Ok
Starting a new thread here because i have read that all the turbo devices that have the omap 4460 cpu inside should have 1gb ram and that is not the case with my device. for info purposes i have the archos 80 g9 turbo model running ics and the cpu is the omap 4460 running at 1.5ghz but the ram is only listed as 512mb which is all a bit disappointing.
i have checked the hardware config using android system info and it confirmed everything i have written above and that even though i do indeed have the 1.5 omap i still only have 512mb ram. so i am wondering what is going on?
by the way ics is installed and i am running the latest firmware.
so can anyone enlighten me? is it only the 101 models that get the 1gb ram and if it isnt and the 80s should also have it then what am i missing?
I have the Archos 80 G9 Turbo model also running a 1.5 CPU and 1gb ram, and running ICS, how do you find your CPU model number so I can compare?

how do you know you are running 1gb ram? it doesnt say it in the settings at least not anywhere i could see.
the cpu model is listed in the settings - about tablet and it is listed under OMAP version mine is the OMAP4460 ES1.1
if you install 'android system info' it is a decent app and it will list everything to do with your device set up.
that is how i found out there was only 512mb ram... there isnt even 512mb ram as it goes it is listed as about 488mb and i will say not a lot is free so having 1gb would be welcome here.
oh yes i called archos and they said they would call me back later today or tomorrow but it would be good to get a bit of user feedback here so i can be better informed when and if they do actually get back to me.
OK just checked and have the same CPU as you, I use Android Assistant to see my memory.
Edit: My memory is 892.98mb apparently the missing ram is for the system. Seems its hit and miss what spec's you get with your archos lol

yes very poor show here i have to say. i bought a turbo model and although i wasnt sure which cpu was in there i was hoping it was the 1.5ghz one because everything i have read points to that having the 1gb installed. amazing that i get the cpu i want only to find it doesnt actually have the ram it is supposed to.
bleeding annoying really. archos really should simply concentrate on making one device that is well made and works properly (getting loads of bugs appearing regarding the archos music player that refuses to close once started!!!) instead of releasing the same model but with loads of random pot luck specs.
may need to sell this on pretty sharpish much like i did the 70 it. hopefully one day i will learn my lesson and simply avoid the brand.
will try installing a custom rom later to see if that helps but i aint holding my breath.
well i am gutted. i called archos back today and the guy (who was actually very helpful) said that only the models that were released after march came with the 1gb ram and it has nothing to do with the turbo model or the cpu. basically the only way to be sure is to buy the model with ics on the box.
oh well. i guess i will be selling it on. thankfully i got it cheap so should be able to get my money back. shame really cos despite its very budget nature (and numerous flaws lmao!!!) it dont seem half bad.

I've heard that you guys have folio100s with 512MB ram,
But mine has 1GB ram, dunno why....
now that I flashed Dexter's Mod foliomodv1.4,
which is a 512MBRAM version,
Now my OS cannot recognize all of my RAM, it just recognizes 751MB of the 1GB.
the data is gotten from typing 'free' in console mode.
what should I do to find the hidden part of my ram back to work?
I've tried CyanogenMod7, and it's worse, the ram decreases to exactly 512MB.
Thx to anyone who will help me with this!Sincerely!
How do you know there is really 1Gb ram in your folio ? Don't you think it's probably just a bug showing 1 gb intead of 512 mb?

it says so on the label at the back side beside the battery.
and when I'm on native rom the 'free' command shows 990MB free memory, and I always use up to 700+MB ram running all kinds of apps.
but however, as everybody knows, the native rom sucks.
so, is there a way I can adjust the foliomod to yield some more ram?
OK. I was a bit surprised and was thinking that it could be due to a bug.
Unfortunatly I have no answer to your problem.
Is this one of the new batch that was supposed to relaunch in April, or are you just lucky?

The native rom will tell you your total ram is 990MB. And you can experience great multitasking !
So, dude, wr are the minority, we should try to fix it, don't you think?
I bought my Folio a month ago and only have 512 Mb reported by Cyanogen.
Do someone know why there are some differences here ?
Mine has 512 mb ram, and 1gb for app installation.
Maybe the inscription in the box is 1gb of ram , for app.
If you really do have 1 gb of ram, lucky you
Ill check that out, ill post my results here then

who would continue with this problem?
I am still confused, I recently have returned to the native rom and obtained the latest official update, it is really stable, with touchscreen responsive, though poor graphic performance(opengl1.1) and wrong direction of sensor in some games.
but the ram reported is the same as foliomodv1.4, that is, 751MB, don't you think it is interesting? it's like the DDR2 ram has 8 blocks with each 128MB, and foliomod has discovered only 6 of them, while Cyanogenmod discovered only 4 of them, that's why Cyanogenmod reports 482MB total ram.
in fact, seen from the dissembly pictures sent from a guy in China like me, there really are 8 similar blocks on the chipboard, with 128MB written on each block as the guy told.
So what do you think, guys? Is it possible to find the hidden memory blocks and get them to work? I think it is highly possible, for different roms report different total ram, and some of them well exceeds the assumed 512MB, that's an implication that some of the folio100 really are bestowed with 1GB ram, rather than 512MB. So why can't there be a rom that makes full use of the ram?
I believe we are the last group of Folio100 users inthe world, so we are gonna stick together to make the most out of our device, guess what, newly published devices mostly have the same hardware as our folio(I mean the 1GB version), except for the screen, but I don't see it as an unacceptable shortcoming. Lower resolution sometimes mean higher performance. I've tried Backbreaker THD running on MOTO XOOM, though the graphics are good, but as I expected it isn't so smooth as running on Folio100. So disadvantages come with advantages, that's why we'll stick to Folio100, at least Before Tegra3 becomes trivial.
Expecting replies from you !! In hope of a better rom and a better tomorrow!
Me too...
CM9/ICM , it just recognizes 512MB of the 1GB.(RAM)
But FolioNotion2.0 recognizes 1G.
I can't paly games like Plants vs Zombies in CM9/ICM ,But in FolioNotion,It works perfect....
I am still confused...
folio100---512M Rom
AS100---1G Rom
Xda Rom just dev for folio100... So,we are just recognizes 512M.
but FolioNotion have recognizes 1G,Why?
1GB with foliomod 1.4
as100 with 1gb ram,and a recently flashed ics rom changed it to 375mb.......those who r confused with the 1gb ram on folio can go to search the pics of disassembly of as100 in some chinese website, after u do that u could fing that there r 8 ram chips installed on the pcb while some of the folio may only have 4installed...
i checked now my folio,...

Maybe someone can test it with Ubuntu?
I have the sticker with 01GB000.
I checked the picture of the hardware (ref.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=868617)
On one side there are 4 chip NT5TU128M8DE-AC that is a 128Mx8 DDR2-800
so 128M x 8 = 1Gbit and 4 x 1Gbit = 4Gbit = 512 Mbyte.
On the other side there is a place for additional RAM (see picture BILD2387)
If you have the chips in these place you have additional 512Mbyte of ram otherwise no.
To open this box you have to remove only the back cover and open the box with a cutter under the corner with the arrow.
In my case there aren't additional chips of RAM.
So the sticker 01G000 is not for RAM info.
Sorry.
Bye

I've just checked and there's no extra RAM for me as well.
Thank you anyway for your explaination.
I also have the AS100 model with 1GB RAM. Does any one know how to modify ROM to detect all available RAM?
These are super limited. They were released on the 20th on the HP site at $599 then pulled before they sold many. I am not sure why they did this. Maybe they will relist them when the last wave of HP Touchpads go for sale.
Aside from it being 1.5 GHz and having 64 GB of space, what differences are there? Think it is a higher binned CPU? Maybe it will hit 1.9 GHz easily. Perhaps it even has better cooling since it is clocked higher. I also wonder if the PCB is different. Maybe it has a USB powered 4G "slot" somewhere on it. That would be a fun mod to give the tablet a USB port with a little soldering. Hopefully they used the same PCB as the 4G version.
I get mine Tuesday. Anyone else here get one and willing to disassemble?
If you are wondering what the hell I am talking about, you can refer to the post on SD that points to a site where 200 were sold.

No, my understanding is that it's the same SoC as the 16/32gb version. The same thing was going to happen for the HSPA+ AT&T version.

This is why OC'ing to 1.5ghz is virtually danger free.

1.7 should be virtually risk free as well.
Dual core Scorpions have a baseline of 1.2Ghz and a max of 1.5Ghz. Anything above 1.5Ghz is a risk.
wrong the 1.2 on our cpu is under clocked. 1.5 is normal and 1.7 is a super easy 200mhz OC

While that may be true for some chips, its obviously not true here. No manufacturer will release a chip and use it to its max potential right off the bat. Not only is that dangerous (overheat/melting/high failure rates), but not good business sense.
All newer smartphones/tablets, especially ones running The snapdragon chip and the tegra 2 chip are ALL underclocked slightly.
In our case, HP UNDERclocked our chip. Normally it sees duty running @ 1.5ghz (as in the white TP), but they chose to run it at 1.2ghz in ours. Thats why its deemed safe to "overclock" our TP to 1.5ghz, and some like me, clock it @ 1.712.

its possible for HP to be binning the CPUs for the 1.5ghz
(like how AMD bins the quad core CPUs. if it doesn't make the cut, disable that core and sell it as tri-core CPU)

Well, I started using it today. So far I have logging off, dev mode on, preware installed. I am not going to change the kernel because for all I know it bricks the 64GB versions. I think I will hold out until overclocking is as simple as an app like with the hd2.
If anyone has any specific questions or things that I can look up, please ask.
I've got a question - what on earth possesses someone to spend four times as much money to get a device that is a different color and comes with $10 more worth of storage?
;-)
Has anyone tried the kernel from the 64gb to the 16/32gb models?
Official speed up?
Just so I can say I have one of the super rare white ones. TBH, I tried getting the other ones and was out of luck. I was on vacation Friday-Sunday that weekend. I placed orders on Sunday night and this was the only one to go through. I was on them the second they were posted on SD. 260 shipped for a tablet that hardware wise is better than the Ipad 2 64GB is a good deal in my book. Right now it sucks for apps, but I am sure the android port will fix that within the next 6 months.
Supposedly someone has overclocked it. Go to page 41 on that thread I linked on my first post here. Someone claims to have overclocked it to 1.92 causing it to lockup. 1.7 seems stable. I guess that is no different than the 16 and 32.

Frequency HP let them run at? 1.5 GHz is stock clocks for our processor. Which is why everyone can "OC" to it so easily. HP underclocked for battery/heat reasons.

There's no easy way to do it.
RAM is mounted as PoP on top of the CPU.
To change it you need good soldering skills and very lucky hands
The trouble is you that might easily damage your hardware during soldering process and you'll have to find a supplier for a new one with higher capacity.
These RAMs are mostly OEM supplied chips.

1.) It looks like 100% Korean.
2.) I don't think it mentions having 1GB of RAM , so I'd doubt it.
3.) I'm pretty sure they wouldn't work, the developers would have to adapt the current ROMs to it.
Bottom line : Don't buy it. It still has a low screen resolution, barely changed camera (3.2mp -> 5mp). Who knows about the RAM, it's Korean so it's OVERPRICED. A dual-core processor isn't worth buying a whole new device plus paying a premium.
Save your money and wait for a US/International version. Preferably a US since it'll probably sit around the current Galaxy 5 prices of $230/$270 (changes a lot) and may have better specs, hard to tell for now.
According to a guy in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1593190
It does have 1GB of RAM but it isn't worth the price tag. Samsung said there wouldn't be a us version. (probably would have been announced with the 3.6 & 4.2 if it was coming state side)

I have sgp 5.0 and the device is slow i dont have enough free ram (max 140 free ram after closing some apps that return automatically run again later)
I use tegrak oc so i have 1.3 ghz to make the device work faster but it still slow.
Games like pib got a lot of little stops and it sometimes even temple run.
And its little embarrassing that you give the device to a friend and it start to stuck in the games and then i need to taje the device and start kill the apps and hope it won't stuck again. Sometimes it stucks reallt hard so i need to restart the device.
This is why i want to buy the new galaxy player because it much much better.
The problem is that there are not a lot of devs to the galaxy player so it doesn't have a lot of roms :-\

I have got one GB70D and it does have 1GB RAM. But I am not sure which cpu it has. The gpu is PowerVR SGX 540, and the frequency is 300~1008MHz. It seems to be omap 4430, but i run Antutu benchmark and compare its score with LG P920. The 2D and 3D scores are much lower than P920.
I just got a used GP70+ (YP-GB70D) and it has 1 GB RAM.
I am quite disappointed with it - the major problem is the Adobe Flash performance of videos played in the web browser.
The GP70+ has flash 10.3 installed. Since Flash player is no longer available in Google Play, I use backup copies from my other phones and tablets and .apks from apktop. Flash 11 does NOT work - either causes force closes, or start playing and freezes. I installed the last version of Flash 10 before 11 (10.3.186.7), and it can only play up to 480p video - NO HD Flash, that completely freezes.
This is really unacceptable for a dual core OMAP4430 device. My GP5.0 and the Galaxy S phone has a single core Hummingbird CPU. It has Flash 11.1 and can play up to 720p Flash video in the browser.
The device also feels a little sluggish for a dual core tablet, even when using GO Launcher. It has a 800 x 480 screen, which is lower resolution than eg. Kindle Fire (which also has OMAP4430), the GPU drives fewer pixels and everything should be faster.
One big plus is that 1080p STORED videos (MP4, DIVX) play flawlessly with MX player - MX player shows that hardware decoding is enabled. HW acceleration is NOT supported in the single core GP5.0, and it can only play up to 720p (some not all, depending on bitrate).
P.S. By the way, if any GP70+ owners want a copy of the rooted firmware of this player (GB70KRLD2), please post your request here or PM me (I don't want the upload link to be killed quickly). I searched high and low and finally found it in a Chinese forum (Google Translate saves the day!). Thank goodness it was still good for download.
Is there any noticeable performance difference between these two versions?
yes 1.5 ghz is much smoother, apps run better, most have 1gb RAM. However, it still has problems. If you are set on an archos, go for the 1.5 turbo, and make sure it has 1gb ram (mine said it on the box)

you can oc 1ghz to 1.2, which helps a little. I would highly recommend 1.5 ghz tho if you can get one.
For the problems, just the standard bugs, archos firmware is still buggy, however 4.0.7 works good for most.
