hey everyone!!
I am having issues with instability while my phone is plugged in. It flashes back to lock screen randomly in anything I do. If not plugged in, it is the most stable thing i have used. Thanks for that. I have performed full wipe, wiped cache and dalvic, redownloaded rom and gapps following the faq and troubleshooting procedures in the development thread to the letter...twice go me. I have not changed kernal that came with the rom and i have tested this before doing any restore of info with the same issues. Here are my specs any help will be appreciated. Unfortunately i am not able to post in the aokp forum.
modem- ucle5 maybe stock not sure how to find that out and not sure if it matters i came to aokp from stock ics following root procedures from creepyncrawly properly flashing different kernal before wiping if that is relevant. still learning sorry
kernal- 3.0.25-cm-gaaa0e0b by task650
mod- 7.3.2012
While I cannot offer any assistance, I applaud you for the amount of information you included. Hopefully one of these guys will be able to help you out.

In your description it doesn't say if you wiped /system. Is that part of your full wipe? Also did you run the kernel cleaning script? That helps depending on what kernel you came from.

i did not do a wipe/system or run kernal cleaning script. I guess I thought that the wipe data/factory reset took care of that. I did wipe cache and dalvik and fix permissions. I was looking as I wrote this and I cannot find option to wipe/ system in cmw. is that same as format / system and if so do i need to format all of those( cache, system, data, etc.) I did not do kernal clean either. Is there a guide or specific one i should do? if so man my bad! I thought I was getting a decent understanding hahahahah. I do greatly appreciate the help and knowledge you guys have in here. much respect.
thank you

I appreciate that. i see alot of post about things that are in ops or frequently asked questions and don't want to be that guy. I'm sure that I still probably missed the answer somewhere in here but it definitly wont be from not looking. everyone in here does too much work for free for that.
The thing that most people miss is that you don't necessarily have to find the answer. If you have genuinely looked and make it clear by what you are posting that you have basic knowledge of your issue and your device, you will receive help.
If these guys (the geniuses) realize that you are struggling to find the answer for any reason other than the lack of searching and reading and lack of self help, they will do what they can to help resolve your issue. You meet the criteria for someone deserving of their time.
Good luck. And here's a link that may help you with kernel cleaning, it's a script to run in CWM. All information needed for it is found in that thread.

Now i have mik's CM 6.5.7 and ungaze data2sd. I want to flash 6.5.8 and goldenleaf kernel. What should I wipe before flashing rom and what before kernel? And what about data2sd? I don't remember if it works with ext4 and if I make a backup of my apps will it be enough?
use the forum search, there are at least two zillion answers about that.
You didn't helped me a lot. Just one question do i have to wipe anything when flashing to newer version as i stated above?
i wont help because its two zillion times answered, i think at least one million times by me.
Wipe cache, dalvik-cache and battery stats (if the phone is fully charged). Since you are upgrading to a newer version you don't need to wipe data or anything else.

Since you did not even care to read, it's either you are Dyslexic or you are just plain blind. I give a mega sized instructions for you and i hope you stop this **** and use GOOGLE.
You need only to wipe Caches (Disk cache and dalvik Cache) if you are upgrading
from a previous Phoenix Android version.
If using Rom manager, it's happening automatically, i guess. So, just do it - it will be up & running fine

Hello.
I have just got this phone few days ago.
I am intrested in installing CM9, but i have few questions. If i have understood correctly, I need to install leaked ics before installing cm9 (or any other ics rom). Can this be done with mobile odin, and if can, am I able to keep the root with it? (It has function to keep root)
Also, does cm9 support usb otg? There was no result when i tried to search.
Sorry if these are stupid questions.

if you are already rooted which i gather you are just flash the latest nightly. then flash the last google apps and that is it job done. you can flash all those from recovery.
Make sure you back up your current rom and apps and then go ahead and do full wipe. Data - cache - and dalvik and also format system in mount and storage. Flash the above two i mentioned and that should be it.
Regarding the usb - otg not sure but you can ask in the discussion thread
EDIT: i went from checkrom v6 straight to cm9 if that helps.
No. You don't need to install leaked ICS first. I tried CM9 over the weekend & flashed CM7 first. Follow the instructions on the first page of the CM9 discussion thread & you'll be fine.
If you use the files linked to in the first post in the CM9 thread, they're CWM flashable, so you'll need to have a kernel installed that has CWM in order to flash them. CFRoot kernel will do just fine if your phone isn't already rooted with a kernel that has CWM. There might be Odin flashable files around somewhere, you might have to search for them.
It is rooted, yes. Does it support USB OTG ? Good question. That's one thing I do use a bit on GB & forgot to test when I used CM9. Given USB file transfer doesn't work yet, I doubt it. But ask in the CM9 discussion thread or read the FAQS/Wiki.
So in summary, given you haven't done anything to your phone yet:-
1) Root it with a CFRoot kernel
2) Go to the CM9 discussion thread & follow the install instructions in the first post.

True but once you get the hang of things and how things work with the s2 it is a piece of cake..But i must admit sometimes i get scared on what to do specially if i have to unroot and root again as i have only done it a few times...Once i stayed rooted that is it...i do all my upgrading by flashing custom roms. anyway good luck with cm9 you will not regret using it..let me know how you get on
Haha ;-) You Sir are a noble man
OP - Yep, S is right. CM9 is a very nice piece of work given they've only had leaks & their own considerable hacking talents to work with. It's not quite a 'daily driver' for me at this point, but once sources come out I'll be switching back to it post haste. I'd be surprised if the CM team don't have a stable ICS release long before other devs.

I have been looking at the Omega V13 ROM and really fancy trying it out.
Do I simply place the download ZIP file onto my sd card and install from Recovery?
I had originally un-zipped the file and placed the folders in my phone, but Recovery didn't find any update files...
Am I being an idiot?

Just a quick tip, you do need to be rooted and already flashed a custom kernel to get CWM to flash that zip in recovery. I suggest you do A LOT more reading before doing ANYTHING..... Sorry if you know all this already, from your post I would say make sure you read all you can and understand what you're before doing it.... GL

Thanks for the reply mate, but despite my noob question regarding this particular ROM, I have flashed/modded my phone a number of times. I have tried the Resurrection ROM, plus a couple of others in the past. The confusion in me arose because every other ROM I'd tried used Odin, whereas this is my first through Recovery.
Thanks again.

And with that, GL enjoy your new ROM!!!
That's fair enough dude
Generally instructions on how to install are on the first page of the thread. In general you have to do:
Full Wipe/Factory reset
Wipe cache partition
Advanced -> Wipe dalvik cache
Install zip from SD (or internal memory)
WARNING: You will lost all your phone numbers, wifi passwords, SMS, game levels and data you dont back up. I recommend using Titanium backup for those matters & SMS backup app. Anyway just in case do a backup of anything important you wish to keep.
Well, I've tested a few ROM's this evening and have stuck with Resurrection Remix (4.0.4).
Have to say that I love it thus far!
Thanks for your responses guys.

I am a noob so I want to say thanks in advance to anyone/everyone willing to evan glance at this post let alone lend a hand..
I have rooted my Samsung Galaxy SII (AT&T) and appears to be working fine until I install any custom rom. When I do so and reboot the phone the boot animation will begin but then hang on both ROM's I have tried.
Ive made sure to create a buckup of my phone after root so both times I just reverted to the backup.
So far I have tried resurrection & AOKP ICS ROM..
I am running 2.3.6..
Feel like Im so close but yet so far.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again.

Nick is correct you really need to figure it out as it is necessary for flashing anything.
But in cwm wipe data/factory reset option is the one you need to complete prior to flashing any rom

Assuming you're using CWM Recovery to flash, you should be able to find Wipe Data/Factory Reset option there. If not, you might want to follow this:

HTH.
Thanks guys. I very much appreciate the advice & help.
Hey,
So I upgraded my Samsung Galaxy S II I9100 to ICS 4.0.4 before 1-2 months. The new graphics and extra features looked really great at first, but 2 hours after using it on normal applications (Facebook, YouTube, Twitter.) It froze and did nothing, like literally just freezes at the screen it lagged on. This has been happening continuously for the past 2 months and I'm really sick of it, I upgraded my phone and my dad's one (both SGS2I9100) using Samsung Kies, ever since that, it just keeps freezing like 4 times a day and I have to take off my battery and re-put it so it can reset since nothing will do this.. The old the firmware I had was the really amazingly going well and never lagged even once (I can't remember which firmware though). I'm a total noob, I didn't and don't have my phone rooted or some stuff like that, expect downloading APKs off the internet lol.
I really want someone to help me in this, I know there must be a solution since I don't think I'm the only one who has been annoyed by this, specially when it happens on a daily routine. I searched over the forums and found nothing. I know there must be something talking about the issue but I'm too nooby to understand the article titles which might be a solution of my problem.
Please help me in my problem it really bothers me and xda is my last hope...
Thank you all.
Note: please use simple terms because I really won't understand, and if you do, please teach me them lol.
Well, first of all your up for some reading.
While you go from thread to thread you'll run into the world of ROMs and flashing.
The first thing you have to know is that your device comes with 4 things:
1) Hardware (dah)
2) Kernel (link between Hardware & OS)
3) ROM (OS)
4) Modem (Baseband for your country / Region)
You are actually on 4.0.4, It's Kernel is known to suffer the brick bug issue.
Flashing is used to get the best from your device, in relation to your personal user experience. You got plenty of options like Stock Roms and Custom Roms, as well as Stock Kernels and custom kernels.
When flashing stock roms you get the chance to get rid of your carrier stuff (bloatware and animation boot) by getting an unbranded ROM (samsung official stock rom), you can either go down to previous versions (Gingerbread, ICS 4.0.3) or even go up (Jelly bean leaked ROM). Carrier branded or not, it's just a matter of choice.
When flashing custom roms you get a whole lot of roms to choose from. The most common are CyanogenMod (CM), RR (revolution remix), Omega and etcetera. These roms take the best of the stock roms and leave the worst, so you'll get a more personalized experience.
When Flashing custom kernels your trying to get the best performance for your ROM, this means you can use a stock ROM with a custom kernel.
Modems are basebands that let your carrier network function in your region / country, so if you flash a modem, your network might not work, so you'll have to flash another modem and so on.
Check all that out and if you decide to go on flashing, we are here to help you on the easiest / safest way to do it.
rembember to read and re-read all first.
you did notice this is now your official post right?
Okay I kinda get it, can you kindly please send me links that will help my problem? I'd rather downgrade with Stock ROM than a costum one.
Another thing, will it affect anything that has to do with my Carier? and does my phone have to be rooted in order this to work? If so how can I?
Many thanks.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
try sammobile.com
they have plenty of stock roms.
I'd personally advice you to get 4.0.3 stock ROM. What's you carrier? I could look it up for you while you learn about flashing/downgrade.
That's what I was thinking of too, and it's Orange IL (Israel)
I need you you to tell me how do it too please

When the guy doesn't read it was a good advice to start doing it, because it's not really allowed to ask everything that is allready asked so many times.
When he actually does read, but doesn't understand (which I don't think because he's asking basic question about steps he must take) then it's maybe better to rethink if he's really going to flash something because he doesn't know what he's doing

Why don't you just flash a stock rom through Odin? No offence but I'm serious, the lack of knowledge you show here by asking about Recovery to me seems to be a sign you shouldn't root it at all, and learn a whole lot more about flashing and more if you want to.
