I'm not particularly fond of Samsung's default button layout and I wish it was this way (maybe some developer can hack it to make it so?)
Home Button:
Single Press - Home
Double Press - SVoice (Which can be disabled)
Long Press - Search
Menu Button:
Single Press - Multitasking (this is the most used button after home so it must be quick to access in my opinion)
Long Press - Settings
What do you guys think?
Menu button :
single press for multitasking - I don't use that. Scrolling the task menu is slow and annoying. I prefer going back to any apps by clicking on the apps icon on my home screen.

Task menu is slow cause of the long press, and that's exactly why it would be great to have that on single press

I think its slow because you can see what, 4 apps on the screen? PITA imo, I usually have so much stuff open that a reboot is faster than swiping it all away

Is there anyway I can remove the thing when I press the home button the preview of my pages show? Just don't like it and it lags. Thankss.
Go into settings, where it asks what pressing home actions are, something like that, select do nothing. It is not the one that brings you to home screen, just what hitting home does when you are already there.

Of course I checked that already. Miui does not have that option
Is there a mod that enables clear all? Thanks.
This would be really useful!

You can clear recent app on a phone with button by long pressing the home and swipe on an app; with a phone with software button like Galaxy nexus you can use the multitasking button and swipe the app you want to close.http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

I know that you swipe to clear one app, but I'm after a mod that clears all of them

nothing new yet??
Does anyone have a tweak or MOD that allows you to hold the menu button and something come up? As Sony Ericsson devices don't have a search button, I would really like to hold the Menu button to search.
Currently, on stock ROM, holding the menu button brings up keyboard(on LWW and others with onscreen keyboard).
Ah, I see you have Mini Pro.
I read about the remapping keys by long press and according to me, it was not possible yet on Xperia's. I am not sure right now, if I see/hear something, I will let you know.
On mini Pro just open the (HW) keyboard on the home screen and start typing. These are the search keys.

it would be better if holding the menu button task manger/task switcher will appear

If you hold the home button, recent apps will appear. Not sure if you already knew that, tough

Of course I know that. Duh it's just that holding the home button to open recent apps is not comfortable, the button is too hard to press. Maybe its just me though

Any easy way to change functions of things like home/menu buttons, if for example I want to quickly pull up task manager without having to long press home. I find that to be tedious.

Here is an app that can launch apps by pressing home button twice.

Meh, I'd rather a single press for task manager, or better yet.. menu key and then hold for menu. I don't need hold menu for search.
Nova launcher lets you do what you please with menu and home buttons, for long and short press
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda app-developers app
Thanks for that recommendation, I'm using that nova as my default launcher. But it still doesn't really do what I'm looking for. It only works while on desktop and doesn't have a tap menu feature. I need something global. Hope I'm not being too picky lol

If you're rooted, you can edit the function of the home button pretty easily.

If you use that tutorial above, you'll see the properties of the keys. I enabled the on screen keys, disabled the capacitive keys, and remapped the home button to launch the camera instead of being a home button.

did you close the application or just pressing your home button and re-opening the apps ?
in some case, the apps will read your action pressing home button like the exit button, so the apps just killing itself

Did u press the hm button or the back button? If home button, when u switch over to it, it shld resume instead of restarting the app. However if u press back button, when u switch over to the app. It will be new instead of resuming. Rmb if u wan multi task, press hm button. And when u wan to return back to the app. Hold the hm button and find the app and press it. Dun open it thru the apps place.
