hi guys,
i got a K17i miniPro, now have to choose the right Firmware
my usage will be: mainly Trillian, some daily-use Apps, OSM Navigation sometimes.
so i dont need eyecandy-blingbling fullysocial integrated Walkman stuff; so i dont want a Stock ROM
i very love CM 7.2 (Android 2.3.7) on my Ideos X3, but i heard CM9 should be more better
so... can you tell me please
what combinations are you using?
how are you using your phones?
and how long does your battery last finally?

Well,I m on MESA 1.6 Kernel and Stock ICS ROM at the moment and battery life is pretty good.
It ranges between 16-18h with heavy use up to 36-40h with light use of the phone.
They key thing is getting rid of all the bloatware that stock ICS has, plus using profiles as far as CPU
clock and Governors are concerned.I m sure that you know all the other tricks like a lower than 50%
screen brightness and Synch OFF and stuff like that.
Hope I helped.Good luck! Experiment and you ll find a good combination of settings.
N.
before installing any custom rom you have to first unlock bootloader then after flash underclock to increase battery lifetime
I did read somewhere that rage kernel is the best for getting the most battery life! Gnna try it soon !
Also use smartassv2 as ur governor with noop ... Underclock ur processor a bit
( I use mine at 834 MHz, runs smooth) ..u can always bring it back up if u feel like your phone is getting a little laggy.

I have tried both CM7.2 and CM9.0 RC2 on my XMP. CM9.0 RC2 still has some bugs. I have installed it twice. It boots ok but I have got two severe problems. There is a weird screen at the very first boot which tells you to input SIM lock key. I couldn't get past this screen. Another time, the launcher didn't load no matter how many times I rebooted.
I tried CM7.2, the ROM is very good and usable. But I don't know why my battery drains too much fast. I flashed the ROM while my phone was fully charged and also wiped the battery stats. But no good, the battery drains way too fast.
You can try kamarush's MiniCMSandwich Lite AOSP with Rage kernel or Krsh kernel. Very good ROM with very low battery drain.
I was using CM9 Stable on my XP Mini for the past week.
Battery life sucked really hard in comparison to MESA Kernel/Stock ROM.
We re talking about 10-14h for a full charge using Data (3G).
I m back on MESA/Stock again.
N.
Try Extended stock kernel with miniCMsandwich lite.

CPU max: 768mhz min: 249mhz
I lowered voltage by 50mV for all frequencies with "system tuner"
Governors: scary, smartassV2, interactive, brazilianwax. SmartassV2 is the most popular all around governor.
I'm also using "perapp" application. It allows me to set different CPU frequencies individually per application. e.g. when I enter a demanding app, it upscales the max CPU freq to 1ghz...
Try to use a light ROM, or simply remove bloatware manually.
Consider GB since it's less resource demanding, less lag and faster then ICS.
Xtended stock kernel{ICS} by expeacer has a good batt consumption. Rage for GB&ICS also.
For CM7, you can use ported Rage kernel by user greenalgae.

What is the Best Kernel for CM7 Nightlies
Hey guys you can post here what's the best kernel you guys have tried to your nightly CM7 rom, you may explain why.. and share you overclocking settings..
Is kernel XXXX good in performance and have good battery life?
If you dont experience black screens or other probs, you may share it to everyone who reads and visit this thread.
I think stock CM kernel with 122-729(interactive) mhz is the best.. but only bad thing is the camflick bug with OC, though the phone is working very smoothly even on 600 mhz.. Please suggest what governer should I use for best battery ?

Im using stock CM7 N20.. governor interactive @ 480-729
overnight sleep for about 8hrs.. my battery only drained 2%
with wifi gps and bluetooth off
there's no point in using another kernel with cm7 nightlies than the stock one...
btw you can you fserve's kernel for a good battery life...

Yes it was great.. but i noticed that ever i turn screen on, vertical lines appear before the lock screen.. i haven't encountered this on stock kernel.
Tried Franco's kernel to boost Fruit Ninja's performance. Didn't notice any difference, and got the unfortunate side effect of having my phone not coming back from sleep mode. Buttons would light up but the screen was dark. It would randomly come back up if I kept trying.
So far, CM7 kernel is good enough. Maybe it's just the P500 that isn't supposed to run games flawlessly.

same here ..i had that prob too with franco's ..looks like black screen
am using franco's kernel, the october version...its good, but the camera(stock) doesnt work, but 3rd party apps like lg camera, 360, etc..works just fine and yeah black screen bug i got it too, but disabling both screen off and on animation is okey, you just have to wait atleast 3 secs when unlocking, overall its okey still the best kernel and you can live with it.. by the way am using nightly no.16 and oc at max 672 and min 480 with interactiveX gov..i got 2days of normal usage, virtually no drain at standby, am just using gsm(2g checked) a little wifi, i think a total of 4hours, texting, few calls..and i dont play games since its battery hogger am glad to share mine
[KERNEL][GINGERBREAD]ta-gb-1.0 (28/01/2012)
I am using [KERNEL][GINGERBREAD]ta-gb-1.0 (28/01/2012) on nightly 20. I have no random reboots on receiving incoming calls.
Battery life is goo. I am on smartassv2 480/600. only problem is that camera flickers but snaps are okay.
good to here that.. but for me i think it would be great if some one who knows to modify the stock cm7 kernel.. like adding new governors like smartassV2 and interactiveX ..and give it a little tweaks.. it would be perfect then
Have been using Stock kernel from nightly #5 through to current run of nightly #31 I set O/C at 245/729 with ondemand and as long as my daughter doesn't get my phone and play games have had battery life up to 3 days. I leave wifi, data, gps disabled at all times unless I want to use them and I set screen at 0 bright indoors and set to 25% outside.
Adding the brightness controls and Data controls to the status bar makes it far easier to save battery by having the quick on/off button there. Funnily anyone that has used Stock 2.3.3 will tell you LG themselves implemented that too.
If anyone can get lupohirps Kernel from his ICS port to work on CM7 Nightly it has got SmartassV2 and a few other governors in it.

Yes.. ta-gb kernel is great ,though it drains battery a lot.. even it had undervolting features.
Should the battery drain in ICS version be so bigger than in gingerbread stock version?
I use MiniCMSandwich Lite AOSP but even with gouvernor and io scheduler set, the battery is gone in less than a day...
Do you have any ideas? I disable all unnecessary functions when not used.. :/
Likely yes because ICS is more demanding.

So in general, with the same usage behaviour, ICS will have greater power consumption than Gingerbread? I also have Huawei U8800 with Aurora ICS installed and didn't see such a difference compared to stock 2.3 firmware :/

ICS is bigger, more powerful, which means it will require more power from the phone and also more juice.
i used active n lww. both are using ics. but, the active the battery drain is so much more than lww. even when i try to use stock rom n kernel (my lww bootloader can't be unlocked) my lww stil can survive 1d 14h (even more) , but my active can survive max only 1 day..
i use both with the same usage of call , internet , messaging
My active lasts almost two days with data/wifi always on and normal usage, a few days ago, without any gaming i had 56hrs running before i had to recharge...I use JD plus and performance boosting scripts (and anonmous' excellent kernel) and also i use miui (but i think any rom can use it) which has lbe guard which allows to prevent any app from autostarting
yup, I've noticed this too. ICS drains battery way too fast. I'm using Active and have tried both stock rom/kernel and custom rom/kernel based on ICS. Now I'm back to GB, Spartan ROM / Rage kernel, battery lasts a little bit longer, half a day more I think. What's the practical advantage of ICS anyway? I really didn't notice any, hehe.

I overclocked to 1.89 , scaling is ondemand
Smoothness : very , very smooth
Battery life : the same for me
Cpu heat : Only when playing mc3 for 2 hours
---------- Post added at 10:05 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:01 PM ----------
And use AnTuTu cpu master , its more stable :good:
Before you doing something that can make your phone burn it is better for you to search an info about it. And there is a step of doing it not just simply swipe it to maximum clock. That is why the devs always remind us to take our own risk of overclocking. You can read more detail info from this link.

*Sorry for my english*
Overclocking the maximux cpu frequency doesnt mean heat/battery dies
It only increases the maximum level of what the frequency can reach , so if ur just browsing or watching utube or playing 2d games like angry birds , the fone wont run at the maximum overclocked frequency , so no effect will occur , but if u play a heavy game like modern combat 3 and u have overclocked , the cpu frequency will jump to the maximum and will cause heat after a while and more battery usage
Thats what i think
check my thread in the general section

no necessary to overclock
hey guys...i bought my SXS with android 2.3.7 ....3months ago....bootloader unlocked...rooted...and really...2x 1,5GHz is totally enough for your device...even Shadow Gun runs perfectly smooth without overclocking.......but if you have installed a custom rom...you will get lags e.t.c ....if so...download chainfire 3d from google market....free ofcharge...install the driver and everything should be ok now.
if you want to overclock....i advice you to use cpu tuner...uses a bit memory...and you may choose how many cpu should run....i prefer to select just one cpu " in settings...use dual cpu.....deactivate" ....and then overclock it...you will get a nice performance and a little more battery life.
hope it helped

No voltage control on any stock kernels for any devices. Only custom kernels offer that.

MiniCM10, don't go there and stay with ginger (Gingersony v06 is the best of all in all categories, battery life very good, you just have to flash a led fix and it's ok). Why? because it's almost the same as minicm9 but worse in audio, it has buggy low audio ( like 40% volume of an ginger rom ), and the only thing good in it is the battery life, almost the same as a ginger rom but i don't know for sure who's the best.
You're Welcome .

It's a matter of opinion, and MiniCM10 is very good, but lower versions of android just seem to work better on our phones. If you like the way your phone works, stick with MiniCM7, but by all means, give MiniCM10 a try, even if it's just for a day. If you're not happy, just roll back to MiniCM7.

As says SmG67, lower versions of android seems to work faster.

It's not fast, you just think it is xD. try putting that rom with 480mhz max/19mhz min and see the results comparing to a GB rom with those options as well, you will see that the difference is More than just Big xD, and don't forget that more Mhz means more battery drain, and the sound is Super low.

Compcache compresses ram memory for up to 20% more memory at the cost of CPU performance, device will become less responsible & slow
Swap speed depends to your sdcard class (write/read speed) the fastest sdcard is still slower than RAM
Less ram means less multi tasking & launcher redraws
Swap is necessary for our device because of tiny ram memory

Hi.
Several days ago my sola started to lag by itself, almost all the time. Recently I found out that the CPU usage was very high (ex: using governor performance the usage is 100% on 1.0 GHz, using powersafer it's 100% on 200Hz, using hotplug it runs around 80-90% on 200Hz or 1.0GHz, sometimes around 60%).
I also tried changing the I/O scheduler, it's not really working.
Sometimes it works normal, but mostly are when charging.
I'm a real noob for such thing.
Please, I beg of you, help me fix this problem, whenever this happens my heart broke.
Note : It's rooted, using Speedy kernel v5.5 or v5.0, I don't remember, Project GX Gaming ROM v5.0.0.

If i got u right u are using custom ROM?
Try to set back original one, that may solve your problem. I would suggest to stick with GB instead of ICS on Xperia Sola.
I am not a pro with all this stuff, but I was facing few problems with updating to... Downgrading to GB solved some of them
how s your battery life?
It depends on what governor I'm using, but that's not the main problem here.
It's about endless CPU usage for nothing that makes my phone lags all the time. Even it lags as hell right after boot now.
I'm about to change to Galaxy Y now though.
No need to do that... Everything is fixable... Mine works like a charm... No laggs at all.. Only thing I claim about is battery... Notice that there is no perfect phone around... And sola is not the worst one. But it s up to u to decide...
Good luck
