hey is there anyway to make it bigger i have moved all my apps to the sd card
Use S2E if you are using CM7. You must create an ext3 partition for S2E to work. Download it from the market.

Either use gparted (desktop linux app), or clockworkmod. Set swap to 0 if you use clockwork. The ext partition must be the first partition, if you use gparted.
Make sure youre using CM7, not all roms support an sd-ext partition.

Every guide/source I've ever seen says you must put the fat32 partition first, followed by ext partition, and optionally followed by swap partition. I've never bothered trying it any other way but you're definitely wrong about having to put the ext partition first. It might work in either order.
Also just about any of the custom ROMs on this site will support an ext partition, but S2E specifically only works on CM7.
yer thanks all ive done it know i used a partition wizard that deals with linux stuff and work i know have the ext3 at 500mb.
and im using CM7.1 RC
thanks all

First, am I doing something wrong or does it just not work? I can't seem to get NAND +ext backup to work.
On the matter, of ext partitions there seem to be some ROMS that use ext2 and some that use ext3. Then there is also ext4. This can be annoying if you want to try another ROM that requires the ext type you don't currently have. I'd really rather not have to wipe the SD card and have to repartition it. Since I know I can use Acronis to format both ext2 and ext3, would it work OK to have FAT32, ext2, ext3, and swap all on the same SD card?
Also, I saw a post that seemed to say Froyo ROMs require just having one big FAT32 partition. That seems rather off to me since I thought Froyo ROMs could use A2SD.

I'll refer you to the following link for making NAND + ext backups:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6866495&postcount=1038
While I think it may be theoretically possible to have ext2, ext3, and swap, all on the same SD card, I seriously doubt any Android version would be able to recognize that form of partitioning (Froyo definitely wouldn't).
As for Froyo, the implementation of A2SD in Froyo simply stores apps in a folder on the SD card, thus eliminating the need for a partition. The A2SD implementation "hacked" into 2.1 ROMs on this website originated from Cyanogen, I believe. Therefore, there isn't specific Android OS support for the feature like there is from Google in 2.2.
That weird cause I have apps2sd working with almost 300mb of apps on my 512 ext partition, and when I do a regular NAND backup using clockworkmod recovery, and when I restore, it restores all of the apps on the ext. Don't know why this is tho or why your having trouble, just thought I'd let you know.

Hi,
I partitioned my sd card using rom manager with 512mb ext and 0mb swap patition. How can verify that the apps are installing on ext partition. If any one have pls give me the detailed explanation for sd card patitioning using rom manager. Thank You.

how you move your apps to ext partition?
your ext partition should be in /sd-ext (but mine is /data/sdext2)
for my case, i failed to partition through ROM manager.
but I managed to partition manually using mkpartfs and also other alternative way is through ClockworkMod Recovery
with move to SD card option, I moved apps to SD card. I heard that it is enough to move to ext partition. is there any way to move apps to ext partition?
What are you using to move apps to the partition? Its not enough to just create a partition... The FroYo way of moving stuff doesnt need a partition at all (Apps -> Move to SD).
You need another app like link2sd or darktremor's apps2sd that actually makes use of partitions.
I done it in caynogenmod but it didnt works in official froyo ver. Here i used DTapp2sd tool. And how can i know what partition i have (ext/ext2/ext3/ext4) ?
And Thanks for ur answer.

how did you partition your sdcard? did you use your custom recovery? if so:
if you have amonra, it should have first partitioned it to ext2. then it gives you the option to convert ext2 to ext3, and then ext3 to ext4. if you have used one of these options then it should be self explanatory.
if you have clockworkmod, you should have ext4 (as clockworkmod only supports ext4)

if you are moving apps to SD using setting->application then you are moving to fat32 partition which is in .android_secure folder of your SD card.
to move apps to ext partition you have to use apps likes link2sd, DT's apps2sd, s2e

How do i use ext2 partition on native ap2sd? i used to have link2sd but i heard native is better so i made an ext2 partition anyone know how to set it? minicm7 2.2.1
EXT2 is not supported with this ROM, must create EXT3 or EXT4.
I was tested EXT2 + link2SD but that didnt work. Tested FAT32 + link2sd = same fail.
If you create EXT3/EXT4 it could be auto-mounted, but some bugs could appear...
I recomended to not use EXT, just that SWAP you created. If you use native "move to card", they will be stored on mmc too, but will be visible in some "xxx-secure" folder (not stored in ext part.) - I spent almost whole day to recover all files after testing SWAP and EXT3 (both auto-mounted via minicm) - dont do the same mistake

you should change ext2 to ext3 or ext4, but i think he is saying: get rid of the ext-partition and just keep fat for app2sd/link2sd, and keep swap.
You must format the ext2 to ext3 or EXT4. There is a command for this built into minicm and I think it's something like a2sd format in terminal. Or you can use something like gparted from linux

made ext3 how do i activate it?
EXT3 is automatically mounted by ROM, so you dont have to enable it.
You can just choose if you want to use NONE / A2SD / DC2SD mode in cyanogenmod settings.
hey guys, i want to use a2sd to move apps to sdcard so i have installed linktosd cuz am using stock rom 2.3.3 and when i installed the app the super user gave force close. after that i updated the super user then when opened the linktosd app then it showed the type of partition like ext2,ext3,ext4 etc. i tried every option it says ext partition no directory found. i have tried mounting the sdext in recovery still not working!! plz help!!! am tired of this thing! i want a decent apps2sd on stock rom 2.3.3!!! :|

I believe CWM defaults to ext4. If you didn't make any other partitions, then your SD card partition structure should be as follows now:
/mnt/sdcard, FAT, primary
/sdext, ext4, primary
Try using link2sd's menu to recreate mount scripts, & choose ext4. Also, make sure you're still rooted properly, and still have expected su access.

I recollect facing the same problem.I guess the problem isn't with link2sd its got to to do with the fact that the stock kernel doesn't support ext partition try flashing a custom kernel that supports ext partition.

Ah, good catch! I didn't notice that.
If you don't want to flash a new ROM, you can format the 2nd partition as FAT, and link2sd has the option to mount that the same way as others.

I don't understand. Do you want to keep stock, or flash a custom ROM? If all you want is to use link2sd, you shouldn't need to flash anything.

Backup your sd card on PC.
Do factory reset
Re partition ur sd card in cwm
Start phone & install link2sd before any other application
Use ext4
If ur kernel doesnt support ext 4
Partition ur card on PC using some partitioning software. use ext2 in this case. And try link2 sd now
Pls let me know if this helps

I want the solution for flashing new nightlie each time...
Reinstall link2sd -> menu -> More -> Recreate mount scripts
Reboot.
My phone: Optimus V
ROM: Quattrimus AOKP ICS

I'm new the the forum so I'm sorry if this is in the wrong forum. I scoured the forums and Google for an answer to this to no avail. I used MiniTool Partition and I followed your guide on how to partition your SD card. I reflashed AOKP hoping it would do something but it didn't. When I go into Titanium Backup it has my partition listed. On the place where I got AOKP from, it says you cannot use any 2SD app (App2sd, link2sd etc) because Quattrimus will supposedly automatically realise your partition. How can I use my partition when the only way people say I can is via using a 2sd app? Thanks for your time and help.

So it my ext2 memory should be added to my total internal memory?
For the most part I would think so...an ext is an imaginary portion of a sdcard....ext2,3 and 4 could better be explained by Wikipedia or any Google search....if you want to partition a sdcard, use a custom recovery ie..clockworkmod recovery 5.0.2.7 or amonra 3.0.6, cwm partitions to ext4 by default while amonra partitions to ext2 by default but has options to upgrade to ext3 than ext4 in the recovery context menu....you can use a windows program to partition as well but your sdcard probably came preconfigured to NTFS and you need partition to FAT32

Install ClockworkMod and partition SD Card you will find the tutorials here also.
ext2/ext3/ext4 is a File System type and its a logical partition created in your SD card which is used and extension of your internal memory. Initially this File System is used in Linux since android is developed based on Linux so it uses the same file system.
For more information about partitions you can google.
