I'm just about to sell my Galaxy S2 so just wondering how to revert it to stock? It's currently on CheckROM v6.
Cheers

In CWRecovery; format cache, data, system, & internal sd card. In Odin, flash stock rom. Then jig or Triangle Away to reset flash counter. Done. That's what I'd do if I was selling it or sending it in for warrant service.

You missed a point. Triangle Away needs root. So use it first, then do all the other steps

Also you can be sure everything is stock as per youor country/region, if Samsung Kies recognizes your phone and says "Update available" or "This is the latest firmware".

I've found the guide to restore to stock firmware here:
http://www.androidnz.net/2012/01/restoring-your-samsung-galaxy-s2-back.html
And the list of stock firmwares here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
Just one n00b question, though.. How do I know which stock ROM to flash on to the phone? I'm in Australia and it came from Vodafone stock (but was unlocked).
Regards.

I looked for the CSC for Australia and it's XSA, so any device in Australia would I guess be that. The firmware below is single CSC, so it's only for Australia. It's Android 2.3.6 Unbranded.
GT-I9100_XSA_I9100XWKK2_I9100XSAKK1_I9100XXKI
Steps to flashing back to stock:
1. If you've got the yellow triangle, remove it with Triangle Away..
2. Put the phone into download mode (volume down + home button + power button)
3. Open Odin v1.85 You'll see in the white box when the device is plugged in and also in download mode a message saying "Added!"
4. Select the firmware you downloaded, extract to to see the GT-I9100_XSA_I9100XWKK2_I9100XSAKK1_I9100XXK.tar.md5 file.
5. Select PDA in Odin, select the file you now extracted.
6. Start flashing.
PS. You need to wipe/data cache after doing this or before else you'll be stuck in a bootloop. That can either be done in CWM, or the stock recovery.
Odin will take about 2 minutes for the whole process and you'll be back to stock.
Hope I helped.

That's fantastic, thanks so much for that Nicholas. I'll give that a go once my sluggish internet decides to download the file! Have a good weekend mate. :good:

Okay, so I can't install TriangleAway apk. I've tried putting it on my SD card and flashing it from CWM, and also by flashing it straight from the internet explorer on my phone.
When I look at TriangleAway in Google Play it says:

Any ideas, guys? I've got someone buying my phone in the next 2 days and need to revert it back to stock and remove all my data from it! :fingers-crossed:

...

Thanks for the quick reply.
I just tried Mounting /System and installing the .apk from Root Explorer and I still get the same parsing error.
Is there a different TriangleAway version I could download perhaps?
Cheers for the assistance.

I think if you flash stock firmware with Odin you do not get a yellow triangle.

Revert to Stock from CM9
I have an International Galaxy S2 i9100 and have been using cm9 for quite some and i would like to revert/restore back to stock rom.....
Can someone please help as to steps to go about for safe restore to stock rom.

Is it possible to restore a stock rom onto my S2 without using the USB port/ODIN?
My S2 has a faulty USB port that only works for charging (sometimes if I wiggle the cable around), cannot transfer data over the usb cable at all and will not connect to my pc so doubt it is going to work with ODIN.
I can transfer files to the phone using airdroyd and can flash using Rom Manager, will this return it to the standard rom if I flash the correct ROM onto it?
Is there anything else I need to do?
Thanks

Yes, you can.
Use Mobile Odin app (requires root). It works like Odin, but u don't need a PC for that!
And avoid using ROM Manager. Many people have had issues using it before.

Hi guys
I'd like to do a factory restore to stock (full wipe) from rooted Vanilla Rootbox ROM V4.2 (JB 4.2.2) Do I just reflash a stock ROM from SamMobile?
I've been flashing custom ROMs for a while but something is screwy and unstable now and I get a "UID errors" message on boot-up so I want to start from scratch, then reroot and reload the custom ROM again.
Many thanks in advance.

Can't Flash Clockwork Recovery!!! HALP!

So I recently upgraded from my SE x8 to an SGS2 (HUZZAH!)
I flashed an insecure Kernal (XKWF3 I believe) and Rooted using S2 Root 1.5.1.
I install Rom Manager and attempt to flash Clockwork Recovery, I select Samsung Galaxy S2, It downloads fine and I grant it SuperUser rights, I go to backup/boot into recovery and I get an error (red text);
"E:Failed to verify whole-file signature
failed to verify signature"
(Im not 100% sure on that wording but i believe it is correct)
Any ideas on what i might have done wrong or any way to fix it?
P.s. I'm on the Virgin(Optus) network in Australia, I have tried to reinstall/reflash several times to no avail.
Thanks in Advance :]
Just flash the cf-root kernel, that's all, and don't use rom manager.

First step - is to chiiilll You wont have broken anything permanently.
1) Download a stock firmware from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
2) You can get into download mode by pressing and holding: Volume Down + Home + Power. (Then you press volume up when prompted to continue)
3) Make sure kies is installed and fire up Odin.
4) Flash the rom in the "PDA" section (instructions are in the thread).
5) Your phone should boot fine after this.
From there you should flash chainfires kernel (as suggested above) using odin under "PDA" section.
Your phone will have CWM/Root. And you should be all good
Best of luck

hello,
my phone is acting wierd
it boots till that yellow caution incon then again restarts
i was on rootbox and installed cm7 and not booting to recovary but can boot into download mode
after rebooting this happed
some one please help me
thank you
Are you still on CM7?
Does it still go into recovery? Have you tried clearing data/cache?
How much battery was it on when this happened? If low leave it charging for a bit and then try it on whilst charging.
Try a stock samsung firmware if anything else fails to let it boot.
Hi
what i did is
used rom cleaning script and installed CM7 and gave reboot
phone turns on till that yellow triangle (main screen where samsung S2 comes) and restarts
cant go to recovary mode
from where can i download odin flashables?
should i try flashing with odin is it safe?
please im not in position to buy a phone
Have you tried to go to the stock rom first?
1. Download the stock rom of your phone. 4.0.3
2. Download Odin
3. press the sleep buttom, home buttom and the volume up.
4. wipe the cache and do a factory reset after that turn off your phone. (alternative)
5. Press sleep buttom, home buttom and volume down then you'll get to download mode.
6. put in the usb cabel on your phone and the pc.
7. Then it will connect to the pc and odin.
8. extract the stock rom and have it on your desktop.
9. now on odin press on PDA and select the file.
10.now press start.
Everything should go smooth so after that you can install cf root and if you did a backup you can restore it, unless you had it on the internal storage.
(dont forget to do a nandroid or cwm backup before installing rom into your external storage!
i dont know from where i can get odin flashables
i called my phone and got build info
Android 4.0.3
IML7K.XWLP7
DDLPA
My phone : I9100
Country : India
Thank you
If you skip the recovery part you should be able to restore internal backup
Did you wipe data when you flashed cm7?
Its necessary.

Phone not turning on after factory reset

Hi all,
I've been having a few issues with my S2 (Randomly resetting, freezing, etc) - so I decided to do a factory reset - but it hasn't worked.
When I turn my phone on, it wont go past the galaxy logo. I've tried holding down VOLUME UP, POWER, and HOME - but it doesn't boot it into recovery mode.
I've downloaded odin (the phone is rooted) and was told to download a new ROM and then use the PDA button on odin. But the only file type it expects is MD5, tar and SMD. Whenever I download a ROM, I just get a ZIP?
I'm probably being stupid. Could someone point me in the right direction? I don't care if I lose data, I just want the phone working.

What ROM do you want to flash?
If it's a stock ROM, then extract the zip file and flash the contained tar/md5 file with Odin.
If it is a custom ROM and only provided as CWM-flashable zip file, then use a stock ROM to flash first and flash the custom ROM afterwards, when everything works again.
Here you can get the latest stock ROMs => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487, or pre-rooted stock ROMs from here => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1608071, or use Check Fus Downloader from here => http://fus.nanzen.se/ to check for the latest officiallly released firmware versions for your phone in your region and download it directly from Samsung servers.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I don't care which ROM I use - As long as I get the phone working again. I did download 7comp ROM but I couldn't find any .tar files?
I also converted the ZIP to a TAR but odin isn't picking it up ?!
OK - I've downloaded and installed the latest stock ROM you posted.
It seems to have installed, but doesn't go past the splash screen which says samsung galaxy Sii
Any ideas?

Attempted to root the phone but it didn't work.
I followed a set of instructions, and was asked to wait for the phone to reboot. It now has the "!" rooted icon but won't go past the rooted screen.
System restore and clearing cache doesn't set it back to factory default. Any ideas?

Sorry for late reply. I followed a video on youtube showing you how to root the phone. It looked succesfull as the "!" did appear, but it wouldn't go past that.
So I rolled it back using the original ROM and have given up on rooting it. It's a shame as I really liked Jelly Bean

All I can do is download a rom which is in zip format, but i know odin does not support .zip but it supports .tar, so how can i download rom in .tar, also does it matter if I flashed the rom which is not meant for my region?(I mean I dont know my phone's PDA and I am not able to decide which firmware to download since every firmware has its own specific PDA)... Yes, I'll be going back again to custom rom after I make it work...haha
AFAIK a rom for another country wont break your phone, but be careful with 4.0.4 roms because of the brickbug

PD: if the downloaded file is .zip and not .tar, just extract the zip and u'll get the .tar

Parameter is incorrect error can be caused by either of two reasons
1 . something is wrong with the file you downloaded try re downloading
2.Kies is interfering with Odin, terminate Kies from the background by using the task manager.
Using GT - I9100
Just hit the damn help button if I helped you.

Hey guys. I own the Samsung galaxy sIII (gt i9300) . I have very recently rooted it and installed cyanogenmod 10.1.
Now the cyanogenmod is nice but it still has a lot of bugs and it lacks in a lot of aspects in comparison to the stock rom (i.e. touchwiz) as touchwiz has a lot of nifty features like smart view, smart stay , multi window etc
Now i would like to unroot my device and go back to the stock rom which was jb 4.1.2 .
Is it possible to downgrade from 4.2 to 4.1.2 ?
if yes then a complete tutorial would be highly appreciated for my problem . Thanks in advance.
Yes, it's possible to go back, and for ease, I recommend wiping the FULL internal storage. You can always flash a 4.1.2 rom with Odin for PC.
It's not necessary to unroot just because you want to go back to the stock firmware. Or do you want to be able to get FOTA's?
1. Go here and select your OS, phone and region and then download the corresponding firmware: http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3
2. Unpack it with WinRAR, 7zip or what you use.
3. Unpack the "Odin_3.04 files.zip" or whatever zip is alongside the odin tar file.
4. Boot your phone into download mode by holding Power+Home+Down button until the download mode appears, select yes/continue to go to the actual download/ODIN mode
5. Open ODIN and check if your phone's found. There should be a blue windows with some text in it like "COM:0" and that it says "connected" or "found" in the output window.
6. Click the PDA button and add your tar file which you extracted,¨
7. Make sure that "F. Reset Time" and "Auto Reboot" both are ticked an NO OTHER BUTTON WHATSOEVER!
8. When your firmware has successfully flashed and your phone reboots, force it to reboot into recovery mode by pressing and holding power+home+volume up and in the recovery select to factory reset by formatting/wiping data. BEWARE: This will format your entire internal memory, but is actually worth it when going from 4.2 to 4.1.2 since 4.2 has a different internal structure.
Sorry for threadjack, but i posted something almost identical to this 6 min after your thread

you'll also lose root access by going back to a stock rom.

If you had read the entire OP, you'd have seen he actually wants to unroot.

Okay and just to double check, theres no need of using nandroid backup right? because i read it somewhere that if you downgrade from 4.2 to 4.1.2 then the phone goes into an endless bootloop

Only use triangle away if you're gonna send the phone in for repair.
err so if you flash a stock rom via ODIN over CM10.1 that's not unrooting? when you flash a stock rom you do lose root access. i've flashed my S3 back to ICS and JB a few times to get the damn firmware changes i needed and every time i wanted to go back to CM10.1 I had to reroot the phone.

Durr, obviously it removes root as it overwrites the system and the stock firmware you're flashing doesn't have the root files in there. However, if you use mobile odin as I use, you have an option to let it root for you.

I have CM 10.1 with CWM Recovery. How to go back to complete stock to get FOTA? What has to done for that?
Can i downgrade cyanogenmod 10.1(4.2.2) to cyanognmod 10(4.1.2) by just flashing through cwm? Been having problems with my headphones during viber, skype and phone calls woth my samsun galaxy tab 2 p3100. The person im callin cannot hear me. And after removing, the problem persist until u reboot and goes back to normal.
yes. wipe data
Wow...a bit confused here
So, if I'm running CM 10.1 and want to go back to stock rom, rooted. I can't just clear cache/dalvik and flash the CWM recovery-lte-sgs3-sprint-v5.zip then flash Galaxy-s-fre3-md4firmaremodemAIO.zip ??

I was aware it was the I9300 forum, but I had hoped it was a basic enough question.

It's not. How would we know anything about:
recovery-lte-sgs3-sprint-v5.zip
or
Galaxy-s-fre3-md4firmaremodemAIO.zip
?
Back to the basics

Maybe because it is the basic recovery file and firmware file.
