Search didn't bring anything up, and I'm probably not looking thoroughly, but I can't find an answer
I want to use the TTS feature on my SXS to read text messages aloud when I'm driving, but can't seem to find an option to enable this. I downloaded IVONA and the voice package but I still do not find an option to get this to work. I recently updated to ICS through PCC.
I've seen other devices have the "Driving Mode" option under the input and output settings, but I don't see it.
Any ideas/help?

If ur phone is rooted go to /system/app in file explorer and delete talkback.apk (or move it out to sdcard directory if u plan for using it in future to be able to remove it in)

I also had this bug. The only thing that fixed it was updating the ROM version (.452 to 1.58)

Are you using the stock messaging app? What rom and phone are you using?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Yes, stock messaging app on SGS2 (as the forum states). I'm on stock KE2 and rooted via chainfire's rooting method then reflashed stock kernel.
Have you turned on always vibrate from within the messaging app? Go to all threads in the app, press menu, then settings, scroll down to notification settings, then press the option that says "Vibration" and make sure the option for always vibrate is selected.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
I would but the setting isn't even there which is what surprised me most!
EDIT: I found an app to let me enable that vibration and it works now but it should be there as an option by default!!! WTF SAMSUNG!

Swype is what you know
and voice input for texting email and whatsapp and all..cant seem able to find it
ANd im not talking about google voice...or siri for android...
When i long press on the box in messages..>> Input method..i only have keyboard..cnt we change that??
Samsung and SE Xperia phones are different, these have different keyboards.
Xperia phones do not have voice input by default, but swiping from letter to letter does exist.
Ok by default we dont get..but cant we get a mod for it on se ???

you dont need a mod. there are other keyboards that have both voice input and swype input. such as, default gingerbead keyboard

your arguement is invalid
edit: my mistake, i do not meant se gb keyboard, but samsung default gb keyboard
I had a problem with pre-loaded Swype with voice input as well. Was using version 2.70.75.22679.22684.471.I9000M which came pre-installed, the voice input button on the Swype keyboard didn't work at, but did work on the Samsung keypad (other default keyboard).
perhaps this is what OP is referring to.
I have recently un-installed the pre-loaded version and installed the latest beta, which is 3.26 right now. The voice input mic button is now the 'Dragon' logo. Seems to work well most times, but does NOT work with search fields. (such as in most browsers)
The google search bar widget with google voice input does work though, but I hate having to go find that if i want to search in a browser via voice input
Hi all.
Have rooted my s3 with the omega rom and using go launcher. Wanted to know, after having searched xda as well as Google, how to either - disable the deliver report sound OR disable the deliver report screen wake up. Its annoying when constantly texting a conversation to have to discard the notification of every sms received.
I like the implementation of the stock ics delivery report (just adds a tick mark to the sms) but the stock ics messaging app doesn't search threads by person. Only searches the messages. (So if there's a mod for that to enable search threads by person name as well then perfect, will ditch Samsung mms/sms app in a heartbeat).
Thanks
Kunal.

Try other sms apps in play store.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
True but other apps don't replace the Samsung stock app. They just overlay it thus wasting precious resources. (As I understand it, please correct me if I'm wrong.)
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Give it a try. Android quite good in handling resources. If it really cripple your phone, then just uninstalled it and find other solutions.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Have already tried Go sms or whatever the name is. Best sms I've found is the stock ics app but as stated in my 1st post, it for some reason doesn't search by threads only by messages. so if I have a thread with you, a search by your name won't yeild the thread as a result. only such messages where your name is mentioned will be shown. If there's a mod for that then that's perfect. Much better, lighter and faster app than the stock Samsung app.

Any senior member knows a hack for this? Come on I'm surprised the delivery report tone and wake screen hasn't irritated anyone else?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
It has iiritated me too
I, on the other hand, prefer to use any other SMS than the stock one, but any other program will not disable the Delivery Reports.
It is very annoying that everytime you send out a message you get a "message delivered" reply, that I have to keep erasing every once in a while.
I have posted several times, in several forums, looking for an answer to this but apparently everybody enjoys knowing their messages reached their destination, as nobody seems to care.

To disable Delivery Notifications open Messages app --> Settings --> SMS Settings ---> Uncheck delivery notifications...
That disables delivery notifications. I like to know that the message is delivered. I just don't like that it sounds out like a normal sms and wakes up my screen. Just a tick on the sent message or a silent delivery report without the screen wake up is perfect. (Like in the stock ics mms app. However in the stock ics mms app one can't search for threads only for messages, while in the Samsung mms app thats possible).

This post is very old but if anyone had the same problem, just use the app "Messaging Notification". It solves the problem.
Thanks! This app is great! To recive proper funcionality I set "Silent" a ringtone in SMS app (to keep showing the SMS in notification bar) and everything else (the ringtones) I set in this app.
Hello there, I'm currently using [ROM][UNOFFICIAL BETA][CM10] Avatar ROM for Motorola Atrix MB860[Updated 17th Feb 13]
HTML:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2140902
and have been enjoying it. I installed GO contacts EX and Go Dialer EX but for the life of me I can't seem to figure out how to stop the Avatar Rom for using the default dialer when it sends or receives a call. I've gone through and looked at every option I can search through and there is nothing that allows me to uncheck / remove / ignore the default phone app.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks for the reply. That was the first place I looked. Unfortunately I think the default dialer is hijacking Go Contacts/dialer EX. Go Contacts is set for the default already but the moment I dial out from it, the default dialer takes over on both outgoing and incoming calls. It's kind of annoying but I can simply get rid of Go Contacts and just live with the default. It will be a love/hate relationship It beats having the two programs competing all the time.

I've never tried it before, but root your device (if you haven't already), then go into system apps and delete the default dialer. this might work, but make sure you have your preferred dialer installed ahead of time. this is just an idea, idk if it works

It was a good idea but after I deleted dialer.apk (backed it up just in case), the system pasted a new dialer.apk in it's place (the original default one) once I launched exdialer lol. I have to admit, it is kind of comical how persistent that dialer.apk is Thanks again for the help. I think I'm stuck with it
Anyone know how to get rid of this and just pick the first one always
??
