To get S-Off, has anyone tried rolling back to the old RUU (Prerelease) and using HTC Dev? It probably won't work, but it might be worth a shot...
htc dev wont work, they arent going to give an unlock key,it doesnt matter what firmware we are running.
from what i can gather, zergRush works,we need to be able to disable emmc write protect so that a new hboot can be written. im assuming the usual exploits for this are not working,or it would be out by now.
it may be possible that an older ruu may be more "exploitable" i dont reeally know.
i hope some breakthrus come... i hate to think htc devices are going to become "unlockable" like moto i like the rezound but have got to hold out till it has at least a software s-off.
id also be happy with clip support, since i have one of them
edit: htc dev unlock is a joke anyway. i do appreciate the efforts on their part to satisfy the root community, but it is not an s-off. what you get,is an unlocked s-on hboot that lets you change recovery, boot, and system. no radio or hboot changes, and no backwards RUUs without rewriting the misc image.
its unfortunately far from the freedom from a true unsecured bootloader. it may well be good enuff for most folks, but im not happy with that.
It's a good thought tho. Yeah the htc method for the EVO users sucked. I Mena u could still flash roms and such bit they had to have a stock kernel as a default In order to flashed em thru recovery. But I wouldn't be to happy with that either. So I can't blame ya. But if that all we were offered then I would have to live with it.

i would wait. we waited for evo 3d root far longer.
it really is a great phone. read engadgets review. they really explain the screen resolution very well with graphs. its sold as a music phone but at this time it is the best screen res in the world. the nexus and razor are inferior in that area. watching hd video on it is pretty cool

htc has been locking their bootloaders, this is nothing new. in the past, its just been easy to find work arounds to either turn of the radio secure flag off,or to sneek an eng hboot(that pretends the radio is s-off ) onto the device, and its always happend quickly,in most cases before the device even came out.
to my knowledge there is not encription, like there is with moto bootloaders, ist just that we currently have no way to write a new hboot in place of the current one.
if there is not a real engineering hboot for the rezound, its not too difficult to patch a stock hboot to not do radio checks, and to provide fastboot commands, and even protect itself from being overwritten(all these are characteristics of the revolutionary hboot), its just a matter of an exploit to get it in place.
i know i sort of started that ball rolling with my comment, but i wouldnt give up just yet. hopefully someone whose smarter than us will figure it out. or the clip will support it. or both
im not saying i wont get it,but im still happy with my thunderbolt,i dont need a new phone yet,so i will wait untill we have s-off,or possibly until 4 core processors come out next year

C'mon, the phone hasn't even been out a week. It takes time, but the devs almost always find a way in.
I believe that HTC not posting an unlock key is of course Verizon's doing but as was mentioned that is not true s off.
Im also of the opinion that this boot loader isn't encrypted. Im pretty confident s off will come

Well if it helps, the RUU didn't work. It aborted midway through and gave an HBOOT error. I might try again, but it's probably not worth losing my data for.
If it can be done xtc clip will do it and if they can do it alpha rev and unrevoked will pull it off as well let's just give them some time.... I'm not worried at all at the moment

if the 3D bootloader was incrypted,it would still be in place. i dont believe it could be overwritten, even with a radio secure flag off. it is all but impossible to find the encryption key, without the encrypter giving it to you.
hmm. after some thot... does revolutionary give the 3d a new hboot like it does for other models? looking at their site again,it gives permanent nand unlock to the sensation,3d,and mytouch slide. i guess its possible to turn the secure flag off,and all partitions could be flashed without security checks except the hboot.

Wow that's a great thought. But the hboot would remain the same. Wiether u had 1.30 or 1.40 to begin with. They never released there exploit tho. I know it had to do with the kernel and htc patched it with the 2.08 update. Bastards LOL.

Do you know what their twitter name is. Probably unrevoked and alpharev?
So I was doing all the downgrade stuff..
Downgraded, got as far as the Revolutionary S-Off part, then when I was gonna update my radios I ****ed up and copied the wrong zip and flashed the first 2.11 RUU and it took me back to 1.5 locked.
I was so tired had been at it for hours so I'm like **** I'll just start again I guess this time will be easy, I bricked my phone through the method but then I read if you were already s-off that was perma brick?
I read that after I tried running the live cd tool and it wouldn't recognize the phone, please tell me my 2 week old baby isn't gone...
I do get the red dim light still idk if that matters but I can't turn it on or go into the bootloader
The last I heard if you do the downgrade with S-off your phone becomes a paper weight.
I got frustrated at what I did and was so tired I didn't re-read I just repeated the process then I read I had bricked it since it was already s-off..
is it gone?
As far as I know its gone! on the bright side you now have a nice expensive paper weight!
Sorry for your loss. Its a hard lesson learned.
Your best bet is to take it back to Sprint and tell them it stopped working, and see if they trade it in for you. I've read that a guy on this forum did that and they charged him like $35
for new device. Time to use your communication skills. I just sent mine to HTC for repair because I don't have a Sprint account, I'm using Google Voice for the moment. Just tell the Sprint rep how much you love them and their service and how you'd recommend them to family & friends and all that, they might just help you out. I'm missing my E3D already:'(

Not exactly, you can take any update you want to with s-off, and s-off will stick. I've run the 2.17 RUU with s-off and it put on hboot 1.5 locked, but since I still had s-off, I just flashed a custom recovery and then flashed hboot 1.4 without ever unlocking, the s-off overrides the lock.
I wouldn't do fastboot oem writesecureflag 3 unless I absolutely had to, like if I was selling my phone and they didn't want s-off. The op only has problems because he was s-off and then did unknowns brick method.

I am currently using 4ext (see my sig), but have enjoyed using TWRP 2.0 as well.
I have a very noob question that I was unable to find an answer to while searching the forums.
It seems that (understandably) the OneX development is much further along than the EVO LTE. My guess is that S-OFF will (hopefully) be achieved soon for that phone. My question is: how well will achieving S-OFF on the OneX translate to the EVO LTE considering the phones are, to my understanding, so much alike.
Will S-OFF on the OneX mean S-OFF for the EVO LTE shortly after?
Thank you ahead of time for answering my noob question.

The only reason for S-off is if you don't want to void warranty then? It also looks like there will be a big hassle to get updates pushed to the device. I hope there is a leak of the Eng bootloader.

Right now everything can be done with S-ON EXCEPT flashing radios. Unlike older phones this one also lets you flash kernels with S-ON. I currently have just rooted the phone over stock so when a method is available I will be able to revert back to stock untampered bootloader in 15 minutes with an RUU wipe then completely S-OFF the phone.

There is no s-off for hboot 1.15 yet.
The reason you should not take the OTA is because there is a new hboot, which means it will probably be a very long time before you can get s-off on 1.19.
If you can hold out awhile longer, s-off should be possible on 1.15, then you can do whatever you want, update radio, etc.

I know what you know, but if you look at the evo 3d and most phones, the pattern is that the first hboot is cracked quickly, the next one soon after, and the third takes a while(at least a year). There are still plenty of devs that haven't upgraded to the LTE yet.
Also, since htc has updated hboot again, has led many to believe on this forum that HTC found an exploit in 1.15 and patched it. With the phone this new, I bet s-off will be achieved with 1.15 relatively soon. But again, no sources, just my possibly flawed logic.
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
If anyone knew 100% that it would be possible to crack it would already be cracked.
We are making assumptions bbased on the fact that HTC released hboot 1.19. They don't usually do that unless it patches vulnerabilities used to gain S-OFF
Does anyone know WHY HTC doesn't want us to have s-off? Even if we void the warranty doing it through their method. I would be completely satisfied if HTC dev let me have s-off.

What if they let us get s-off by providing our serial numbers? It seems like it would benefit them to let us get s-off via them. Then they could blacklist our serial numbers, if we do it, there isn't much they can do because as you mentioned, it's hard to tell once it's bricked.

I wonder if one reason they close the exploits as fast as they can, and the reason their unlocker wipes the phone, is a liability issue their lawyers told them to do. So nobody can do this to somebody else's phone and access "sensitive data" or something.

It may not be to you but it is to a lot of the rest of us.
I like the freedom of not ever needing a computer which you never do with s-off.
Your not the first person to try to say that as it seems people like to say that when they dont understand what s-off means. If s-off was not really that big of deal then ask yourself why do the devs put in all the time and effort to crack it and get s-off if its as you claim not necessary ???? Why dont you ask the devs that question, maybe they can explain it to you so you can understand and comprehend it.
I have had s-off on every htc smartphone I have had since the first evo 4g and I have had a lot of them. s-on may be good enough for you and all you want, but not everyone is as content being s-on as you.
Uh this isn't the HTC One X days. You dont need a computer to flash roms or any other tweaks.

Yeah if you always want to flash roms with stock kernels, most of us dont like the stock kernels so yes you would need a computer. Access was gained before the phones were even released, but if your content with s-on that is your prerogative to settle for that, as is ours to want s-off and not settle.
For the life of me I have no clue why people content with s-on always seem to question people that want s-off. This post has nothing to do with deciding is s-off is not needed by anyone, its to talk about gaining s-off.
If your happy with s-on then please go post on forums where others are happy being s-on...

Just remember, if you arent to confident in messing with firmwares etc. dont mess with s-off.. It can really screw up your device. If you know what you are doing, and what it does, then go for it!
Confirmed, Firewater works for att.

Weaksauce didn't work for me, gave me a root failure error. I don't want to HTC Dev Unlock.
Those of you that have s-offed did you htc dev unlock first?

I used HTC Dev to unlock, used temporary boot image for recovery to nandroid + flash SuperUser, Then followed the protocol for firewater to gain S-OFF...running stock AT&T image now with root permissions. No 'Tampered' logo on my hboot

Yea...I don't want to use HTC Dev Unlock. Just curious if anyone else was able to get it working without htc dev unlock.
Thanks though.

Do you just not want your device to be logged or something?

I got burned on the M7 with that and the camera issue. Even though the camera issue was a known F up on HTC's part, they tried to charge me 200 bucks to fix it because I was unlocked. Only way they knew I was unlocked was because of HTC Dev, because the device was sent to them completely stock. I ruu'd back to stock before sending it to them.
This is my work phone, so I don't pay for it, therefore I'd like to be able to hide the fact that I've knowingly "voided" the warranty.
PS. I complained enough and got up high enough the food chain that they offered to fix my phone, however by then my digitizer died and the M8 came out.
