Change the .apk to .zip and extract the aplication to find your image change it to transparent and compress files again to zip and normal comperession method with win zip or win rar then change the .zip to .apk and replace the new aplication with root explorer and restart .....enjoy

Easy solution
you can just try this mod in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1797064
you will be able to remove the bottom line completely but not the upper line
and it's more customizable than stock

If u just wanna change the icon of the apl, then open ur apk in 7zip or winzip. And find the png file which contains the icon. It is either present in res/drawable-mdpi/
Or in res/midmap-mdpi/

Only do it if its ur own apk. Otherwise its illegal....I think
And even if its not, I, as a developer strongly discourage it. I would certainly not like my app being decompiled

Use X-Plore file manager
(Root access is required)
First backup your original apk file.
Work:
1- Open an app as zip file
2- go to res\drawable-hdpi\ folder
3- find icon.png in this folder
4- then Go to the second section in the browser (on the screenshot)
5- find the png file which is your new icon.
6- Rename it "icon.png" and mark.
7- Then copy it and write over old one.
8- End
Note:The new apk file is not signed so you can't install it like a normal installation.
So you can push it to the system\app folder (Root access is required)

It's not a full apk . I don't know how to call it because I haven't used it before . I think it's called zipthemer or something like that. It looks like an apk but it's just a folder which only contains the files which has to be replaced inside an existing framework-res.apk in your device. So it would probably work with any framework-res.apk.

Okay, but you better remove the attachment for the time being.
And why is the data partition mounted and unmounted unnecessarily? And you cannot unmount the sdcard because the flashable zip itself is present in the sd card during execution and you can't instruct it to unmount itself .

Mr S_sway , why do u post something when u you really dont have the knowledge ? the systemui.apk first needs to be decompiled and then the xml file needs to be edited to support the background image in the notification background
.. the method u have posted is of no use , unless the person is using the modded systemui.apk
the stock systemui.apk is not modded and OMEGA Roms also have the SystemUI.apk which is not modded to support background images
so guys dont waste your time downloading the zip file and trying to get the background image , unless u have the rom with modded systemui.apk that supports notification background , this will not work .
