Software update again and again - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just bought a new SGIII and I'm having a annoying software update problem.
There is a kind of automatic system software update. It says: "Previous update package downloaded. Install update now? (During installation the device cannot de used, not even for emergency calls)"
It gives me the option of install the new update of the option "Later" which let me wait a maximum of 3 hours!!
The notification doesn't stop. Does anybody know how to stop this automatic updates???
Thank you!

since I bought it.it only update twice.and it didn't last to long(10min max). try with wiping the phone

dummy update
it comes up when I check for a system update, I went the first route when it first appeared on the server, after it started I turned my phone off and when restarted the update came through on the system update, then as I've plaed around checking for sys updates it comes up as optional update .99.99.999 dummy update Verizon signed size in a very small kilobyte, pops up about every 3 days or so asking if I want it, has anyone had any experience with this, thx for the reply but I'm afraid that I'm stuck on a bad path and cant figure out what this small update could be, anyone ? please?

[Q] Software update asking to update ?!

Hi!
Today ICS for TPH (unbranded) was released according to @SamKiesUpdates and sort after I began receiving a update message from Software Update service asking to update (When I bought the phone I in my naiveness turn the options on on Settings->About->Software Update).
Software update never asked me for nothing and every time I did a check for update it said none until today.
My question is: Is there a way to stop it from asking? I can postpone the update up until 7 days but the icon saying that it was postponed stays nagging
Also does anyone know the download folder for the service in case it has download the ROM update?

Pretty simple...Go to settings-->about phone-->Software Update-->Uncheck Auto update and Push message option...Probably reboot if required.
And that should do it.
Don't forget to hit the thanks button if it helped.
Thanks for the tip, it helped but wasn't enough...
I had to go also to Settings->Applications->Manage Application->All->Software Update and do a Clear Data
Then I rebooted just to be sure... and it stopped
Please set it again and dont clear data.

accidentally cancelled the ota

my friend accedentally pressed "cancel" when the ota notification pop up. when she went to settings to check for updates, a small window pop up n shows "access to the software update service is provided to users in the order in which they request it. pls try later"
she tried to reboot her phone but still no luck.
any help?
thanks!:fingers-crossed:
I had this too yesterday when I tried to update from ICS to JB, this morning I tried again and it worked. :cyclops:
Seems that they have some kind of limit for daily updates or something :S
Unfortunately she couldn't get the notification again
When she try to check the update, same thing appears
Any help??

I had that all the time....had to do it through KIES in the end
Why don't you just use Odin? One quick download and then flash the phone. If you prefer using the phone and not a computer get Mobile Odin.

Try a Factory Reset & See if you can get the OTA & successfully update - If not - You can Download the latest Stock Samsung Firmware from sammobile.com and Flash with Odin 3.13.1 ?

This happened on my ATT S9+ on ARG7. It was failing the OTA to ARG8. I Odin'd to 3ARG8 and haven't had an ota since.

Losing root after every security update

I am having some issues with the G9 I am working with. I have root using the latest Magisk. But every time a "security update" installs and reboots the phone, I lose root. So I go back into fastboot and reflash the boot img. That solves the problem. But it is a minor nuisance I am trying to workaround. I have tried searching for days, trying to figure out how to STOP system updates. I installed a root service disabler and disabled a few different services.
I still cannot seem to figure out what service is downloading updates. I have already gone into Developer Options and disabled automatic updates. And there was an update waiting that I kept paused. Last night I got the popup reminding me about it. And it was supposed to "remind me later". But instead installed it in the middle of the night.
I could care less about opinions on whether or not to allow updates. I would just like to know what service or file I need to cripple to get it to stop. I want to decide if or when something runs on my phone. Any ideas? Android 9.
And you will lose root after update, it's normal

If you are using a G9, not a G9 Pro, could you please link me to the stuff to root it?
