Question regarding freezing an app - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
When you freeze an app using Titanium, is it removed from the app drawer? If it does, I guess when you unfreeze it, it reappears?

[Q] How do I remove app from MY APPS?

Hi guys,
I've downloaded and installed an app from the market.
I don't like it, so I remove it.
I install a new ROM and then restore all my settings using my google account, and the app is re-installed as it is listed in the MY APPS section of Market.
My question is, how I can remove this app from this list in MY APPS to avoid the app getting auto-installed?
Cheers chaps

Root sms/mms backup?

Hey there are many SMS back up apps but honestly they all suck. Is there a root SMS backup app out there? Or at least one that is really fast?

You need to Freeze the App first and then do the Restore of the Data.
Just use SMS backup and restore, I use it everytime I flash a rom
I need to stop unintentionally stealing peoples sigs

Cheers mate. I use Titanium and had the same issue with the default messenger not seeing the restore but once I installed a third party messenger app both could see them. I will keep this in mind for future flashing.

What's the best way to uninstall a corrupted app that can't be uninstalled normally?

Once in a while, an app gets corrupted such that trying to access it in the apps manager crashes the apps manager - thus, it can't be uninstalled normally.
I've noticed that sometimes when this happens, the name of the app in the apps manager changes as well (from the friendly name to the internal one - like com.developername.appname).
What's the best way to uninstall a corrupted app like this? Is there a good app to handle situations like this, or is it best to do it by hand - in which case, what's the procedure?
Is it just a matter of deleting anything that seems related in /data/app, /data/app-private, and /data/data?
What kind's of app crashes? If it is a system app then sometimes a Factory Reset could solve the problem, but not for good. Are you rooted? If you are rooted you could flash a new ROM. Sometimes stock ROM's aren't always the most stable. If you are not rooted then I would try to get root. Hope this helps
Oh, we're not talking about anything catastrophic that would require flashing a new ROM. Just regular misbehaving user-installed apps.
What's the best way to deal with those?

Guess you didn't read the first post.
The point was that these were corrupted apps, and going into them from the apps manager would crash the apps manager.
If u can see the app in app manager, then first clear the data, then uninstall it. If that does work, clear the data again, power cycle the phone, then uninstall it.

My bad, I missed that . Yes, you could delete them from /data/app/ (and check if their folder still exists in /data/data/. If so, delete that too).
Or you could use Titanium Backup

When I had this happen, I could see the app in the list of apps, but as soon as I tried to go into it, that's when the app manager would crash.

I tried. It seemed to freeze Titanium Backup. Although the item dissappeared from the apps list once I force quit titanium Backup, I don't actually know if it was properly uninstalled.
In case it happens again, I just wanted to know the best way to handle it.

com.google.android.maps Removal

Hello people
I have just installed google maps and street view (these are system apps you know and cant be un-installed normally). So i used "Root Uninstaller Pro" to remove them. It did remove them, but now i had four strange apps in my app drawer. When i click them, it says not responding. I am also unable to remove them from "Root Uninstaller" since they are not listed there.
So can anyone please tell me how do i remove these apps?
The app names are-->
com.google.android.maps.Latitude
com.google.android.maps.Place
com.google.android.maps.Drive
com.google.android.maps.maps
Thanks for helper

Do you have root?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Yes. They appear in app drawer.
Yes. My phone is rooted ofcourse, that was why i was able to use Root Uninstaller.
One thing, when i restarted my phone, those apps are removed from app drawer. Does that mean they are removed from system too?
Yes. I believe so.

If you have root you can check in system/app with a file manager I use root explorer. But if they're gone it's been uninstalled.

I have nearly the same problem, i disabled them but on every restart the y come back.
Simply use TitaniumBackup to freeze or uninstall the apps.
Thanks for help buddies. They are finally gone

Have been using TiB for 2 years now and never had a problem because of frozen apps. But you have to know which app to freeze. Freezing is just like uninstalling so be careful with system apps. Normally rather than freeze, I just uninstall apps and restore from backup with data if required. But you can freeze apps like Maps, may be useful for that.

It also helps if You have multiple launchers, You could freeze the launchers which You don't use, Which will lead to a better battery life and user experience
Always making a backup before doing anything helps a lot .. You'll need it trust me ^_^
