Sorry never realised it was against rules to ask that, just didn't want to brick my phone
Just follow guides step by step and you will not brick your phone...
To be safe just get roms based on CM9, CM10 or AOKP. Should not have brick bug.

How to know which kernel is correct?
As of now I am using Sensation rom which has Siyah kernel 2.5.2 and I want to flash speedmod kernel or N.E.A.K. Kernel,
N.E.A.K. Kernel only supports sammy roms
I tried to search but I could not find out if Sensation rom is aosp or sammy do you have any idea of it?
also does speedmod kernel support both as nothing it written about it on its thread

Normally on the first page of a rom thread you will get a description what is the rom. For example MIUI is well MIUI. Hyperdroid is sammy deodex rom with of course modifications and tweaks in the build to make it better than stock.
Sensation rom is sammy deodex no aosp nothing like that. And when you normally look for an AOSP rom it normally would say it in the heading of the thread anyway.
On the kernel thread it has a guide of what roms the kernel works on and which ones it does not. Siyah works basically with any rom. CM7 to AOSP to sammy deodex. Regarding Simone's kernel which is the NEAK version or something like that it is based on only sammy stock deodex roms and that is mainly the ones in original development and android..just look out for deodex, sammy and stock rom
AS above its all a question of reading the info on the first page of the kernel post .
Plus if it does not work flash another one .
the Neak kernel should be ok been on mine for a few days .
Speedmod likewise ok have used it before .
jje
Thanks everyone for their wonderful help!
I have got one last question
Speedmod kernel says "it is only for Samsung Gingerbread ROMs. It will not work with CyanogenMod or MIUI ROMS!"
does this means it will not work with sensation rom?
Edit: ok looks like the different versions are just the updated ones
But still the question is if it supports sensation rom?

Now, if you look at the VERY FIRST page for SensatioN ROM,, it says:
SensatioN ROM Features:
-Based on Samsung Firmware XWKK5 Android 2.3.6
With all of this information, you should be able to deduce that the Speedmod kernel WILL work with your ROM. If you still don't understand, I'm going to suggest you don't flash anything to your phone, for fear of ending up with a paperweight.
Ok this time I understand everything
I didn't knew that Sammy roms means that the ROM is based on Samsung's stock ROM
Also I thought that speedmod only works on stock ROM so all this things got me confused
But anyways now its all clear

hi guys,
i'm new here so i don't know how everything works,so i could use some help.. i've recently rooted my phone using CF-ROOT 5.0 XWKJ1 and i'm a bit confused what to do now.. i wan't my phone to run on newest stock firmware, which one should I use ? the most recent one in intratech thread is XWLA4 (phone is XXKI4,just like mine,so it is for my phone or what does it mean? ), can I just flash it to the phone ? can i do it through CWManager app ? and i still don't entirely understand the difference between Kernel and ROM, I'd also like to try the cyanogen mod, what should I do first ? and how can I flash back original stock rom ? because cyanogen is 100mb and original rom is 8, so I'm not sure if it will restore the phone to the stock state after flashing stock rom back.. and yes, I've read the guide to GalaxyS2 and Android, but still do not understand everything..
thank you guys for your effort.

You need to start reading the guides your questions are all answered in the relevant guides .
You want CM you follow the instructions for CM you want xxx you follow the instructions .
ROM is firmware kernel is part of the firmware that interfaces OS and Hardware .
But suggestion is to wait for release of ICS .

Take time out to read the guides as it'll help you out.

Hi everyone! I've had for an year an amazing Nexus S (aw.. so google..) and now I'm a very happy owner of a GSII (so freakin' fast!). I thouhgt to keep the telephone with the original rom waiting for ICS but... when I saw the so HEAVY personalization by samsung! Sigh... it's so Gingerbread! it even seems ICS!
Now the question.. I've seen so many acronyms near the roms. What they stand for? I mean like XXLPQ, LPQ, LPE, XXLPH or stuff like that.
And what if I would put on a rom that is PURE GOOGLE? I saw the WanamLite, is it stable/fast/daily-use? Do you suggest this or other roms?
How to install cooked roms? With the NS you have to unlock the bootloader, install the cwm and you're done. Do you have to unlock the bl with the GSII? Can I install the cwm with rom manager and then I'm done?
THANKS A LOT!

That is the firmware version and/or region. Latest is ICS XXLPQ.
I suggest you Checkrom v6 (soon ICS!) is the most stable popular and stable rom around.
Thanks, but how? xD
As I said I don't have idea. Any bootloader to unlock? Just download rom manager and install the cwm?
Start with the faqs guides and other stuff all sticked at the top of the page .

galaxy phones can be tricky if you came from a nexus. Basically you have to read the FAQs, but in terms of flashing stuff the biggest difference is that the recovery and kernel are linked. You can't flash a separate recovery, and that's why you can't use clockworkmod.
There is no bootloader unlock thingy also. But you'll need Odin instead.
Keeps these points on mind and then read the FAQs again. And good luck!

Check out galaxys2root.com. It has detailed video tutorials on everything you need.
I bought my GS2 only 5 days ago and already went through installing Resurection remix 9.4, 9.6 and 9.7 and loving it
I've just installed the Omega V5.0 ICS ROM and its awesome, and is based off the XXLPQ firmware
Method,
I started from a 2.3.5 firmware, rooted it using a cf-root-sgs2_xx_oxa_ki3-v4.1-cwm4.zip and odin.
I copied the Omega zip rom to my sd card, rebooted into clock work recovery (the chainfire kernel installed clockwork automatically)
Followed the instructions for doing the thee wipes on the Omega home page.
and did the install from the sd card.
Hope that helps some...
Obivously every custom rom has its own instructions.
Hi Guys,
i'm using stock ROM which was updated from Samsung official store
look out the screen shoot below. i don't like to be in this ROM.
wanna go for custom ROM i heard wanamlite and litening ROMS are best could you please guide me to install custom ROM and which ROM is best.
thanks in advance.
Check out this thead from the same forum you've just started your thread in
1) There is no best rom. Try bunch of roms out until you find one you like.
2) How to flash a rom ? Read the Stickies or follow the instructions for flashing a particular rom.
How is this urgent?
Do us all a favour and make like a tree.

Choose a ROM that is meant for your model of phone.
First thing you should do is check your phone's model number. It will be printed on the label underneath your battery.
If it says GT-i9100, GT-i9100T, GT-i9100P, or GT-i9100M then you're in the right place. Just make sure NOT to use any ROMs from the I9100G subsection.
If it says GT-i9100G, MAKE SURE you ONLY use ROMs from the I9100G subsection, and not from any of the other subsections.
If it says anything else, you're in the wrong Galaxy SII forum (there are several).
First off, do your research. Don't rely on other people to tell you what ROMs to flash, or anything like that. Go read through a few threads on how to root the device, how to flash a custom kernel and a custom ROM. Once you think you've got that, start trying out different ROMs and kernels. Just make sure to stick away from any ROMs that have in their title "LQ5" and you'll be fine -- no brick.
A few recommendations...
ROMs:
CyanogenMod 9 (my personal favourite)
ParanoidAndroid
Resurrection Remix ICS
Kernels:
SiyahKernel
N.E.A.K. ICS
Fluxi ICS
Check the links in my signature for help.

hi...its me again....successfully flash CMD9 ROM on my phone....i do a back up in CWM ....if i want to flash back to the oroginal stock ROM...
can i just go back to CWM and do a restore or do i need to use ODIN to flash using the stock ROM...
You should be able to just go into CWM & restore your backup if the backup is of the (rooted, I presume) stock rom.
There is a thread of official stock roms that are flashable with odin so maybe you can check that place out?
