Does anyone know how audio is handled if the Note is connected to an external display via an MHL adapter? Will it route audio over HDMI, or do I have to option of having the audio play through the internal speaker or the 3.5mm audio jack? I want to connect the Note to my monitor, but I need to route audio separately. The easiest way would be out the headphone jack.
The MHL adapter I will be ordering is this one:

Not sure if you can reroute it. Sounds comes through HDMI for me.

Thanks... this could be a problem then. I'll have to see if there is an app that can force which output to use for all system audio (internal speaker, headset, Bluetooth, HDMI, etc.).

I know this is a little pricy but here's a possible solution:

Not sure if it'll work with an MHL adapter, but it could be worth checking out.
Both headphone jack and bluetooth audio will overide the MHL adapter audio automatically. No need to do anything but connect. No way that I know to use internal speaker though.

This does not seem to be the case, at least with CM9-RC2. While the kernel is aware that a headset has been plugged in, only phone audio is affected. If I call my voicemail, I get the usual choice between headset or internal speaker. Phone audio does not route over HDMI. However, game and video playback audio always seems to go over HDMI. Clearly, the kernel is able to route audio where it wants (i.e., it isn't a hardware override).
Code:
08-07 21:51:12.685 I/HeadsetService(23637): Headset=true; Bluetooth=false
08-07 21:51:12.685 I/HeadsetService(23637): Selected configuration: headset

08-07 21:51:12.905 D/AudioPolicyManager( 182): setStreamVolume() for output 1 stream 4, volume 0.226465, delay 0
Well it is the case using a stock ICS kernel.
I'll try temporarily flashing the stock ICS ROM then, and see if starts working.
Hey, I am trying to do the same thing (well I want music to play via bluetooth while MHL is outputting visual). Any progress or info?

I never got around to trying the Samsung ICS image. What I did in my case was connect my speakers to my monitor (which has HDMI in and 3.5mm audio jack out).
Hmm ok, thanks. I can just use audio from the hdmi but I'd prefer bluetooth if possible (just works nicer with my car's headunit)
As I understand it, this is simply a feature (or limitation) of the way the OS handles audio routing. There's no reason why it cannot simultaneously send audio to any or all outputs. It's all digital and done in software, not like there is a physical connection that has to be switched over from internal speaker to HDMI. So it is just a matter of getting support for that in your ROM. Or grab the source code and do it yourself.
Yeah that makes sense - only I do not have the skills to do it myself and not sure how I'd search for a ROM that does that (I doubt many will advertise something like that)
I found this app "SoundAbout" or "SoudAbout Pro" (if you want full functionality) witch let you change the output : MHL(Digital) or Speaker
it works perfectly for me, sound on the smartphone and video on the monitor (tested on galaxy s3)

Sorry i made a mistake (i have edited my previous post), the free version works
just run the app after connecting the mhl adapter and set the sound over speaker
but the free version does not contains the digital output in the options if you want to reset the sound over the HDMI
there is only the paid version which can make it
but you can always disconnect and reconnect the câble and the sound is reset automatically over the HDMI

Works fine on my Galaxy Note 3 - I now get HDMI audio out with A generic MHL HDMI adapter I just receivedthat I hooked up to my Note 3 (although I also did need to hook up power via micro USB wall adapter charger to the MHL device).
The only issue is that the white plastic 'collar' around the plug does not allow the MHL micro USB plug to fit in my Note 3 USB port WHEN I have a case (Trident Cyclops) around the phone.
I am going to order micro USB to micro USB extension to address this.
In the meantime I was able to test the MHL cable with my Note 3 by temporarily removing (snapping off) the white plastic collar...

I wouldn't. The headphone is a slightly amplified connection as the AV receiver using RCA jacks is expecting a non amplified signal.

i have a bt headset (HP)
after i paired it with my hermes, the only way to connect to them is going to comm manager-bluetooth settings-devices, click the bt-headset icon and choose "set as wireless stereo". is there a simpler way to do this? (much like the regular headset ised for phone calls, which connects automatically after the first pair)
thanks

after you set up a "pairing" ... when your pda's bluetooth is on, turn on your headset ... and then press the "answer" button, just once and it will sync in a few seconds.
This is how it works on my Motorola stereo headset.
works, thanks!
Gear4 BluePhones
I have the same problem as the topic starter, but I have a different headphone I have the Gear4 BluPhones.
I've tried the same, pressing the answer button after I turn the headphones on but that does not do the trick.
I run Black 4.0 WM6 on my Hermes..
Htc Bh S100
I have the same problem with my HTC BT Headset.
The Wireless Stereo connects automatically, but the Hands Free has to be refreshed each time a new connection is made .
My Nokia HS-12W connects flawlessly.
Therefore it just depends on the hardware design IMHO.

I had the same problem as simonk12. After reading the post from margatenj I thought if hitting answer would trigger a device to setup hands-free, perhaps using one of the music controls would trigger wireless stereo. On my Sony DR-BT30Q headset, if I turn on the headset, it connects straight away as hands-free, if I then hit play on the headset control, it connects as wireless stereo and the icon appears.
Running FuN_KeY_s_ROM_WWE_1.2.0 if that helps.
Jez.
SWEET!!!
I've confirmed this also works with my Sony MEX-BT2500 Bluetooth Car Stereo. I was seeing the same thing happen. My Handsfree was connecting as soon as I started the car, but the A2DP I had to go to the bluetooth settings and re-set the stereo as my Wireless Stereo.
tabashir was right in my case, I had to press the Play/Pause button to invoke the A2DP to reconnect.
Thanks a bunch for this answer, I've been driving myself crazy about this!
I have the Pioneer DEH-P9800BT Bluetooth Head Unit in my car, which supports stereo BT music streaming from any A2DP device.
I also have the HTC TyTN II Mobile which supports the same.
I have paired the two devices, and on the initial pairing successfully played music from the HTC through the Pioneer. When that worked, the BT Audio icon appears in the title bar of the mobile (headphones with a musical note in the middle).
However, after switching off the car and later returning, I have issues:
It is impossible to reconnect the BT stereo music playback, unless I delete the Pioneer device from the list of BT devices within the mobile phone, then pair them again. Nothing else seems to work. Simply, I just want all music to be routed through the Pioneer whenever it is in range of the mobile.
Are you able to solve either problem?
Same problem
My Dopod 838Pro and my Nokia a2dp headset work fine when they are initially paired, but the only way to make them work together after disconnecting either unit, is to delete the pairing and set up the pairing all over again as above.
A further issue for me is that my headphones work fine for outgoing calls, but incoming calls are routed to my handset speaker.
I have had the Nokia BT a2dp headset now for three days and am at a loss after much experimenting with all of the suggessions earlier in this thread.
I am a new memebr and would be so greateful for any advice. Apologies if this is a problem covered elsewhere.
I am about to make you very happy...
The default solution is to go into your Bluetooth settings page on the music device where you see the Pioneer BT Unit, and (on Windows Mobile 6) hold the stylus down ('right-click') then 'Set as Wireless Stereo', when you get in the car. It should now connect back to the stereo. That is a pain though an many screen-taps.
The other solution I found is to download freeware program A2DPToggle, which provides a one-click function for this on the WM6 home screen

You have made me very happy.
I do not mind all the screen taps, I am just so relieved that my headset finally works, both with music and sending calls.
One further question: My BT headset is now fine for music and ordinary calls but it still will not do activate when I am talking on my SIP application (Fring). Has anyone sorted this one out yet? Thanks again.
Best regards!!

Thanks for finding that! Just installed a brand new Kenwood KDC-BT838U and had this problem. A2DP Toggle was great but there was one feature I wanted that it didnt have. BT to laptop
Hello,
i have an issue with the BT connection to laptop using active sync.
when i establish a connection to the laptop first time, all is ok,
but... the HTC HD2 BT not connect automatically to the laptop when i go and back close....then i need to establish connection again. how can i tell the BT to connect automatically to the laptop every time?
thanks.
I have just found out this small app and it seems great for me. Maybe it is too late to ask this favour, could you please do another executable that toggles bluetooth on and a2dp on, and in second press toggles both off?.
Your current executable works great for me, but I have to turn BT on previosly, it would be great if the executable could do both things.
Best regards and thank you very much for this great idea.

Hello all. I have recently bought an HD2, and I have tried this BT trick I prepare for the diamond, but doesn´t work in HD2, Anyone Knows something similar for the HD2, to enable A2DP automatically without having to enter BT config screen?
I have tried enabling BT first in the HD2, then turning on the headset, and pressing play, but it connects with hansd free profile, snif....
Best regards and thank you in advance.
Also on my Desire with Philips SHB6102.
Headset is paired correctly.
This Headset used phone and media profile but i use only media.
When i switch off phone profile in the options of the headset it doesn't auto-connect with media profile only!
Any tip?
I have a monitor with HDMI input but it doesn't have a internal speaker.
I want to get sound via my analog external speaker.
What can i do for this?
Thanks.
If your monitor doesn't have an analog audio output, AFAIK it's not possible to get an audio signal from Atrix's audio connector.
A good option may be a bluetooth AD2P stereo audio connection (the audio would out through bluetooth not HDMI) but you would need something which supports it.
Sry for my crappy english.
There are some adapter boxes and switches which do this, I know some Xbox users who needed a similar thing but it wasn't that interesting to me at the time, so I can only say look it up in xbox forums, sorry.
headphone out would be cheap and easy, but and extra thing to plug in.
Just plugged my external speaker to 3.5" audio output and it works.
I did not think at all thats so easy
Is there any way to record stereo audio from an external source?
I want to use my phone like the line-in port of my laptop. At the moment i've managed to plug a 4 pin 3.5mm jack to 3xRCA, but this provide 2 mono-out and a mono-in (the phone recognize this as a stereo headset with built in microphone).
I wonder if is possible to obtain a stereo line in, maybe using an adaptor on the usb port.
Tnx!
any idea? or just know if it is possible or not.
Hi all,
Does anyone know how to route the audio to a Bluetooth device when the HDMI cable/connector is plugged in, as opposed to the audio going to whatever is plugged in at the end of the HDMI cable.

Just got my HDMI connector and I want to play the video through it, but the audio through my Bluetooth speakers. It does not seem to allow me to do this. Even though I connect the Bluetooth speakers, all audio comes through the tinny speakers on my monitor.
Has anyone managed to get Bluetooth audio working when connected with the HDMI adaptor?
In the app, SoundAbout, I can use HDMI video with audio output to the Phone speaker and headphones. The only problem is when connecting HDMI, the phone seems to disable the Bluetooth adapter.
I am guessing this is done so that the audio will go through HDMI. They don't ever expect you to use HDMI video with Bluetooth A2DP audio.
I am also trying to do the same. The only solution that I came up with was to route the TV's audio output to a Bluetooth transmitter which will send the audio to the Bluetooth speakers. I haven't yet tried that solution to comment on the audio quality or its sync with the movie.
you can check out the transmitter at amazon, search: "TaoTronics Wireless Portable Bluetooth Stereo Music Transmitter"
Looking around forums and internets, I've only seen people having problems with the USB-C -> MiniJack dongle or BT -> Car audio on Pro, but I can't find anything related to Lite not pushing audio through USB. What I'm trying to do here is to connect my phone to my car's head unit (this one: https://www.pioneer-car.eu/eur/products/mvh-190ub) via USB to play music, and it doesn't work. Had no issues like this on my previous phone (LG G5). Both run on Android 7.0, FYI.
After granting access to storage EVERY TIME (because an option to "remember this choice for this device" would be too convenient I guess...?) to the HU, they both seem to 'see' each other, the audio is playing but the HU is not receiving any audio. At least that's what I assume is happening, since the HU has a basic spectrum visualiser which doesn't move with my Lite connected to it. I can do the simple things like pause/play, next/previous track by using HU's controls, but the audio is not coming through. I tried Spotify, stock music player and Youtube. Nothing. I did not try things like call audio, since this is not my priority here. I also tried disabling USB audio routing in Dev options. Not entirely sure how was that supposed to help, but it didn't.
And yes I still can use the jack to play music (which I do, since I have no choice right now), but the audio is significantly quieter and just lower quality in general when compared to USB.
Anyone having a similar issue? Any ideas what could be the cause?
On the Mate 10 Pro, I use lots of things in the car but all on Bluetooth. I assume the Mate 10 Lite has the same battery manager as the Mate 10 Pro?
Where you can set individual apps/processes to auto (default) battery management vs. Manual (non default)?
By turning items I was using to Manual that were not working as expected I stopped experiencing problems.
Hope this is helpful.

It does and it asks if to grant accessory permissions to read data. Right after that, a popup shows saying that the phone's missing HU manufactuter's companion app (which I tried, it's terrible and doesn't help with my issue) is not installed. Did some more digging and it turns out my phone correctly switches to "audio source" USB mode. What's kinda funny is that after I connect the phone to the HU, a notification from OS shows up in the notification bar "Connected to a USB accessory. Touch for other USB options". When I try tapping on it, nothing happens. I assume some other menu should show up...?

Sounds like a compatibility issue. Quickest fix would be to use USB to aux adapter into stereo. Is that an option?
There might be a fix out there for this issue, but with Chinese phones your best bet is likely to find a workaround.
Also, have you tried other USB cables? Oem cable?

USB -> Aux adapter is technically an option, but that would be a big nuisance since I use a magnetic USB cable, and I'd had to remove the mag connector from the phone and plug in the adapter every time I get into the car. And I kinda bought the magnetic cable for the purpose of NOT plugging and unplugging cables to/from the phone all the time.
Tried 3 cables so far. OEM, 3rd party normal and 3rd party magnetic. Right now I'm onto updating my HU's firmware, since an update is available, worth a try.
