SGS3 problem with losing all sounds - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I bought recently the new SGS3 and after a week or two of using I noticed the phone loses all the sounds despite all of them are turned on and not being on minimum. After a while the sounds get back and everything works fine. At first I thought it might be from the settings because I set up silent mode for all notifications and I thought it may turn all the sounds off, despite it normally shouldn't. After playing for a while with the phone I realized the issue appears randomly without any reasons while I was playing game or simply navigating through the phone. If anyone had experienced the same issue or have an idea what could be the problem (software, hardware, settings, OS, etc) or how it can be solved, please respond. Any answer is appreciated as the problem is quite annoying as I'm missing calls because of it.
Thank you.
Phone details:
Samsung Galaxy S III
Android version - 4.0.4
Baseband version - I9300BOLF1
Kernel version - 3.0.15-782020
Build number - IMM76D.I9300XXBLFB
P.S. Restart of the phone doesn't help as I already tried it. The issues is related to all the sounds not to the vibration, the last works fine.

Thank you for your advise JJEgan, unfortunately it didn't help neither. Yesterday I did the factory reset and left it as it is, didn't restore any of my previous settings or apps, didn't install anything additional, just wanted to see if the problem will appear again, and unfortunately it did.
Anything else I can try or I should take it to a service?
Thank you

I have the same problem with notification sounds. The problem appears when i turn off notifications on apk like im+ or Yahoo messenger. Is there any other solution rather than factory rest?

[Q] Vibrate function doesn't work anymore, hardware issue

My SGS2 stopped vibrating. Tried flashing, un-rooting, restoring stock and factory settings. None of these worked.
I am inclined to think that it is a hardware problem.
Has anyone else been dealing with issue? I read some posts on XDA regarding this matter but they were software related as opposed to hardware. Can anyone post instructions on how to fix it or provide any solutions for this issue?
If its hardware, why not flash stock, remove binary flash count with USB jig, and return for warranty?

Cannot get jig in Palestine. Bought the phone from the UK. Sending it back will be problematic. I will look for a repair shop.
Thanks for the quick reply
That's a "bummer" (bad luck). You could make a jig, but as you said that it would be problematic to return. Hope you can sort it easily. Sorry, can't think of anything of use right now.

hey there,
i got the same problem. no more vibrating at all. not with calls or notifications and not as haptic feedback. it started today (was still working in the morning), though i did not drop the phone or anything.
i am still hoping too find that it's a sw-problem. but all potential solutions i find do not help. so i guess i have to contact samsung.
but before i do that i have to get rid of all "hacking".
could you plz tell me what i have to do?
i have now cm9 20120402 nightly.
but i still have a cwm-recovery-backup of the original touchwiz (gingerbread).
-so first i make a backup of my current rom via cwm and of all my apps via titanium and store everything on my pc.
-i flash my touchwiz-backup
-i get one of those: http://www.amazon.de/s/ref=nb_sb_no...ld-keywords=Samsung+Galaxy+S2+USB+Jig&x=0&y=0 , plug it in, wait til its done and remove it again.
after that, samsung will never know i "messed" with the phone??
or do i have to consider/do something else?
tyvm!!

I have the same issue.
When I was on my stock 2.3.5, I found a workaround:
- go into test mode (dial *#0*#)
- find the vibrate button, when you press it, it shouldn't work like you expect
- go back
- plug in your headphones and push the cable a bit to the left
- test vibrate again - this time it should work
- pull the cable out while vibrating, still pushed to the left, vibrations should stay on
I know it sounds crazy but it seems the hardware part that controls the vibrations is near to the jack port - excessive use of headphones, like it was case, must have damaged it somehow.
However, now I'm on CM9, so no test mode for me, I'm achieving the same effect by bashing the back button, so I get semi-constant vibration. I know, It's ridiculous.
Have the same problem here, I think it's software related because the shut down vibration stopped working when I flashed CM9 ICS, I can't remember if it was working anywhere else though. But now I'm back to 2.3.5 and it's not working at all. Did a Factory Reset, Cleaned Cache before and after the flash. Also used the Jig to reset my counter. Any clues?
I am experiencing the same issue.
Yesterday, I downgraded from 4.0.3 back to 2.3.5 as I was having a lot of problems with ICS. Now, my phone works fine again except for the fact that it does not vibrate anymore. (Which it did fine in 4.0.3 and before in 2.3.5)
I tried the trick Lechium06 mentioned in this thread but that did not work for me.
Anyone else having this issue? More important, anyone have a solution???

I saw something similar on CM9 thread, they said it could be a "bad flash", not a corrupted rom but the lack of proper cleanup before and after the flash. But I cleaned up everything before and after and I don't like reconfiguring the whole phone again for nothing.
it happend again.
dont recall what i did or if i did something last time at all. but it worked for over a year now. and now, my sgs2 doesnt vibrate at all, i tried all possible settings, tested with z-device and rebooted. nothing.
apprechiate any hint!
thx!!

AW: [Q] Vibrate function doesn't work anymore, hardware issue
since i had that before, i ruled out a hardware issue. it happend when i played with the system settings. but as i sayed, i tried to reverse everything i did. now after i updated to 0206 and wiped cache and dalvik, still no vibration.
is there anything i could have missed?
is there a possibility to reset all settings to default without deleting all my data?
thx,

I assume since your posting in xda developers that you are rooted?
If so, just back up data with titanium backup app and factory reset, setup system and then restore USER apps and data only.

Did you install another rom?
My vibration for example didn't work with some cm10.1 nightlies
it started in cm10.1 20130203. then i tried wipe cache and dalvik. nothing. then i updated to 0206 (wiped cache and dalvik again) > still nothing. went to bed. got up. everything ok! its vibration again! i am 100% sure, it did not work, when i left it on my desk last night. this morning, i checked for missed calls and it took a moment until i realized: i got haptik feedback back on patternunlock and keystrokes! checked ringtone-vibration: fine as well!
dont ask me how! would still like to know for myself.
thx,
kws

[Q] Volume gets low once in a while

Hi all, the matter is very simple, I have been running my Galaxy S2 perfectly for months without any problem, but recently, once in a few days, my volume gets twice lower than normal, I mean all kinds of sound ringtone, notification sound, alarm etc. I checked in settings and other volume apps but their volume bars remain unchanged, the only way is fix it (as I know now) is to clear all the cache and restart the phone, but I don't want to do that 'cause it will come back in a few days without any sign and clearing cache means I will lost some apps' history
Anyone has any clue or suffered from the same problem? 'cause I totally don't know why it's like that ???
Are you using any flip to silence software? I had a similar problem when I had Flip installed.

[Q] Sms and email notification sounds not always working

Hi Everyone,
I have switched over to the Galaxy S2 a little over a month ago. I moved from a Blackberry because of its own issues and having to reboot the phone etc.. but that is neither here nor there...
Before i updated the phone with ICS my Sms and Email notification sounds would work, all the time from what I remember. But now the phone sometimes plays the notification sounds and sometimes it doesnt. All my sounds are turned up full.
I am waiting on a loaner phone from my provider but until then I was hoping to fix it myself.
So today I did a factory reset and the phone did its thing. The notification sounds were working for the most part of the day and now I have a recieved a few texts and emails and the notification sounds didnt sound.
I have searched this problem and really have came up with nothing on this issue.
A few things i did notice though, after i did a factory reset on the phone that when it completed it still had the ICS op on the phone, shouldnt the factory reset have "re-formated" the phone and brought it down to gingerbread?
I apologize if this is lengthy but it is better to tell the issues and what I have done to try and rectify the issues incase some of the things that I have done is what would be suggested.
Thanks for any suggestions and help
Ok i figured out the problem... in the developer options i had selected kill processes after use. When i unchecked it the sound notifications for sms worked properly again.
Problem solved.

[SOLVED] Phone gets FC on incoming calls

Hey everybody.
My girlfriend is having a terrible problem with her new Xperia Go. It's running the latest Stock Firmware and Kernel without Root and every time she gets an incoming call, the phone won't react for about 15 seconds and then a FC Popup appears. This happens as soon she tries to answer the call. We rebooted it and it worked as it should after a fresh boot, but as soon she uses apps like Whatsapp, Facebook and so on, the problem persists and it's kinda of frustrating. A smartphone should be able to handle those things and she's really disappointed. Thinks I've tried:
-Clear data and cache of Contacts and Phone.
-Hard Reboot
-Recently installed the latest update via OTA (I hoped the problem would get fixed, but unfortunately it's still there)
-Tried using the stock launcher since she uses Nova Launcher
If someone has got an idea of what's going on please reply this post. I don't know if I should root her phone or maybe install a custom ROM. Honestly I wouldn't like to do that since she's a Noob in Android and basically in Technology Stuff. But if that's the solution, I would do that. It's really frustrating.
Thanks! Hope anybody could help
EDIT: SOLVED!
I tried to limit the background processes in developer settings and set the maximum to 4 processes and it magically solved the problem!

[Q] Unfortunately,android.process.acore has stopped

Hi guys,
This is my first post.
I just got a Sony Z2, and yesterday I updated it to latest firmware 17.1.1.A.0.402 using flashtool. After that, everytime when I switch off my phone and turn it on, the message of "...android.process.acore has stopped" appeared.
I tried to flashed the phone again using PC Companion to re-update the same firmware. I though the error message has gone but than it is still there.
I have tried several ways as mentioned in this forum but the problem seem to be there. I don't see any problem/error caused by this error message yet.
Any idea/solution to completely remove the message?
Go into settings > apps > all apps, clear all data for anything relating to contacts then all will be fine, make sure contacts are backed up tho of course

I have tried and have not seen the message. Will keep you updated if it has conpletely gone

Update: It happened again when I reboot my phone today. Is it possible a firmware bug?
I should wait for the next release, hope Sony will fix this issue.
Regards,
I'm on romaur which is 402 and haven't seen this error since I wiped contacts data so not sure, you still on stock or?

I also have the same issue as the OP. It particularly happened after I upgraded to .402 using PC companion. The message will appear always after restarting. My devices has not been rooted. Tried to clear data and cache for contact apps, but after restarting, the message appeared again. I am still lazy to do a re-install because aside from the message appearing only after a restart, there are no other major effect to my Z2's performance. but clearing it will be nice though.
I have the same thing when i touch the phone immediatly when it just restarted, but when i restart and leave it untill screen goes off i don't get the message.

Hi guys,
Thank you for your info.
I tried to disable contact sync of Viber and I think the message has temporarily gone. Sometimes it still pop up but not as often as before I disabled the contact sync of Viber.
Apparently, this problem is caused by contact synchronisation between Viber, Facebook, Messenger, Whatsapp, etc. Other users, such as Samsung phone users, reported that they have the same issue but when they turned off contact sync of the above-mentioned apps, the error message somehow has gone.
To be honest, I have just recently switched to android from iPhone, and I have been usings iOS for years and never seen any kind of issue/error like this on iOS. However, Sony Z2 is one of the greatest phone I ever owned and I am so happy with it, specially its crazy battery life.
Hope you guys will share your solution here if someone can fix it permanently.
Cheers,

possible fix
i had this problem, amongst others stopping my phone. i pulled the sim card out, then rebooted the phone. the phone then showed it was updating all apps i let it boot up and it seemed to work. pulled battery and put sim card back in. and all ok so far. i have sent my phone 3 times away to vodafone for this repair, with android.clock stopping, android.phone stopped working and the phone actually crashing on the samsung screen and not even booting up. each time all they do is a factory reset. like duhhhh, i have never thought of that (sarcasm). i am hoping that doing this, will give my phone some sort of permanency in it's repair. i have not rooted the phone, it is stock.
Vodofone refused to replace the handset even though it had been in so many times for repair. word of advice. steer clear of vodafone. i am cancelling all my contracts with them.
sorry that went off topic, but i want a phone that works and vodafone will not help you in that matter.

Xperia's have unremovable batteries, maybe you should steer clear of Samsungs
Is that a good thing or a bad thing though? Cos sometimes taking a battery out is what could be needed to fix a problem.
But point taken. Perhaps a change of manufacturer would help

I know people who advocated pulling the battery from devices as the only answer but I've yet to come across a situation on any device which couldn't be handled with >adb reboot or a three finger reset.
There's actually a method on Xperia devices, to disconnect the battery and plug it back. It's called "Hard Reset". Yeah you don't take the battery out in reality, but this method does it in Matrix dimension. So, the consequences are the same.
