Like to check with all here, are S3 headset audio output volume consider to be on the low side?
The reason I ask this was, 2 days ago just got my car AUX line in cable replaced the L/R RCA adapter casing cracking and hollow sound immediately or after sometime of playback. The AUX cable are plugged into headset output of a Sony MW600 stereo bluetooth that connected to my S3, iPad2/new iPad.
During the diagnost by the car mechanic, he uses AUX cable directly plugged to an iPhone4, the volume come from it was much higher compare to plugged with S3 headset jack. Both iPhone4 & S3 was at max volume but can say it's around 6~10dB different or 250% volume gain with iPhone4. Never did I reliaze this different as most of the time I was using my stereo bluetooth to feed my car stereo AUX line.
Next thing I'd tried, out of convenience for MP3 playback through my car stereo I've decided to purchase a cheap China made Nano5 MP3/4 player (with camera), the one look like the long & slim old iPod Nano with small screen. Playing it through my TDK BA200 iem the SQ was mediocre and with much lesser bass than S3 or iPad3. But to my suprise, when connecting it to my car stereo, the max sound volume was even higher than eiher S3 and iPad3., not to mentioned the bass are also more punchy than the other 2.
With 2 different results,
1. S3 audio playback through TDK BA200 iem, SQ and bass are super, loud and fuller, but through my car AUX line are otherwisely low bass & volume.
2. MIC MP3 playbakc through TDK BA iem, SQ are mediocre, lower bass & volume, but through my car AUX line SQ are good, loud and good bass.
So now I am confused. Should I considered S3 headset output consider low volume? Or it was because of compatibility or impedance issues? Hope anyone good in audio experiences can explain/advice me on the S3 different audio output behaviour. Many thanks!
Btw, my car was Renault Laguna III 2.0A Turbo with original head unit and 8 Pioneer components speakers.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, with normal iem Galaxy S3 headset output considered loud.
My problem was when S3 plugged into my car stereo AUX line in it was otherwisely low volume and light bass.
This is comparing S3 with made in China MP3 player, iPhone4 and the built in CD Player.
I'm still puzzling why was S3 behaved that way.

its already loud enough, but there are ways to boost it further. either use siyah kernel (has loads of option for sound) or franco kernel and feel the difference.

Sorry to bump old thread but ive just got a s3 and the level 15 volume through headphones is low volume actually compared to my htc desire hd it sounds like its on level 3. Any ideas on why this is happening?

its because there is a config issue on the phone. there are ways to fix it but i wouldnt use Volume+ i tried to contract the owner many times and have never had a response. its a waste of money and not fit for the job as it crashes other apps on the device.

Default.conf file can be altered a number of sound output threads on XDA can be read .
Siyah kernel has built in louder vol .

Hi, there's a program on play called 'mixget' which can increased the headphone out gain it doesn't need a rooted phone I used it on the s1 and it seems to work on the s3 under the current jellybean. I love headphones.

i found, without changing kernel or flashing a mod, yu can install AC!D Audio Engine from its official site, it has many audio pluging and conf like Dr.Dre Beats and it should power up/clear/bass boost your audio.
Problem
Now, I've got this very weird problem. When I plug the headphones and play a Midi using the default player (only when using the default player), the volume is low even on 15. BUT this doesn't happen when it plays any other filetype (mp3, etc...) . Also, Midis play louder (as they should) when I open them using another file explorer (ex. Es file explorer) with the default player. Does anybody know how to solve that issue? I can't find anything that can help on the net.

I've stopped using gs2 to listen to music long time as the volume is too low and also finding harder to drive my headphones to full. Just only yesterday, my iriver broke and in the market for new player. Thinking whether should be better off with just getting Fiio E6.
yes, we do lack line out through usb (very hopeful that it'll be put on ICS) and the only way to connect is through headphone out which is already amplified.

think it's both. But yes normally I listen to a high level of volume and gs2 is the one of the lowest sounding device (ie through headphone out) i've ever owned. Not made for each other and made worst by owning couple of higher impedance headphones.
i have been using a FiiO E5 from when i had a n900, i think the volume is too low on the s2 aswell, i think you can get them for less than 20quid now, deffo worth it imo
thanks for that. I'm almost set my heart to buy one of these for later to be paired with sansa clip+ or similar. Probably will be cheaper and better than cowon's or sony x's. It's just curious what will be the effect on sound which is already amplified as HO in gs2.
Try Voodoo Louder from the Market for a 6dB increase, or the app in my sig for more than that. I use Brainwavz M3's with this app & find I only need to have volume at around 30% even in noisy environments (public transport, walking around town).
I've not found the S2 volume to be too bad, but I've used both one of the small "pop up" speakers, as well as a full blown amp, and a car headphone in socket - all absolutely fine.
you've tried Equalizer?, is in the market, is very good. regarding your original question, i use mine with logitech LB21, and it's sounds amazing.

with Poweramp I think the sound is louder than the music original application, you can find it on the market
yes i use the E6 - it works fine and the quality is good.
Do not use any of the EQ's etc as suggested here to get it louder. The samsung internal amp can only go so loud without distorting - all u are doing with software boosts is dynamically effecting the music you are listening to. Somewhat like the radio does. It makes all of the instruments in the track as loud as each other by compressing the loudest sounds and lifting the volume of the lower ones. If you really want to get a louder performance from your phone use different headphones - that run on less ohms or use an external portable amp like any of Eii's series.
that's a very good explanation. I've also tried with low impedance headphones but still lacks the "punch". My bad as in OP I used the wrong word "loud" instead of "punch".

I think it's absolutely fine. I'm not a music snob either. I haven't tried Voodoo Louder so I can't comment, but I can say that I've noticed a HUGE volume boost since I've moved over to MIUI. But yeah, the sound is fine, bare in mind that I've never used a SGS though.

I tested on first purchase with both phones .
No difference .

My S2 is loud at 30% volume 50% is to loud .
The defining point for many is relatively simple SGS2 not so good at the low end .
So if you listen to boom boom bang bang extra bass stuff its not that good .

I used the stock rom for like 20 minutes before rooting. since the I used miui & omega and never had a problem with the loudness and/or sound quality.

Hi. I got an SGSII and i also have Beats By Dre Headphones. The sound quality is amazing with PowerAMP, some EQ tweaks. I installed Beats audio but that was bad. It sounded cheap. Lower bass and the Mids & Highs were bad as well. I restored the stock Audio which is amazing for me.

Grrr. Beats only "makes a difference" if you don't know how music is suppose to sound and enjoy over-mastered music normalised to 99% so "it sounds good" to the masses. Or you're one of the annoying ones which put 2 x 500W subwoofers in their car (but they'll go deaf by 25, so that's ok, just cleaning the gene pool).

On topic: the sound quality of the SGS 2 isn't bad, but not spectacular either. It really depends on your expectations; if you expect it to sound as a 1000$ hi-fi device, then search somewhere else. As you're listening to music on a *portable* device, you'll have external noise anyway; better get a pair of quality in-ear headphones (with good insulation); this will allow you to reduce outside noise and keep the volume down (so you'll still have hearing when you get old).

The SQ is worse than my £30 Sansa Clip... It's acceptable, but no more IMHO. For "serious portable music", I stick with my S9 and Senny IE8s. Just use the phone for music for trips to work. YMMV.

How its coded and what format .
SGS2 is not very good with boom boom stuff as its weak at the low end .
Sound level does vary on phones ( or we have a load of deaf users ) their are a number of apps that may help .
Stock phones or Cheapish Sure or Sennheiser sound level at 30% and no problems on my phone .
Tweaked very slightly with Volume + free app and Visang RO2 IEM for slightly better overall natural timbre .

Beats audio makes a difference with high end headphones like the beats ones.........AS THEY ALREADY HAVE IT....BEATS AUDIO IS THE ONLY OPTION FOR THEM TO MAKE MUSIC BETTER....nobody is saying that you hook up your phone to a sub woofer.........

I haven't seen this posted about the Note. Does anyone else have a bad hiss when listening to music? Using Google Music and spotify, there is a definite hiss in the background.
I realize the Note's audio chip isn't great but I wasn't expecting this. Coming from the Captivate, this is really annoying me at the moment.

Right, only on headphones. Quite loud and intrusive. I listen to my good quality in-ears at work for hours every day. I can't believe just how crappy the sound is on this otherwise fantastic device.
Ok, you got me wondering so I put on a decent pair of over-the-ear cans and spent 10 minutes flipping through a half-dozen channels of XM (128 kbps streaming). Then 5 more minutes going through several high-quality MP3s (variable bitrate with a max of 224 kbps).
No hiss, no background noise at all during the soft parts. Cranked the volume up to max, no distortion. Very happy with the results - much better than my last phone, the onboard sound on that sucked.
I'm on the stock rom, are you using something else?
For mere there's some noise when I'm not listening to anything, but I only hear it on my headphones.

have not noticed it with headphones...but.....While using the car dock, any pause in the music whether it be on Pandora, Google Music, or just no app selected, There is a really annoying hiss/feedback through the speakers in the car. This is using the audio output connected to my stereo's AUX input.
It's just like a bad ground "whine" on a stereo...speeds up and down with the car. Never did this before with any other phone/device, so I know it's the note or the dock. I have not tried connected directly to the headphone jack on the note, I'll have to try that out.
Yeah the skyrocket did that too. I have a video up on you tube of it.

As stock as can be here. The hiss is most apparent at the beginning of the track when it starts playing but no music yet. As soon as the track starts playing, you can here it click on with the hiss.
Did I get a defective one?
I'm using a very good pair of in-ears (UE700s). I'll try to dig up some cans later to try it. Maybe directing sound directly onto the ear drums via in-ears picks up the hiss better (less natural filtering?).
Another thought: is there an internal amp volume/gain? Listening to the in-ears, it seems the media volume is very loud even at low settings and amps up quickly with each keypress. Maybe there is another sound tweak I can make somewhere.

A common problem if you are also charging - you are setting up a ground loop. You can add a ground loop isolator on the audio cable (big and clunky), unplug the power, or unplug the audio (and use BT in its place).

While I'm not a die-hard audiophile (I won't spend 10K on a sound system) I do consider myself to be pretty selective. Partly why I ripped my CD collection @ 224 and not something lower - I did lots of tests beforehand and still could hear subtle differences @ 192. Also why I rarely buy 128 kbps mp3s. Anyway, for better or for worse I just don't hear anything negative so maybe yours is defective. I will bust out some in-ear buds tonight and take another listen.

Often media players will have a separate volume from the phone's "media volume". Then there are separate "media volume" settings for BT and the jack. Then don't forget internal volume on BT headphones. It can take some fiddling to find the best combination.

I had the same thing with all my devices. Its just bad ground. That cable will get you set straight.
I never listened to my note with headphones, just with my car stereo with that cable. I hear absolutely no hissing or whining noise, just absolute beautiful sound and bass. This phone is mounds better than the Captivate.
Well, I retried some EQ/volume apps that I might has used recently to make sure there isn't any overboost feature enabled but nothing I can do to solve my problem. argh...
I never tried headphones in my Note with the stock sound equalizer. I had already installed the Beats by Dre mod in the developer's forum.
Zero hum whatsoever, and my happy hardcore sounds amazing.
I too have hiss from the headphone jack. I just returned my first Note yesterday hoping that the hiss would go away. It did not. I use mine in the car with an adapter that hooks directly to the back of my radio (JVC proprietary style).

Huh... I was about to return mine today but maybe it might be fruitless? Or maybe there is a large quantity with hiss and others without?
For those with no hiss, do you find the volume to be very loud? What I'm talking about is even at low settings, just 2-3 notches above silent, the volume is already pretty loud. My phone feels like the internal "gain" was set too high.
I know on my captivate, I could set the media volume to about 40% and still be comfortable. On my Note, it's about 20-30% if that.
Does volume of the note sounds real low to you compared to smaller phones???

No, it is TOO LOUD. just a couple notches above zero and some music is already getting too loud. This is with headphones not internal speaker.
I just got back from swapping my phone from the AT&T store. Both models (black/white) on display had the hiss. I decided to go ahead and swap and maybe a new shipment had an updated phone. NOPE, the hiss is still there.
I've used 3 different in-ears (couldn't find any over the ear cans) and also tested on a captivate and galaxy tab 10.1. It's the Note that is doing the hissing and very noticeable even at low volumes. Easiest to hear is right when you track begins but before the music starts.
I think this might be a deal breaker for me. I love this thing though. Especially irritating with spotify between tracks.

In order to quantify if this is hardware or not, try doing a factory reset (since you've returned your phone it shouldnt be that big of a deal).
Then, using the stock player on the phone (feel free to update Google Music or any other apps that came with the phone) see if you have the same hiss.
The factory reset is to determine if its possibly an app you installed at some point that is 'boosting' the sound internally without your knowledge. Sound boosting can create signal to noise problems.
Make sure your phone isnt plugged in / charging to anything (not plugged into a PC for example).
And try moving around to different locations, for example, in your house, try going into your front / back yard and see if the problem persists.
You also might try a different set of headphones and see if you have the same issue.
And lastly, if you plug in the headphones and reboot the phone, once the phone is fully booted, check to see if you hear any hiss WITHOUT any apps open?

Thanks for your helpful tips. Unfortunately, I've tried all that. Factory reset and all. As soon as the phone is ready to go, I listen to some music and hear the hiss immediately. Home or office, no difference. Not plugged in. Different in-ears. 4 different Notes.
I'm using very good in-ears (UE 700s, dual armature) and also decent SuperFi.3s.
Something interesting. Took a listen to a friend's good headphones just now and do not hear any hiss. Even if the media volume cranked up close the max, sounded fine, no hiss and listenably loud. With the in-ears, I can barely get half way up in volume because it becomes too loud.
Anyone here use in-ears? I know most prefer headphones or earbuds.
I'm going to try an inline attenuator tonight to see if that helps (if I can find it!).
What do you mean 'as soon as the phone is ready to go'?
As in, the instant you plug in headphones the hiss is there?
My guess is likely that the in-ear headphones are putting the sound right up to your ear drum and they likely are super sensitive.
The sound chip in the Note is not near to as good as the sound chip in the Captivate.
Im going to do a bit more experimenting with this as the only headphone I have are the seinnheisers and they arent exactly great for portable listening. I have a friend coming over tonight who has some very high quality in-ear headphones and Ill see if I hear anything with those.
Has anyone use the TF201 on an airplane with closed, but not noise-cancelling headphones?
I've found that it's not possible to get the volume up loud enough on my Audio Technica ATH-M50 headphones to be able to hear dialog in movies. The headphones are great, but even with a closed design they are just too quiet at the loudest volume to really hear well on an airplane.
Has anyone used a portable amp with the prime that you would recommend? I've done a quick search and it seems like a lot of amps need a digital input. I'd imagine that I'd just need a simpler analog amp that takes a 3.5mm input. I'm looking for something cheap to just help on an airplane. Any recommendations? The cheaper the better.
Check out of the fiio e line. They have some portable amps that use the 3.5mm connection. I have a fiio e6 and i like it

Have you used it on an airplane and does it seem to give you enough of a boost to overcome the background noise? I think I got confused when I saw the fiio amps because they photos show them hooked up with a custom connection to an iPhone for example, but now I see they just take a 3.5mm input.
And they aren't too expensive so I might just try it out.
I have the same model headphones.. a Prime.. a Fiio amp. The cheapest one... And they work great! Makes them much louder

using windows phone 7 on my hd2 you could increase these volumes from the rom. Is there nothing like this in android?
Don't know if you tried any of the apps on the play store. I use volume + app. Works great. Lets you go above the stock volume levels for both the internal speakers and headphones. There are other apps out there to boost volume as well.

Of course.. but you need to be running a rooted/custom ROM. You can usually mess with the audio configuration files in the /etc folder for whatever audio amplifier chip is in the device.
I use an app from the play store called "equalizer" to accomplish what you're looking to do, works perfect:

Just do a custom setting, and instead of doing a typical EQ curve, just boost every slider by the same amount and this will give you a volume boost.

Hey Guys.
I'm creating this thread since I did not find any other old thread about this issue.
When a song or any audio output is done through the Redmi Note 3's Speaker or when it is connected to a Amplifier like a car stereo then there's an Awkward ssssss or Hissing sound.
I've used Two Different models of the Redmi Note 3 thanks to Amazon and both of them have this.
It has a very very low possibility of hardware error.
When a song is played at 1/7 of the total volume, put your ear near the device speaker and listen carefully. You might notice a weird hissing sound. It goes away when there is deep and strong bass but is there lots of times.
Using an amplifier it is most noticeable at lower volumes.
I hope you people understand.

I too faced that situation... But in my case..
The 3.5 mm jack is broken..
I mean.. There's no problem with the phone.. But in sound system I use...
Have you checked this problem with other speakers ...??

Hey,
I actually have noticed this when I played music in my Car and also from the phone's Speaker itself!
Both when the volume is Very Low....
I know it's not a problem with my piece because I've checked with many RN3 Users and same issue is being detected there too.
My RN3 is new and in superb Condition and so are the other Appliances like the Car Stereo I used.
Even then this Hiss sound is there.
I wonder of its a problem with the Chipset altogether since there isn't a sound/music chip in it...
I hope it's a software issue and gets resolved fast...
When recording sound from the speaker output yes the sound is levied towards the high end, this is probably what causes the hissing sound in your amplifier since it can't properly amplify that freq or something along those lines, I'm not too sure since I'm no sound engineer but that's just my 50 cent.

Dumb me, your amplifier is probably a 3.5mm headphone Jack right? If so then there shouldn't be this issue and my above statement wouldn't apply ;-;
I noticed this when using Viper Audio. There was a small but noticeable hissing in the left earphone. It went away when I turned off playback gain control.
Maybe check if any equalisers or headphone effects are on and turn them off?

I had checked everything possible. I even did now.
No part of the settings, equalizer, audio effects could fix it....
And where's the option you're talking about for playback gain control? I'm still unrooted with a locked bootloader on MIUI V7.2.3.0LHOMIDA
The sound is there in both speakers in my case. I'm not using anything other than the stock music application and some great songs on an amplifier I.e. Cars stereo
Anybody has got the solution? I am also facing same issue ??

I've bought this Bluetooth audio adaptor that serves my purpose in the car.
Funnily nobody at Mi noticed this.
I'll do a bug report highlighting this issue.
Everyone else plase do too!

I have also dropped them a mail. Will also report bug. Thank you for your solution but I'll probably have to wait as my car system does not support Bluetooth.

Even mine didn't support Bluetooth.
If your Stereo supports USB and Aux in, you can also go for the adapter since it only needs those two.
USB for Power and Aux In for the Music.

I had a similar problem. Whenever I connected my headphones to my Redmi Note 3, there would be a weird hissing noise at low volumes especially. At higher volumes, it would reduce. I found a fix to this on Reddit, but you need to be rooted.

Looks like a legacy. We are well into 2017 and the issue still exists. I bought my RN3 a couple of weeks ago and noticed the hissing on the third day of use. I just have been ignoring it. After all, it's a Chinese phone. I bought it and I have to live with it.

The solution for problems with Redmi Note 3 and AUX is the following (solves the problem of correct detection and noise during playback): it is necessary to solder or otherwise connect resistors with a rating of 10 ohms between the common "0" wire and the left and right channel wires (I did 17 Ohm , did 10 ohms - both options work).
After you make this cable, the sequence of actions is as follows: the cable is first inserted into the smartphone, wait for the icon to appear with the headphones, and then insert into the AUX-input of the radio or audio system.
