Phone won't see MicroSD - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all,
Last friday i wanted to place some MP3's on the MicroSD-card in the phone, 16GB. Something went wrong (Phone shutted down) and since then the MicroSD-card isn't recognized by the phone.
If i place another MicroSD-card in the phone it works with no problems.
The MicroSD that doesn't work in the phone, does work in windows with an SD Adaptar... I formatted the card (FAT 32), won't work... Resetted my phone... won't work... I can use the card in windows normally, it writes and reads data like any other card... but my phone just won't recognize it...
Anyone has some idea?

Can you format card by insterting it into phone and then format in Storage settings?

I formatted the bad MicroSD multiple times in Windows using Minitool Partition... It says its fat32, cmd chkdsk says its fat32... I can put content on the microsd and use the content.
But the phone won't recognize it.. It's a 16gb card and if the phone does not recognize it, i can't format it... It's like he phone doesnt even know there is an microsd inserted...
A 4gb MicroSD doea work on the phone...

mayb u can try it from a friend of urs in case they have 1

I will try if i have someone with such a card... In the mean time wouldnt it be possible to make two 8GB partitions? Or 4 GBs?
If i make it an NTFS-card? Will it ask to reformat? If the phone can actually see the card... Sigh..

Try to make a ext4 partition and see if it works

Didn't work... it's like the phone has turned off the SD-Card reader when inserted with that card
It's being checked on reading errors in windows..... but so far 0..

Well... no problems found..
I checked the info of the SD-cards.. changed the serialnumber of the one not working to the one working.. i also tried to change it to change the partition ID but that does not work.. it doesnt get changed..

Try this : insert SD card, go to settings, storage, and mount SD card.

I was just gonna say, if you have cwm you can format it from there. That's actually how I fixed one of my bricked SD cards. Only cwm could format it. Partition mini tool said bad disk.
Also try this from terminal or adb:
fdisk -l /dev/block/mmcblk1 and see what it says.

Microsd not recognized?

Hi,
I just bought a class 10 16gb off ebay. do class 10's not work? Or do I have to put certain files on the microsd to work? When I put it in the phone it just says there is no microsd but it works fine in my computer.
thanks
same thing happened with me as well. i had 8 gb micro sd card that came up with the phone.
yesterday i used it to install windows 7 on my acer aspire one d250 netbook. after that i formatted it and inserted into phone, it said "memory card removed, insert new one" though the computer was able to read it.
i reformatted it with fat32 and again inserted into myphone, same result
again with ntfs and same result(using mini tool partition wizard)
today also i kept playing with my sd card
just a couple of minutes ago i formatted my sd card with fat32
and then i right clicked my sd card in mini tool partition wizard>>>>> then i clicked "modify">>>>>>then clicked on "change partition type id"
>>>>>> i changed it to "0*06 fat16,greater than 32 mb" >>>>>>>and then yes
and guess what now my phone can read my sd card
and don't forget to apply changes on the left hand side on mini tool partition wizard
hope it helps
cheers
Yes .... i am not crazy.... both my 8gb and 2gb are not being recognized on x10i with baseband 54 or is it ... the xrecovery mod [Cyanogen6.1.3]gingerbread[v01]
either way i am going to downgrade to baseband 46 and do a full SEUS repair...
I would rather a working phone over the prettiest... left baseband 54 and did the SEUS repair tingy... and voila... it recognizes the card again ...HIP HIP HORRAY

one question that i really cant understand..
how wud you hit the format button on your phone when it cant detect any sd card.. i really dont understand.. please be specific.. thanks..
reflash 2.1
i used other sdcard then i reflash my phone back to 2.1 using update service.. and it works.. and yehey, it reads my old sdcard.. tnx to all
in some case the problem of the sdcard that no appear or not can be readed is a problem of the manufacturer, in my casi I'm using a Patriot 32 GB Class 10, the only problem may be in one time the sd locked and i can't write or do anything on it but i format it and that fixed

I think this is normal for sd card without ext partition.
have you try to un-mount and mount the sd-card?
can the sc card be read from recovery?

mounting it from cwm ? nope i havnt tried that.
Im not having any troubles at the moment with this new SD Card. I just wanted to try and get the old 8gb sd working. having 2gb isnt enough for all my music and apps.
Ive formatted the old sd card. but it still shows as having 6gb.. so 2 gb missing ? AND.. i can put it in my girlfriends phone, and load it up on the computer. put anything on it i want, but it wont read in ANY phone..
Use panasonic sd formater under win.

its basically a throw away sd card now, so ill give it a shot lol.
hoping i got the right program
** tried that... didnt work. it formatted the Sd Card. but still wont read in my phone.
Also tried to Mount the SD card from Cwm. but i get
Error mounting /sdcard!
not sure if this will help anyone.. but i partitioned the sd card ages ago, all was working fine... now, after formatting, my 8gb sd card is still just nearly 6gb. so 2 gb is missing.
connect the sd card to the computer via a card reader. delete all the partitions and then format it using the fat32 system. try to read it now. if it still doesn't work try to format it using the fat system. maybe this will work.

64Gb MicroSD card not visible over USB

I've just installed a Sandisk 64Gb MicroSD card, and formatted it on the S2. I previously had a 32Gb card. For some reason the new SD card is not visible on a PC when I connect in MTP mode - I can only see the 11Gb internal SD card. I'm running ICS (Resurrection Remix 1.1).
Has anyone else had problems with 64Gb cards?

Windows 7 only gives the option of exFAT or NTFS (it was formatted as exFAT). I tried formatting it to FAT32 from the DOS prompt but it just hung at 0% complete.
???
Apparently there's a way to use ntfc on gs2 but the guy who mentioned it on XDA ,I can't recall exactly what he said. He's called trev186

Firstly and most important point....any drive or storage media(external/internal) cannot be formatted to fat 32 filesystem if its capacity or size is more than 32 gigs......there are ways to format it to fat 32 but thats actually not pure fat 32....
Secondly s2 supports cards upto 32 gigs..i don't know how you actually are using it....it might not be giving you the full capacity of 64 gigs...(please confirm that)
So the case here may be that..either your sd card has been formatted to an unknown format by the phone that the pc cannot recognize when connected via phone...
So firstly please try re formatting the sd card with your phone and then plug it into your pc via the card reader...if your pc shows the option that the sd card needs to be formatted then...its true..use a 32 gig sd card or any compatible device...else try formatting it to fat 32 via usb extreme software (well google it)...
Else you cannot use it on s2 with ntfs format...cuz the s2 doesn't support ntfs...

When I formatted the card from the phone I got the "Blank USB Storage" notification immediately after the format was complete. If I then tried to copy anything to it using ES File Explorer (a file from the internal SD card for example) I got "copy failed".

(HELP) Anyone having issues mounting 64gb sandisk sd card on S III

Hi there guys
I have been having a problem with 3 sandisk 64gb micro sd cards. I always got them replaced but it is getting frustrating now. Obviously they are formatted in exfat format.
The problem starts when I copy data of over 30 gb. Once i copy the data n the sd is remounted or the phone is restarted i always get the message "damaged sd card" but when i read the card on pc through an adapter it shows the contents ok. So i want to know if anyone can help me so that I may not need to return the card this time around...

also had the same problem. i formatted the card to fat32 with 32xxx sectors with "GUIFORMAT" app for windows, the it works ok.
then after fat conversion, you can try to format the card to exfat using any app (not the windows one) search google, then it might work, didnt try myself as fat32 works great, and i can use it with the script that makes the card the phone memory, so now i got 64gb instead of 11.6gb of phone storage

I have the class 10 64Gb Sandisk sd card too with no problems.

if you are rooted you could try to format the card in CWM, not sure though if it is 1) possible and 2) if it is then formated to Fat32 or the system you had on it before.
You could also try to connect your phone to your PC and format it that way.

Hello, ty for taking the time to answer, but i tried both of those things, both in pc and cwm i can format, but i cant select how to format, i dont know if it formats to fat or to fat32 or to something other. Besides after trying to format i tried to use the int to ext sd swaping (the thing that i wanted to do in the first place and the reason why i need to format to ext 32) and it didnt work so i believe that formating without selecting TO WHAT to format doesnt work.
