How do i use ext2 partition on native ap2sd? i used to have link2sd but i heard native is better so i made an ext2 partition anyone know how to set it? minicm7 2.2.1
EXT2 is not supported with this ROM, must create EXT3 or EXT4.
I was tested EXT2 + link2SD but that didnt work. Tested FAT32 + link2sd = same fail.
If you create EXT3/EXT4 it could be auto-mounted, but some bugs could appear...
I recomended to not use EXT, just that SWAP you created. If you use native "move to card", they will be stored on mmc too, but will be visible in some "xxx-secure" folder (not stored in ext part.) - I spent almost whole day to recover all files after testing SWAP and EXT3 (both auto-mounted via minicm) - dont do the same mistake

you should change ext2 to ext3 or ext4, but i think he is saying: get rid of the ext-partition and just keep fat for app2sd/link2sd, and keep swap.
You must format the ext2 to ext3 or EXT4. There is a command for this built into minicm and I think it's something like a2sd format in terminal. Or you can use something like gparted from linux

made ext3 how do i activate it?
EXT3 is automatically mounted by ROM, so you dont have to enable it.
You can just choose if you want to use NONE / A2SD / DC2SD mode in cyanogenmod settings.

Or if you want both, apps and dalvik-cache on SD - download here - app2sd.dc2sd.ext4
First of all make backup in xRecovery
Install app2sd through xRecovery - install custom zip
ext2 or ext3 or ext4 partition on SDcard needed
After app2sd installed, don´t turn the phone on without SD card with installed apps inserted, until it is really necessary
First boot after installation takes longer, depending on the amount of installed apps
If you make backup with xRecovery after installation -
- your personal data and setting of your apps will be backed up
- installed apps will no longer be backed up, but still remaining in the ext partition on SD card
If some app won´t work correctly, please reinstall the app from Market or from the file browser (rootexplorer) - you can find your apps in /system/sd/app directory
Compatible with JIT?
Yes, it is.

Could u upload the file on megaupload.com
Thanks,...
Ok... now it´s on megaupload.
Installed it, how can i check it? This is my first app2sd try

In rootexplorer, /data/app - shows used and remaining space, added together it should be size of your ext partition.
Ok at first i didnt have a ext2 partition.
Now i have formated my sd card and app2sd seems to waork, my problem is after installing the uptade.zip my phone reboots and at first it shows all the apps in menu then they dissapear, i think theyre transfered to sd card. and then i can do nothing just have the standart apps, appbrain doeasnt works, cant start root explorer etc... but all m apps appera in the menu for deinstallation. Hope you can help me
EDIT//
after another restart everything seems to work fine
I am glad to hear that
Works well with my previous ext2 partition.
I already had app2sd working, and it still works this way.
I'm now trying a new sdcard. I formatted an ext4 partition in ubuntu, but the phone enters into an eternal loop. Don't know why, but it seams that it is not recognizing the partition.
Any Ideas?
Regards
Use ext3,for mini is better - stable
I made ext4 partition making first ext3 and then ext4 manually in xrecovery through adb with this tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=534714 and its stable.
But maybe ext3 is faster with our kernel. Dont know, didnt compared.

Thanks brader.....
This sounds awesome but does this mean that I can have apps on ext2 + ext 3 which means double the amount of apps?
NO.On ext3 is better performance.
No, but you can double the amount of partition size
Nice so say I've doubled it, will it increase the amount of apps I can put on my mini? just want to know a bit more about this

THANK YOU VERY MUCH !!!
now i have a question, i got a 1gb ext2 partition, would it be better when i format it in ext3 or ext4 ? i dont know wich class the microsd card is, its a 8gb....
I have ext4 but few people said ext3 has better performance.
I had no time yet, to try ext3.
I think 1 GB is too much, because there are still some data, that are stored in internal memory and when you run out of internal memory, remaining place in ext partition is unused.
500 MB is enough, this is not high-end phone and too many apps means more slowness and less stability, i think.

hey is there anyway to make it bigger i have moved all my apps to the sd card
Use S2E if you are using CM7. You must create an ext3 partition for S2E to work. Download it from the market.

Either use gparted (desktop linux app), or clockworkmod. Set swap to 0 if you use clockwork. The ext partition must be the first partition, if you use gparted.
Make sure youre using CM7, not all roms support an sd-ext partition.

Every guide/source I've ever seen says you must put the fat32 partition first, followed by ext partition, and optionally followed by swap partition. I've never bothered trying it any other way but you're definitely wrong about having to put the ext partition first. It might work in either order.
Also just about any of the custom ROMs on this site will support an ext partition, but S2E specifically only works on CM7.
yer thanks all ive done it know i used a partition wizard that deals with linux stuff and work i know have the ext3 at 500mb.
and im using CM7.1 RC
thanks all
I am using the 6.5.7 CM with 2.2.1 amon-ra and planning to partition my SD card. I found a set of instructions that worked with others, but for some reason I received a different result. According to the tutorial, I am supposed to enter this value on the recovery menu:
Swap size:0
EXT size:512
Convert EXT2 to EXT3.
Convert EXT3 to EXT4
But when I tried it, it doesn't ask for the value of EXT. It is asking instead for the value of EXT2. I am planning to use A2SD and dark tremor for this.
Just set that on 512. The way partitioning is done in AmonRa is it makes the partition in ext2 only. If you want to use ext3, afterwards pick the other menu "convert ext2 to ext3". If you want to use ext4, convert ext2->ext3 and then ext3->ext4.
So ill enter these:
Swap 0
Ext2 512
Convert 2 to 3
Then proceed with flashing?thanks
Can anyone help me about find the solution for enabling ext4 and swap partition in ICS roms.
on GB i flash script by darktermor and then my swap partition and ext4 partition works perfectly and after installing apps, they move automatically to ext partition.
But in ICS this script doesnt work and when I install link2sd it ask about my partition but it moves my apps to android.secure not ext partition and my swap partition doesnt work.
I tried mesa kernel, kernel panic, but in terminal my swap partition is 0 .
Can you help me please
Thing is, darktremore a2sd doesnt work well with ics/jb. Try mount2sd script, can mount swap partition too.

thank you,I installed from this topic but still it doesnt work
Code:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342387
it will work. i'm using it.
My phone is xperia mini pro
with kernel panic.
Can I use your kernel will it enable this ?
Or it is because of my rom that it cant support this ?
mount2sd need a type of sysinit that invoke init.d script after boot, and my kernel does support it.
just make sure u create partition correctly eg:
1st partition as fat32, primary. this is for usual sdcard files.
2nd partition as ext2/3/4, primary, this is for mount2sd use for moving dalvik, apps, apps data etc.
3rd partition swap.
I use swap and ext partition on GB as well and had no problem.
but now even use mesa but it cant mount my sd card i install both aroma installer and legacy install of mount2sd script but it doesnt work.

I am having little problem here. I partitioned my sdcard with cwm with 1gb ext4 partition and 256mb of swap partition. it said done succesfully.but when i crosschecked in minitool partition wizard it showd partition as ext3. now when link2sd asks me which partition it is then what should i do. i want to use as ext4 bcz i read that it is the best among ext2 3 4 (tell me if its not). also pls tell is swap space useful for xperia neo?are there any imrovements of performance with this swap partition? kind of confused here..

Just use mini tool partition wizard to create the partition.
Not sure which is the "best" to use.
I use ext 2 because thats all the x10 kernels was able to handle and i have never had any problems.
I have never used swap, but from what i have read its not a good idea...
default ext4 have journaling feature and it will shorten the life of the sdcard will die more quickly but datas become more safety
ext4 without journaling feature better than ext2
as you can check yourself
