I have only tested this on the CM9 nightlies, so if you decide to try it on anything else, make a backup beforehand and report if it works for you.
Do you want Google Now on your HP Touchpad? Of course you do. I have been following this thread for a while waiting to get Google Now on my ICS phone.

XDA member cajunflavoredbob has been keeping a post updated with the latest flashable zips. So keep checking back for the latest one here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29756226&postcount=2856
I have used these files on my phone and got Google Now working for me. I decided to try the same thing on my TouchPad and it is still a bit buggy but worked pretty well. Voice search and talk back all worked (still buggy though). Just flash in CWR. I dont know if there is any easy way of removing it. So make a backup of your ROM just in case you want to revert back.
I started from a fresh flash of CM9's most recent nightly and then flashed Google Now v6.zip. I was able to get Now working a few times for searches but since have received the "double take" bug that does not automatically set a time reminder etc. After a couple attempts, pressing the MIC button shows an "initializing" screen and does not function.
I've read through his post several times over looking for a fix via permissions, disabling voice actions, etc, but have not been able to get it working 100%. What is your status with it on your TP?

I think we're on the same page. When it works, it works well. But it still has small bugs. Pressing on the mic in the search bar seems to work better. But at least every feature is there now. A step closer.
Yeah, I'll keep my eye on that thread. I switched around a couple of the updated velvet.apks since there were a few floating around, stated as working, to no avail but I will continue to test fixes. Any bets on whether his Google Now fix or a stable CM10 for the TP is released first?
OP updated with link to latest files.
I'm using reeko's zip, it fails on first try about half the time but when i retry it works pretty much always, if not i retry again lol
I did install the google voice search from app store after flashing the zip. I set the mic to go to this voice search, and pressing the word google brings up google now. So I have one that always works, and one that kind of almost always works.
I'm using the online only version of the zip, I don't know if the offline would need to initialize to google server or if it would work without failing
I havent even tried the offline version. But it sounds like they have similar issues. When you say you retry, do you hit the mic icon or the actual word "Retry"?
either one, or both
i just tested it, it works with doing either, it really is hit or miss it seems. around 15-20% success rate sometimes. I mean I hit retry/mic (depending on how bored i am) and I can do this around 10 times before getting it to work once. Then other times I can get it to work 3-4 times in a row before failing again
edit: from what I can tell (or what it looks like to me) hitting retry, retries in the app. hitting mic relaunches app? i say this since i see it kind of jump, like the entire app relaunched quickly. So my take is if this launch didnt work, i hit mic to relaunch it and hope this time is a bit better

I kinda have a feeling one of the older files worked better.
If you get bored, try this file out. This was the first one I came across but havent gotten around to flashing it back to see if it was better.
https://www.box.com/s/78f4efb985d94487d5d5
I am also hitting about 10%. Whether or not I hit mic or reset. I play with the settings, changing language and what not and it seems to reset it. But still hit and miss...
Same. Im running CM9 nightly 8/07, tested flashing every G Voice rom and the same error occurred with each one. I came across a post saying G Now only worked with a specific ICS rom, but I cannot find that particular post anymore nor a post on the main thread with a CM9 TP confirming G Now is working.
I'm also having problems getting G Now to work properly on the HP Touchpad with the latest nightly build.
Only thing that is buggy which today for me stopped working altogether is the voice search.
Anyone figure out how to fix this yet?
I'm not a developer but shouldn't it be possible to get G Now working for CM9? Since it is running ICS.
It would be awesome to get Voice working.

Found a version that works, running nfsfans release 14 and works great!
Thank you works great. it doesn't install a shortcut but thats not a big deal.
ill check it out. THANKS!
so I installed the cab, but I cant find it on my phone.... help?
NM. Figured it out!
thanks again for the cab, been waiting for it.
Help
Use File explorer to go to program files/Pandora then create a shortcut in the start menu. Sorry about the slow response.
Awesome!!! Hope it works...
Thanks man, downloading now. Will install and report my findings.
EDIT 1: I tried the app but it keeps cutting songs, once it has played half or more of the song it stops and re-connects to the server and just goes to the next song. Will hard reset and see if this helps the situation.
EDIT 2: Did a hard reset. App working great, still experiencing issue at the end of the songs cutting off before the song is completely done but it seems to have helped it a bit as the songs now play almost all the way through... That is completely tolerable. THANKS FOR THE CAB.
Advice
I use NSFFAN's rom and ha ve no problems, its updated like once a month so if you have problems they are usually fixed the next month. Try it see what u think, btw with this and some other patches google maps works too and its sweet.

Yea, I have it, I flash back and forth between VET's and NFSFAN's. Im going to flash over and try this again and see if this helps. Thanks for the input.
i have DL and installed on my Sprint TP and no luck
keep geting a visual 8 error and it wants to debug 2 files
it load up for like a split second the debug screen pops ip and i see pandora in the back ground but after i debug 2 times its closes
back again.
For some reason, I have flashed to NFSFAN's, VETVITO's, and ENERGY's newest releases, (yes, even the 23541 builds) and... I still have that last piece of the song that cuts out. It still goes to the next track so I dont mind much but it does cut off that last bit... Thanks for the tip though, if I happen to find something else for those of us that are still having an issue here and there, I will be sure to let yall know.
Info
This is probably useful to know, I am running a Verizon TP, RAPH500, with NSFFANS ROM on it. And I am interested to know, I noticed that it doesnt play commercials like some others. Don't know if you can do it with WM apps but it would be great if it could be dissasembled and patched to automaticly say yes when it asks you if your still there. But hey its decent for work ( no messing with your player every 10 secs to find a song,) and its free. Either way good luck resolving it, and keep us updated if you find a resolution to the problem.
So I have a Droid X2, now un-rooted and back on stock 2.3.4 and this is an issue I have had since I had the phone and have never found a fix. I have asked this multiple times on the Verizon forum for the DX and never get an answer...
SO every day I seem to have issues with my notifications going mute, sometimes, but not always, my ringer even goes mute. Usually once a day I have to reboot my phone because it is the only way I can fix it. I thought at first it had to do with my blutooth, but since SBFing and going back to stock I have not re-added my blutooth and it still happens. I took it into the store and he suggested that it is an app causing a conflict and I should uninstall 10 or so apps at a time to try and narrow it down... but I just went ahead and did a factory restore to see if it would help... but it happened again today...
Now, the notifications I use are ones I put on the phone. I have tried putting them on the SD and the internal and it seems to happen with both. I have also put them directly on and also tried ringdroid but it still does the same thing. The sound and notification levels will be all the way up, and when you go into the settings and try to pick a notification sound or ringtone, even the stock ones, you wont hear anything (and you would usually hear a preview of the sound)... The only way I can get the sounds to work is to reboot the phone and when it comes back, it will be fine... for a while. Sometimes have to reboot multiple times a day, but almost always at least once a day to get them back up...
Since you all seem smarter than the Verizon folks and have been a huge help to me thus far, I thought I would ask here and see if anyone else has ran into this and has a fix or if there are any known apps that would cause this. I have done searches but found nothing...

Okay... happening again. Nope. Music won't play. Says something about not being able to play that type of file. Just regular music that plays any other time. If I reboot the phone I'm sure it'll work. Any ideas?
I have the same issue of notification sounds going mute randomly. I'm using galaxy tab P1000, android 2.3.3
sometimes music player stops playing songs randomly too!

I upgraded to android 2.3.6 overcome 4.1.0 (its a custum rom for galaxy tab). Lets see if it resolves the issue. I'll report back if the problem happened again.

Awesome... thank you!
I've had a similar issue but not exactly the same. I normally keep my phone on silent mode but sometimes during the day it will automatically go off silent mode. Seems to happen most often when the battery level is below half. I just learned to live with it. My alarm would deactivate by itself in Froyo, so at least this isn't going to cause me to be late for work like that.
Problem is solved here after last week's upgrade. I'd suggest flashing a new build if possible. I guess for some unknow reason, parts of the OS gets corrupted or maybe its a bug in device drivers for our android phones thats been addressed in later builds.

I'm certainly no dev, just an avid user who likes learning and tweaking to get the most from his phone. I recall having similar problems with FROYO stock or rooted which as I remember went away when GINGERBREAD came out. I've been running DZK's CM7 beta as my daily driver since it was released with virtually no problems and unlike most other ROM's does not need multiple tweaks and scripts to scream with the exception of a wifi and/or dialer glitch that looks like Moonshadow has recently fixed. Sooooo unless HDMI is a deal breaker I'd suggest you flash CM7 and see if that takes care of your problems just remember to abide by the cautions regarding use of TBU to restore apps. And lastly as a rule of thumb I reboot my phone every morning once I get to 100% charge...force of habit I guess.
Good luck

Thanks everyone... I havent been on because it strangely hasn't been happening. Not sure what changed. Did not uninstall any apps, and have not had any updates (as far as I know... well besides app updates) and for some reason it hasnt been happening lately. Again, no idea what changed. Still unrooted on stock 2.3.4 gingerbread and phone seems fine now. Been happening for months and when I finally come here to get help, the problem seemed to have went away. I will keep you all updated if this changes. Hopefully if it is happening to anyone else, it has also been fixed... Thanks again for all your help. Really appreciate you guys helping out this noob
what i did
i have an mb870 too with no service running google voice and groove ip . my issue with notifications
was with my kids hitting all the button selections she could. in the process my message notifications
got defaulted to the wrong messaging app. i was still getting messages but no tones or vibrations.
so i just went to all the messaging apps i have and made sure to select the right one for the default
hope this helps
All of the sudden I can't use Google Talk. It says connection interrupted. I've tried older versions of the apk. I've tried clearing everything. Even reinstalling the complete ROM. This only happens on the stock or stock based roms. I've been using android for a long time but never seen this before. Anyone else have this problem or suggestions?

Yeah I got back into skype today and it was working. And mine xfrmer is stock. Talk on the otherg hand is still not connecting and it isn't showing up in the market.
On a different note, for some reason, until I misspelled "other" above, my spacebar would not allow the cursor to continue. Even if I held it down it would return back to the R on its own. WTF.
Hey guys, can one of you test SlimKat that I built for the dlx? I am 93% sure it'll boot up
Hopefully, if everything works out, I would be able to build it for you guys on a weekly basis

testing
Downloaded a few hours ago. Booted first try, had an issue with supersu but worked through that. It is pretty smooth so far. Messaging works. Have not tested camera or video or Bluetooth calling. Only issue so far is screen flashes s on/off when call connects but I think that is probably after market screen and not the build; although I do think it has something to do with the kernel. Let you know more as I go forward.
Great I'm using the cm m7 kernel for now. I'll experiment with other kernel repos.
Is there another one you recommend?
Hey,
I wanted to thank you guys for the ROM.
It's way cooler than all the blinkfeed one floating around
I know that you are looking for a bugs. I've been using it for three days now and I've noticed a couple of things :
First, that su wasn't working right off the bat. That's easy to fix though.
The other thing that bothered me was that the apps off the play store aren't downloading on the first attempt. They sort of fail with an error code a couple of times.
The recent apps panel that shows up on the right doesn't have the most recent app until you open it a second time or you wait a while.
And for some reason, the spacebar on the keyboard doesn't trigger 100% of the time. I don't know if that's just because of the way I type or the fact that I'm used to the HTC keyboard on this phone.
Other than that, I haven't noticed any glitches or reboots or any other random stuff.
Keep up the good work.

thanks so much man There's the thread in Q/A for support on this ROM now so we can talk there from now on
I did the whole manual update to Lollipop, unfortunately, my phone keeps searching for GPS when I use apps that need it.
The problem is I like to use a boating app, and I go far enough offshore that I do not get data. Btw, I get this issue with any app that needs GPS, including Pokemon Go!
After searching online, it appears to be a bug in Lollipop itself.
Either downgrade, of go to Marshmallow if I can find a decent daily driver.
Anyone else have similar issue?

More details of my experience in that thread. Wife just pre-ordered an iPhone 7, probably out of pity, for me. One day I showed her my Google Maps and set it to drive home. No sound, no directions, but it quickly discerned origin and route home, when we got home it said "you have arrived," but the map, even though the pointer updated position throughout the drive, still showed the route line from the origin!

I've never had this issue on any ROM
Found a workaround
I was experiencing exactly the same issue! Not only that but it seems like this issue has popped up on reddit and latest amazon reviews too. Seems to have started occurring after July of this year for many people. I haven't determined the root cause, but it seems like it's affecting too many people to be a hardware issue. Some things I tried that DIDN'T work:
* Flashed latest Cyanogen snapshot, although I like it a lot more than stock
* Tweaked the /system/etc/gps.conf file for my region
Finally I found that my phone time significantly drifted off atomic time, noticed it could be a whole second off. After reading online about GPS technology, it seems having an accurate client atomic time should improve GPS performance. I used an app called ClockSync (with root is easier) to make sure my time was accurate and turned off syncing time with cell tower. It worked!! Using a GPS testing app (GPS Status & Toolbox) I can lock on to my position reliably in < 10 seconds. This is still running on Cyanogen.
I'm in love with this phone, so happy I don't have to buy a new one.

I tried to install CM13. I failed miserably. Then I started by playing the Pokémon Go game and observing the erratic character movement. Then played with the GPS settings. Turning off High Accuracy and leaving on Device Only still is working, except inside structures that block GPS signal. Tried High Accuracy while visiting San Francisco this last weekend and started having issues there, so back to Device Only for me.

I found the latest Cyanogen snapshot I tried (cm-13.0-20160823-SNAPSHOT-ZNH5YAO0M5-mt2) too unstable. I started to experience random reboots every day, even while using Google maps turn-by-turn navigation. Restored back to official lollipop build (MT2-L03C00B322) from my backup (that was factory restored before backing up). Now it's suddenly working without any workarounds! I have no idea why it's working now. If you are considering dumping your phone for a new one, you could try a factory reset first to make sure it's not a hardware issue. :/

It was definitely not straightforward, I ran into several issues. First, TWRP recovery was complaining about invalid file system format so I switched to Cyanogen recovery to flash system. Second, I was getting constant Google services has crashed messages. Found out I needed to install it right after, before rebooting first. Third, I was stuck in boot-loop during Cyanogen startup. A hard reset finally fixed it.

That's a lot to deal with!!!
As of yesterday I am back to High Accuracy, and just as you note everything seems fine, particularly with regards to GPS.
I guess if I want to have Android 7, I'll save up for a phone that comes with it, unless I learn how to manually do it myself. (I was once a CECS major, about 16 years ago...)
Thank you again for sharing your experience! I hope we can all go back to enjoying our exceptionally large screens....
