I love my photon with a passion except for the bloat ware. I want the stock android launcher on my phone. I hate the moto crap. I want to run everything straight google on my device with out rooting. But if their is a 100% vanilla rom out there that be nice too.

This can only be done with root. But honestly rooting takes 5 minutes and can be reversed so there is no reason not to. Universal deblur, compliments of lokifish.

Not possible, if you are on the latest OTA update. And you'd loose 4G if it was possible

He's right. That is an unlocked rom, and you can't unlock if you have taken the 2.3.5 update.

ok, dont bite my head off but............
what does this mean exactly?
cant root?
cant load apps?
sorry, i'll always be a noob at this stuff.
well, with my Atrix, until we get our bootloader bypass straightened out, we're just running Pseudo-ROMs right now (AOSP SMS, Gingerbread theme, etc.)
I'm not sure how this will affect your root though? I know that even my Inspire was a b**** to root, and all I had to do for my Atrix was SuperOneClick.

It'll be like the DX/D2. No custom kernels, no totally getting rid of Sense if you don't want it, etc. With root you can remove bloat from /system/app. But like I said, not sure if this will affect root or not.

Yes, but look at the all the development for the Motorola devices. The Atrix, it seems like, is the only device that seems like it has a chance to run custom kernels besides the OG Droid.
The Defy has 2nd init running, which allows for ROMs, but not kernels.
Evo 3D devs have a lot of work to do if they wanna crack this, I think.

We should be able to get partial root, similar to what was originally released from unrevoked. No custom kernals or ROMs, but you will be able to run any app that requires root as well as remove anything from the ROM that requires root access i.e. remove from system/app

Yes, but sbf can still be done to root again.

Every android device could be rooted, practically if you know mac, or linux its just typing su (super user, and i believe it might be sudo (superuser do)) does that answer the question, if not then yes
No word about MP3 or video recording issues, either that or I just read too fast and missed it
I think the OP's question was, can he update, or will he receive an update notice if his phone is rooted? I would like to know this as well.
Also, I am confused or not reading a clear answer, will this version be rootable? I think it is 2.3.3...Gingerbread.
I like root on my X2 too much to update right now if there is no root.
Thanks in advance for any clear answers and explanations.
I am so excited I am going to start my sbf now. If they are posting it on their website they have to be really close with it.

I'm about to do the same!
Gingerbreak used to work for rooting Gingerbread but they fixed the exploit in the latest versions. So right now there isn't any way to root. Your best bet is to wait for a custom rom to come out with Gingerbread pre-rooted.
Hey guys my buddy has his Verizon Galaxy s (Fascinate) and wants it rooted so i can throw miui on it for him. What the best most current way and if theres a one click that would be great. Thanks a lot guys, enjoy your new years!

Find my guide in the general section and look up section5
You do not need to root to install Miui.
There are reasons to root a stock rom, but there seems to be a general misconception on why you root, and when to root.

This!!! I missed the miui part....yea no need to root if your flashing a custom rom!!!
I think a lot of people are used to other phones like HTC and Motorola where you have to be rooted to flash roms. I thought it was weird too when I first got the fascinate coming from those other brands. I like that Samsung leaves the security essentially wide open on their devices.
Yeah I have a evo 3d running miui and my buddy wants it. What's the way you guys recommend

lol wow i had no idea that you did not have to be rooted, like the above guy said im a HTC guy and its just the way im used to doing things.
My buddy is jumping up and down right now like a little douche nozzle.
If he still wants to root, SuperOneClick is the easiest. Just make sure usb debugging is on.
Just Odin cwm4 fixed for cm7. Then flash miui in cwm. Su is preinstalled on miui.

How are we going to get root once ics drops? Since we limited development here, I'm just curious. Who gonna do it? Ill hold off on updating until we do...
Simple. Don't OTA update. Wait till a rooted ICS ROM is released.

Let's just hope htc doesn't pull a moto(see dx forums.... ), and Bork our ability to root or reflash anything...
I'm sure some one will come up with a manual root which eventually will lead to a one click.....

Haha. when someone makes a root that uses ADB, I will try to make a .bat script so you just press one button and it'll do the rest.
When I upgrade to the amaze, and I get the ics update on my amaze and my girls amaze, I probably won't even root it again if ics runs really good and smooth.

root is ALWAYS a must man! if we had better development, i wouldnt mind just staying with gb and flashing whatever, but since we dont, we NEED root for ics when it drops!
Sometimes I wonder about you people, lol.
The only way to have root now (with /system r/w) is to unlock the bootloader, install a custom recovery, and run a VERY simple script to change the su binary, and add the su.apk. This isn't going to change with ICS, it will be JUST as simple as it is now.

The atrix is projected to get it a month or two before we do, so that's what were waiting for. What we need is for anyone on complete stock to use cheesecake to check the moto servers every couple of days as that is where we normally get leaked updates.

Im not entirely sure. I know that users of MOFs 2.3.5ish rom are unable to hit the server appropriately and that is as close to stock as possible (ie, no custom kernel, no unlock) except for being rooted. Then again, MOF could have made other changes im not aware of that could possible break the ability. I would say, if you are stock and rooted, try it. If that doesnt work, we know you must be completely stock.

That's where you have to be careful. Sometimes updates will download and want to automatically install.
There are a few threads here explaining how to download and extract the updates. I've never gone that far myself.

Does it matter that i am still on 2.3.4 because i don't want to update the firmware and lose the ability to unlock the bootloader if i please.
