Hello guys, I'll describe my situation here before getting dirty with the phone:
Phone: Xperia Neo MT15i
Android Version: 4.0.4 (Via PC Companion)
V. Kernel: Stock 2.6.329-perf compilation 4.1.B.0.431
A nice detail here, I had signal
The mobile was bought "free", I had different SIMs from different companies and that worked nice.
I unlocked the bootloader via the official way from the sony web, it went well. (I read in some posts that I lost my DRM, it scares the s**t out of me because I really don't know what is that)
Then I entered fastboot and type fastboot boot boot.img, this boot.img is the NeoRecovery.img, which contains CWM.
Then i insalled de super user.zip for beeing root, AND THAT'S IT.
Now, I have my rooted 4.0.4 with NO SIGNAL.
I insert my PIN code, then I get prompted with the Language selection menu, and then the following message:
Please insert SIM card and restart your phone
All this steps OVER AND OVER AGAIN
(I've tried with 3 different SIMs, and I can't even register in my network)
I've searched a lot, and don't know what to do here. Some help would be nice!
Thanks!!
Not sure about no signal problem, but interesting is that you get setup wizard every time, if I understood you ok.
Go to settings->backup&reset-> and do factory reset, it will wipe your data, so make backup.

Hello Madfysh, I wiped my data a few times (also from CWM) and still nothing
The worst part is that now PCC won't fix my device, so I don't know where to head next.
Should I try a custom kernel..? Should I re-lock my bootloader (how?) and trying from PCC?
Thanks!
EDIT: After some loops, I decided to flash my phone with the MT15_4.1.B.0.431_Global.ftf file using flashtool verison 0.9.0.0, I think that contains the ROM only, because the kernel that I'm using is still the same. Nothing new I'm afraid
well, you can relock it, and use PCC. Always good step in solving the problems, first try with stock reflash, then move on
How to relock, you can find in Neo V dev section, sticky thread.
Many thanks for the information, I'm going to try it right now.
Excuse me for asking but do you know if re-locking may cause brick / not entering fastboot again / not beeing able to unlock again?
Thanks!

I didn't hear that happened to someone.
Well finally I got it working, re-locking the bootloader did the trick.
Thanks Madfysh you're awesome. :good:

Interesting..
Flashing .ftf didn't help, but re-locking did, right?
isnt relocking done by flashing ftf alone?

If that was toward me, by .ftf i meant on entire .ftf which he mentioned in his post, not on the relock .ftf.

Hello and merry xmas!
I had some trouble with my Neo phone, would not start and so after i tried to fix and flash it.
So i used the FlashTool_0.2.9.1_FOTAUnbrick to get it up again
i just connected the phone, and clicked flash, and it was up
But now it wants to update to 4.0.2.A.0.42, says only pc companion can do it. So i tried but got a error after a while. and it it bricked the phone again.. had to use flashtool to get up again.
Its up, but still wants to update to 4.0.2.A.0.42.
My phone WAS rooted before all trouble, and it worked fine for a long time, until the SE Neo launcher started to loop like crazy.
I also tried to root it again, both with superoneclick, and Flashtool-0.5.0.0.
And once i tried the Repair phone by pc companion, it starts to download.. but at the end, it says it cant, and bricking my phone (again)...
What now?? Would really have the latest software as i had, and to install my titanium backup pro to get all things as they was... or can i forget it?
Try updating it with SEUS !

Hi,
I am not sure how to get it into recovery mode. I googled, and it only gave some Cm 7 recover mode. Sorry, pretty new at this :-/
But have not tried factory reset. Hope it will help.. Or it will "delete/brick" my ROM again..
I just do not understand how it got downgraded after all this trouble, and my failed flashing.

Factory reset made it only start looping on and off with "sony ericsson" on the screen...
4.0.2.A.0.42
flash it manually with flashtool, will fix all problems.
So this is what i have for now:
Factory reset = bricked.. did not worked
Flashing failed at userdata with Flashtool = Bricked
But i manage to get it running again by flashing it with loader.sin with FlashTool_0.2.9.1_FOTAUnbrick.
Android 2.3.4 - Build number 4.0.1.A.0.283 - Up and running
OTA says it wanna download 4.0.2.A.0.42 = (but it did not download 165 mb as SEUS below here says) Downloaded pretty fast (i have only 2MB line), asked me to install. Clicked install, phone reboots, and failed. It Says: Could not install new software version, try again. I retried 3 times. same error. But not bricked this time.
Installed SEUS v.2.11.12.9 , doing a Update as recommended by program (not the Update and factory reset), downloading 165,2 MB (takes time.. OTA was done in 2 minutes seconds, so something wrong there)
But Success with updating with SEUS !
But phone is not rooted anymore. And i'm not sure i wanna do it... thou my Titanium backups is very tempting :-/
Can someone tell me if i need more then a rooted phone to use WOTAN flash tool?
Cus it is always stops halfway with an error.
I currently have 2.3.4 - build 4.0.2.A.0.42
I also tried other flash tools, same error..

No you don't need an unlocked bootloader to use wotan, just register download the wotan client and use your registration details to login and flash
I did try that, and it always fails at flashing userdata (number 9 i think), then i brick phone.
And the i always have to use FlashTool FOTAUnbrick and loader.sin to get it up and running again.
I also tried flashtool with 2.3.4 ROM..same error.. fails after a while and brick it..
strange !

Thanks, but that's the one i already have for unbricking my phone.
My bootloader is not unlocked, so i do not understand.
What i did today was i tried to use Wotan, selected ROM, it's starting the flashing, and fails on userdata.
I disconnected phone, started it, and its bricked.. (shows the triangle with phone in-front of it.)
I start up FlashTool_0.2.9.1_FOTAUnbrick as administrator, click on flash, load loader.sin, connect phone, it takes 5 sec, it says its done, and phone up again.
Of course all userdata is gone, i have to restore all kind of apps from titanium backup and so..
Phone is ok.... but many apps keeps on crashing. For example sms, dialer and so.. until i restore i older backup from titanium, but it lasts only a day or two after using, so i have to repeat it often. That's why i wanna install a fresh ROM all over again.
I am pretty new at this, but learned a lot last weeks by failing
I may be wrong but to me this sounds like you may have broke the bootloader.

Shameless crosspost from the tutorial-thread for installing Cyanogenmod on the Neo over at the Cyanogenmod forums.
Hi! I'm quite new to rooting and flashing my device (started reading and doing it yesterday), but I really want to make it work now, but I can't seem to get it working.
I have no problems rooting my phone or installing ClockWorkMod, but I can't seem to get it to run neither a custom kernel nor a custom ROM.
I have a SE Xperia Neo, and have both followed the mentioned tutorial, and tried other methods (some pulled straight out of my ass) to flash my device, but no matter what I do, ecxept flashing to a stock ROM of Android (I think that's what it is called?), it always freeze on the Sony Ericsson logo, right after the FreeXperia logo, and I have to do a hard shutdown (pop out the battery and replace it again) to get it to do something else. However, when frozen, both Flashtool and SuperOneClick is able to root the system at this point, so it isn't frozen, but it never goes on doing something, either. I guess it's just trying to boot a (incompatible) ROM.
My bootloader is unlocked (I just checked).
I've tried following the mentioned tutorial with both a phone flashed with 4.0.2.A.0.42 and 4.0.1.A.0.283 (read somewhere those were the best supported or best to use for this?). I've tried flashing the boot.img from the Cyanogen-zipfile to the phone (went well) on both; I've tried repeatedly pressing the volume down key both on boot and on the FreeXperia screen; I've tried to flash boot.img to the phone, rooting i, using both SuperOneClick and Flashtool then installing the ClockWorkMod (as I couldn't get to the recovery screen). And, I've followed the tutorial between two and three times with both 4.0.2.A.0.42 and 4.0.1.A.0.283. I have no idea what to try next.
Does anybody here have a clue for me? Should I try flashing with another Android version running on my phone (if so: which)?

Anw, since you see free xperia logo that means you flashed kernel(or at least boot with that kernel) with success.
Q1: You say you pressed volume-, have you tried with pressing back repeatedly? or by taping on screen? or repeatedly pressing power button?
Q2: show me instruction which you used to flash kernel?
Q3: you said you installed CWM trough flashtool, does that mean you manage to enter CWM eventually or not?
Q4: show the link of what you are trying to install.

I did not install CWM through Flashtool. However, when not following the tutorial I mentioned, I installed CWM Recovery using a modded installer. IIRC it was modded by DoomLord, but I can't find the link for it. When using a stock ROM, I boot into CWM Recovery with ease by repeatedly pressing the volume down key.

And, by the way, Madfysh, thank you for caring enough to taking your time to try and bend your mind to understand my problems. If I knew your reddit username, I'd stalk you and upvote everything.
Only things I can think of is:
1) make 100% sure you are writing fastboot flash boot boot.img and not fastboot boot boot.img
Sometimes people write wrongly without noticing, and after few posts they realize they wrote wrong instructions.
2) try repeatedly pressing other keys, each time your phone starts with that kernel, try pressing one key.
3) try FREEXPERIA RELEASE INSTALLATION from same link.
I will try everything you've suggested, Madfysh, and report back after trying.

As the download link was not working/outdated, I tried another kernel/ROM-combo, that worked. Now I'll try and see if I can find a ROM that I really like and use that instead of Cyanogenmod, as it looks like it don't play well with my phone at this point. Thank you for taking your time to try to help me, Madfysh. You're the best!
I still don't know about any rooting process and there was a lot of instructions I can't understand. Almost all of them are in shortcuts. I tried searching but almost all of it was too much complex for me. Computer illiterate here. >_<
I tried rooting my phone when it was still .42 using the one with zergrush. And now I updated my phone via PCC the root was gone. And I can't seem to root again via same method.
I downloaded things I saw here like the flash tool, fast boot, cwm and I don't gave a single clue how to use them right and there was this OTA or OTE updating to .62 which I don't understand what it is. I'm afraid I may do something bad to my phone.
Is there a way to root my phone again without unlocking the bootloader? Seems like on some of what I understand you have to unlock it, to use fastboot, flashtool or CWM. But I'm afraid to do it. Can you help me with the clearest instruction on how can I root my phone again? Thanks. And sorry for being ignorant with this things >_<

Why creating new thread? I see you already know much, so that means you read some threads, so why starting new one in stead of replying in existing one?
OTA update is Over The Air update, meaning you need to use update center option in your setttings->about phone, not using pc companion or seus.

1) better to bump older thread(even though I'm sure it was already bumped ) than to create new thread, because that way you spread information on more places, instead of one place
2)fastboot mode: phone turned off, while holding menu, key connect cable, blue LED should turn on.
3)flashmode: phone turned off, while holding back key, connect cable, green LED should go on.
4)CWM can be installed even on locked bootloader, but you need to have root to install CWM
5)how to enter CWM? that depends on CWM, on some you need to press repeatedly back key while booting, some pressing volume-, on some you need to tap on screen.
6)you can flash any fw, whether you use flashtool(link to tutorial) and flash .ftf file, or using wotan-server(easier for new guys)

As you already noticed(by your experience) you can't root .62. So flash .42, root, and do OTA update.

No, it has nothing to do with unlocking your bootloader. If you were using flashtool you probably didn't plug it in in the correct mode.
As for unlocking your bootloader, read the instructions on any ROM's OP. It will tell you whether it needs an unlocked bootloader or not. Sony stock based ROMs sometimes do and sometimes don't. AOSP based ROMs do need an unlocked bootloader as that is needed to flash a custom kernel. If you do want to unlock your bootloader, read up on how to root your device first without unlocking and then read up on how to back up the TA partition of your device. This partition is effectively your warranty and contains the DRM keys to all of Sony's proprietary software. If you unlock your bootloader without a backup, you lose your DRM keys and they are non retrievable. Thus, if you want to send the device off for a repair, without restoring the TA partition you cannot restore your warranty and it will be declined. Having your TA partition backed up means that if you ever need to send it off, you can restore it and this locks your bootloader and reverses any DRM key loss.

Hi guys. I've been being a XDA reader for a long time so, today I decided to register in this great community.
As a Xperia phone owner (actually, I don't own a Xperia Z2 but I thought I rather post this question in this subforum since it's a general Xperia phones question and Z2 subforum is crowded, lol), I would like to know which flashing method is more effective when trying to recover a bricked phone: 'fastboot mode' or 'flash mode'.
I ask this question because my Xperia M2 is stuck in bootloop (I can power it on and both Sony and Xperia logo appears but when the "purple waves screen" appears, handset does nothing else, just keeps showing that purple screen with waves in motion).
I've been trying out to flash a .FTF file with Flashtool but to no avail. Once process is finished and reboot my phone, it gets stuck at same "purple waves screen".
The problem is that the bootloader isn't unlockable unless I send my phone to Sony Technical Service to change "Unlock Bootloader Allowed" to Yes (they can do it for free since my contract with carrier is finished). But before doing so (in order to enable fastboot commands), I would like to know whether or not it worths sending the phone to Sony. So:
Is there any chance I could recover my phone trying out to flash a ROM with fastboot commands enabled (bootloader unlockable and unlocked) knowing I wasn't able to recover it with 'flash mode' (flashtool)?
If so, which steps should I take? Maybe extracting .SIN files from within .FTF file? Any help would be very appreciated. Thanks in advance.
PD: Before flashtool, I also tried to recovery the phone using official PC Companion, but with same result as flashtool.
You cant realy recover a phone through fastboot (aside flashing a stock kernel.sin)
(asuming a custom kernel on LB is the cause)
There are many reasons for a brick but the most common ways of unbricking would be forcing off the device and flashing a FTF which can only be done via flashmode

Thanks for your reply, Envious_Data. If I flashed an entire ROM (.FTF Stock ROM file) with flashtool, kernel is supposed to have been replaced with stock one after the process, isn't it?
What do you suggest to do further? Firstly, I tried PC Companion. Then I tried Flashtool. My next step was going to be trying to unlock bootloader to enable fastboot commands but, from what you said, maybe that's not worth it... Any chance I could recover my phone myself without sending it to Sony? If I send it to Sony to convert BootLoader to Unlockable ("Unlock Bootloader Allowed: YES"), will the phone be recovered "collaterally" (maybe, to do so, they do a fresh ROM install and that fix the bootloop problem, I don't know, what do you think)?

They wont do that, they will refuse to help you unlock your bootloader unlockable
I recomend flashing a FULL FTF because it should fix your device if it isnt suffering hardware damage.

If your contract with carrier is finished, Sony can and, in deed, does convert the bootloader status from "Unlock Bootloader Allowed: NO" to "Unlock Bootloader Allowed: YES", but you have to send your phone to Sony Technical Service. From what I've been reading, in that process, techs do some flashing jobs, so maybe phone gets recovered collaterally... Any clue?
Have you tried waiting a bit for it to fully boot up? Seems like you just came from flashing and booting up the phone may take a while. I tried flashing LP rom earlier today, and it took me 20 mins before the phone boots up completely.

Hi das.dian24. Yes, I've been waiting for it to boot up more than 20 minutes, even 30 or 40 mins, but no luck. It's so weird. I can't believe I can't fix this bootloop problem flashing the phone either with flash mode or with fastboot mode. I don't think that's a hardware problem.

Now thats really weird, i only experienced this kind of bootloop when i mistakenly formatted /system and forgot to flash any rom after that. Maybe not a hardware problem since the phone boots up til bootanimation and the fact that u can flash roms successfully.

Maybe, if I manage to unlock bootloader, I could recover my phone just flashing system.sin through fasboot mode with "fastboot flash system system.sin" command... What do you guys think?
