Does sprint...and the EVO LTE in particular...use voice over 3G like other carriers such as at&t?
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app
It's called SVOD, simultaneous voice over data. I believe the evo lte is the only sprint phone with this feature. The Samsung GSIII might but I don't know for sure.

Sgs3 does. As well as a few phones on VZW.

I'm not talking about using data and voice at the same time, I'm talking about voice being carried over 3g.

This guy should be slapped with a fish. Search before posting.
You guys still don't get it.

If you don't get the answers you're looking for from us then call sprint and ask them yourself.

This isn't the best way to get answers. If people aren't getting what you're asking, you should elaborate and clarify.
I understood his question- and the answer is no..

I'm not sure but seeing as how this is in the q&a I think it's a legitimate question.

I believe voice is carried over 1x after doing some further research. Sprint claims that until they release voice over LTE phones, voice will be carried over the 1xrtt, or 2g network. I don't get why they do not have voice over 3G like at&t. Maybe CDMA isn't able to do so.

Just wanted to let people who are the fence know that the HTC REZOUND DOES DATA & VOICE OVER 3G AT THE SAME TIME! Just like the Thunderbolt! Those are the only two Verizon Wireless phones with this capability that I know of!

Ahh. I misread your post. I thought you meant only 3G. I made a call yesterday and it said I had 4G. Just making sure
Post fixed ;-)

Yea, I noticed it when I got an e-mail while on a 3G call. Made me think for a second and I pulled up Boat Browser while in the call lol.
I have the sprint S 3 but there's no 4gLTE in my area, would I be able to get the international version and use that on the sprint network? Cause lte is the reason you can't use the quad core right?

Yea, different sections, not allowed? I remedied it.
Fixed.

Yup np. Well its I guess like spamming and if the mods saw it, there would've been a fiasco here!

Any info bout the lte?
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
The international version doesn't have CDMA radios.
Lte will be rolling through the country later on. Get the quad if you don't want to wait til that happens

No no no, it won't work. Sprint uses CDMA radios, the international has GSM radios. You misunderstood.
Sprint is cdma but LTE is GSM technology. Just to complicate things.....

But the international has no LTE. So it will absolutely not work on Sprint.

People still use CDMA? Crappy technology, is crappy.

I so agree with you!!! I want to go to ATT or TMobile because they're GSM Networks but Sprint is giving me a crazy deal that I could never drop.

In much of the US CDMA coverage is superior to GSM coverage. I almost never do not have at least CDMA for voice. When I was with ATT on a GSM phone that was definitely not the case.
Well maybe TMobile is better. I find with Sprint. I only get service in about 60% of the places I go

Does this phone have that weird work around like the rezound where you can talk on the phone and surf the net at the same time on cdma(3g)

Not so much a work around as having an active 1X advanced antenna that Qualcomm Chipsets support. Thunderbolt, Rezound and SIII has it, unfortunately the DNA does not.

Under the "Communication" section on Verizon's spec sheet, it says, "Simultaneous voice and data". Doesn't that mean you can talk and surf at the same time?

Yea, on 4g at least. But 4g us everywhere so even if it doesn't work over 3g it really doesn't matter.

I didn't see that part... And true, lte is basically everywhere. It's just cool and nice to know that if I'm not in lte, that I can't talk and surf at the same time. Lol

Every video I see of Google Now online, or in commercials, it shows it speaking results...but on my EVO it doesn't do this. Does anyone's EVO speak results?

Even though I have the hotword detection enabled in the settings under voice, when I say "Google" to Launch Google now like they do in the commercials it never works. Anyone have any idea why?

2 questions...
1st, I live in a non 4G area. Is it possible to get on a different carrier's 4G? Or just switch to 3g when roaming?
2nd, a friend has a straight talk phone. Is that possible to switch to my sprint plan? I have a phone on standby and I'm trying to use it up.
Thanks XDA

I don't think you can roam on another carrier's network since they use different LTE spectrum bands like 800,1900,700 etc. Sprint uses 1900 MHz LTE

To answer the second question, no, Sprint will only activate phones in their database which are Sprint branded phones.
