What is /system/app/Days.apk - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

I was going through the apps installed on my note and came across one called Days.apk. It is 6 megs and according to some of the spreadsheets floating around about bloatware, it says that the Days.apk is a widget. When I look at available widgets to place on my homescreen, I don't see this one! I'm tempted to just remove to reclaim my 6 megs but if it is a Day widget, I'd like to see what it looks like on the homescreen! Does anyone know how to activate or access it?

Be careful with any app that you didn't install. Use Titanium Back Up app and freeze the app and see what is affected first. If nothing is affected maybe delete it.
I remember someone deleted the stock email app and many things went wrong.

It is a widget related to minidiary. I think it only works on stock tw launcher. I do not use the diary or tw so i deleted days.apk with no ill effects.

Go Launcher EX

GO Launcher EX is the extra version of GO Launcher, one of the most popular stock home replacement app in android market, provides beautiful themes, fast flip speed and tons of useful functions. Don't know how many of you use it. Its very fast has an inbuilt task killer also!!
Check out the website!!
http://www.goforandroid.com/
I've been using GO Launcher for a while now, it's by far the best out there. Only strange thing i noticed is that with GO Launcher EX you need to install a separate module in order to have missed call and message notifications down in the dock.

No but u can put them into folders.
Awsme launcher thanx
I've tried other launchers and this is the only one moving smoothly on my Optimus. In addition to that it has icon personalization and you can make those annoying never-used apps disappear in your app menu.
it has enough customization options and the battery use is quite low. A must-have!
very good ...... n.n
Go Launcher EX in my opinion has to be the best one out there.
I am one of the people who actually enjoyed Touchwiz at first....well, until my app drawer reached over 10 pages (That's 160 apps and I even had the bloatware hidden with TiBackup)
Anyways. I have just this completely crazy and awesome thing going with Go Launcher on my phone. The best thing is, I've gone from 10 pages all the way down to 4. This launcher has so much customization and features, and on top of it all, it runs extremely fast.
I have posted several screens of what I have done on my phone using Go Launcher as well as just some screens so people can see it and understand it more.
The 1st is a preview of the ui swiping side to side, the 2nd is all my home screens, the 3rd is what the new app drawer looks like (notice the folders INSIDE the app drawer), the 4th is just all the options I have on my main home screen. The 5th and 6th Images are showing how you can switch the dock back and forth. The 7th is showing the modded facebook app available here on the XDA and my personal mod of the Picture Dial widget. And the last is the Screen Shortcut Screen (when you pinch the screen at home).
I hope you all enjoy.
NOTE: The "theme" I have is purely from the customization features I had available. I did not mod it at all (with the exception of one widget) nor did I actually create a theme for the Launcher like those which are available for ADW.
You can find almost all of what you see via internet. I had to photoshop a few icons (you'll notice them on the screen shots showing my different dockbars as those images are more recent).
gunna have to give this one a try adw launcher just isnt cuttin it for me any more
Using 2.3.2 Mur4ik ROM what I find is that Home Manager shows both Go Launcher EX and stock launcher are running at the same time, stock can take up to 40mb RAM, and second that for Go Launcher EX, so I've changed to stock because I want more mem and when I AutoKill stock then Go launcher Running tab says there's more ram.
How can I customize stock 2.3 launcher?
I need to change number of screens to 3 from 5, I don't need more.
Is there any way to create folders in menu instead in "desktop" only?
Screen transistions are not my priority, but Go Launcher is much user friendly anyway, and allows quick access to most commonly used options by me.
Yeah just hold one app and drag ontop of another to put them both in a folder
Sent from my GT540 using XDA Premium App
How much memory did you say Go Launcher used up? when I'm in it's app drawer tab and kill everything I can only get a max of about 150 out of a possible 303Mb
I will say that you can clear up some memory if you "Freeze" your default launcher using Titanium Backup.
Oh and one of the coolest things about Go Launcher is that since I made a Titanium Backup of it before changing Roms, when I got my phone back up and running again, all I had to do was go into Go Launcher's Preferences, scroll down and hit restore configuration (I had made a back up, can't forget that) and all my custom icons were restored. I had to add my widgets back manually, but that wasnt too big of a deal (I didn't make a titanium backup of that, but I think you can).
...hold on, actually Titanium Backup just restored all my apps, the Go Launcher's configuration is completely separate from titanium backup. GO Launcher creates it's own folder on your SD card for it's backups. It's pretty cool.
Soooo..... has anyone happened to have talked to the developer or anything to find out about making custom themes? I haven't had any experience making themes for other launchers, but I'd like to give a shot at making one for Go Launcher and I haven't seen anything on how to make one unfortunately.
nice but crashes too frequently
for my it is the best launcher for now, and in the oficial page says that it going to have customs themes
Is there any way to decrease the number of screens? I find it incredibly irritating to see have 5 screens, I only need and use 2.
I found GO Launcher to work best with stock 2.1. There are buch of themes for it, but only several of them are good for me.

I love this launcher as you can resize widgets and mess around with almost anything in it.

[Q] How to remove a widget from the widget list?

Hi there
i'd like to know how to remove a single widget from the widget list
the fact is that i need its app, but it has soooo many widgets and i only need one of them
how can i remove the only ones that i don't need?
ps i know that many apps allow to disable the widgets that you don't want, but unfortunately this isn't the case
I don't know of a way to remove a widget, without removing the associated app. There may be an app to do it somewhere, but it's certainly not a standard thing.
Here's an alternative though...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=780828
It groups widgets together, making the widget list a lot tidier.
well at least that's something
thank you!
edit
from that thread:
"* Doesn't work with HTC-Sense but should work with all "Stock-Based" Launchers like Launcher PRO, ADW, Zeam etc. pp."
i can sense incompatibility with the touchwiz XD
i will prolly try it later anyway and see what happens

Very good point - I use Go Launcher and it works fine with that. I just tried it with TouchWiz and it doesn't work.
aww such a shame
thanks so much for testing it!!
i'll keep that in mind in case i change the launcher someday
You don't mention what the name of the apk is ?
autostarts can remove widgets from list (Widget Updating)
Another thing you could always do (if it's not a system app) would be to move the app to the SD card. (I never tried that yet with my SGS2 since I'm still very far from filling the internal app spare, but I'm sure it will work.)
It's easy, quick and doesn't requires any additional software on the phone.

[Q] Folders and Widgets

Ok, so I am not exactly a noob with android. But ICS, yes. I just upgraded last week. I flashed Siyah kernel and Omega rom as that was close to what I used to have with GB and UnNamed rom. I then moved Omega to 2nd rom and flashed Task's AOKP rom as primary making it duel boot. I ABSOLUTELY love AOKP!! However, I miss two things that I enjoyed having in Omega and UnNamed and that is the ability to put applications into folders and the Active Applications monitor widget.
Using folders to organize my apps just makes sense to me and it made it easier to put the lesser used apps away. I know that I can organize apps on the homescreens, but that area is reserved for widgets and apps that are used most of the time. My question for this is: why are developers NOT including this feature? Is there something I am missing? Is there an easier way to organize apps that I am not seeing?
As far as the Active Applications widget, I used that widget to tell me what I have left open when navigating away from a program or hitting the home button to go to another app temporally. I would also use it to go back to said apps that I left open. I also used it to kill those apps. The widget would tell me, at a glance, how many programs I left open. This seems like a feature that would be important, yet I cannot find it anywhere!
I did google searches and forum searches to no avail. This worries me as since I am the only person asking, there must be something better or I am missing something. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I would ask Task directly, but I cannot post to his thread.

Tbh you don't need an active application widget. Also, you can put folders on your home screen so I don't know why you think you can't.

For ICS ROMs, I haven't tried many different yet, but at least on the Horny Porny Unicorn, with Apex launcher, free version, you definitely can make folder(s) on the Home screen(s), only on the home screens, not in the App Drawer.
Your other question seems to be called "Program Manager" where it lists how many apps and which app currently opened. In ICS, honestly I couldn't find anything similar to that (note: that Program Manager will only work on Samsung framework). I currently just use Task Manager to deal with it.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I do believe holding down the home button shows you recent apps and is also a built in task killer. Also with folders as previous posts have said to add folders to the home screen just drag one icon on another and ur good to go.

Your right! I can put folders on my home screen, but like I originality said, you cant put folders in the apps screen where they are needed. The home screen is reserved for things like often used apps and widgets.
As far as holding down the home button to kill programs... seems to work on my Omega but not on the AOKP. I turned it on under rom control to Pre-ICS recent when holding down the Home button (after playing will ALL the settings) and all it allows for is showing you the recent apps... not active ones. Anyone know of a task manager widget or something like what I am talking about???

You meant the app drawer, okay yeah that only works with touchwiz. As for the task manager setting it to pre ics removes a lot of functionality. You can set the back button to kill apps but you can have the task manager that is in samsung roms.

That works... I played around with that, but I thought it was just a way to kill the app you currently were using and had open. If you open a app and navagate away from it or press the home button, holding down the back button will show those apps and then kill them. Works like a charm! I love this mod...
I guess all I need now is touchwiz or something better that will probably never happen and life will be grand! Thank you so much!!!
If you have Nova Launcher Prime you can have folders in the app drawer. I believe is $4.00 in he play store

Where did my people widget go?

I use 2 side by side people widgets on one page. I made some updates on gmail contacts and when one of the people widgets refreshed it had the name under the wrong picture, so I removed that one widget. I go to add it back in and I no longer have the people widget available to add. My second widget is still on the screen but my phone says there is no people widget. I reloaded the app from titanium backup (it showed 3?) but no change. I do a long press, go to widgets, and it's simply not in the list. Where did it go? Is there an apk or something I can use to load it back on?

Your preferred launcher, widgets, apps, etc?

I'm curious what you guys would recommend for launchers, lockscreens, widgets, apps and such for the GN3. Paid or free, I'm open to all suggestions.
I like a simple, clean and intuitive setup.
My current stock setup is one home screen with apps categorized in 6 folders below the Pandora and weather widget.
Wallpaper is a static gallery image.
I would like more customization over the home screen/lock screen. Widgets on the lock screen would be nice as well.
Are any of the stock Samsung/Sprint apps more useful than 3rd party alternatives?
It would also be good to know which bloatware/stock apps are safe to remove from freeza's deodexed ROM and whether or not it is a good idea to install TWRP and start flashing away or wait for more testing. I almost jumped into it last night but decided stock and rooted is safest for now.
I just want to optimize battery life, productivity and customization options.

I prefer NOVA launcher, highly customizable and very smooth. As for widgets the main ones I use as of now are Power Amp, TuneIn Radio, Pandora, APW Calendar, One-Weather.
I removed all Sprint apps including connection optimizer, and most Samsung apps except for the ones I may get some use from.
Some of my removed apps/APK:
ALL Knox related apk's
ALL Scloud APK's
ALL Sprint apps
Yahoo APK
Sfinder APK
STranslate [replaced with google translate]
Accuweather APK
Dual Clock APK
Samsung HUB
Samsung books
Samsung Apps
TW Launcher
Travel Service
Magazines
There's more I took off but I cannot remember, there's more I want to remove but not sure if they will affect other things. [For example: Bestface.apk]
I recommend Greenify, it is a great app that helps with apps running on their own.

Thank you! Excellent suggestions, will definitely give them a try!
I'm a bit apprehensive about installing TWRP and flashing freeza's deodexed ROM but I might ask well take a chance, would be great to have all that bloat removed.
Might I suggest you start a community thread regarding APKs that are safe to remove. Perhaps it'll speed up the process towards the perfect ROM.

I am running TWRP and Freeza's De-Odezed ROM, all is good! So feel free to go ahead and flash, just make sure to always follow thread instructions.
I rather not make a thread myself about what apps to remove in case someones phone gets messed up lol.
Here is a link to a thread [Galaxy S4 though] of what apps are "safe" to remove. Keep in mind some of those apps may be needed for certain features within other apps, and some of those apps may be useful to YOU but not others.

Always have a backup [although right now I don't think you can restore nandroids] and have the rom in the sd card to replace removed apk's if removing them caused problems. If you run into trouble and are not sure what apk started giving you problems just boot to recovery, wipe cache/dalvik, and "dirty flash" the rom again [it will keep your data but replace all the missing apk's and so on]:good:

Wonderful, should I use TWRP to create a nandroid backup and just wait till we have a restore solution, or is there another backup method? I always did a nandroid backup in the past whenever modifying, better safe than sorry.

That sounds like a good idea, setup your rom to your liking, backup [even if not possible to restore for now -- but when fixed you have a backup of your rom running great]. As far as I have read there is no way to restore backups [I have not looked into it since Sunday when I first rooted] but feel free to look in CWM and TWRP threads for up to date information.

I have three launchers - ADW, Nova, Apex - and each one seems to work best with specific devices. I have Nova on my GN 10.1 and didn't like ADW or Apex on it. On my Evo I preferred ADW, and on my GN3 I prefer Apex. Look, settings and their results, and so forth, always seem to vary just a bit different with each device. Maybe it's just me. :silly:
i prefer Nova .. since i have mines set to 320dpi (240dpi on Note 2). I like the extra space and smaller icons.
