BB Insurance - Galaxy S III Q&A, (US Carriers)

I missed my pocket a couple weeks ago and my GS3 got a small crack in the screen going from the right side of the ear piece, and curving up to the top edge of the phone. Took it to BB to have it fixed, and as you know, they send them out to their service center in El Paso, TX.
Well, that was two weeks ago this past Sunday, and it's still there. When I called BB to check the status Sunday, they told me that they're still waiting on parts, and because the phone is so new, they are still learning how to work on it.
This coming Sunday will be three weeks if its not back by then. How long should it take before they just finally decide to replace it? Or should i just go in and demand they do so at this point?
Its very frustrating at this point. Seems far too long for something they said would only take a couple days to fix. Also, i just past my 30 days two days ago, so exchanging for a different one is not an option now.

ChitterChatter orders?

Just wondering if anyone has orderd from ChitterChatter on tmobile and recieved there SGS2 yet?
Mine was meant to be here over a week ago but has been put back and delayed 3 times now,,,, grrr :0(
Mine has also been delayed. It's mostly annoying because they said they would have it for last Tuesday, which never happened. Then they said they'd call back when they have it in stock to send.
They called back today, still none in stock. I've paid £60 for the phone, so I may try and get compensated for it. At no point did they tell me that it was a pre-order.
Same here. Upgraded to SGS2 on Sunday and was told that the phone would be in stock on Tuesday. Called them on Wednesday to be told a new date Thursday-Friday. Yesterday they told me a tale of the Japanese earthquake and how it affected SGS2 shipments and said that they would probably get hold of teh stock next week Tuesday-Wednesday. Though I am not holding my breath. What about other retailers/operators? Have people started getting SGS2 somewhere? I popped in a CPW shop but they did not have it either.
Ordered mine last Sunday and said it would be with me by Wednesday. Didnt turn up so i phoned them and they tried to fob me off saying that i had just been left a voice mail by one of there colleagues which i hadnt. Couldnt tell me when the stock was due to arrive so i sent them a snotty email saying how unhappy i was with it and that i needed the phone for work by today and they phoned me back 10 mins later and i now have the phone sitting on my desk.
Same situation for most vendors .
The early bird got the SGS2 .

Positive RMA experience

Well, got my Prime back yesterday. I sent it in two weeks prior due to the screen seperating from the back along the top edge. Needless to say, after seeing some of the threads around here, I was not exactly expecting the best. However, I did the RMA and got ASUS to pay for the shipping and I just paid for the box...and, within two weeks, the Prime arrived back, fixed, no creaks, no light bleed other than the tiny bit down by the home and menu icons that was always there, and in fine working order. The wifi even "seems" a little stronger. I haven't done any scientific tests but it works better and faster downstairs than it did before. So, I am pretty pleased that the issue is resolved.
I'm still a bit leary of the tablet since it started coming apart on it's own, and time will tell, but I can at least say the RMA experience went about as well as it could have.
Wow thats the quickest turn around I've seen from Asus. But I guess your issue was regarding the bezel and did not require any engineering tests. Some of the top tabs were probably broken causing the bezel to separate from the purple back. They probably just put a new bezel and sent it right out.

did you have to do or say anything special to get them to pay for shipping?
also did you send yours to texas or a different location?

Went to Texas. As for the shipping...during the conversation with the CS rep, I likened paying for shipping on the 25 day old tablet which was under warranty to my buying a new car, having it break on the side of the road in the first year due a major mechanical issue and then having to pay for towing. Yes, someone has to pay to get the car to the dealership (and that may be me up front), but if the problem is a warranty problem, then I would expect to be reimbursed. So, asked that if I paid to get the tablet to Texas, would I be reimbursed if the tablet had a warrantable defect. I was told no, but then the CS rep offered to have shipping paid for if I covered the boxing. I took the deal.
I had a really positive RMA experience as well. Like some other members here, I was contacted by ASUS_USA via pm and was told to return the tablet for RMA but when they found out that I already have an outstanding RMA (called in couple days earlier) they offered to send in a replacement instead of fixing mine. I gladly accepted the offer.
Asus covered both way overnight shipping via Fedex and I received my shiny new TP within 10 days.
P.S. I sent mine to Asus US HQ i.e. California.
That's just not right. I've been waiting 3 Weeks and they still haven't done anything, I've started calling every other day. And I paid to ship it. Needless to say i'm very jealous...

My RMA has been sitting since 02/01/12 in WB5 waiting status for wifi and gps issues.
I am not sure if Asus has changed their RMA mailing policy or that I just got lucky but a few days ago I also had to create an RMA. After the CSR and I came to the conclusion that my unit was indeed defective he immediately created a prepaid shipping label to Texas and emailed me both the RMA and Fedex label. At no time did I have to haggle for a prepaid shipping label. He just automatically did it without asking.
I was courteous and friendly the whole hour while on the phone with him so maybe that helped?
For those who are curious as to why I had to RMA, I believe a cable for my primes display popped out of its socket. Consequently the unit still ran as usual but I was unable to see images unless I plugged my tablet to a monitor via hdmi. I was hesitant to open up my prime in fear of scratching the unit and sadly my return window with Newegg passed just 2 days prior, so my only option was to RMA.
Hope that helps others looking to RMA.
I'm having a horrible time so far with mine. I sent it in because 1) the power adapter wasn't charging after being plugged in and 2) the plastic piece inside the power (dock) port broke off when I was trying to plug it in.
It took 3 days after I sent it in for status to change to WF4 (customer induced damage). I called the phone number, and they told me to wait for an email about it. Two days later, I get the email. I reply to protest, and get a prompt response From Megan Nesmith saying that they were going to check with the technician. That was a week ago, and I haven't heard anything back even when I've emailed asking for an update twice.
I called the phone number again, and they couldn't tell me anything. Theoretically, my case has been "escalated" and they'll be contacting me soon, but who knows how long that will take.
So at this point, I have no idea what's going on with it. I'm just hoping they don't ship it back to me like they threatened to in the original email about it (if I didn't pay by 2/14).
What town in Texas are you sending to?

I had the same problem and sent mine in, i should be getting it back tomorrow also just about a two week turn around in terms of repairs. I just had a quick question, mine was only in repair for about one day according to there tracking thing. Is that normal for this type of repair. I know ill have it tomorrow but i'm just curious if this is a simpler fix then i realized. Either way it will be great to finally have it back and hopefully in perfect working order.

mine was in house for two days before it got opened, but only a day in repair status, and then shipped.
Sent mine out on the 24th of January, in repair status on the 27th. No status change on february 14th, called ASUS and case got escalated, to find out what was the hold up. Got email that very night with a fedex tracking number, says will be delivered on the 16th. Keeping fingers crossed everything is working right.
By the way problem was WIFI/BT drop issue. When I called tech support the first time, they talked me through a hard reset, which did not fix problem, then received a call later that day, rep immediately setup rma and sent me shipping info which ASUS paid for. All I had to do was provide the shipping box.
Very happy with customer sevice, hopefully will be happy with tablet too.

Problems getting a warranty replacement

Hi all,
I know there are many threads about the yellow tint problem on the XS, but, is anyone else finding it very hard to get a replacement from Sony because of this issue?
I've been waiting for well over a month now because they keep saying they have no displays or replacement units!
I bought an official Italian product from one of the biggest retail chains in Italy.
This is just not acceptible from Sony imho, I'm seriously thinking of selling my XS and getting something else..
Please share any bad experiences..
P.s. The yellow tint is now starting to turn brown!
Well, what will you get instead? A One X? Which has dead pixel issues, flickering screen issues, screen gap issues, etc?
I think Sony is being really careful with the replacement screens - this involves extra QA that slows it down.
I would not want to be the person in charge of the first screen QA...
Honestly I don't know what I'd get to replace it, but last time I had on official product from my country and needed warranty from Samsung they replaced it same day because they didn't have spare parts (Faulty SGS2).
I'm just annoyed about the aftersales, I have no problem with the XS (a part from the screen, obviuosly).
I paid premium for my XS and I expect to get treated accordingly!
I worked for years in the aftersales department of a large company and if we didn't have parts we'd replace the entire unit, the most important thing was keeping the customers happy. All Sony has said is "next week" followed by "next week" the week after and so on.

maybe ring them back and tell them you want your phone back repaired or a new one within a time limit ( say a week for example) or you are going to trading standards, citizens advice etc, I'm not sure what these are called in Italy but I assume you have similar

I have been told pretty much the same. I was told only yesterday that the remaining component they are waiting for will arrive tommorrow, and now I have just found out that it wont arrive till Monday. Phone has been at service centre since 26th April.
I first contacted Sony on the 11th of April, I'm still waiting..
It's weird that you have to do everything via Sony when you bought it a a retail store.
AFAIK the retailstore has to "fix" your problem.
I could get a replacement pretty easily, they even came to my house and replaced the phone at my front door.
That's true within the 1st 15 days from purchase (in Italy), my yellow tint appeared a couple of days later..
Today I got responce from Sony Mobile of Greece, they told me that they are waiting for the replacement screen from start of July!!!!! WTF??? maybe they are trying to short out the problem and manufacturing new parts with different construction methods...(!)
I just got mad today... two more months??? And the bad thing is that now that the weather is hot and my phone reaches 47°C the tint is worse than ever!!!! Screw me Sony!!

If we should screw every manufacture that has problems with bad phones, you would be without a phone...
no manufacture is faultless
I got a call from the Sony service center on Friday and thought "finally"!
Only to find out seconds later that they have received only the black displays...
I told the guy that my problem was with the display so he informed me the display is actually attached to the outer shell so I have to wait for white parts to arrive..
Seems like a bad solution to me from the start.
What happens if i damage the plastic by dropping my phone? Do I have to get a new display too to replace it? WTF?
T-Mobile in the UK replaced mine for a new one with no hassle, very good service.
This is what I usually do when the situation requires a very long wait. Go back to the service center during peak hour, make sure that many people is around, pretend to be very frustrated and raise your voice almost to the point of shouting. Demand to see a more senior staff like the manager and keep your voice up and refuse to leave until you get a satisfactory response. Make sure that everyone is listening.....demand for a refund!!! ( so you can buy another xperia s). They can do it but only to a very unhappy customer. Also mention your friend is in the press. That will force them to exchange your phone one for one! It usually works for me. ( you might need to write your script and memorize it). Good luck!

i sent my xperia s white to the german sony service partner. it took about one month (4 1/2 weeks) until i got my device back. My story in short words:
- sent to service because of the yellow tint issue. Also wanted a refurbishment of the cover. Both, Sony and the Service Company told me that this is no problem and won't take longer than usual (3 business days).
- after first week I got a call. Refurbishment not possible. I would have to pay als the display exchange or I have to send it to them for one more time to do this. The Sony processes won't allow such a combination. The costs would be around 180€. I decided to not do a refurbishment. Just the display exchange.
- after second week they found out, that have no more exchange parts. I don't know why it took one or two weeks to order new spare parts.
- after third week they told me that they are not able to repair it, because they dont get any spare parts.
- i just had the device for a few days and then it was 70€ cheaper already. I got very angry because they wanted to send it back without any repair done. No display exchange, no refurbishment.
- It took me a lot of mails and a lot of calls until they changed their mind and in the fourth week they exchanged my display and cover (its now black) and after one month (4 1/2 weeks) i got finally my device back. Before I had it only 2 weeks and the device was 70€ cheaper after that time.
It seems that I am not the only one in Germany. Other people did get their devices back without any repair after they have already waited for a minimum of 2 weeks
Thanks for sharing this!
I pretty much had the same problem in Germany.
the service center received my phone on april 27, TODAY (may 23) I read that the phone has been repaired and been handed over to shipping.
Almost 4 weeks is not acceptable, I think, but I dont think we can do anything about it.
I shouldnt have sent it in for repair, I should have demanded a new phone...
Lesson learned
I used to manage a service center for another large company, and if we didn't have spare parts we'd exchange the product completely, seems like common sense to me..
Getting people to wait over a month is not gonna make them happy, especially if they paid 500€ for a brand new phone!

I sent my unit in for repairs. After two weeks, the didn't repair it but gave me a new unit. no more yellow tint.
However, I have heard many stories like yours from many brands in Italy.
If less than 10 days have passed, ask for "diritto di recesso".
(Next time get the car and come buy a new phone in Lugano, most of the times it's cheaper).

Average RMA return time

Guy/Gals,
Just trying to get a sense of how long a typical RMA cycle is. Please post how long in Days/Weeks/Months it took for you to get your Prime back from RMA.
I'm going through the process now and am currently waiting on my return authorization which I started yesterday.
Thanks
Seems different for everyone. Some wait a month, some 2 months, some dont get theirs for over 2 months. When I sent mine to CA for a replacement I had a new prime a week after mailing the old one. My TF101 went in for RMA recently and I didnt get it back for like 4 weeks
One other question - sorry.
Does Asus tell you what they found/fixed? It would be nice to know so we can post it here for others in the future.
It took less than a month for me (around 20 days). I am in Belgium and I had to send it to Czech republic. You will get a paper about what they did and what they changed.

Cracked screen
Had to RMA mine for not being able to charge the tablet. Got the RMA number on the 19th, sent on the 21st received on the 22nd and it only took the one day to fix it. would of gotten it back within a week but Saturday delivery wasn't selected and of course memorial day set it back one more day. Really fast on my side but I'm going to have to send it back because the right side of the screen wasn't set correctly and is bowed out just a bit and I guess when they were opening it up they pried to hard on the tabs, or whatever those things are to the left and right of the USB connector and now there's a pry mark there. not a big issue but the tablet is no longer in 100% mint condition like it was before I sent it.
Forgot to mention the tablet is also rooted on .21 and they didn't say anything about it
I sent it on 2nd april and it returned on 12th april, with easter days in between. It was sent to czech republic, that is not so far from milan. It was also rooted but i didn't have to pay anything.

Did you call them to setup the RMA or use the on-line form? I actually e-mailed them and they responded to do either. I used the on-line form but have not received an answer yet. I might have to call but I hate talking to people that just use a flow chart to do anything. Very annoying.
I had to email them twice before getting a rma number/ response.

Mine was at the service center here in Bangkok for two weeks for GPS & WiFi/BT problems (first batch.) I believe most of the delay was just waiting for the GPS dongle to arrive - when I went to pick it up with my pad, I asked if they'd fixed the WiFi/BT issue as well, which they hadn't, so they took it back and had it out to me, completely fixed, 30 minutes later.
That said, I wouldn't have known it was ready to be picked up if I hadn't called them every few days to check the status.
Never recieved anything about my on-line RMA request so I called them this morning. The customer service rep was good but you can tell she was just using a flow chart.
Shipped out my Prime today. I was suprised to get an e-mail with the postage paid by Asus via FedEx. I still had to pay for extra packing but that's OK. I hope this is a quick turn around. Wish me luck.
Sent my rma to dingotech the 9th of may, courier delivered it on the 10th,
rung them about the 18th, they said it would be finished and returned within 5 working days.
didn't hear anything about it for a week, repair agent is uncontactable by phone, and asus say that their behind by up to 3 weeks!
asus says dingotech only received it on the 28th of may, and could be up to another 3 weeks to see the end of it!!
current status according to my serial number is Repairing.
has said that since the 28th.
dingotech say they have escalated my repair as of the 1st (today) to same day diagnosis, maybe up to 3 working days if parts are required. do you think i can believe them?
the only reason i sent it in was because of the unknown serial number issue, causing OTA updates not to show up. its only 2 weeks old, before i sent it.
if only i was happy with just manual updates..... asus did ask why dont you just download them from the site.
Well it's the 6th. Asus received my Prime on Monday morning but ASUS RMA tracking shows that it has not been received. I'm calling them tomorrow but you would think their receiving software would be linked to their RMA status software somehow and update the RMA tracking database. My bet is if we could track our devices throughout the RMA process and not see major delays with no explanation the calls to Asus customer reps would be less. Asus_usa are you listening?
About 25 days
For me it only took about 2 weeks and I got it back in perfect working order. My guess is that it varies depending on what the issue is.

Just received my replacement 3d

So after getting my screen replaced and the store borked my camera and couldn't fix it they ordered me a replacement phone. I got it yesterday and 2 of the softkeys don't light up. So I call sprint to let them know so they can send another phone and they tell me i have to go to a repair store first so the store can order the phone. I told them i shouldn't need to take my own time and gas to go to a store because they sent me a defective phone. The rep agreed and is trying to get approval to send me a phone. Am I right or should I just go to a store? Has any one else had this problem?

Hell no man youre right. Why you got to spend your money for their mess up. If they want your business they need to do their end and give you a working device if thats what they said they were going to do.
I agree but theyre making it a pain in the ass. I'll hold out for them i think

ya i would try and do it that way but wouldn't spend too much time arguing.
Agreed
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA
It's a pain in the ass, however that's their policy. From their perspective, they would be wasting money if they just sent out phones to people without actually looking at them first to verify the problem. I went through the same thing with my original Evo, had 7 replacements, all had some sort of problem, and every one I had to take into the store so they could look at it.
This is why i buy from best buy. Anything is messed up, break it. $10 a month, unlimited replacements. Got my replacement in 3 days. No questions asked, took 10 minutes to get the replacement process going.
I guess ill go to a store tomorrow. I understand wanting to verify the defect but its still b.s. Defective refurbished phone right out of the box shouldn't be my problem. That's why I hate refurbs. Oh yea, and the lady I talked to today said ' let's go ahead and do a factory reset'. I told her that its always the first thing I do when I open a new phone, and this is a hardware issue not software. It made me chuckle a little.

I ordered a replacement because I have dust under the screen and the digitizer was acting up. Received a refurb in a day. Back cover was messed up, one of the lights was dim and didn't have a power button. Called Sprint and told them that I was sending it back, they said they would send another one out but expect to wait 1-2 weeks. That was 2 1/2 weeks ago. Honestly, when/if I get it, I'll probably just send it back. Have heard anything good about refurbs. Guess I can live with a little dust under my screen.
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA
Good day, the issue isn't with the refurbs per se. I got a 3D on launch day, 2 months later had to replace it and am still on the "refurb" Sprint sent. It has to do with the original issue, based on this is what gets refurb'ed, new housing and on its way. After a POST (power on self test). The service & repair locations are limited to what can be done. I'm a repair technician and do anything but repair most of the time. We're no longer allowed to solder anything, parts allocation is horrendous and to top things off we have at best 2 hours to try to duplicate the issue. Sorry for venting guys, I hear this all day, every day. I didn't refurb it myself and if it left our doors I have to disassemble and inspect, also there's 3-6 phones queued up. Most stores have 3 techs to cover a 7day work week and indirect dealers (I work for one) have only 1, working open to close 6 days a week.
Had to get my first refurbished replacement a couple weeks ago. It was garbage. Kept freezing and restarting. Did several factory resets from bootloader, and it didn't fix it. Asked for another one. Got it in the mail, ordered my EVO 4G LTE, and now my refurbished EVO 3D is on Craigslist. I'm done with it.
I'm close to that point too.

Yeah, I've replaced my evo 3d twice, my wife has had to replace her shift once. It seems like it is worth getting the sprint warranty add-on when buying HTC phones...

Same here. I canceled insurance long ago. Had to have my original EVO replaced once due to bad usb port. $35 and I was on my way. The only phone I ever had to replace on a constant basis was the touch pro..that thing was ****. That was the last phone I insured.
