SGS2 Internal Memory shrunk after rooting - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Good day, really sorry if this topic has been covered before. Unfortunately i have read a 100 threads and i am not able to get an answer for my problem. Please guys do help me out.
I have a SGS2 I9100 with 16gb of internal memory. I rooted the phone and put the F1 Nexus custom rom. Everything worked fine, until i decided to Format the Internal SD card/ Memory of the phone via settings. Immediately after that my internal memory has shrunk from 16gb to 4gb. I was just shocked. Also when connected through USB it shows 4gb of memory and also say that it is a Generic Volume, instead of FAT 32.
I have done every solution -
1. Flash stock rom through ODIN, worked but memory still 4gb
2. Wiped cache, data, factory reset, fix permission, delvik cache, everything basically wiped and installed either custom or Stock rom.
3. I have used custom recovery cmw, install through zip, everything installs but memory is stuck to 4gb.
Nothing has helped so far, please do help me out as i am not able to do anything now with 4gb of memory.
I am hoping someone will look into this, also is there a reason why this would happen. I dont think i will want to root anymore.

Have you flashed a stock sammy 4.0.4 rom with the pit file? If so that may be the culprit. Some people were experiencing that problem last month. All they did was flashed an older pit file which brought back their missing storage. Unfortunately i have no link for that post but you may search for it in the threads over at the general or Q and A forum. Or if someone passes by here maybe they can give you a link to that also.

You need to flash a .pit file with Odin. But I have no idea where to get one.
You need the one for i9100, not i9100G/M/T. If you're not sure which one you have, go to settings-about phone.

Thanks guys for the quick replies. I have not tried flashing an older .pit file...will get one and see if it works.
If anyone has any other solutions..please do let me know

dont format through windows or phone.....use a special software to format mmc.....it will be recovered.....search on google[sd card formatter]......i also had this issue with pendrive and this helped me

I have flashed with 404 with pit file, same trouble, re flashed with original ROM with a pit file found with a generic search in Google (after I've tried everything on this earth), then internal Sd came back to the original size after formatting it.

I have a formatting tool, the problem is that it is not recognized as a drive: by windows 7. So basically i cant see the drive to format it.

Neither Linux can do that, pit file will do the trick (I think) than format with the command you can give with your phone, not with the pc, lol.

In Google I found that pit files are all the same for sgs2, than I have downloaded it, but I don't remember where, sorry. Try with xda forum...

Pit files are far from same for all Gs2's. Flash a wrong file and you have a very expensive paper weight. Not exactly to be messed with just like that...

I just went from 4GB to my 11.5 GB on my i9100.
The steps follow are:
Make a backup of my offical i9100 ICS ( I'm being careful !!)
Mount the storage in the clock wise mod
Delete the 4GB Partition (via disk utility on Mac)
Create another partition (via disk utility on Mac)
Restart the phone
Format the USB storage
& here you go with 11.5 Internal Storage Back !!!

Hello,
I just bought a used samsung galaxy s II on ebay. It is not rooted as the owner said. I have checked using RootChecker application and seems it is not.
version: 89100XXLQ5
kernel: 3.0.15-I9100XXXLQ5-CL753921 [email protected] #3
compilation: IMM76D.XXLQ5
And it seems it has the same problem. Only 4GB instead of 16GB. What should I do? I do not want to root it, if it wasn't before, probably it can be solved differently.
I do not own a mac to do what was suggested. SD Formatter do not see the card in win7.
Please help, if you have a clue how.
Cheers!

Photos deleted after flashing stock ROM via Odin

Hi,
I'm new and though I've watched the noob video I hope I'm in the right place, if not please dont get angry ><.
2 days ago I've flashed into stock rom for my SG3 (GT-i9300) back from my RGUI v5 Build number: MIUI-2.8.3 IMM76D / Kernal version: 3.0.38-Siyah-s3-v1.3.9c
Ask me why? because I've had some issues trying to install official MIUI v4 from the international website and always I get error: "Status 7" with a dead android inside. (Again, Why ? because I as hoping it would make my SG3 even smoother... more responsive)
So I though perhaps flashing it from a stock rom might work, so I used Odin and everything went fine, again ofcourse I got the error and went back to CWM to restore the backup i've made before flashing anything, I dont really mind about the error right now, I've seen similar posts about it and I shall continue investigating it, What's more important is on the next phrase.
Today I found out that all my photos were deleted, after restoring my RGUI v5 rom 2 days ago ofcourse....
I'm not sure how could the situation get any better though I remember previously flashing rom's that the SD card never being touched and I guess I was wrong.
What I wanted to ask is, I just got more CWM backup files on my external SD, does anyone knows if CWM backup restores user data aswell or should I just give up ?
Helpfull tips of how to restore it could be usefull (Oh lord, please spare me I beg you, I'll pray more).
Thanks in advance.
I've flashed hundreds of times on S1, S2 and now S3 and never lost any data or photos that are on either the internal or external sd cards.
Not sure but could it be that you somehow hit format sd card in cwm by accident?

Have you searched your internal and external storage? Maybe they were only stored on a different location so that the stock Gallery cannot find them?
Storages are either completely wiped or not wiped - but you don't only loose one particular folder

I tried to install 3rd party Gallery program which scans my SD's for photos and it could nothing.... Its probably not there.
I think all is lost unless one of my backups contains them.

In a more optimistic view there are worse things, and although its quite hard to swollow all I've got left to do is say thanks to every one for trying...
Thanks.
Sorry, but this is a "Well Duh..." moment.... Flashing any stock rom through ODIN will always wipe the data partition on the internal sd card. You need to backup the internal stuff onto your PC. Only a stock firmware that has been modded will allow a non-wipe flash and you usually need to be rooted as it is no longer a stock rom.
You should be able to restore a nandroid backup of a stock rom too without wiping the internal sd card as this is only putting the system data back onto your phone...

Internal 2 External memory

Greetings,
I have been busy with this for 4-5 days now and nothing works.
i just resetted everything and started from scratch.
can anyone explain me how i change internal to external memory i gotten a :
64 GB Mobile Ultra microSDXC card Class 10 (30MB/s) SanDisk
And my firmware is:
4.2.2
My Phone is:
Samsung galaxy s4 GT-I9505
Hope someone can help this noob out.
Need my phone to be ready befor end of the weekend (holliday)
So all the help is welcome.
Installed:
Clockwork installed now
Superuser rights.
only need help how to install the external to internal memory now.
Im not quite sure what youre getting at but ill give it a shot. Theres no way to swap the internal to external memory. Apps and their data get stored on the internal storage. By default theres only a couple things you can have saved to the external memory card. There is an app called folder mount that allows you to save apps/data on the memory card though.

you know a good 1 thats works for GT-I9505?
Thats a mod, i generally refer to conventional means of doing stuff. Anyway ive never used that and it doesnt store everything on the sd. Apps still get saved to internal storage while data/resources get saved to external. Like I said I would check out folder mount. See if that suits your needs.

Installed recovery-clockwork-6.0.3.2-i9500.tar.md5
Altho it was for i9500 it worked.
Then i format to factory settings, then i checked and i could still boot to clockwork used the phone a bit installed superused rights.
then i tryed to put on factory settings again and did not boot anymore to recovery and also not to clockwork.

Once you install a custom recovery yoj cant boot to stock recovery because its overwritten by the custom version. Thats a mega thread for everything i9500 and i9505. I would try reflashing the recovery to see if it fixes it. If not you might have to odin back to stock. This is also the verizon specific forum for the s4 so posting in your devices specific forum would probably get you more help.

Thanks for all the help ill reinstall the offical firmware hope that helps the solution.
ill try the folder mount hope it works becoas my phone is full fast when i download a couple of games.
Not a problem. Glad i could point you in the right direction. If you made any backups you might want to move those to external storage. They are fairly large. I have a couple 1 gig+ games and several smaller ones and still have 5 or 6 gigs left.

Well the main problem was when i install a couple of games the main memory is full way to fast
thats why i wanted and hoped the swap would help the problem.
tho i just made more problems and consumed to mutch time :silly:
i think i just have to stick around on the problem and hope samsung will fix of have a solution to this in time.
i did not make any backups. so i just have to start frome scratch tomorrow.
thanks for all the help again and gl helping others.
You could also try the app Folder Mount in the Play Store here https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.devasque.fmount&hl=en this will allow you to put the "data" folders associated with larger apps on the SD card. If you are looking to swap internal to external memory the other suggested thread will help you do that. There are pro's and cons to it and when you factory reset or change ROM's you need to do it all over again.

maybe its full of nandroid backups, have you checked for the nandroid backup. you you have clockworkmod recovery installed try to see if any nandroid backups are stored in /data/media/clockworkmod/backup/, it there are any you may backup them to your pc and delete them and get the free space. this happens when backup in internal storage is performed.. one backup may be from 1-3 GBs depending upon different partitions.

this is because u didn't read the Faq's and Guides first. Why all beginners nowdays don't read the faqs and guides nowdays... and let me tell you what is giving this problem, its because of flashing lots of firmware and roms even without knowing what wrong that would do, this is not a manufacture defect.. and as you said there is no repair center, this would be nearly impossible to find out the solution to your problem.. have you visited other repair shops or centers, who sell samsung's phone and repair too, maybe they can solve this problem..

I've flashed stock firmwares just to try to fix my 547Mb storage pb, not for fun...
As a good GS3 beginner, i've read the FAQ, that's why i've backed up my efs partition and restore it when i face the IMEI + SN issue.
No there is not such repair shops or centers in my country.
I have no choice, i think i would rather buy a 16 or 32gb sdcard and find a way to put my apps on external sdcard
Thank you for your replies :good:

Fixed! Neither of it worked.
After spending whole of my sunday on this, all i had to do was flash a twrp kernel(I used apolo) and and format the emmc.

Internal storage disappeared

Updated an s2 from 2.3.5 to 4.1.2 rom and lost the internal memory.
When I connect it to the pc I can see it.
When I format the internal memory from the device it shows up for a second and disappears.
Tried to flash new rom via odin same result.
Repartitioned the device. Still the same.
How to solve this problem?
