at all while charging.
I definitely recommend the Magnetor X
thanks! i definitely am going to try this!

3Shirts,
The cable I bought is this one, which is made by Magnector X: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JEMESHG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The reviews for it appear to be strongly favorable, so I am confident it will work great. What brand is the one you posted though? Can't find the maker name anywhere.
If you scroll down on mine, it says that Magnector makes this charger with Japanese parts not Chinese, so that may be the difference? Not sure. People who I've talked to on here who have the Z2 or Z3 and this charger cable say it's amazing too. So I definitely agree with your statement, though I have yet to try it out (I have the cable but waiting for Z3's release here in the U.S. lol).

Since it's also Magnector I would assume the magnets on that are as good as the ones on the adapter so it's probably great. Looks to basically the same but a fully wired version rather than being a microusb adapter like the OP.

I heard speeds are great. However, there are no data to support that claim. I bought both the Magnetor X wire and adapter to test out the sizes, convenience, etc.--they will be coming later this week. I am discharging my phone until it goes 1% or so, then charge with various cables and adapters I have in hand (including OEM). Then compare it with the Magnetor X.
